This is the first day of the Academy for new and returning students. The academy had hosted people from nobles to orphans and grew them to be powerful people in society. Now it was the four time to shine. izayoiix
Sam was ready for another year at this academy. She had already said goodbye to her mother, and unfortunately, her stepfather who had demanded that he would be brought along. He wanted to see what was so great about this academy that didn't let everyone in. It would be easy to tell him, that only those with the blessings of the gods on them would be invited to this academy. It was truly for the lost souls. Children that the gods took pity on, and blessed them giving them some of their power. As for Sammy, it was a few years ago, that she was blessed by Ares. She was running from her stepfather as her mother was at work. And he was drunk and she was scared. She bumped into this man, and he told her that she needn't run anymore. He will give her the power to fight back.
And in a flash, this power, this feeling came threw her. Next thing she knew, she was standing over her stepfather's knocked-out body and the man was grinning this grin. That's when she found out that she was blessed by the Greek god of war. Her power was two sides of the coin, she had crazy bloodlust, and the ability to adapt to any fighting style but she could lose control and she turned into a fighting monster. It was the downfall of anyone blessed by Ares but he gave her the power to fight back and she would never take it back. Now Sammy was the leader of the Ares Faction and she was ready and strong enough to take anyone on that she wished to but now all she wanted was to see her best friend, and finally see that smiling dork.
Her light, Jasper.
They had met the first time that Sammy came to the academy and had been on countless missions with him. He was the only one she truly trust with everything aside from her home life. But it was hard to hide it, even though she had the blessing of Ares, she refused to use her power again after her stepfather was knocked out. Her mother was treated to worse when she fought back so she kept her tongue and strength. She took the beatings to protect her. And that's why every year she comes back with bruises and every year she hides from him but she couldn't this year. They had a meeting with the principal this morning. Something about a mission, and she needed to meet up with him as soon as they could.
Hani waved off his mother as she drove off and left him at the place where he truly felt like he belonged.
The Greek Academy for Lost Souls.
Unlike his other students who came here after being blessed by the god, by either showing a need that they needed to be saved or the god just wanted to see what would happen if given a chance to be more. Hani was born blessed. A rarity. He was blessed with the gift of fire from the moment he was born. It only happened a few hundred years or so, a child with the blessing of Hephaestus would be born with the power to control fire. This time around it was Hani who was the lucky chosen. It was up to the directors of the academy to find him, and bring him to the school which they did but only after he ended up burning down the house that his mother and he were living in.
The thing about the power of fire, it was only activated at times of great emotions. Some with the blessing do not even ever get to use it. They live normal lives but Hani had a dick of a stepfather. And he witnessed the man try to harm his mother at the mere age of 6, and it caused the power to grow inside of him. Next thing he knew, he was dragging both his mother and the dick out of the burning house. Unaffected by the fire. That's how the academy found him, and that's how his mother left his stepfather. They were given safety, and Hani was told about the gods and the truth of it all. From there on, it was just history. He started to go to school here, while his mother rebuilt their lives.
Hani learned to keep his emotions in check, his power directly responded to his emotions. If he didn't keep it in check, it would cause his power to go out of control and he would harm others. So he became a bit of a recluse like his father tending to stay away from others but that didn't stop his faction from making him the leader since he was the only one with the power of fire. As he said, he had a rarity of sorts. Now he was simply walking into the front gates, as he made sure his gloves were on when he bumped into someone. He cursed as he saw that he made a book of theirs fell, one that he had seen a lot, and went to go pick it up for them.
"I'm so s-s-sorry, I-i-i wasn't paying attention." He mumbles as he looked at the ground. He didn't need to look up to know who he bumped into.
The only girl that could ever make Hani's emotions go out of control.
Another day, another dollar. That's what Jasper would say if he was actually working. Well, one could say he did, but it wasn't like he actually got paid, which was definitely unfortunate. Jasper Oriana, son of Apollo and a student of the Greek Academy for Lost Souls.
With a title like that, one would think it a grand place, and maybe it was. But all Jasper, and many other children, could see it as a place to prepare for more trauma. After all, who came to a school like this with a blessing from a god, without having had some sort of pain in their young lives? He certainly didn't know anyone at this school who hadn't suffered from some sort of tragedy.
After all, he hadn't seen his mother in years. Ever since she'd been hospitalized and he'd been taken by social services and placed in another home, he hadn't been allowed to visit. Something that ate away at him as he got older. Sure, it caused his father to visit, giving him his 'blessing'. That was kinda nice, but the warning that came with it to stay away from his mother stung. He could tell the god didn't mean it maliciously, but he couldn't help but hate the immortal for it a tiny bit.
