“You Ivan?” Barry said as the horned Hunter approached the bar. The Dwarf was counting coins (his tips), but he scooped them off the counter and into his apron pocket before Ivan reached him.

“Kid n’ the others left already. Said ter meet ‘em by the city gates.” He informed the late riser.

If Ivan hurried, he’d be able to catch up to the rest of his party, who had just set out for the farm. There was only one road, and Ramirez was riding a dragon, so they wouldn’t be difficult to find.

((Welcome back Dual. If you want to jump over to the new Holes quest thread - Ramirez, Percy and Meg have met up with Giles at the gate and (only just) set off for the farm.))

Colby Back Alleys (cont'd...)

The extensive horary frame against which Hyra was forced to wait about wasn’t nearly so agonizing as the bilious odor emanating from nearby. Already fractious and somewhat hangry, she swore invectives against the missed assignation, and pondered on the subject at length, partly about what caused such an absence, but mostly all of the horrific acts that she, herself, would carry out to recompense their faux pas. How four men could fail to procure a nascent beast was conundrum enough, but to fail to arrive with an explanation was simply beyond the pale. Left to her, someone was definitely to drown in their own fluids by day’s end. Her acrimony, and all whom’d suffer resulting from such, would have to wait, for no sooner had she decided a punishment apropros to those who’d clearly incensed her, than she’d spotted the hooded, benighted hunchback standing at the other side of the alleyway, cane dug between the cobble stones, awaiting her to follow. With a final glance toward the decaying fish on the other end of the alley, she convalesced her better nature and started off toward the hunchback, ready to carry out the remainder of the day's perfidies.
To be continued...

Callan shoved open one of the inn’s heavy doors with his shoulder. He’d have used his hands if they weren’t full, clutching the scraggy hair of a few decapitated heads. Four grotesque beast-like hags with sharp yellow teeth and sunken eyes. Their faces were frozen in various expressions of rage or terror.

Black blood dripped from the poor wretches’ severed necks as the Hunter crossed the guildhall. He made a beeline for the bar, with one thing on his mind.

“Drink.” The cloaked man grunted. He was dark haired, pointy-eared and about six foot high, but a large hump on his back made him appear bigger.

Barry was behind the bar, as usual. He sighed in irritation, but got to work pouring out a shot of something into a small glass. “You’ve been busy.” He noted.

“Leave the bottle.” Callan grizzled as he dropped his morbid collection of fetid faces onto the bar - earning him a displeased scowl from the dwarf.

An armored warrior makes their way to the entrance of the guildhall, with each step sluggish. Said armor was battered and damaged. The decorative cloth ripped to shreds. Grime and dried blood stained the forged steel. At the hip was a sword, with the sheathe damaged. The armor has seen better days. Although, it's been like that for many years. The suit of armor was loud due to the heavy, tired steps from the person wearing it. Their expression was well hidden behind their helm. The big giveaway was their posture: sluggish, heavy, and stiff. Indeed, the person hiding behind the armor was beyond tired, yet they kept walking.

With the guildhall ahead, a hefty sigh came from the helm. Their speed escalates to a weakened trot. Without hesitation, they burst through the entrance of the guildhall, and they never did greet anyone there. The warrior didn't even give them an acknowledging nod. Instead, they dashed off to the living quarters. They kept on going until they reached their room, which they quickly entered and shut the door behind them.

"Home. At last." Fighting goblins seems easy until you get surrounded by half of their tribe. Removed the helmet and tossed it onto a table, revealing it to be a young woman. Her face was cut up and bruised. She never did pay any mind to it. Next, she removes her gauntlets-her arms are also in the same condition, albeit worse. Her chest plate was the next thing to be removed, and hiding underneath was dirtied and sweaty chainmail under armor. She unstraps her sword from her hip, throwing it on the floor beside her bed. The final piece of armor was her greaves. The chainmail pants are in the same condition as her chainmail shirt. Her exposed skin covered with old and new scars, her skin of pale dirtied with both grime and dried blood. The bags under her eyes were a darker shading, indicating that she hadn't slept in a while.

Placing her armor on the table with the helmet and gave her equipment a thorough examination. She stretched, which was a bad idea as her body was sore. "Hmm, I have to see Hannah, but later," Godefroi muttered, massaging the back of her stiff neck. Her feet carried her to her closet to grab a pair of fresh clothing, something casual and comforting. "Also need to get my equipment fixed. It won't do much good with it battered like that." Eyeing her armor on the table, clicking the roof of her mouth with her tongue. Great, more things for her to do, despite just returning from her little mission.

