Lol! I can imagine the veterans have rituals like that. And also place bets on how long it’ll take rookies to quit etc. 😂
Having to smell like monster bile for a week for the entertainment of your peers sounds like a pretty legitimate reason to put in that resignation notice in all honesty. 😂

Poor Callan! 😂 I can't tell if he's a veteran of the guild or an indebted hostage.

If that’s the resigning condition Romeo has a whole library to pay for…

Lol!

The explaination I have for Callan becoming a Hunter is that he stumbled into the Inn drunk one night, p*ssed off a few hunters (with his sarky attitude) and proceeded to cause an all out brawl.

Instead of tossing Callan out, Beryl insisted that he join the Hunters Guild to pay for all the damage, and to put his anger to good use.

He’s basically been Shanghaied into an anger management program.

I hit it right on the money! He's in debt!~ Honestly Callan seems like a really compelling character and I'm super interested to get to know about him.

*readies typing fingers*
Time to work on Vesh and Reks. Might do some character sheets for the three.

I agree, but then I was like did the Cresent branch off? And I figured I'd ask a stupid question rather than fully assume. Sorry.

I guess I wanted to see her reaction to Morgana

Well there's always the post mission reaction. Might be even more priceless of a reaction if everything went fubar

Update: Posting the sheet before the backstory and intro because I’m running low on time. New character coming in a few minutes!!!!!

Polar's idea of the wall having GOT'esque magical qualities meshes really well with the idea of a huge monster migration. Magic being one of the most powerful weapons humans have to our advantage, it stands to reason that the wall would see some neglect if people from centuries ago thought the problem was solved by just "sticking a rune on the fence" and forgetting about it. And then centuries later, everyone kind of realizes "Oh... maybe we should've added some upkeep."
I think that fits well with the theme. I've been trying to read more of the history and lore from threads as well, but I like the idea of the wall creating a stratification of the monsters in the north. Like, the larger they are, the more potent the magical runes are, the further north they have to stay.

The history of it could have been a gathering to try and decide what to do about a behemoth that was sighted heading towards the continent.

It is amazing what kind of information can be lost over the generations. The king's great great granddad probably stressed to his kid how important the wall was, but 4 generations later and no one has seen a monster big enough to threaten humanity... Why are we paying for this damn wall? We could spend it on bigger parties.

I like the idea of the wall itself creating a stratification of the monsters in the north. Like, the larger and more dangerous they are, the more potent the magical symbols on the wall are to them and the further north they are quarantined to. Like a compelling bad smell that gets worse the bigger your nose is or the hotter your fire breath can be. As the wall falls into disrepair, the monsters range south grows. Smaller monsters stop noticing it entirely.
I like the idea that the wall may be under threat by something other than the ravages of time and a negligent King.

Other than being a source of monsters for our Hunters, I haven’t really dictated what could be found in the Wild Lands.

Perhaps the history books are wrong, or Herne went bad and plans to reclaim the North? Maybe there were people trapped on the other side who have changed over time to become a threat? Or (in true Monster Hunter fashion) a huge migration of monsters could be on the way (including a Big‘un), and the Hunter’s have to save the South from impending doom. Perhaps old King Baylin knew what was coming, but didn’t know when? The Hunters could even get political if they seek an audience with the King and ask him to fix his wall.

The possibilities are endless really. 😅
Ooo! I like the trapped component. That seems like a solid side plot. What happened to the Grixin folk who didnt believe in the threat foretold when ordered to leave the north towards the safety of the wall 1000 years ago? Well... Something bad, of course!

Not sure if the Big‘un is a specific thing - I only really played one monster hunter game - but the idea of some kind of a source of mutation/monsters/evil being some kind of giant monster thing that was banished to the deep north by the wall could be a solid foundation. The Bigun could be some kind of source of corruption, perhaps. Converting this to the previous stratification
I personally like the idea of there being an overarching plot or two. As to what exactly those will be, especially if it ends up coopting hunts made by other players, would largely be up to those players whose hunts are involved + the GM. From what I've seen so far, the number of players, along with the likelihood that there will be many quests with a litany of plots, plans and endings, doesn't lend itself terribly well to the idea of any one comprehensive plot in such a story where the world building and storytelling is really a collective effort (in other words, the more toes involved, the easier it is to step on someone else's even without meaning to... and there's kind of a lot of toes in this case), but with a little teamwork, I wouldn't be surprised at what could be achieved especially if people give a nod, ahead of time, where they want those quests to take us. That's just my input, though; Again, it'll largely be up to those particular players heading the quests to decide whether or not they want their quests to be involved, (in the case of Oghma's Ruins, it'd be @FloofWhispers) and the penultimate goals of the GM ( Genii Genii ).
I see it as kind of a behind-the-scenes thing. People don't necessarily have to be involved in stopping the impending Big'un corruption, for example (just ideas). Might not be involved at all, really. But it could lead to added flair in other hunts. Like "Hmm, the monsters seem to be getting more restless lately." "Why is a herd of big guys this far south? well, guess we better get rid of em." etc or it could just be like the multiverse and it really only affects people when they go on "hunts" with Zath.

_______

Question on how time works for RP purposes -- Is there a continuous nature to things? Like, can a character be on two separate quests at the same time like they are technically taking place at different times or are they bound to a single thread for the duration? If the latter, I am thinking it may be a good idea to pretend threads with crazy Zath are in the multidimension. I am on a really odd schedule - probably different from most, so threads I'm in might end up being a once-a-day kind of pace -- bulkier posts from me, usually.

This way, the lore could be picked and chosen by Genli for the main dimension too!

I do think it will work better to host a hunt rather than stepping into other ones to attempt this kind of thing. Maybe I can message you, Genii Genii , on a Hunt with the idea for the overarching plot I'd be pursuing with the participants and we can give it a whirl from there?

I think hosting a hunt for Zath would be best, and recruit a quest party here or IC in the Guildhall. Feel free to message me anytime. 👍

Linear timeframe and one quest at a time, so far.

We’ve got a range of players with different posting habits and post lengths.

The Ruins of Bal’dak has been a slower adventure. Players post just a couple of times per week, but the posts are much bulkier.

Holes (and I think the new Find Fifi) threads are fast paced, with shorter posts - but those two quests are mini adventures/close to Colby, so I’m expecting those groups to be home in time for dinner (all going well). 😅🤞

Saying that - the Holes group have just discovered that (large) monsters are tunnelling out of the Wild Lands (under Baylin’s Wall), so sneaking in some Easter eggs here and there. 😏

Yeah I was had to back away because rp was going to fast for my comparatively slow posting cycle
I totally understand. Once we split into parts, it slowed a bit. Or perhaps it was just easier to deal with only a few at a time. DualDragons DualDragons has been a slower poster (I've been worried about him feeling left out.) But he was still able to transform and tip the tide with our beastie.

You could even ask if the rest of your group is comfortable with a post order on a hunt? That way you can have a day or two to reply on your turn.

I tend to reflect the posts of the majority around me, so it's possible that like the Ruins quest, they can match your pace.

~

I have now realized I need to more carefully go through the lore page.

~Also, Genii Genii , don't forget to update the veterans/rookies post--I've been correcting my original post on page 34.

Really need that map 😅

Basically, there’s one main road leading North to the wall, with farmland on either side. So if Morgana set up her ritual by the road, there’d be one or two people walking past, pulling carts and whatnot. Not many, but Callan’s looking out for the rookie/guild’s reputation.
