Good prose is like a windowpane. I cannot say with certainty which of my motives are the strongest, but I know which of them deserve to be followed. - George Orwell, Why I Write
Modus Operandi
1) This thread is a final base of posting for all my current interests, my plots, my dreams, my muses and the wishes that I want to pursue in role-playing. Period. Until then, expect this to be my final sort of interest check as if it were. I don't plan on making anymore interest checks in this sub-forum after I post this one.
1-A) This means that any interest check that I've posted in the past now is officially defunct. Don't bother replying to those ones or else I'll know that you didn't bother reading the first rule.
1-B) This means that I won't be bombarding the interest checks with cycles upon cycles of milquetoast threads that'll fester quickly than a drop of water in the Saharan Desert. It's a destructive habit and part of the core reason that RPnation is currently down in the dumps as it is.
1-C) This also means that as part of my upcoming New Year's Resolution, I'll only be bumping this thread with new plots once a month. I am tired of constantly bumping threads in hoping of getting a fresh fix.
2) There is absolutely no limits of age for me as an role-player. You can be as young as 14 or as old as 40. Obviously, there are extremes that I am willing to recognize but generally, I think that the rule is ineffective for several reasons. Firstly, the internet is an area of anonymity. There is absolutely no reason for a person to reveal his or her or their age online and it astounds me to think that posters believe that faith is a virtue shared by every internet user. No matter what, you'll never understand the age of anyone unless you forge a deep relationship with them overtime and slowly goad that information out of them. Seriously. Why are there age limits? I will not dismiss individuals because they may or may not be older or younger than me. That has nothing to do with their capacity as a role-player.
2-A) However, consider it a little creepy if you lie about your own age. Like, tell or don't tell. It's that simple.
2-B) And if you're like 80 years old or like 5 years old, I'll be more dumbfounded than you're role-playing at that age.
3) Alright, let's talk about writing quality. This is going to be the hardest rule. Personally, for me, I'm what all of you would consider an advanced role-player. This means that I don't role-play to enact out a single scenario or a single vision of what's going to happen. I am looking for writers - not people who write single sentences of prose or dialogue - but actual writers that take time in their posts to craft and fully flesh out their characters and the surrounding environment.
3-A) I find world-building to be the most essential aspect of being a role-player. Building a conceivable world is the true test of a role-player and something that has always interested me ever since my introduction
3-B) Third-person, first-person, second-person. Your grammatical persons will vary depending on what type of post we make. However, I always agree that using third person is best for overall writing, though, if you want to get a little experimental, using other ones is fine by me.
3-C) My usual length consists of multiple paragraphs of dialogue, prosaic description and other bits and bobs. Depending on how good a mood I find myself in, I can go up to 20 paragraphs if I'm excited enough.
4) Content. I am a huge fan of going into mature and extremely graphic themes such as violence, slavery, racism, rape, genocide and so forth. I find that if those topics are approached maturely and with perspective, it can elevate the overall tone of an RP. Other than this, I am fine with playing male or female roles, though, I usually prefer playing the male role. I am also able to play multiple characters if need be.
4-A) This is going to be something experimental. No FANDOMS and no CANON characters. I'm going to repeat myself. No CANON and no FANDOMS allowed. We can have influences from certain fandoms in our RP, but absolutely no fandoms nor canon. I can role-play those type of RPs but I find that it stifles creativity.
4-B) No NSFW or any pornographic content of any kind in the role-play. Don't say I didn't warn you.
5) Modes of Communication. Don't post or communicate with me on this thread. PM me if you're interested at all, though, at this stage of the interest check, I am still building it slowly.
5-A) In your PM, please provide a writing sample, what you're interested in role-playing with me, your reasons for being a role-player and basically, a summary of who you are as a person.
6) In terms of interaction with one another, if we ever go across that point, please take note of the following.
6-A) Chatting. I love chatting. I feel that OOC talk, not just IC talk, is the best way to maintain relations between role-players and that a friendly mood needs to be struck up in order for the role-play to continue on a natural course. It also resolves any difficulties and conflicts that we might have in IC posting.
6-B) Criticism. Though, I don't like it, it takes a lot for me to criticize a post and I will try my best to be impartial as possible. Otherwise, please feel free to provide criticism as well. It's how we improve as writers.
7) In terms of posting periods, I am absolutely patient, although, a period of several months makes me question whether or not you're able to continue to RP. Alas, take note of the above rule and please try and communicate with me.