If it hadn't been for him, then the visions that plagued his mother would never have escalated to this point.
But what did he know. He was just a teenager stuck with powers and abilities that allowed him to go on missions that led him to fight for survival.
Which, speaking of missions, he was pretty sure he needed to get a move on. Jasper was pretty sure he was supposed to meet his best friend, and partner, Sammy so they could head to the principal's office for a new mission. Great, just what he wanted first thing in the morning....
Well, at least he'd be with Sammy.
Picking up the pace into a jog, he hurried to make his way to the front gates of the Academy. Thankfully, it didn't take long for him to catch sight of her.
"Sammy!"
he called out, waving a hand to help her find him in the crowd. Jasper could only feel himself smile at the sight of the daughter of Ares.
Theirs was a somewhat strange friendship to most who saw them, but neither of them cared much for what others thought. They were best friends, and that was enough for them.
"Ready to go in?"
he asked, coming to a stop beside her.
"Sorry I'm late. It took me longer than I thought to get here from my foster's."
Having managed to find her way from the train to the front gates of the illustrious school she attended, Althaia sighed, clutching the strap of her bag tightly in her fist. The Greek Academy of Lost Souls. Yeah...lost souls. That sounded about right. Theta definitely counted as a lost soul. She'd been on her own for so long now, she didn't really know why she bothered sometimes.
Sure, she could tell that her mother, the goddess Hecate, cared about her to some degree. But was that enough? Based on the fact that her father hated her and could've cared less if she really was dead or not after the fire, she really didn't know why her mother wanted her to survive. Surely the world would've been better off without her?
What good was a girl who could do magic when she couldn't even use it to help anyone?
Ever since she was young she'd had to struggle to control her emotions, her abilities reacting at the slightest change. Sure, most kids had been blessed by their parents as they got older, but Theta guessed Hecate wanted her to have a fighting chance. It did the job in the end, her powers did save her life at a young age.
She shook her head, trying to purge the thoughts from her mind. She needed to focus. She didn't want to have a negative start so early in the new year.
"You'll be fine..."
she murmured, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Just...make it inside. Everything's always better here."
So lost in thought, she didn't even realize how close she was to someone else, causing them to bump into her, making the book she'd been holding fall. She gasped, stumbling slightly before she caught herself.
"O-oh, no, um..."
she paused, feeling her face flush as she realized who she'd bumped into.
Hani Blake.
Theta swallowed nervously, hands shaking as she accepted her book back. Her face felt way too warm. Had the temperature suddenly risen? Surely she hadn't been this warm a moment ago?!
"O-oh, no, it's um, fine, I wasn't paying attention either so..."
Sam was waiting for him, looking at the time on her phone. "Come on Sunny, where the hell are you?" She mutters as she leans against the gates. Knowing that their principal was going to be more than pissed if they were anymore longer to get to this mission briefing when she heard her name being called. She looked up and grinned to see Jasper in the crowd. Waving his hand as he moved to get to her. She almost started to make people move when he got to her. She shook her head. "Let's just hurry, I do not want to hear Mr. D's voice. I don't care if he is a god, I will punch that man." She told him rolling her eyes.
"How were the fosters? Better than the last one?" She asked him. Sammy was one of the trusted few who knew Jasper's story. Took some time for him to trust her with it but once she knew, she knew that she wanted to punch Apollo straight in his face. How do you leave the kid that you bless with your powers and call your son alone in the system, where he's not going to be loved and cared for by strangers? And then tell him to stay away from the one person that he remembers loved and cared for him until she had to go away for his safety. Fucking bullshit, she thoughts. If only she and her mother could take him in, but her stepfather who never allow that. There was no way he could hide his anger issues from someone else in the house, and nor did Sammy even want to put him in that type of danger.
It was the reason she still hadn't told him the truth about her home life.
All that Jasper knew was that Ares blessed her when she was getting hurt by someone. She never went into detail and he never really asked. Knowing that it was a touchy subject for her. And it was, just like he saw the bruises at times but he never asked or she would give an excuse that would never fully explain the injuries. She knew that her excuses weren't fooling him, Jasper wasn't dumb unlike what most people think. He's pretty smart and can figure shit out if he digs deep but he hasn't with her, and she knew why.
He didn't want to know the answer, and she truly didn't want to give him one.
They moved through the crowd, getting to the office. Throughout this time, to not lose him in the crowd, Sammy held his hand, she hates physical touch, and a lot of people in her cohort know this. There was an incident where someone touched her shoulder and she judo-flipped them. They have to call Jasper in to help her calm down. Everyone knows that if Sammy is on a rampage, get Jasper because no one can calm her down but him at those times. Jasper is the only one that she lets near her in those times.
