  This home was originally built by Paul Hawthorne in the late 1880’s. Over the years, additions and renovations such as the greenhouse and other parts were added by Walter. It rests in Old Nob Hill, a traditionally upper class part of San Francisco. With Bayside views and detached enough from the downtown hustle, it makes for a central point for the Hawthorne family.

About 3 hours from the city and 1.5 hours from the gold and silver mines, the location is strategic for business and play. With a sprawling beach access point, boat, and many other amenities, it’s simply a millionaires playground.

  Location: Sierra Nevada
  Built overlooking the ocean and the Sierra Nevada, the Flemming Ranch is a 26,000 acre property that Arthur holds dear to his heart. He long ago banned any form of hunting, logging, or unnecessary motorized vehicle on the property; he does love his peace and quiet. The property is strictly invitation only and even then, the guest list is very limited. A small train runs between notable portions of the property, the only method of travel that does not involve horses permitted on the property.
  
  The family yacht, often spotted in San Francisco Bay, is also located here, about a ten minute train ride from the main house. With it are two sailboats, one large one for entertaining, and a second that can be sailed by one person if needed. There is a full service airfield where Arthur keeps several planes that he enjoys flying throughout the state.

  The Flemmings Lake house is on the shores of Lake Tahoe, resting in the middle of 1,600 acres, 100 of which are waterfront. Like the Ranch, this house is a family hideaway, but the kind one often see's friends and extended family visit. Unlike the Ranch, it welcomes visitors whenever the family is home. Two small motor launches are available for puttering around on the lake.

  History:
  Walter was the first born child of Paul and Charlotte Hawthorne. Born in San Francisco, 1946, he was alive just in time for the start of The Gold Rush two years later. His father acquired a plot of land in the Sierra Nevada mountains. When Paul struck gold, the family's lives changed along with their newfound wealth. His father went from being a labourer to establishing his own town of Goldwater. Whether it was gold or later silver, the mines had been the making of the Hawthorne family's wealth.
  
  From as early as he can remember, Walter had always looked up to his parents. He respected everything his father did. Whether it was the business, their Christian values, or the way the man ran the household, Walter believed his father's way to be the right way.
  
  Walter was able to grow up with the best education and was popular with his peers. Despite his conservative family, he was the life and soul of many a gathering. It was during his time at university when he first met Mary. She wasn't a student, but instead worked in the campus library. The couple married in 1867, when Walter was 21.
  
  After completing his degree, Walter returned to his family home, with Mary, where he continued supporting his father and the family's empire. With his own home and wife, Walter was ready to start a family of his own. Unfortunately, they eventually came to learn Mary was unable to bear children. Despite his disappointment, Walter's love for Mary and his respect of the vows of marriage, meant he had to come to terms with the fact they wouldn't be able to have their own children. It was something his father was disappointed about, realising he would have to count on Walter's siblings to continue the family name, which meant he had to work even harder to keep his father's respect.
  
  Walter had been married to Mary for 14 years when the woman health began to decline, along with displaying cognitive and behavioural changes. In 1883, she passed away, having succumbed to the malignant brain tumour. Although Walter grieved for the woman, he soon fell into the arms of his close friend, a younger woman, Rose, who had been there for him during the toughest times. Encouraged by his father, Walter didn't waste any time in asking her to marry him.
  
  It was with his second wife that Walter was able to become a father, with Daniel born first along with [details to be added when all siblings submitted]. Although Walter had loved Mary, she had never been able to give him a family, so his bond with Rose and his second marriage were forged on deeper foundations. The couple had their problems, of course, not aided by Walter's closed-minded and abrupt nature, but if anyone could tame that in him, it was Rose. As cold and strict he appeared, it was still a softened version of him with his wife there to rein him in a little.
  
  In 1914, when Rose passed away following a heart attack, Walter no longer had anything to calm his cutting nature. Given he was older and more weathered than her, he'd always expected to die before his wife, so her sudden death came as a shock. From that day, he became a less pleasant man to be with, no longer having a care to tone down his ways. Some would say his grief was the cause of the changes in him, but others figured it was who he always had been, deep down.
  
  With Daniel's marriage to Lillian rapidly approaching, Walter isn't exactly thrilled. Granted, it would take one hell of a woman to impress him, but her career as an actress and her free-spirited nature causes him to have doubts. Not only in her ability to fall into line and become a Hawthorne, but also as to whether or not she can be trusted. A naïve fool or a truly skilled actress, Walter hasn't decided yet. What he is sure of, is that Daniel will be the one to fill his own shoes one day and Lillian can't jeopardise that.

  Daniel is first and foremost, charismatic. He could talk his way out of nearly any situation, and you'd be surprised how many he's had to do that for. Now that he's settled down, physically and mentally, he's tailored his charisma for patient care rather than nefarious activities. He's a talented doctor, organized, and caring. Even if he has to deliver a terminal prognosis, he'll do so empathetically. Otherwise, he's very altruistic about his career and impact on the Bay area. Overall, he's very emotionally intelligent. As the eldest brother, he's naturally protective over his siblings. Whether supporting them through a hard time or taking them out for a night on the town. He will always be there for his siblings. With their mother gone, he's found himself as the emotional voice of reason in the family against their father.
  
