Realistic or Modern The House on The Hill IC

Daisy's mouth was left wide open. She knew what Ty's power was and of course she had seen it in action before, but the coolness factor never went away.

"Woah. That. was. Awesome!" she said, enthralled by what just happened.

The familiar curled back from the tone Daisy used, and partly from the sight of the intimidating teeth. It wouldn't be intimidating if the dragon were at its full size, but for now it was rather scared.

Rune rolled his eyes at Daisy, before waving to Kalo, knowing the other would probably catch his mental good morning, along with his own frustration over being awake still. The mage finished off his cup as his familiar continued along the counter, twining itself around the coffee pot and hissing at anyone that came to close, growing slightly in size so that it actually looked like it fit around the coffee pot rather than just barely being behind it. "Good morning Halie, Nate, Mari," Rune greeted, gesturing to his familiar. When the dragon remained still, he sighed and rolled his eyes again. "Emrys, bring me the coffee," he stated finally.

The dragon, named Emrys, finally turned fully opaque and tangible, its bright pink scales sliding against the warmth of the coffee pot as it grew slightly more. Spreading its larger set of wings and curling the underdeveloped set to its body, Emrys grasped the handle of the coffee pot and pulled, spilling some hot coffee onto the counter as it flew rather sideways-like over to Rune, who grasped the handle and took it from his familiar to pour himself another cup. "Thank you, Emrys," he mumbled as the dragon curled around his neck to warm itself with his body heat.

A tall and thin boy was in the midst of an unfamiliar town called Northbrook. His visit was as new and short-lived as all the others he came across, but he walked without fear or caution. Not right now. He continued to climb an unrelenting, upward hill where a promise of sanctuary sat on top. He kept to the gravel path and didn't stray from it once, just as he was told. The morning was born anew, and so was this boy's life--for the better, he hoped. This boy was Leo, a sixteen-year-old brunette whose long, unruly and tousled curls peeked out from beneath a baseball cap. White T-shirt, jeans, sneakers... He looked very ordinary. Except, he wasn't; not in the slightest.

That's why Leo was looking forward to going to Songbird's Rest, a place he had heard so much about in so little time. And that was where he was headed. From what he could gather, it gave a home to "odd" or "troubled" children who had lost their way or wasn't welcome anywhere else. Which was promising. A few days prior, Leo called the caretaker of Songbird's Rest and requested to stay there. He was given an offer; he was welcome to stay inside Songbird's Rest for twenty-four hours. During that time between meeting all the residents and getting a "feel" for the place, he could choose whether to live there permanently or leave for good. They would let him do so.

Leo came to the crest of the hill, and just a few yards away, was Songbird's Rest itself. It was a humble, yet immaculate white-paneled house that was very large in length. He adjusted the backpack strap on his shoulder and tightened the handle of the instrument case. That must be it... Leo breathed deeply into the woodsy air then exhaled. He looked behind him, amazed to see the whole town from where he stood--it was quite a view.

"I hope I can feel like I belong here. Even if I'm...me," he muttered to no one. When Leo faced the white building again, he was a little surprised to find someone sitting in a chair on the porch. From this distance, he could only tell it was a male with a dark, curly afro. At the sight of another person, Leo almost felt the urge to run. He went six days without compulsively shifting--which was a long time for him--why start now when a first impression mattered most? Calming his thoughts, he continued walking forward. Okay. Another person. Be cool. Be friendly! Say 'good morning' and smile.

Approaching the dark-haired male, Leo raised his hand and waved. He attempted a smile. "Good evening--morning! Ah, um...mornin'. I'm Leo." In his thoughts, he cursed at himself. "I...was the one who called before? About staying...?"

boo. boo.

Kalo sat quietly waiting to help out, but without being told, he felt lost.

Halie watched Mari, and offered a small smile. 'No reason in causing tensions with everyone around. ' she thought.

She walked over and wrapped her arms protectively over Nate. Smiling at everyone and nodding in greeting . Out of the three Nate and Halie where the most social.

"Hey Rune. Stop making so many messes. " she said, uncoiling her arms and grabbing a few paper towels to clean the spilled coffee up.