She left her room to go to the bathhouse, tucking her fresh pair of clothes beneath her arms. She avoided communicating with anyone she encountered in the hall. It's too tiresome to hold a conversation.

━━━━━━━༺༻━━━━━━━

All freshened up and her body releasing the pent-up stress, Godefroi was in the bar and was drinking light ale. She loves beverages but hates the drunken aftermath. She leaned back against her chair, ignoring the loudness of the drunken folks in the bar, and kept to herself. Her injuries were visible. Still, her focus was elsewhere. Running rapidly in her head were plans on what she should do next now that she's returned with a bit of coin. She could always donate her reward to the guild and go off again, but at the same time, her body was beyond exhausted.

"Fine," talking to herself, "I'll simply stay for a day or two before leaving on another mission." Her mind held firmly onto her recently formed plan. She takes another sip of her weakened ale. She hears a commotion nearby, making Godefroi's eyes lazily move in that direction to see what or who was making a ruckus. A woman unfamiliar with pulled herself into a minor accident, "A recruit or something? How long have I been gone?" A frown not directed at anyone was on her face. She didn't want to take another bath, especially when it came to helping someone with a bloody nose. Chugging down the rest of her beverage, Godefroi approaches the fallen woman. Her eyes locked firmly on her.

"Are you alright? Need me to take you to Hannah?" The tone of her voice was monotone and held little warmth. Hopefully, it wouldn't bother the other too much. Even though her words weren't one of friendliness, her eyes were full of concern, and her face contained a worried appearance.

Standing in the middle of a crowd, a green-eyed girl was staring up at the sun. The sun hit her in a tender way, its warmth creating a smile across her face and shimmer in her eyes. She stood still like a statue, hand over her head as passerbys whispered and children poked her to see if she was real. Unknowingly, a bright aura started to emit around her. She saw the light dance around her fingertips, now becoming a spectacle for the passerbys. “Oh!” Suddenly, she woke from her trance, realizing she’d been staring at the sun for too long. Again. Running toward where she remembered the bar was, Lithe pushed through the doors. Unfortunately for her, the sun had hindered her vision still. Before she could even utter a word to the barkeep, she had tripped over something and face planted just beside the counter. A line of blood dripped from her nose.

Callan removed his cloak and shook out the two black feathered wings he had hidden beneath it. He tossed the heavy fabric over the stool to his left, most likely so nobody could sit beside him.

“Where’s yer partner?” Barry asked as the Siren finally sat down.

Callan pretended he hadn’t heard anything. He avoided looking at the Dwarf as he knocked back his shot and poured out another. Hunting partners were for Rookies, and people with patience - Callan was neither of those.

Barry folded his short hairy arms and shook his head in disappointment. “I’m gonna ‘av ter tell her. Guild rules. No one hunts alone.” The Barman threatened, as he’d done countless times before. And by her he mean’t Beryl of course.

“No yer won’t…” Callan produced two shiny gold coins and pushed them towards the dwarf on the counter-top. A bribe to hold his tongue - not that the little guy spoke much.

Barry hesitated, but eventually tutted and took the gold. “It ‘appens again I will.” He grabbed the liquor bottle too, after Callan filled his glass again. The confiscation earned him the Siren’s full attention, and an angry glare, but Barry ignored it and walked away with a final warning. “Find a partner.”

Callan muttered some colourful curse words under his breath and was about to polish off another shot when he heard someone slip and fall behind him. Assuming he might be responsible (because he’d covered the floor in Naiad goo), he discreetly peered over a shoulder... just to check he hadn’t killed anybody.

It looked like Godefroi was handling it, so with a shrug he went back to nursing his drink.

The sound of jingling armor and weighted steps came from the entrance. At the terrifying height of 6' 2", a Tauros came in and sat at the bar counter. His gruff voice rang out like a wolf's growl, but it was kinder and more polite. "Bartender, the strongest shite you got. I need somethin' to block out the pain."

He was covered in cuts and bruises, but the smile on his face suggested he had merely wrestled with his brother or rough-housed outside. It was a childish grin, but it was obvious that whatever he had fought had actually been massive and dangerous. In what appeared to be a second, he swayed slightly, as if he were woozy, but he quickly stiffened, the childish smile back on his face.

Barry the Dwarf (as always) grumbled to himself as he got to work preparing a drink for the beaten up bull. He poured out a generous shot of Dragon's Fire and pushed it towards the Tauros.

"I can knock yer out if yer like." Callan offered. It looked like it wouldn't take much, the guy looked about ready to drop.