  However, Daniel can be turbulent with his emotions. He can be unrealistic with his standards and goals, which often leaves him frustrated or disappointed. More often than not, he catches himself taking on his sibling's problems. Whether that be to avoid them reaching their father or he genuinely thinks he can solve it.   From a young age, Daniel knew he had large shoes to fill. As a young boy, he looked up to his father. Who wouldn't? He was well respected, provided a comfortable life for his family, and seemingly loved him. In his earlier years, he often tagged along with his dad to visit the mining towns. He never had much interest in the manual labor that came with the job, instead, he enjoyed taking to the miners and their families. His mother teased him, dubbing him the "Mini Mayor" of Goldwater. As he grew older, he started to notice his father's faults. His mother always remained saint-like, the only redeemable trait of his father was how he acted around her.
  
  Despite being the eldest brother, Daniel had his wild and reckless era. Once he was shipped off to Yale, away from his father's prying eye, he let loose. His grades slipped, his partying ramped up, and ultimately made a fool of himself. Thankfully, money and being damn witty kept him in place. After his first two years at college were pissed away partying, his parents intervened. His options: shape up or be financially cut off. Since then, he reined in his wild side and focused on school. After graduating from Yale, he decided to stay on the East Coast for medical school. Moreover, he was encouraged by his father to pursue higher education. With the looming threat in Europe, he was wise to do so. The death of his mother in 1914 marked another change in his personality. Reality began to settle in, he needed to step up and help protect his siblings. Whether it be from the world or their father. Unlike some of his siblings, he avoided the draft and remained stateside. His father needed assistance with the labor loss as well as doctors were needed in his hometown.
  
  After finishing medical school, Daniel returned to San Francisco. With most of the men off to war, he became the most trusted physician in the Bay area. He took house calls, attending to any patients who could afford his services. At night, with many young women's husbands off at war, he kept them well-entertained. Throughout his sleep-around in San Francisco, he happened to meet Lillian Flemming. The last name rang a bell, but from where he wasn't sure. She was an actress, but he hadn't seen her pictures. Regardless, the two passionately fell in love. With the war ending, men returned home and so did a new sense of normalcy. However, Daniel longed for the freedom he had before. With Prohibition well into effect, it was time he started to make a name for himself. He wanted in: regardless of legality.

  Laurie got his shot at the big leagues when the Chronicle assigned him to be a war correspondent for the Spanish-American War. As a civilian, he had no direct impact on the war itself. His sole motive was to capture stories, fact or fiction, to deliver back in time for print. He spent the year with the Roughriders, canonicalizing their adventures and battles in Cuba. With the war over quickly, his business vacation was shorter than he expected. However, when he returned to San Francisco, he was surprised to see how many people enjoyed his articles. The editor-in-chief at the time promoted him to the head of the reporter bullpen and responsible for a column.
  
  From then, he slowly rose the ranks at the paper. He chased wild stories, solidified sources throughout the city, and untimely crafted eye-catching pieces. When the editor-in-chief retired, the publisher of the paper promoted Laurie to the spot in 1908. For 10 years, he served as the editor-in-chief. He established strong correspondence in New York, Washington D.C., and abroad for premier war coverage. He brought on a cartoonist, hoping to generate sales for those with lesser reading abilities. Ultimately, this worked. The San Francisco Chronicle saw an all-time high in sales.
  
  In 1918, the owner of the Chronicle sacked the publisher. From his hard work during the War, the owner promoted Laurie. Since then, he has managed the daily operations of the paper. With the war in the rearview mirror, the paper has evolved to cover more lucrative topics. Anything newsworthy: scandals, crime, and debauchery. You name it, he's likely ran a story on it. Alongside his team, Laurie Fields controls the narrative in San Francisco.

  Lillian knew from a young age that she wanted to be an actress. She'd seen plays and theatre performances as a child, leading her to dreaming of being a star herself. Thankfully, her family had the means to allow her an in road and in her early teens she was given roles in the theatre. Lily was a natural and quickly became a popular choice. Naturally, she progressed into movies too.
  
  It wasn't all fun and smiles, despite Lily showing exactly that on the surface. Her managers and directors in those early years hadn't treated her too kindly. It was gruelling; made to work long hours practising her lines and moves; perfecting her appearance and stage presence. Further to this, as she entered her late teens, Lily was sexually assaulted by one of her more senior co-stars. When she reported it to her manager, the man took the male actor's side and forced Lily to stay silent if she wanted to pursue her career. The older man himself then went on to make advances towards her himself, but she felt she had no choice but to keep it a secret, as she knew it could cost her career if she spoke up against him. Besides, what say did a silly young woman have in this world?
  
  As the years went on, Lily stayed focused on her work in film and theatre. Attracting the adoration of male fans, she was encouraged to stay single and maintain the clean - and attainable - image to remain popular in the field. Despite her awareness of being exploited, she decided to ride with that being the reason for being single for so long. In reality, her experiences of abuse had left her afraid of getting close to men and risking being taken advantage of again.
  