Kalo chuckled at the familiars antics. Noivian Noivian

"Yeah, tell that to Emrys," Rune responded, giving a playful glare to the dragon. It was rather hard to do, given how the dragon was on his neck. Chuckling, he slipped off the counter and fixed his second cup, downing it shortly after.

With a yawn, Teddy sat up from his messy bed and stretched. Wiping his eyes, he reflected upon his slumber. He had a rather pleasant dream, but couldn't really identify what it was about. Something about bunnies and the country of Spain. He sat up, and decided to get dressed for the day. He was ready for another lazy day. Pulling on his favorite sweater and some jeans, he walked out of his room to go down to the kitchen and get some breakfast.

Mari was getting aditated with the growing crowd. "Nate come find me once food is ready." She told him, then weaved past people and outside. Noticing a new kid talking to the guy with portal power. Yeah, she knew very few names. "Excuse me." He tilted her head as she walked by.

Her hair color turned red, and her eyes turned green. Her body shape changed and became more feminine, fragile looking as she walked past the two.

She walked not to far from the porch, to where the gravel path started to slope down. She raised her hand as she sat down. She moved it in figure eight motions. A cloud of silver fog surrounded her, as she looked out at not a town, but the ocean. And if you stepped into the cloud, you would see the same.

She grinned as she looked out. Mari was content as long as she could use her powers. She made a choice long ago when she saved Nate. She gave up exploring for guarding a boy that opened her heart. A feat not many can do.

The sound of the made up waves calmed her, she wrapped her arms around her legs and pulled them to her chest. She normally wouldn't have to move her hand, but since she was casting an area illusion, and a radius one she had to. Her eyes pulses silver why the illusion was up. boo. boo. Tyson had just closed his eyes, leaning into back into the chair, when he heard a voice. Cracking open an eye, he caught view of a male coming up the gravel walkway. Ty opened both his eyes and stood, setting his mug back down on the chair and a grin spreading on his face.

"Welcome! Yes, I was notified about you. I'm Tyson Jackson. Call me Ty." He held out his hand. "You'll be here for a day, correct? I hope you decide to stay. I think you'd like it here." As he spoke, another member of the house left, one whose name he remembered as Mari. She passed the both of them, walking a bit down the path, before changing her appearance and creating a cloud of mist around herself. Ah yes, normal things.

"Bye bye Ty!" Faye waved as he left, speaking with a now cheerful tone. She had woken up a bit now, and the caffeine was kicking in. "Well, how about i make a few pancakes of each kind so everyone can choose what they have?" She said, placing a pan on the stove. "Alright, everyone who doesn't wanna help, go find something else for a bit. Oh, and good morning Teddy."

Teddy smiled and shuffled closer to give her a hug, before yawning and grabbing some orange juice from the fridge. "Good morning, Faye. Do.. do you know if Kai is up yet..?" He asked quietly, as he sipped on his juice. Teddy was rather introverted, so he only interacted with specific people, Kai, the fox boy, being one of them.

Nate perked up, "I can help if you need me to Miss." he said, getting a gaze from Halie. Faye had one volunteer, Kalos already, and he wasn't sure that she needed to many people to help her. It was just pancakes right?

He watched Halie wipe up the coffee spill and Nate looked to the familiar. "Your awfully messy to today Emrys." He said chuckling. @Novian FireMaiden FireMaiden C r y s t a l s C r y s t a l s

The smell of pancakes and bacon filled th house, along with the robust scent of coffee and tea. Mornings, while alsywas a little hectic, were often pretty fun. Faye loved cooking with the others, and since she was getting one of the shyer people to open up and social was a big bonus. "Hmmm, im not sure Teddy. Why dint you go check. Tell him breakfast is ready, okay?" She said, walked towards the dinning room with plates of food, orange juice, and coffee all floating around her, along with plates and silverware so she could set the table. "Someone go get Th and whoever else is outside, alright?"

Before the curly-haired stranger could respond to Leo, someone else came through the front door. The air around her seemed to...change. Perhaps she changed. He wasn't sure; he only looked at the girl for a mere second. Something was amiss, but it just didn't seem to clearly register in his mind. Leo wondered if he needed glasses and also if the girl just shifted into a different person right before his eyes.