Once they get to the office, she knocks on the door and waits, turning to Jasper still holding his hand. "You think this mission is another get a blessed kid?" She asked him as they waited for the door to open.
Hani couldn't understand why she wasn't angry at him. He was the one at fault, for not paying attention and he ended up knocking all her books down. It was truly strange, but as he looked up to see her, he couldn't help but smile softly at her. He has been here for almost as long as she has, he couldn't help but notice her. Notice her beauty, her kindness, and her spirit. Everyone in his cohort knew how bad his crush was on Theta as they could be talking to him and just one look at her passing by, he would either be too distracted to truly pay attention or anything in his hands would melt or catch on fire.
He was completely under her spell, and he wouldn't have it any other way.
Hani never had the courage or the guts to go up and talk to her. Always watching from a distance, he had put out a warning to her cohort and any others that Theta was not to be messed with as she was under protection with his cohort and hers, without her knowledge, he had been protecting her for as long as he knew her. He just wanted to make sure she was safe and happy. He never wanted to see sadness on her face as he thinks even though she was beautiful even with tears, he wouldn't be able to handle it, seeing her in tears. He would want to destroy anything and everything that even dared to bring tears to her eyes. He took a deep breath and nodded to her.
"M-m-my mother just dropped me off, I was t-t-thinking about her." He told her softly as he handed her the book back. Hani then looked ahead at the crowd in front of them. "I-i-if it's not too much trouble, d-do you mind if I walk you to your dorm or w-w-wherever you are headed to?" He asked as a burst of courage came out. Knowing that he wanted nothing more but to stay by her side for a little while longer. "M-m-maybe we c-c-could talk as well?" He asked shyly as he blushed looking down. His hands started to warm up as he grew nervous, but he took a calm breath and pushed down the fire inside of him.
Hani wanted this, he needed to not let his power control him for once in his life.
Oh yeah, Sammy was definitely annoyed. It was definitely his fault though, so Jasper couldn’t blame her. Not that he would, he could never blame her for anything. Anytime something went wrong, it was more than likely his fault. He was a tad scatterbrained.
“They’re…eh.”
he shrugged, falling into line beside his friend as they hurried to make their way to Mr. D’s office. The god of wine was surely already going to be pissy with them due to Jasper’s inability to arrive on time.
The brunette wished he’d been on time, but unfortunately his current fosters were not very good at realizing he had to follow a set timeframe. As the newest member to the house, his ‘appointments’ as they called them were the lowest on the totem pole. Which he found to be a tad strange considering what made them late was his eldest foster sister’s hair appointment.
Despite him having told everyone he needed to be back at school by a certain time and her appointment being made yesterday, it didn’t matter. He thought it was bullshit, but arguing would have only made him later.
With a sigh, Jasper shrugged again, unsure of what else he could say. He’d already rambled about similar issues with Sammy before and truthfully, he didn’t feel up to going over it again.
Upon reaching the office, Sammy took initiative and knocked on the door before turning back to look at him.
“I dunno…”
he frowned, considering.
“That’s a lot in a short period of time…What are we, the new welcoming committee?”
he joked, trying to lighten the mood.
Offering a small but goofy grin, he went to try and make another joke, only to be interrupted by the voice of Mr. D telling them to enter.
“Think he’ll turn me into a sunflower or something?”
Her face had to be on fire. Surely, she was going to combust. Theta knew that Hani could control fire, that it was one of his gifts from his father. Everyone knew, and it was evident by the fact that he was always wearing gloves. Hani Blake was definitely one of the more impressive people that Theta knew of and the fact that he was actually speaking to her of all people? She couldn’t believe it.
And he wanted to walk with her? And talk? More?
Why in the name of the gods would he want to do a thing like that? She was worthless compared to him. Gods why was she ruining this for herself, she was pathetic.
With slightly shaking hands, Theta accepted her book back, glancing down as their hands brushed. She swallowed nervously, eyes flashing back up to meet his.
“Uh…y-yes! Yes? U-um, I mean…that would be nice…”
she trailed off voice cracking at the end in embarrassment. She was such a mess.
“Th-thank you..for picking up my book.”
she added a moment later, reaching up to tuck a stray piece of hair behind her ear. With her other hand she clutched her book tightly to her chest, unable to bear the idea of dropping it once more.
Shuffling her feet for a moment, she came to a decision without fully realizing it. Taking a deep breath she slid sideways half a step so that she was standing closer to Hani.
“I just got in myself…”
she murmured softly, glancing down at her shoes, her face still full of a pleasant warmth.
“U-um, I wouldn’t mind the company…i-if you’re sure you don’t mind. I was headed for my dorm…”