  As the years went on, Lily became an established name and had gained full confidence as an actress. No longer so easily manipulated by her superiors and elders, she started to feel in full control of her life and choices. Passing her mid-twenties also brought with it the realisation that she didn't want to end up growing old alone. She wanted to find someone to love and maybe even start a family with. It was around that time she met Daniel, a physician who hadn't seen any of her work on stage or in film. It was his minimal knowledge of her career that drew her to him, having lost interest in other actors or fans with crushes on her. Despite having spent so many years remaining patiently single, her feelings and passion for Daniel developed very quickly.
  
  Lily loves her parents and would do anything to protect her sisters, but over the years has often felt like the black sheep of the family. With her fulfilled dreams of being an actress having deviated from the family business, she felt like her parents weren't proud of her and that she didn't fit in well enough with her dear sisters. In the end, she could never turn her back on the career that made her happy. She always hoped that one day her family would be proud of her achievements, even if she didn't directly benefit the family business.
  
  Now engaged, Lily is both excited and apprehensive about her future as Mrs Hawthorne. She knows all about the Hawthorne businesses, not to mention the patriarch of the family, Walter. From her interactions with her future father-in-law, she is concerned about how she'll settle into Daniel's family. Along with that, she is certain her differing views to Walter could lead to issues with them getting along...

  Clara comes from an ordinary, middle-class family. Being an only child, her parents placed a strong emphasis on her education. She excelled at school and even considered applying for a scholarship that would cover most of her college tuition. However, she had to abandon this plan of pursuing further education when her mother was diagnosed with stomach cancer; the costly treatment meant her family couldn't afford another major expense. Following graduation, Clara applied for a copyist and assistant position at the San Francisco Chronicle.
  
  Her mother succumbed to the illness two years post-diagnosis, when Clara was 19. After her mother's death, the relationship between Clara and her father became strained. It was never perfect; they had their ups and downs, mostly influenced by his drinking habits, which Clara had resented, yet, much to her disdain, she found herself more akin to him in that regard with age. However, now there was this uncomfortable awkwardness mixed with grief hanging in the air that they failed to ever address. That was what ultimately pushed her to move to an anything but spacious apartment in a more convenient location, i.e., closer to the office.
  
  Slowly working her way up, she got her first reporting job by 1918, during the Spanish flu outbreak in San Francisco, providing her with opportunities to prove her mettle as a journalist. As much as she put substantial effort into her work, part of her success can be attributed to her eidetic memory.   She has a tendency to get bored easily, always full of boundless energery and a need to always be doing something. She almost has a need to be moving. She can be a bit scatter-brained, her thoughts jumping from moment to moment, and she has a hard time sticking with a task. But once she actually starts getting to work on something, she is usually able to pull through it. Her drawings are one of the things that keep her focus.   History: Born and raised in Connecticut, Helen had a happy, privileged and sheltered childhood. When she was twenty-one, she was in a serious relationship, and it wasn't until he proposed at her birthday party that she panicked, and realized that if she had married, she would be following the same life as her mother had. She immediately turned him down in front of everybody, locked herself in her room and began packing her things. The next morning, she left her home (tossing her suitcase out the window, and climbing out of it when she could have just walked through the door) and went to California, taking with her $100 of her father's money, and leaving only a note behind.
  
  Growing up, Helen had little need to do things on her own. She grew up in a large house filled with servants. And now that she lives alone, she has been learning, though she does live in a clean, but rather cluttered and disorganized apartment. She likes to consider herself something of a starving artist, and while her pay isn't the highest, she's most certainly comfortable, and her worry-wart mother does send her money every month.
  
  She has grand dreams of being on stage or on screen. Not because of any passion for the arts, but because of the glamour life she associates with it. Despite enjoying her job as a cartoonist well enough and being very good at it, she longs for glamour and romance, something that she doesn't think she will ever find working for a newspaper.   It was never hard to build a loving home. Life was simple growing up, really. Yeah, you don’t get along with your father because he’s old-fashioned and hot tempered, even a wrongly placed spoon seemed to aggravate him. But he’s your father and the guy your mother chose, you have no choice but to try and get along, even if you’ve always had this gut feeling that he was somehow wrong. You live that way, pressed under your father's thumb, nod your head, learn it's better to keep your mouth shut than to ever speak your mind. Count the number of slamming doors, screaming matches, drinks knocked back over dinner. Learn to fade into the background, be the easy kid your father wished for and your brother couldn't. Middle child syndrome.
  
  There's a story in everyone. Rhodes would be the first to tell you his is nothing special. The classic nuclear family, only this time with all the embellishments of Gold Rush money. There was Daniel, Dad's dazzling star, the apple of his eye, the chip off the old block. The one hoisted onto dad's shoulder in family pictures, but he was never made to feel less than. Not when mom was around. Their mother was the glue that held the walls of that house together. She was the laugh in the adjoining room, the music that vibrated the floorboards, the voice of reason in a house full of nonsense. Through good, and through bad, she was always there.
  
  Until she wasn't.
  
