THE BEGINNING
The crisp autumn air fills the lungs of students as they eagerly huddle together, chatting excitedly about what they will buy and where they will go. The leaves on the trees are brilliantly colored, contrasting greatly with a thin layer of powder that covers the walkways and buildings. The first snow of the year, the first Hogsmead weekend, everything is quite literally perfect. The nostalgic notes of butterbeer waft throughout the small village, enticing students to buy some and indulge in the roaring fire that filled the common area of the Three Broomsticks. Small fireworks and fizzling magic dance around the brightly colored Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes, a new and extremely popular shop.

Bubbles in the shapes of hearts, fuzzy little creatures, flying toys, everything is quite fantastical, even for a shop in the magical world. Students have free reign over Hogsmeade, the attending Professors only really paying attention to the younger students, making sure that they don’t wander or get into trouble. Seventh years are allowed to explore, most already knowing where to go and what to do. Students can be seen subtly holding hands, far too shy to kiss in public, but still are drawn towards the things marked towards couples or romance. Conversations about homework and the first Quidditch match are had, and the comfort and familiarity of the trip settle in once again.

Any anxieties that had formed in the hearts of the students have since been calmed, the memories of the trip to Hogwarts are now just that, a memory. Whispers of a war, of Death Eaters, of evil, it isn’t happening, not now. In fact, everyone seems to be in good spirits, even the more miserable or aloof students. But good things never last. In the shadows of Hogsmeade, it seems that monsters are waiting and watching, looking for a moment to strike. Nobody notices them, it’s as if they aren’t really there, just a figment of the imagination. Dark clouds are brewing, prepared to cast a shadow forever over these children and the remaining innocence that they are clinging to.
