INTRODUCTION

For hundreds of thousands of years, countless organisms have attempted to overcome the harshest challenge of all: survival.

Yet, in the grand scope of life, only a mere handful have managed to endure the tests of time and defend their claim to the land and seas. The Grand Races of El'yssi stand proud of this accomplishment; having mastered even the most extreme climates the continent has to offer. However, despite such success, the history of the planet and the continents beyond the seas remain a shrouded mystery that none have unraveled.

Ten percent.

This is the estimated understanding of the world that has been documented by the five great nations of our races. Within our records, there are countless species ranging from the smallest of insects and plants to the greatest mythical beasts that reign over the land and seas. To some, the idea of the unknown is a fearful prospect; however, for many, the allure of the unknown drives a greater sense of purpose.

Glory, fame, wealth, and knowledge.

Decades of expeditions have been fueled by differing passions. Yet, even with our diverse goals, a single emotion has remained consistent across all generations: curiosity.

Curiosity has instilled within us an insatiable hunger that drives us to the boundaries of the world in search of secrets yet to be uncovered. Curiosity has spurred us to the ruins of our ancestors in search of the origins of our kind. Curiosity has compelled us to look to the future and wonder what potential still awaits us.

And now it is your turn to don the mantle of your forefathers and plunge into a world where both danger and adventure await.

This invitation is the first page of your story.

THE GUILD

In an era of unbridled curiosity, the Guild has become a cornerstone of modern El'yssian society. It is an illustrious city-state hosted within its own region and governed by a forum of representatives from each of the five Grand Races. Originally, the Guild was established as a safe haven for aspiring adventurers, but, it has now evolved into a continent-spanning institution that oversees the development and regulation of all adventurers. At its core, the Guild's mission is to achieve a complete record of the planet, including, but not limited to the documentation of flora, fauna, and archeological history.

Given its influence, knowledge, and strength, the Guild also plays a vital role in the continent's defense. Its members are often called upon to investigate circumstances that exceed any nation's expertise, such as foreign relics, territorial high-ranking beasts, or even epidemics, blight, and disease.

Yearly, the Guild hosts an examination, inviting applicants from across the land for an attempt to join this illustrious organization. Nonetheless, not all applicants are fit for the life of an adventurer, and it is the Guild's responsibility to nurture those who dare to walk the unknown and bring greater understanding to our world.

Members of the Guild are divided by their Rank, which signifies their overall experience and expertise as an Adventurer. Everyone must start somewhere, and that "somewhere" is known as a Seeker. Seekers are further divided into multiple ranks, ranging from D through B. Successful completion of quests, discoveries across the land, and other forms of Guild activities grant Seekers the opportunity to rise through the ranks.

Upon reaching Rank B, a Seeker is given the opportunity to choose a specialization that aligns with their core interest as an adventurer. Specialized adventurers are considered experts of their fields and are given higher clearances to undertake quests and expeditions that are otherwise barred from lower-ranked members.

The highest rank a guild member can achieve is Rank S. At this rank, an adventurer is considered the pinnacle of their specialization. It is an esteemed honor that is only awarded to those who have achieved unfathomable feats. Historically, S-rank adventurers include those who have quelled cataclysmic level threats or have invited a discovery or invention that shaped the very facets of society.

Seeker

Seekers are fledgling adventurers tasked with gaining a deeper understanding of the world. All candidates who join the Guild must begin their journey as a Seeker.

Due to the high volume of applicants, all hopeful Seekers are required to undergo an examination that tests their aptitude as an adventurer. Seekers are placed into small, close-knit teams, each guided by a specialized Adventurer who serves as their mentor. Over the course of a month, every team is required to have completed a low-leveled, Guild-sanctioned quest. Following this, each member of the team is then evaluated based on their individual performance, team synergy, and growth throughout the month.

If successful, graduates of the examination are given their official rank, ranging from D through B. Experience, talent, and performance during the examination may impact the assigned rank; however, it is a rare occurrence for any new Seeker to be awarded a Rank above C.

There are many activities a Seeker can engage in, including, but not limited to, undertaking appropriately leveled quests, conducting research on new technologies and scientific methodologies, delving into ruins and dungeons, and other Guild activities. The only requirement is that Seekers are required to act in teams of at least three members, and that no team can undertake a quest that exceeds the highest ranked member of the team.

It is common practice to see members of examination teams continue to work and grow together; though, it is equally common that individual members set out to find others who better suit their personality and interests.

Specialization: Wild Tamer

Wild Tamers research the various Fauna which live throughout the land and seas of El'yssi and continents beyond. Such research is not limited to the discovery of new species, but also includes the known. Mannerisms, habitats, environmental relationships, breeding, and potential benefits for humanity are but a few of the criteria that are researched by Tamers. At the end of the day, a comprehensive understanding of every species is the day-to-day goal of the specialization; however, as necessary, they are also called upon to subdue any dangerous fauna that threaten the wellbeing of any Nation or any exploration teams.

Specialization: Alchemist

The title of Alchemist is a general term for a wide breadth of research. El'yssi is teeming with floral and fungal life, and unlike Tamers whose primary focus is the documentation of knowledge, Alchemists tend to focus on application. Alchemy is backed by decades of scientific research which stem from countless experiments that have been conducted on fungi and plants. Because of this research, groundbreaking improvements have been experienced across history, including but not limited too, agricultural advancements, medicinal breakthroughs, and even culinary delights. Alchemists who do not indulge themselves with scientific developments are often hired as medics for exploration teams.

Specialization: Archaeologist

The final specialization is a unique outlier because it does not focus on living organisms--rather civilizations long past. Ruin Divers, as implied by their title, scour the land in search for ruins and the secrets they hold. Understanding the ancestors of humanity, as well as the various triggers which sparked their evolutionary differences, are the goals of Rune Divers. All specializations are considered high-risk occupations; however, Ruin Diving is considered the most perilous of them all. Curses, dangerous relics, and traps within the ruins are but some of the dangers Ruin Divers must contend with on a day to day basis. Because of their expertise, Ruin Divers are often hired as guides for the other specialization who seek specific knowledge from the depths of caverns and ruins.