  Grief is a funny little thing. More so for people like Rhodes who can't seem to keep their focus away from other people. He watched for months on end; people smiling, laughing, and carrying on like the world hadn't been flipped on its axis because of the absence of the greatest woman he had ever known.
  
  He had poured so much love into her. Tried to fill the cracks. Now, it's spilling onto the floor, seeping into the floorboards, peeling back the varnish, and tainting all that's beneath it. He attempted, little by little, to hoist it all up into his hands before it mildewed. But where is he supposed to put it? The answer is quite simple.
  
  There is nowhere to put it.
  
  He had to get out of that house. It was deployment or bust. With Daniel out of the house, and his twenty first birthday months away, going to war for your country seemed to be a government priority over finishing law school. If only it were that easy, to pack your bags, run away from the only life you've ever known. It wasn't. Too depressed to fight for his country, they'd told him, as if the bright red DENIED stamp didn't tell him everything he needed to know. No more running.

  The last six years for Rhodes have been eerily similar to the first of his life, a cruel reminder; staying in his father's home, only leaving his room for work at the courthouse or dinner. He might as well be a recluse, save for the contact he's managed to maintain with his siblings.

  Arthur was born into a family of hard-working British immigrants on June 23, 1863 as the only son of seven children near the shores of Lake Tahoe. His family lived in a small mining town where his parents worked a single claim for gold, having laid down their claim in 1850. The claim provided a limited living and the family made more money selling supplies to prospective miners flowing into the territory.
  
  Young, but business savvy, the burly 17 year old began operating a mule train in the area to supply miners with whatever they might need. By eighteen, Arthur was the primary breadwinner in the family. One of his long time friends was a local First Nations youth his own age, Lonan, who helped open numerous doors and short cuts with the local tribes. It was through these same contacts that Arthur learned of significant oil reserves just south of the gold rush.
  
  Arthur and Lonan quietly worked to locate and exploit a single well site, forming the Pacific Coast Oil Company. Using the money obtained from his pack-train business, Arthur continued to invest in new well sites, paying local First Nations for information leading to rich supply.
  
  By 1900, Pacific Coast Oil Company became Standard Oil and Arthur was making more money than he had thought existed in all the world. Despite this success, Arthur and Lonan fell out in 1902 and Lonan “vanished” shortly thereafter; his disappearance has never been solved.
  
  At 1914 rolled around, the Flemmings had become a household name throughout the USA and, indeed, the world and Standard Oil was producing nearly a million barrels of oil a year. Despite the income stream he had tapped in to, Arthur has always remained a committed naturalist and when he purchased a 26,000 acre property in the Sierra Nevada be forbade any sort of hunting, logging, or motorized vehicles.
  
  When World War I broke out, and despite being born in the USA, Arthur answered the call of King and Country and returned to the United Kingdom where he joined the British Flying Core, serving over the Western Front. Arthur shot down four enemy aircraft before being injured in a duel with the Red Baron over the trench lines. He returned home with a limp and plenty of trauma.
  
  Now, in 1920, he has sought seclusion from many public events, leaving that roll to his wife and daughters, while he wrestles with his demons. His continued interest in business has not waned however and he continues to invest in new opportunities, notably alcohol and a partnership with William Boeing to form the Boeing Airplane Company with Arthur as the primary financial backer.

The property is strictly invitation only and even then, the guest list is very limited. A small train runs between notable portions of the property, the only method of travel that does not involve horses permitted on the property.
  
  The family yacht, often spotted in San Francisco Bay, is also located here, about a ten minute train ride from the main house. With it are two sailboats, one large one for entertaining, and a second that can be sailed by one person if needed. There is a full service airfield where Arthur keeps several planes that he enjoys flying throughout the state.

  Anthony "AJ" Jones: Arthurs batman during the war, AJ was born in Newfoundland and served in the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, one of only 1,300 African-Canadians to serve in a combat roll. Wounded at the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel he was recovering in hospital where he met Arthur. The two became friends and, when Arthur was released to serve out his last few months of the war, he took AJ with him as his Batman. AJ now lives in the United States with his wife and seven children. Built like a Greek god, he serves as Arthurs chauffeur/bodyguard while his wife, Elizabeth, manages the Flemming Ranch; the couple live on site. He is known for his quick wit, savage sarcasm, and glowering countenance.

She proved so succesful at her job as the executive assistant for the company that, upon his return, Arthur hired her as his personal secretary. She rarely angers, but she has a venegful streak and if she doesn't like you, the odds of seeing Arthur are slim indeed.

  Tyler Cairns: The Flemmings butler and manager of the Lake House. Looking younger than he is, Tyler has been accused of having located the fountain of youth and telling no one else. A retired cavalry trooper, he approached Arthur for a job when he was discharged from the army and quickly proved himself an apt property manager. His love of horses continues as he also manages a twenty horse stable at the lake. He takes his role very seriously and tolerates no nonsense.

