  personality

  All Lucky wants is to be good enough. The last time he truly felt loved was far back then he can remember. He's friendlier than most people, more open than most. He's just trying to find his tribe. But, he has always had this sneaking feeling that there is more to his life, a destiny he might not be ready for. He doesn't dwell on that but it's always in the back of his mind.
  
  As much as he wouldn't like to admit it about himself, Lucky hates to be wrong. He's exceptionally gifted but it goes beyond that sometimes. He has to be a know it all because if he knew more about himself as a child then, maybe, he could have saved his father's life. And his grandmother is no help at all, sending the boy to the Institute only to restore the family name. But, Lucky longs for adventure and mystery.
  
  He can't stand disloyalty, especially when it comes from a supposed friend. He won't hesitate to cut someone off for backstabbing him even once. His only friend to date knows this and doesn't dare try to do such. Of course, a true friend would never commit such a heinous act but everyone knows that his mother did something horrible to him in order for him to have this huge of a trust issue with him. He only wants to see the world thriving even though he knows not all people's motives are genuinely good.
  
  Underneath all of it is a longing to know exactly why he is who he is. Not a general definition of being a warlock; why is he Leorian Maxwell in the first place. Why did his father have to die? Why was his mother so deranged? Was this all he was meant to be? With this question, there is a burning rage that Lucky dissociates from entirely. If it were ever to turn sour the world could really know the face of a devil.

  There was a time where everything was simple and sweet. Lucky remember's his father's face very well. It resembled his own, other than the fact that he had his mother's eyes. Clairissa and Luke Maxwell loved one another deeply. He was older but strong and kind. She was gentle and had a perpetual glow of joy. Their love blossomed and brought forth a set of twins. However, one was stillborn, which saddened them. However, they were happy to have one to hold on to forever. They called the little bundle of life "Lucky One" so many times to the point where they'd call him Lucky before using his birth name. They seemed to be happy and the magic flowed strongly in their home.
  
  Then, his father became sick. Magic wasn't strong enough to fix what was broken within him. Still, Lucky's mother tried what she could anyway. Her efforts began to weigh on her psyche. She dabbled in the black arts-- profane and disturbing rituals that twisted her mind even further. Lucky was four when she attempted to "free" him. To her, she was doing the right thing--sending the boy to where he was always meant to be. She arranged a stake in their backyard, with tindling wrapped all around it. Then, she tied the boy to the stake and lit it.
  
  At first, Lucky thought it was a weird game. But, then, the flames grew higher and higher. His mother cooed him, telling him he'd be okay. But, the way her face was twisted resembled anything but his mother. The boy screamed at the top of his lungs, expression magic bringing the woman to her knees at the mouth of the flames that erupted onto her. She was submerged in fire, heartwrenching screams breaking forth. His father found the two because of that. He pulled Lucky from the makeshift pyre, in his weakened state. The once-strong man looked like a faded memory of himself as he carried his child to safety. He then dropped to his knees, watching in terror as he watched her dance in flames. Luke never recovered from that day.
  
  Neither did Lucky.
  

  consequence

  Months after the deaths of his parents Lucky found himself in the care of his maternal grandmother, Arella. She never liked his father and Lucky looked just like the man who ruined her dear Clarissa's life. Later, he'd learn that the woman thought Luke's muggle blood spoiled the line. She demanded Lucky's name be changed to Leorian Hardwick, his mother's maiden name. He absolutely refused from day one. And so, the cycle of pain began. Arella would feed the boy scraps and make him study in the poorest conditions. She also delivered harsh punishments for errors--like drinking the potions he'd mess up, knowing there'd be an adverse reaction, or standing in the cold in nothing but his pajamas if he forgot to cut wood for a fire.
  
  Lucky learned quickly that, in order to live, he'd have to take what he needed to survive. He made it a point to deny his grandmother any satisfaction. He even started wearing his hair long, like his father used to in order to get a good sneer out of the woman. In secret, Lucky studied expression magic, an ancient and dangerous kind of craft that drew from the darkest parts of your mind and soul. Although Lucky was a sweet boy, he flourished with this craft. The pain had to go somewhere, right? So, he sent it down below and bent it to his will.
  
  But, it was becoming more and more apparent that Lucky was not going to be anything that Arella wanted. The final straw was when Lucky admitted that he was homosexual. There'd been rumors of romantic displays with his tutor, who was 2 years his senior. Arella, now disgusted that her family would end with the gandson she so despised, Looked for a place--any place--that would take him. The Institute that her family had gone to for generations welcomed his application wholeheartedly. But, the twist was that he be placed in the Goode Coven. "A little tradition ought to clear that foul mind of yours." she told him as they parted ways. Now, Lucky is on his own and beginning to wonder if he was really cut out to be his father's legacy at all.
