Don't Tread On Me

What's goin' on recently...

Journal Entry No. 1; 11/23/20XX

It's a beautiful day outside, isn't it?

Well y'know what pal? It's about to turn into a nightmare.

The gods are the great beings, and well, our family pretty much. Lets just say... Some of them haven't had the best treatment, and they've had different ways to dealing with it. But for the longest time, they've kept their mouths shut about it, those of them who have been pretty angry about it. So have their children, not a good thing to have a whole chunk of your family feeling spite to the rest of them, ain't it? Even worse that those tensions may be inching us to another war, y'know? Kronos was beaten a long time ago by some kid... Perry? Parcy? I don't remember his name. Well if our intel is correct, he's reforming. Somehow the dust of em is coming back together, and it may be from the god's unrest. We're all mighty scared down in Camp Half Blood, and the flow of us getting new campers is starting to slow to a trickle, and more of us are biting the dust. Hades' been having his phones ringing for a month straight, y'know what I mean? Well, I don't mean actual phones-- moving on.

We have yet to have a prophecy, and we have yet to have any heroes. We might not even get any heroes this time. Maybe we're screwed.

Hopefully not,

Miriam Qualsy; Camp Counselor

Miriam Qualsy

Child of Hades

- Rising out of bed and checking on everyone -

Miriam was in a deep slumber as the sun rose on the milky dawn. She was cuddled up quite nicely in the coffin-like bed, but she wasn't having any good dreams. She had been working tirelessly for an answer, both day and night, wake and, while dreamwalking, asleep. No luck, nothing on Kronos besides the fact that he's stirring. Nothing on the gods, absolutely no information. She was going mad from how feverently she had looked. No, mad wasn't a good word, she had to keep a cool head or whatever this impending disaster brings will sweep right over her head and someone will die because of it. It'll be all her fault if someone dies... All her fault...

She gasped and sat up, her heart racing for a few fleeting seconds, before she settled down. Everything was alright, eveything was going to be alright. She had to stay calm, everyone will live this. She pulled herself out of bed, composing herself, and checking all of her sleeping siblings. She let a breath out, all still alive. It was early still so she didn't bother to disturb them. She came out, seeing some lingering campers who too woke up early for training.

"Ey! Mary Quasie!"

The woman flinched as she heard the familiar voice of the god. Dionysus... Why was he up so early?

"What are you doing up so early? Gods, you look like you got hit by a truck."

"I'll take that as a compliment. I've been trying to get more information on this since last week but I haven't been able to get anything..."

"Damn... It seems to mean a lot to ya with how hard you've been working."

She glared at the chubby man, "Means a lot is an understatement."

"I don't see why you even slave over these kids."

"Of course you wouldn't, now I need to get back to what I was doing."

Miriam pushed past him, Mr. D watching her as she left his presence.

"You're gonna go nuts before this thing even happens yan'now! I ain't curing you from another mad spell again!"

She knew he was lying, though she was going to do everything to find out what's going on.

Gwen Irons,

Hemphestus kid

Awake for somethin like... 50 hours now? Bleh. Work to do.

---

Gwen stared at the sword. It was good. Really good. Maybe one of her finest works. But, it just seemed wrong. The blade was perfectly edged without the slightest misstep. The grip was on right. Gwen couldn't place the falw for a while, even after staring at it with foggy eyes. "The taper maybe?" She muttered under her breath as she gave the sword a few test swings,"Balance is good, workings are smooth.." She continued to mutter under her breath as she ran through every aspect of her design. Five minutes later she concluded that it was not in fact that she had spilled cyclops blood on it when she heard the beeping. "...The heck is that noise? Did I set something on fire and not notice again? That would be bad..." Blearily she stumbled over to her other worktable, covered with a messy array of gears screws, scrap metal and tools and began to sift through the pile looking for the ringing's source. After dismissing several pieces she found, she removed a ringing...thing. Squinting at it she tried for the life of her to figure out what it was. "Appears to be some sort of rudimentry time keeping device... she muttered some clock with a loud Hour bell? But it doesn't read that its an hour though, and it just keeps going like some kind of alarm. Clock. Oh. This is my alarm clock! Why is it going off its like midnight at the.. oh. Seven in the morning? That explains it. Now how do I..."

A moment later the alarm clock shattered into exactly 57 separate pieces as it hit the wall. "That seemed to do it." Gwen concluded, "Fix it later I guess. Right now...tea. I need some strong tea." Brushing herself off before hanging up the thick forge apron she wore, Gwen then stuck her feet into her combat boots and pushed up her safety goggles to hold her unkempt and

motor oil stained hair in place. Finally she tied her checkered bandanna around her neck and kicked open the Hephaestus cabin door.

Walking blearily across the strawberry fields her sleepy eyes caught sight of Miriam, one of the other counselors, from hades if her sleep addled mind could be trusted at this point.
"What is she doing up at this hour?" Gwen half yawned, half mumbled, then out loud, "Hey Miriam, what are you up at this hour for?" But despite her sleepiness, her brain kicked in. Miriam looked awful, and that was never a good sign. Something was up. And there was no way Gwen wasn't going to find out what.