  Travis Juska: Snaggle toothed, just as tall and broad in the shoulders as Arthur, this former infantry veteran manages the families San Francisco house, while also serving as butler and driver when needed.   Lorilei was born to June and Randall Cooper, and she's the only child between the duo. She wasn't birthed into a life of wealth but one of poverty, which she didn't herself live a life of whenever she got older. Growing up wasn't easy because she had to get a job at such a young age, no questions asked. Lorilei always envisioned herself being something more than what she was when she was younger. She wanted to be married but didn't want someone that her parents chose for her, or approved of. Lorilei wanted to go against the grain and that's exactly what she did for herself.
  
  That was when she met Arthur, who was really the answer to her prayers.
  
  After they married, her life was one that she imagined for herself. When Arthur struck it big, she found herself being surprised, shocked even but knew that this was the corrected course of action for her life. She birthed four beautiful daughters, all were the apple of her eye and the sparkle of Arthur's. Lorilei did work as a seamstress but was laid off, so she became a homemaker and a housewife in order to take care of her family however, a war broke out and sent Arthur away for the time being.
  
  Lorilei prayed for his safe return home because she didn't think that she was equipped to take care of her daughters alone. Although she sort of, kind of had to while the war was being fought. She didn't mind it one bit as long as her daughters were happy along with herself.
  
  Today, in the year 1920, she's more in the public eye for her husband since he's dealing with other personal issues. Lorilei makes sure that she takes care of him first and lets him in on any and everything that's happening. Their daughters are all grown up now and making their own waves, which she adores and that alone lets her know that she did a fine job raising them.

That meant their father focused his attention on priming Oliver to train in the family business so it could continue if he died. Oliver had doubts about whether it was the right career for him, but with Joseph already disappointing their father, he didn't have the heart to let their parents down too.
  
  As the years went on, Oliver began to resent the feeling that he was trapped in the family business, like it was on his shoulders to continue his parents' legacy even though selling property didn't feel like his true calling. He'd been building up the courage to tell his father the truth, but was drafted to fight in the First World War before he could do it.
  
  The war did change Oliver. He never imagined cutting another life short, but somehow, he was made to feel like killing the enemy was the right thing to do. There were no repercussions and no punishment for taking another life. That was difficult to comprehend at first. What was more difficult was having to witness his closest friend and comrade die at the hands of the enemy. Men would do anything to survive.
  
  Somehow, Oliver returned home from the war seemingly unchanged. His charm, humour, and warmth returned along with the sunny skies of San Francisco. That surprising lack of change also meant he was thrown straight back into the family business. The war had left him numb on that front. Grateful for being home, alive and in one piece, he didn't fight it. Instead, he allowed himself to settle back into the business.
  
  Despite his doubts about the career path that's been handed to him, Oliver enjoys the feeling of success he gets when he makes a sale. He loves to win.   There was both solace and suffocation in being the only daughter of Walter Hawthorne, his expectations for her were rather lacking in comparison to the grand futures he seemed to impress upon her brothers leaving her more freedom in her youth but as she grew into a young woman his hold over his daughter became tight. Walter Hawthorne was a traditional man with traditional expectations in a world that was changing and encouraging people to no longer meet such expectations or listen to those old fashioned ideas, whispers of sufferage and socialism, though those would not reach Evelyn until her adulthood. And it seemed he was determined his children should not change with it.
  
  She’d beg to tag along on the trips to the mining towns, sometimes she’d be allowed and they’d doff their caps to her and call her little lady - she’d always loved those trips even as the air stank of smoke and she'd return home to her mother fussing over the way it would be left clinging to her clothes. But the change in environment was more than worth the spoiled dresses - different sorts of people lived there in those towns and what was different was interesting. She was no Mini Mayor, it was harder for a young girl to idly chat with the masses they employed but she enjoyed watching them all the same. She'd do her best to be sweet and charming and everything she should be on the occasion she got to speak with them.
  
  If her Father was a hand looming above her, guiding her, her Mother was something between saint and spectre in her mind. She loved Eve and Eve knows growing up she never had cause to doubt that but Eve craved affection and admiration from her father because it had never been a question of if she would get such a thing from her mother. Eve spent more time chasing after and trying to please her father than basking in the warm glow of her mother, hindsight was a cruel thing and Evelyn would grow to quietly mourn the years spent running away from the parent trying to hold her close. It's something that would have left her crippled with grief at seventeen had she not locked it away inside of her, had not resolved to simply never dwell and never speak of the gaping wound the household felt. The grief was suffocating but Eve had long since grown used to holding her breath around her family and swallowing things down. Urges that should never be voiced, opinions that would not be welcome, refusals to do what she was told and desires to be treated with the respect and the heavy expectations her brothers seemed to war with. They had a freedom she craved, free to express their grief and to go away across the country to college and choose whatever career they wanted. Evelyn had none of that and so she resolved herself to biting down the desire for those things.
  
  College was not an option for Eve and so she took a secretarial course once she graduated high school in a bid to get ahead of any whispers of marrying her off. Dutifully working for the family business once she’d graduated as there was always a need for secretaries and she worked as her Father's personal assistant.
  