The Tauros laughed at that and shook his head. "Nah, I'll be fine. I just need somethin' to make it go 'way." He took the shot of ale and gulped it down, then placed a nice stack of gold coins on the table. "Keep the change; I think that'll be good payment for havin' to put up with my sorry arse!" He laughed again, his voice confident and infectious, probably causing many of the other patrons to laugh too.

Barry's lucky day! The Dwarf quickly scooped up the stack of coins and popped them into his apron before pouring out another drink for Mr Generous.

"Suit yer'self." Callan pushed his empty glass towards the Barman, hoping for a refill too, but the Dwarf just picked it up and took it away to be cleaned. "... think he's fallen out with me."

The Tauros smiled at Callan, "Want me to buy yer a drink, mate? You look like you could do with one." He said, gulping down his shot with a slight cough. He then placed another gold coin on the counter and gestured to Callan. Obviously the Tauros was much too kind for his own good, and moderately wealthy too.

After a few seconds of regaining consciousness, Lithe let out a giggle. As a rookie, it would have been pretty embarrassing if she had succumbed to a more serious injury. She could see the headlines now - rookie hunter trips and dies - a tragic tale. She reached for a handkerchief from her pocket, wiping blood from her nose as if it was a daily occurence. At the kind woman’s request, Lithe waved her hand in the air nonchalantly. “Ah, it’s okay, it’s okay. Nothing but a scratch.” She looked at the barkeep expectantly, noticing it had gotten a bit livelier as well. “Nothing a drink can’t fix.” She sat herself down, careful to not accidentally fall off. “Some ale, please.” Lithe gestured to the kind woman, offering her a drink as well. She tried to smile in a friendly manner, but it just came off comical with the handkerchief stuffed in her nose.

Callan huffed out a short laugh. “I could do with more than one.” He grizzled, watching to see if Barry would fold and serve him another drink.

“This yer new partner then?” The grumpy Redhead made no move to take the Tauro’s gold this time. He wasn’t serving the oversized turkey anymore, not until he got his act together and stopped breaking the rules.

Callan had only just met the bloke, but if it meant he wasn’t struck-off anymore - why not. “Aye, he called me Mate, didn’t you hear him?”

Barry wasn’t buying it. He went to serve Godefroi and her new friend (Lithe) instead. Placing two tankards of ale down on the counter for them.

Alice Evergarden

Once more Alice found herself at the almost Idyllic guildhall. "Idyllic..." Alice mumbled. Was that the right word? "Idyllic." She said more firmly now, entertaining the idea in her mind. "Hm." The door creaked quietly open, just enough for the raven haired girl to stick both her head and her wide brimmed hat through the gap. A glossy red gaze scanned the room before the door finally opened fully, the beaming afternoon light flowing through the door and casting the strangely long shadow of the petite girl. Then it shut behind her, and the shadow fell away. Alice took a moment to take in the strange relative peace in the building. Wisps of grainy shadow took it upon itself to slither up the base of the girls robe, swirling across the snow white fabric in a strange, almost invisible decal. Silently Alice drifted across the hall to the bar, where a majority of the patrons were.

She actually recognized a few of the faces. "Hi Godefrey." Alice said with a smile, finally formally announcing herself. "Who is this ray of sunshine? Someone new?" It had been four months since Alice was here last, so obviously there was a lot of people needing meeting. It was the best part of coming back to the guild, really, meeting the new faces was a joy. Speaking of, Alice turned her gaze to the towering titan looking ready to topple. "I don't recognize you either. Have we met?" As she spoke, she waved at Callan, winking at him with the one eye not hidden beneath her wide brim hat. She didn't expect him to react, thats what made it so enticing to throw frivolities his way. She had also tossed a nod to Barry when she sat down, just to not leave him out.

The Tauros shook his head, with a slight smirk, "No lass, I do not believe we've met." He then patted her head fatherly-like, and bought her and her friend a drink too, (another gold coin on the counter for Barry). "I'm looking for a party to take me to the east, towards the Ruins of Forgotten Whispers. Oghma has told me that his shrine there has been defiled, and it is my mission to eradicate the pesky villains responsible."

Barry returned Alice’s nod as he worked behind the bar.

Callan frowned as he received a wave and wink from Alice. He didn’t wave back, just rolled his brown eyes. Great, she’s back.

“How much?” He said after Arguis explained why he’d found himself in the Hunter’s Guild. If the quest had a hefty reward, he wanted to get in there before any of the others got wind of it.

