Dear RpN Members,

We have noticed many rumors and false claims surrounding our future plans for the site.

As many of you are aware, @GgAcE recently stepped down as the site’s owner out of his own will and is working on a separate project http://superheroes.zone/ and selected his replacements to own/run the site. Which you can read all about here: http://www.rpnation.com/threads/ggace-stepping-down.33988/

Anyway in regards to these changes, many rumors have been floating around as to what’s going to happen with the staff’s other site, roleplay.zone. All the following is stuff that was discussed with @GgAcE beforehand, as this was the functionality he wanted RpN to have long before he decided to step down.

Basically- as some of you have seen on RPZone, the system gives people more freedom over their RP as it gives them actual forums and subforums. This means you can have an infinite amount of IC threads, each character can have its own individual thread, and basically what ever RP Authors want.

Here are some examples of said system on our other site. http://www.roleplay.zone/forums/souls-of-paranoia.7032/

http://www.roleplay.zone/forums/emperors-of-the-fading-suns.6926/

http://www.roleplay.zone/forums/evolution.7034/ (Originally from RpNation and couldn’t exist within the limitations)

Rumor has it that this system, is going to completely replace the system on RpN and this is incorrect. The tool that we will be implementing on RpN will coexist with the current Roleplaying System. The reason for this is; as amazing as the ability to make forums/subforums/prefixes and making co rp authors and the such- some RPs don’t need so many tools. This will be for the users who feel that their RP is too big for the current system of only having a few threads.

This means that all threads that are pre-existing on RpNation will not be forced into the new system. It is the RP authors choice, as both systems will coexist

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reply below.

How exactly will the full merge work? Will it all be one site, or are we just sharing the same database (I'm not sure what the actual term is since I'm not a technician)?

So, basically we will be able to pick between which system we want to use?

Picking between the ability to use sub-threads and such or not to?

Become 1 site.

In simple terms, yes.

Nothing about the way roleplaying is done on this site will be removed. There will only be additional roleplaying options.

All right, so my next question is then, what is the site's full name going to be? Roleplay Nation Zone? xD

All of our members and their RPs are coming over, it won't look any different then the current RpN. We have a tool to import them over.

Correct, you'll be able to continue to use the existing system where you have less threads but makes sense for smaller RPs, or making a RP on the system where you can get an entire forum/subforums.

At any time, ever. Our tool just makes it easier for larger RPs to exist, which is the one draw back of the current system. Many times, the author has to be creative and try to make it so their RP doesn't outgrow that system.

We don't have any plans nor will we ever get rid of the ability not to have to use our forums tool, because we know that all RPs are not big enough to need to use that system.

No, current site name is staying. We will just be rpnation.com

Okay, so it's still maintaining the address, but there will still be one site? Is the site still accessible through the roleplayzone.com address? Sorry for all of the stupid questions, I'm just trying to understand all of this. xP

And may I ask why you guys decided to merge together? :)

Oh, well sweet! Any idea when the tools will be put into place or is it just a wait-and-see type thing right now?
Well the tool will come over when our other site is merged into rpnation.com, however that still requires a lot of work to happen, and won't happen for a while.

http://roleplay.zone will simply redirect our community to rpnation.com when you type it into your browser.

Thanks for the explanation and that should stop those rumors in their tracks for now.

The new system looks quite good, I look forward to using it. The old system also has it's benefits tho. Maybe some day we can even fuse the best of both into ultimate system of power!

So the merge won't be for awhile?

Which means my big RP idea should wait until that system is started up... OKAY! I will patiently await for the big change! ^.^

While not official, we are aiming for at least within the next month in a half before everyone returns to school.

I know thios is quite late but....

Rolezonenationplay! :D

Hey guys. Since TDW referenced our RP I wanted to just weigh in on the new updates and the merge. When the group system here broke I took our RP, Evolution over to RPZ because there was simply NO WAY to run such a large scale RP within the confines of our system without the use of a group. TDW assured me that when we merge, all the RPZ stuff would be coming over anyways, so our members signed up with their same usernames at RPZ. When the merge does happen our accounts merge too, and voila. Perfection. So we have established a little home on RPZ and I think it's going pretty well.

  • I have found their site to have friendly, welcoming people.
  • I love that I can essentially run my own mini-forum within the site with it's own sub-forums for anything we need. For me, it's great because I love to world build and it really lends itself to that.
  • At the same time I'm glad they have decided to keep the current system with some tweaking for RPs that are maybe only one thread or so. That way people who don't want a long term, in depth project can still find something worthwhile.
  • They also have some kick ass BBCode, and I'm obsessed with it... they may have already added it here?
  • Their member base is big into dice roleplaying so I expect we're going to get a cool mix of different RP genres around here after the merge. It'll be neat to gain different perspectives.
  • For those of you who use groups, one way the groups and the advanced system differ is there are no unique name and icon available in the advanced system... but this hasn't been too inconvenient.

So yea, that's what my experience has been so far. I think you all are really going to love the new system and the way it opens up a lot of options for world building, character creation, and more on the site.

I am on RP Zone right now, and I am just a little confused on how the whole character gallery here will be able to function. Is the current character gallery system going to stay, or will that turn into the resources? If it does change like that, how is that exactly going to work? I did notice the link you placed in the OP, but I am still slightly confused.

RpZone never had a need for a character gallery, that doesnt mean that RpN won't continue to use the one it has.

Thats how all the bad rumors started, people went to RPzone and saw we didn't have X and claimed we would remove it over here.

Oh, all right, I see. I never ran into those rumors, so maybe that's part of my confusion. xD So the gallery will remain, excellent. Thank you, Wizard.
All right, so now I am noticing the roleplay thread difference between the two sites. Why change the prefixes to the sub forums? Does it have to do with the server size?

I don't understand your question about prefixes and sub forums.