  The War helped her in those matters too. In 1917 the war took away their boys and young men to bleed and fight and die on foreign soil, Eve had nearly wept for joy when Daniel and Rhodes avoided that fate even as a small part of her wondered at what Walter would have done should he have lost one of his precious heirs. But the men being whisked away meant doors had to open to keep the business afloat, Eve was able to work in more departments and take on more responsibility. She’d loved it, actually being able to do more than idle busywork or fetching coffee and she found she had something of a knack for it.
  
  She lived at home whilst Rhodes was at college, it wouldn’t have done to have left her Father alone and let him drink himself to death without something to keep him busy though she moved in with two friends from secretarial school shortly after his return. It was a perfectly respectable arrangement for a young woman in her twenties and Eve had jumped at the chance, the arrangement allowed her to see more of the world, the jazz clubs and speakeasy's and the interesting folk it wouldn't do to be around long term but were interesting enough at night or in a crowded room. She had been fearful that living at home would prompt her father to question when she'd be getting married and being out from under his eye - even as she seems determined to remain under the shade of his thumb - It's a topic she valiantly tries to ensure remains unbroached, she dreads the day her Father brings it on himself to make a match for her as she cannot imagine herself saying no to him.
  
  When the war ended and the men came home Eve was thrust back into her role as her Father’s personal assistant, organising meetings and fetching files and doing whatever it was he wished for her to do. She finds herself longing for a way to prove she’s capable of more than that, for making an impact on the world of her own.

  Emma was born to James and Dorothy Carmine on the 9th June 1891. The youngest child and second daughter of a family of 5. Growing up in the Carmine household was theatrical to say the least. Her father was a renowned Theatre Director and her Mother a dancer. The Carmine children were always brought up to be themselves, a happy home where creativity was always encouraged and celebrated.
  
  Emma had always known she wanted to be a star, growing up in that world as she tagged along with her father to all aspects of the shows, auditions, rehearsals and the performances. She made her first appearance on stage in a small role at the young age of 10. The thrill of the stage, the lights and quietness in the audience followed by the applause at completion cemented her career for her and from that day, Emma practiced her skill and applied for everything that she could. Having a father in the industry seemed to help her and kickstarted her career so by the time she was ready to branch out on her own, the name Emma Carmine was already known within the world of theatre.
  
  Whilst the world of theatre was easy, the world of Movies and media was an entirely different game that Emma, at the time, was not prepared for. No longer secure under her name and the respect given towards her father she found her experience in this world to be more daunting. More was demanded of her in terms of her ability and most importantly and disgustingly the idea of "favors" and "owing for her career". A mans world through and through, Emma was given the harsh reality of this when she landed her first movie role as a secondary character. When the movie came out, it landed well with audiences and critics and Emma found herself to be shot into the spotlight, what she hadn't expected was the over sexualization by the media and fans alike. Her acting ability never mentioned, rather instead the main focus of any conversation surrounding her seemed to be her appearance and her clothes.
  
  It wasn't long later than the same Casting Director that gave her her big break offered her a lead role in a new movie. Initially she was delighted, that was until the Casting Director let himself into her trailer to try and get what she owed him for making her a star. Distraught at what occured, Emma left her trailer disgusted and in a distressed state and ran straight into one of the producers, what she hadn't expected was for the producer to take the Casting Directors side and attempt to do the exact same thing. Knowing that they had the ability to tarnish her name and ruin her career, Emma kept quiet about her experiences and finished the movie. She remained quiet until the movie was out, after her brother's found out, well lets just say the casting director didn't remain in the industry long. He quietly disappeared from the spotlight to live a more reserved and hidden life.
  
  As her name continued to grow and she began to realize through conversations with friends and other actresses that this seemed to be a toxic trait within the industry she began to fight back against it. She refused to allow herself to be put into such a position again and thankfully as her name got bigger and she became more well known, she was able to stick up for herself more with less repercussions or care.
  
  Emma now looks out for younger actresses in the industry and refuses to let the same things happen to any new talent in her movies. She refuses to let them be alone with any men in the industry unless proven to be safe.

  Amelia was born in 1899, the last nail in the coffin for her father's chance at a son. Growing up without having to worry about much, her family's wealth was cemented by the time she was a child. However, being the youngest meant she had little say in how things worked. She was dragged around wherever the family needed her or went, without much consideration for what she wanted. But what did she want? There wasn't much she couldn't have, a simple request and someone would get her whatever she wanted. Did everyone live like this?
  
  Once she hit her teenage years, she started to pay attention to the world outside her family's bubble. With her father off to war, Amelia began to follow the papers about the women's suffrage movement. While she knew no one in her family disagreed with her actions, no one actively stood up to fight alongside her. She was able to attend a few local protests, the thrill of the crowds and the movement truly ignited a passion she hadn't expected to find. Alongside the men and women who picketed, she started to meet members of the IWW. She learned about the experiences of others, those less fortunate and much more hard-working than herself. Amidst the fire and passion of revolution, she found her calling: being a voice for those who didn't have one.
  
