Fantasy The Guardians of Gerhard interest check

Elysium

Nuts
In the land of Gerhard, there exists a group of mercenaries under the employ of the king. These mercenaries roam the land, living the lifestyle of nomadic knights, correcting wrongs and stopping evil that the formal military could not get to in a timely manner. These mercenaries are known as the Guardians, a motley group of people scouted by the royal family, or rather its closest generals, and rewarded for their signing of the contract, whether that reward be coin or promise. Well known about the land, and even beyond its borders, The Guardians are a big part of the relative peace of the country, while the continent around it is embroiled in a large war over territorial rights. No one wants to mess with Gerhard. Gerhard is a peaceful, but strongly militant, country in a relatively out of the way part of the mainland.

However, that peace was recently shattered in an event that shocked the entire continent. King Dreden Gallus, three decade patriarch of the land, was assassinated, shortly after the birth of his second son. Furthermore, the castle was burned throughout with raging hellfire, killing nearly everyone inside, including the queen and seven year old first son. The land was now in chaos, with an heir that wouldn't be ready for over a decade. A retired general took the throne as regent, moving the capitol to the second largest city and taking up residence with the governor. There are currently no leads on who did the deed, but the magical traces contain immense power, even residually.

Upon receiving word of the incident, The Guardians began to double time it back to the new Capitol, when they were waylaid by a Gondar bandit raiding ambush. These raiders have long been a thorn in Gerhards side, but they hadn't met The Guardians yet. The mercenaries, over the course of three days, fought and found the main fortress of these raiders. The bulk of the group kept going to report to the king regent. A select task force was chosen to infiltrate and destroy the bandit clan in their own stronghold. This is the story of that select group, and their adventures that would shake the foundations of the continent for the next several years.

This is a team based rp, a classic good guys versus bad guys, sword and sorcery plot. Take one of the vague roles below, and create a character however you'd like with that vague description.

This is going to play like a game of dungeons and dragons, or Baldur's Gate 3. I’ll be DM and control the world around, such as exploding castle towers or crumbling cavern floors, as well as the character role I'll play. I don't need to be the leaders of either group, but the leaders will end up becoming my co-gms. I'll be one of the leaders if no one else wants one of those roles. I have a loose story, and the first few chapters have a beginning, middle, and end in mind. However, the details of the chapters will be filled in by the choices the characters make.

I don't need every role to be filled to start the RP, I just need to get about half of both groups to start. If only a few people join, I'll allow extra characters. If the RP blows up, I can add roles. It won't be hard to shoehorn in a new character with a set up like this.

The reward I mentioned for the Guardians can be money or a promise from the royals, such as moving your poor family to a nice setup in the city, or whatever. Steal that example if you want, don't care. Talk to me if you need help with that.

Hero roles

The Arcanist - a innately talented spellcaster that gets their strength from sheer strength of will, or hubris as a formally trained mage would say. A charismatic force of arcane strength that is better on our side, than on our enemies

The Archer - a survivalist that's as comfortable being on their own, as they are providing cover fire on a team. A skilled tracker that's a crack shot when recon becomes battle.

The Leader - a mid-ranked officer in the main corps, chosen to be commander for this mission. A capable combatant with years of experience, although they may not be quite completely hardened yet.

The Mage - a mage that dabbles in all types of magic, and knows their stuff when it comes to all things magical, and is well read in general. Have a question, ask the Mage.

The Noble - a youngest child of a large noble family, far removed from being an heir, and promised to the Guardians in return for favor from the royal family. Formally educated in magic, combat, and general knowledge, but short on real experience.

The Priest(ess) - A goodly cleric who found revelation and joined the Guardians as a healer and source of divine knowledge. A source of wisdom and guidance for the mercenaries.

The Rogue - a smooth talking, light fingered, shady scoundrel with a quick wit and a hidden dagger. A fine friend, but keep an eye on your coin purse in their presence.

The Smith - a veteran warrior who retired from the front lines to build armor and weapons for the military. Took up arms once again when times became tough.

The Soldier - a new talent that impressed all their higher ups during training, and was accepted by the Guardians very early into their career. Untested but shown to be capable during training and early missions.

The Vagabond - a proven combatant that constantly looks for new ways to challenge themselves, sometimes leading to headaches. Despite this, their skill and luck has proven them dependable time and time again.

Villain roles

The Assassin - a deadly killer-for-hire that's feared and respected in the underworld. Their blade never misses its mark, and their soul is tainted with innumerable kills.

The Bandit - The leader of the Gondar bandit clan, with designs on their own Gerhardic throne. Savage and hateful, this merciless beast in mortal skin is a prime suspect in recent events.

The Lich - a long dead wizard with a powerful ability in darker magics. Seems like they just want to watch the world burn, but could they have a clever ulterior motive lurking in that sadistic, seemingly insane rotted mind?

The Oathbreaker - a former paladin that lost their path after a traumatic life event. A powerful warrior with few remaining morals and a warped sense of honor.

The Unholy - a war priest of a dread god, this zealot promises power to his cohort and brings pain and torment to his foes. Or people who look at them too long.

The Warlock - a ruthless spell sword that sold their soul to an abyssal entity for greater power. Enough of a fiend in their own right, this vengeance seeker wields b

oth hellfire and steel.