No... That's silly. I mean, I've heard of some people bending spoons with their minds but...no. That seems too good to be true!

Leo fought the urge to look back and stare at the girl as she walked past. The fact that the curly-haired stranger did not react with the same befuddlement as Leo simply reinforced the idea that he was just seeing things. The stranger, who seemed to be in his early twenties or so, held out his hand and introduced himself as Ty. He had an effortless smile adorning his face, in addition to an amiable, composed demeanor that Leo envied. Nodding almost fervently, Leo stepped forward and shook the man's hand.

"Yeah! It's nice to meet you, Ty. Sorry for not clarifying when I would come by... That was my bad." He grinned apologetically, briefly looking down at his worn-out sneakers. "Am I too early? I was hoping to meet everyone when I got here." Leo was very accustomed to waking up early and getting things done in the morning. Sometimes, he forgot others were different and absolutely hated doing such things.

Alexander walked into the clearing around the house, with only a duffel bag.
"Это оно?" "Its larger than I thought."
He shouldered his bag, heading towards the front door. He wondered about several things, like the owner of the place and the other tenants. The smell of food grew stronger as he approached, and he thought of his last meal. It had consisted of some bread and cheese, consumed on the road with haste. He had come a long way to be here.

Kai woke up in his fox den in his fox form. He really didn't want to wake up early but he knew Teddy would be worrying about him. He stretched and changed back into his human form before getting some clothes and wandering into the bathroom for a shower. He washed and shook out his hair, ears and tails before changing and walking downstairs and into the kitchen. His eyes were sleepy and his arms ached. He went ahead and made some cereal for himself before sitting down at the dinner table. He was too tired this morning to do much else.

"I don't believe there was a time set for you to arrive, so I'd say you're just on time." Ty offered another grin, for Leo seemed a bit nervous. "It seems everyone's awake already, which is odd, so I'll take you in to meet them." He was curious as to what Leo's abilities manifested as, but he wouldn't push. He supposed he would just find out in time.

As Ty was about to enter the house, he caught sight of yet another strange. Odd, that two would arrive on the same day. Nevertheless, he waved and greeted him. "Hello, stranger! We were just about to go inside; would you like to join us?" He brushed a few odd strands of hair from his face, thinking. It was likely that the two would have to sleep in the cabin tonight, just so he could get some rooms set up for the day after. That is, if they stayed that long.

Kalos had a little fun helping cook, when it was over his smile was gone. His eyes faded back out. He fiddled with his gloves. "I will." He murmured, weaving past everyone. He walked outside, seeing Ty and a new person. He gave a gentle tug and pointed inside. "Breakfast." He said quietly.

He noticed the two new people and he lowered his head and walked quickly over to Mari. He stepped into the cloud so he be able to touch her. "Breakfast." He murmured, looking out into the illusion before running off back inside boo. boo.

Leo smile a little in return and nodded after Ty's answer. "That's a relief... I was worried. I'd feel bad if everyone had to be woken up just to meet a stranger." The boy stepped forward onto the porch, watching his sneakers as he climbed the little steps. One of the windows next to the door was left slightly ajar, and through it, Leo caught the aroma of pancakes wafting out into the air. He lifted his brows and his mouth started to water. He loved breakfast food. A younger, small boy with dark hair and pale, silvery eyes had suddenly walked out from the house, muttering "breakfast" to everyone and gesturing them to follow him as he went back inside in a hurry. He looked rather aloof and distracted by either the food or something else, but Leo just figured it was the food.

Maybe he just wants dibs on the best pancakes...

Another unfamiliar voice approached, and Leo glanced over his shoulder to see another teenage boy. He introduced himself as Alexander. Leo offered a small wave while Ty offered him to join in on the breakfast. He said to Ty, "I'll go inside and meet the others," then stepped into Songbird's Rest. The smell of pancakes was even stronger--more delicious than it had been when he was outside. He wiped his somewhat sweaty palms against his jeans.

Deep breaths... Just stay like this. Leo found the small boy from earlier. A silver, piercing gaze met his dull brown one. Due to the boy's height, Leo had to crouch down--almost ungracefully so--in order to meet it. He held out his hand to the boy. "Hi! I'm Leo. What's your name?"