  By the time the 19th Amendment was passed in 1919, Amelia's main advocacy goal was achieved. Now she had to live in the aftermath of war she wanted no part of. Despite her father's valiant service, the idea of a foreign man's war was despicable. The Russians seemed to have the right idea, in her eyes, pulling out to develop domestically. Moreover, the government's crackdowns on IWW protests in the city have left her in a sore spot career-wise. She had to be more secretive about her job and intentions, disguising meetings alongside her comrades. Currently, she's an open advocate against Prohibition, helping lobby and advocate for a constitutional repeal of the 18th Amendment.   Aurelia was born two minutes before Lucille on September 9th, 1895 and shared none of the health complications that plagued her twin in their youth. Missing the physical bond she shared with her sister, Aurelia would often sneak into her sister’s room once she was old enough to do so… much to the dismay of their parents and Lucille’s doctors. When looking back on these early memories, Aurelia likes to believe that these moments helped provide her sister the strength she needed to push through those grueling times. During these visits she would always recount her day to Lucy and would often try to bring in items from the outdoors for her sister to experience despite her confinement.     Like most of his family, Anton was always a free spirit. Running wild through the streets of Munich, Anton has always been unashamedly himself. When founding Wolff Pictures, Anton was of course interested in the possible money it could make, but he was more interested in the artistic impact it would have on American culture.
    
    Anton also battles intense anxiety, being something of a perfectionist. While he isn’t a super detailed planner of any of his projects, Anton is highly critical and will refuse to share it until it’s good enough for him. This feeling of not being good enough has dogged Anton throughout his life, a specter lurking near the creative part of his mind.   Born in Munich during the latter half of the nineteenth century, Anton would be born into the Wolff family, known artists and eccentrics. Anton’s father Otto was the son of a local Baron and as such was quite wealthy. This allowed him to live his life free from financial worries, instead focusing on his hobbies and travel. Eventually he would marry a fellow artist named Erna and would quickly have Anton. In the span of five years they would have two more children.
  
  For most of his formative years, Anton would be home schooled by a mix of his parents and hired tutors. While Anton was schooled in classic art and literature, he would have a fascination with new technology. This inclination would result in Anton’s father buying him a camera and a typewriter. Anton would then immediately begin diving into writing short stories and documenting his life through pictures.
  
  This would remain a hobby until 1895 when the Wolff family took a trip to Paris. There they would get to be a part of the crowd that saw the Lumière brothers show off the very first films. Instantly Anton decided that was what he wanted to with his life. Upon returning to Germany, Anton would focus all of his efforts on starting a film studio in his homeland.
  
  As Anton reached adulthood, film became more widespread around the world, with people like Thomas Edison creating a studio in America. In his endeavors to be involved with film, Anton would meet Max Reinhardt, an early German film director. Anton would study under him for some time, before being introduced to Paul Wegener. Paul would offer Anton a position on the crew of a film he was planning, called the Golem.
  
  However, before production could start, World War 1 started. Anton’s brother Klaus went off to fight, but Anton was exempt as he was a part of the film industry. And so Anton would get to work on the Golem, his first time as a cameraman. This horror film, while being one of the earliest examples of German Expressionism, was also a success. However, Anton couldn’t celebrate very long as he soon received word that his brother had been killed in battle.
  
  Distraught, Anton would decide to throw himself into his work. He would work on many films throughout the war, eventually working his way up to director. Towards the end of the war, an accidental shelling would hit Munich, killing several civilians including Anton’s mother. This event was brushed aside as the Treaty of Versailles was signed. With the loss of his son and wife, Anton’s father would fall into depression, his daughter Maria having to take care of him.
  
  Anton couldn’t stand this situation very long, and would soon decide to leave Germany. Helping himself to what was left of the family fortune, Anton would emigrate to America, ending up in San Fransisco. Buying a home in the prosperous city, Anton would then spend the next year setting up Wolff Pictures, a film studio based in San Fransisco. While an infant compared to some of the other studios, Wolff Pictures has made several small films that were modest successes.
  
  Now Anton focuses on building up his team of writers, actors, and other film types that he needs. As such he is really open to bringing on the inexperienced. In his mind Anton has great things in mind for Wolff Pictures, and believes that he can make San Fransisco the capital of the worldwide film industry.

  Lucille Flemming was born along with her fratenal twin sister Aurelia on the 9th September 1895, as a usual occurance for twins the girls were born a little earlier than expected but it wasn't until they came into the world that the condition of Lucille was discovered. A much smaller child than her sister it was discovered she had suffered from selective' growth restriction, in which the placenta had not been evenly apportioned between the pair, causing Lucille to get less nutrients and oxygen than her sister.
  
  From the day she was born, Lucille was a fighter having to fight hard to survive in the world. She was immediately placed into PICU and was not expected to last the week but against all odds, she fought to survive and defeated every obstacle that was placed in her way. Her first two years were filled with hospital visits and overnight stays as her condition remained at a "touch and go" status, complications from her time in the womb seemed to present constantly in those years as her body tried to grow and survive. As a child the girl had to be careful with every cold and flu ending her in hospital, affecting her worse than it should, a sickly child she seemed to be kept under lock and key which frustrated her to no end as she watched her older sister and twin seeming to have more adventures and freedom than herself. Thankfully her body continued to grow stronger and eventually she gained the health status of any other person her age, the fear of her condition now a forgotten memory stored away, however the obvious difference in height between herself and her twin remained a constant reminder of that time.
  