The Tauros smiled, "Any loot you find in the caverns is yours, plus a fifty-golden coin reward. I do think that is enough to satisfy one's greed, no?" He stood, "I will be living at dawn. Barkeep, may I take the nearest room? It will take me some time to rest. I would also like to fill out a quest on any board you may have, if that's alright." He said, sounding exhausted, "I can pay if that's needed."

Callan grimaced at the offer of potential loot, he wasn’t a treasure Hunter… but the 50gc certainly caught his attention.

“Quest board’s over there.” Barry said, nodding over to a wooden framed cork-board set into one of the interior walls. It was large and absolutely overflowing with paper slips. The Hunters Guild certainly had a backlog of quests at the moment.

“Can’t give yer a room though. Guild members only.” The Dwarf explained as he returned to his work.

Callan didn’t want to miss out on all that drinking money. He contemplated for a moment. “… you can ‘ave my room.” He offered. Hunters were allowed the occasional guest over. It wasn’t a convent after all. “I usually sleep (pass out) down ‘ere anyway.”

The door opened to the tavern, and a beastfolk came in and sat at the bar. He placed a golden coin on the bar counter and murmured, "I'll take a shot of milk, my dear barkeep." His voice was hoarse and weak. He seemed quite mysterious, with tired, mature eyes. He seemed tense, not relaxed like most would be.

Godefroi didn't expect the tavern to get this much attention, but hey, it's where the partygoers are. "Callan," greeting the man with the addition of a simple nod. "Now, then." She grabs her drink, chugging it down without resistance. When done, she passes the empty mug to Barry. "Thanks, Lord of the Bar." She may be a stern person 24/7, but she has her little moments. However, the conversation between the beastman and Callan piqued her interest. She was disgruntled at the mention of goblins. "Those creatures again. I've fought one too many." Godefroi muttered under her breath. Her attention soon shifted to Lithe. Checking on the rookie before turning her attention to the newcomer. "Alice, a pleasure." Pointing a thumb in Lithe's direction, "This clumsy ray of sunshine is a recruit. As for her name," giving her a shrug of her shoulders, "I don't know." Godefroi removed herself from the small group and was grateful the beastman was the first to leave.

Walking over to the quest board, checking out the missions. "Barry, if you tell anyone where I'm going, I'll rob you of your beverages." A playful warning, her eyes turning to the man behind the bar. Her lips thin, "Great. They're rookie level." She mumbled o herself. Funnily enough, some of these quests are for experienced hunters. Godefroi rolls her shoulders and takes a random slip of paper off the quest board. It was some minor quest. It should be easier doing it solo. "Callan, do babysit the newcomer. Make sure she doesn't give herself a concussion." Leaving the tavern to head to her next destination: her room.

Morgana stepped in through the front door of the Guild Hall. She waved goodbye to the person who had guided her to this place, "Thanks! Next time I make a tincture from creature blood, I'll name it after you!" She laughed in a wheezing rasp. Her guide couldn't walk away fast enough, clearly unnerved by Morgana's zombie-like, scarred appearance.

She now looks around the guild hall curiously, all the while fiddling with a jar containing two large eyeballs. She turns to the nearest person and asks "Where do I sign up? How do I join the guild?

Alice Evergarden

The sudden ruffling of the wide brim witch hat sent a meager amount of shadowy mist out from beneath it. The thin veil of magic gas floated down upon Alice like steam enveloping her in such a way it obscured her like a thin veil, darkening the womans silhouette. "Oh callous Callan, how you wound me so!" Alice sighed with an exagerated wistfullness. She picked up the drink that the Tauros had gifted upon her. "Oh, right," Alice quipped, immediately dropping the melodramatic act, swishing the glass of alcohol about in front of Callan as if to entrance him, "you can have this if you help me move my things in. I left them outside." Her gaze had been pulled from the grump of a man as she enticed him with the prospect of drink, instead the girl was fixated on Godefroi. Crimson irises sparkled through the shadowy gaze as Alice stared intently at the slip of paper Godefroi had chosen from the board. Her gaze stayed on the other woman, following the stalwart woman until she disappeared up the stairs and out of the tavern. Alice's gaze turned now to the haunting woman that had just entered.

The white robed witch veiled in smoke gave a friendly smile to the peculiar woman, though her features were slightly obscured by the shadowy mist about her. "Why hello there! Welcome to the hunters guild! You can register with Beryl. Before that though," The shaded suggestion of Alice's arm patted the stool beside her. "Come, sit. Take a minute to introduce yourself. I'll buy you a drink if you would like." The petite girls words were accompanied by a warm demeanor and a steely gaze.