Kalos was inside watching silently as the table was being set, when the new boy approached him. He watched Leo bend down to be the same height as the boy, and stretch out his hand.

A tiny flare of panic and fear swirled, swirled in the boys eyes. Even with his gloves, he was highly afraid to touch others. He didn't want to come off as rude, but he didn't want to scare the taller kid either. Leo seemed to be really perky person from his sentence, the way he spoke. "Um...."

"Kalomeire. Kalo. " The boy said, almost a whisper as his name left his lips.

Kalos reluctantly took the others hand, shaking it quickly and pulling away, biting his lip. He was trying to interact more with individuals and he didn't want to be the reason why someone didn't stay. TheWaffleLord TheWaffleLord

Rune had moved to the table, taking his mug of coffee and picking up his familiar with him, muttering apologies for the familiar's messy behavior. He didn't have a place to put the familiar, and going by the way the pigeon-sized dragon was already scrabbling in the air for the pancakes, he'd have to wait to get his fill until everyone else was done, lest Emrys tore into the pancakes and devoured them all.

With a hum, Rune thought up something quickly. With his free hand, he produced a simple white chalk and began drawing a circle on the table. Adding a few runic patterns and extra lines, he finished the containment circle and put a hand on the edge. Placing the familiar inside the circle, he removed the hand holding the familiar and activated the circle, causing invisible walls to go up around the circle, keeping the familiar from leaving. But it also allowed things to enter, so Rune did his best to occupy the area around the circle to make sure nobody accidentally got their hand stuck in it. Loading a plate full with three blueberry pancakes, and a smaller plate with a single chocolate chip pancake, he covered them in butter and syrup, sliding the chocolate chip pancake into his familiar's container and beginning to eat the blueberry pancakes. His familiar didn't need food, per say. Emrys was a being composed entirely of soul magic. It just gave Rune a boost in magic if he did feed Emrys. It also kept the familiar from tearing apart the cabinets and pantry when the duo entered the kitchen next.

"Hey Kai.. how did you sleep?" He asked, taking a sip of his juice.

Kai went from tired and grouchy to happy and smiling instantly. Teddy was adorable and was a good guy. Kai loved him and could trust him better than anyone else in the House. They were close and he was happy that they were.
"Decent," Kai said, "It's just the fact I hate waking up this early." Foxes love the night time and hate mornings and it was same for Kai. "But the sad stuff isn't interesting. How's your morning?"

Jade was flying through the clear blue sky of the morning, her white feathered wings spread as she glided, hooing in happiness as the site of the hill and the house on top came into view. She had been gone a whole month to study abroad all over the world, partly to find out the limits of her own ability as well as the history of people like her. Her small white owl's body banked left as she flew over the house in a circle, descending slowly. Eventually she saw the dark wood of her window sill and perched onto it. Jade's form stretched, her feathers pulling back into her skin as she grew taller and the structure of her body changed. In some legends, like that of werewolves, shifting is something that is a long process and very painful. For Jade, it was at first but she has learned how to manipulate the matter of her nerves, basically shutting them off during her shifts.

Bare feet hitting her wood flooring, she groaned at the immense soreness that echoed through her muscles once she was finally done. Walking forward, she found one of her favorite white sundresses in a ball besides her bed, which was currently drowning in hardback novels. Getting dressed, she smiled lightly at the commotion downstairs, having missed it all. Jade had stayed at Songbird's Rest for three years as of last month when she had gotten cabin fever and needed to get away for a little bit. Although the traveling was so much fun, it helped to remind her that this was home. Sighing in contentment, she twirled for a moment as she tried to keep her mood up, knowing that there was a telepathic in the house. "No more sadness" she murmured to herself as if to ward it off before she stepped out of her room.

Combing her fingers through the unruly mess that was her hair, she attempted to get the knots out as she made her way to the stairs, groaning at the smell of pancakes. It was as if they had planned for her to come home just now, although she doubted they knew considering she hadn't told anyone she'd be coming back now. It was a little bit of a surprise. Mustering up a smile that felt... false.... she tip toed down the stairs, not wearing shoes as usual. Hearing commotion, she slowly made her way down the hall, quietly praying that no one would sense her just yet.