  Whilst they may not look like twins, the personality and closeness of the girls tend to prove it. Inseparable since birth, the pair are normally always seen together and have been this way since kids. Extremely close it is as though at times they share the same mind able to have an entire conversation through looks alone. Some say they are telepathic and maybe they are, but that's their secret (and superpower ).
  
  Lucille, like her sister, has always know she wanted to follow in her father's steps and take over the family business when it was time. With a family of girls and the eldest always wanting to be a star, Lucille felt in a way it was her duty to step up so that all her father's hard work did not fall away after his time. Like her youngest sister, Lucille believes in the woman's movement and the fight for equality but instead off following Amelia to protests and rallys, she instead focused her attention on economics and taking her rightful place in the company, taking her place inside a "mans" world and showing that women can do it just as well as men, if not better.

  Jacob had a humble start to life. His father ran his own bakery and brought in enough money to support his wife and two children. With only a couple of years between them, Jacob and his older sister, Nancy, were inseparable. They shared the same group of friends and rarely fought. Those first eleven years of Jacob's life were perfect, as far as he was concerned.
  
  Jacob excelled in all subjects at school, but despite being highly intelligent and loving to read, he most enjoyed sports. The boy switched between wanting to be a sportsman to dreaming of being a cop, but neither were encouraged by his parents. Instead, his parents pushed him in his more intellectual pursuits, making sure he studied as much as possible.
  
  What lead to an unintentional compromise between his and his parents' aspirations, was the spring of 1898, when his 13-year-old sister and her best friend were both found dead in Golden Gate Park. The two had been murdered and it was a fact that was never shielded from Jacob. He was a perceptive child and had been fully aware of what had happened to them from the whispering and gossiping of those around him.
  
  As the years went on, Nancy's murder remained unsolved and apparently forgotten about by all but those directly related to her and her best friend. It was what pushed Jacob further towards wanting to work in law enforcement, but by then it was being a detective that he aspired towards. He didn't want other families to suffer the way his had - never knowing what had happened to their loved ones and if it could have been prevented.
  
  After finishing school with top grades, Jacob went on to study at university and achieve a degree in forensic science. Following his graduation, he started out at the bottom. A new recruit within the San Francisco Police Department. His hard work and commitment continually paid off to allow him to climb to ranks. Eventually, he made it as a detective and flourished doing what he'd dreamed of since being a kid.
  
  Despite his commitment to his role as a detective, Jacob didn't hesitate to volunteer to fight when the United States join the war. Despite the heavy toll it took on him, he didn't regret his decision one bit and returned home with an extra fight in him. Since then, Jacob has committed himself to once again protecting the San Francisco public. Fully aware of the corruption and illegal activities in the city, he knows he has his work cut out.   Thomas was born in San Francisco not to far from the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard, where he is currently working. The only son of a local SFPD officer, he was fortunate in his life circumstances and lived a modest but comfortable life. It is likely he would have followed his father into the police force but a fateful visit to a US Warship in port changed everything.
  
  At seventeen he passed the entrance exams to the United States Naval Academy and embarked on his training regime in a Navy slowly modernizing as the USA transitioned from a regional power to a true player on the global stage. He would graduate the head of his class in 1910 and was assigned to a destroyer in Caribbean assisting the Marine Core with the myriad of operations undertaken during the Banana Wars and the Mexican Revolution.
  
  It was beginning to look as though his career would be spent in the warm tropical waters until, in August 1917, the United States declared war on Germany and entered the Great War. He was posted to the USS Druid and transferred to the Mediterranean where he served as the ships executive officer. Assisting with two submarine sinkings, and the rescue of the HMS Brittania's crew, he was promoted to ships Commander shortly after the end of the war.
  
  As peacetime rolled in, the US Navy began the process of disarmament and while some ships captains were paid off, Thomas was sent home to work with the civilian owners of Hunters Point Naval Shipyard at making the facility a permanent Naval base.

Gone is the long, luxurious hair that had once defined her; in its place is a short, practical cut, a declaration of independence from the societal norms that had once confined her.
  
  But Nora's return to university is less a triumphant homecoming than a bitter pill to swallow. Her father, a man whose patience has worn thin, makes it clear that her wartime escapades have pushed the boundaries of his tolerance. "You've gone too far, Nora," he warns, his voice a mix of exasperation and disapproval. "It's time to put aside these foolish notions and focus on your future."
  
  Nora, however, finds it difficult to slip back into the mold of the dutiful daughter. The once-hallowed halls of academia now feel stifling, the lectures and assignments a pale imitation of the life-and-death stakes she faced on the battlefields of France. She goes through the motions, but her heart is no longer in it. The stories she witnessed, the people she encountered, the ugly truths of humanity she's learned - they haunt her, whispering in her ear, urging her to give them voice.
  
  And so, even as she pours her memories and hopes onto the pages, Nora knows that her words alone are not enough.