- Chatting with Gwen -

Miriam yawned loudly with her sleep deprived state. Her eyelids slowly slumped down, just for her to be alerted by the call of Gwen. She knew Gwen, and was on good terms with the inventor. She couldn't exactly classify them as friends or besties, though. She faced the bright haired girl, seeing her usual goggles. Why did she wear them like that? Her mind drifted away from her current being, wondering half a billion questions that either made no sense or wouldn't even matter. She snapped back after staring at the girl blankly for five whole minutes. She gave herself a slap on the face, shaking her head gently to wake up, and smoothening back her short messy hair.

"Just checking on everyone, as usual." She sighed, "Gods I feel like shit." She stretched her arm, hearing a crack.

"Don't concern yourself with it."

Melody Allyn Harper

Daughter of Apollo

- Waking and Eavesdropping -

Melody awoke lazily from a dreamless sleep. It was odd, to say the least. Generally she had some dream about some thing happening elsewhere in the world. Not that she could generally make sense of it. Her siblings were much better at it than she was. Of course, she wouldn't complain. For once she had been able to feel rested. Many of her siblings were already awake and about camp- there was something about the sun god's children and the sunrise. Only a few beds had sleeping figures in them, and those that were empty were neatly made. The level of tidiness was almost unnerving. Of course, today was cabin inspection day. She had nearly forgotten. She forced herself to get out of her bed and face the day. She tucked her sheets in neatly before finally exiting the cabin.

Melody stood in front of the cabin, raising her hands high above her head, relishing the pleasant stretch along her ribs. The sun was shining bright, warming her cheeks and highlighting the golden and bronze tones in her hair. What a nice day out... She thought to herself. She thought about taking a swim, or maybe spending the day practicing her archery skills. Maybe she could get one of her siblings to throw moving targets...

Familiar voices caught her ear and she turned towards the source. Miriam and Gwen were passing by, and Melody scrunched her nose. She didn't dislike Miriam, exactly, but she was a figure of authority, thus Melody had a problem strictly on principle. Gwen was kind of cool though. She's the one who suggested she just coat the tip of her arrows in celestial bronze, instead of crafting the entire arrow out of it. It kept it substantially lighter, and they flew much farther and with greater accuracy. She offered them a wave as they passed, standing to greet them.

"Good morning Gwen." She signed slowly and mouthed the words, conscious of how not everyone was proficient in ASL. "You look stressed, Miriam." She signed a bit faster. Not caring quite as much whether or not she understood.

A doctor's work, it would seem, was never done. Even without patients directly in sickbeds at the present moment (a blessing, truly - it was every physicians' hope that they might one day be unemployed for lack of work and Vasyl was no different in his wish to see his patients ever-healthy and lacking need for his services) the feeling of sleep deprivation lingered about his mind, and the demigod turned med student grimaced at the thought. Really, what was it about his fellow campers that pushed them to take such little care of themselves?

Not... not that he had much room to speak on the lack of sleep aspect of it all. Carrying through med school meant that Vasyl himself had been up late into the night pouring over textbooks that sent his head reeling even with glasses to counteract the dyslexia that accompanied his half blooded nature. Still, he had at least managed some small degree of sleep, unlike
someone... And it was that self-same pull and mother-hen dedication that pulled him from his bed in the early morning and out onto the main to track down whoever it was that wasn't taking care of themselves properly. After all, sleep deprived campers only opened up a larger margin for error in training or battle, and those were scrapes and cuts he would have to patch up. As he scanned the area his eyes fell on, of course, their fearless leader herself.

Miriam, of course, he grumbled internally, focusing his attention on the girl and her collection of others he raised his brow. And Gwen. Goodness doesn't anyone sleep properly around here?

A slight scowl overtook his features as he crossed the rest of the green, arms set akimbo over his hips as he pulled to a stop, narrowing his eyes in an attempt to puzzle out Melody's comments.

    "
She doesn't look stressed as much as she looks exhausted," he scolded, his tone sharp and disapproving as he looked over at Miriam. She may run the camp by halves with Dionysus, but Vasyl had grown up from his first toddling steps among the cabins and, same age as the daughter of death or no, he had no qualms babying her just as much as he did the other campers. "I'm fairly certain the stress is as much side effect as anything else," he paused, tone taking a kinder bend after a moment, softer and with more worry than reprimand, "No matter what we end up facing, if you exhaust yourself worrying about it day in and day out you won't be any good to us when the real trouble arises. You can't wear yourself thin on worry - for the good of the camp, if not for your own sake. Though for my sake and teh sake of the medical supplies I'm going to ask that you at least try to get yourself some rest. And you-" he turned to level a stern glare at Gwen, back to full scolding doctor mode again, "-you don't even have an excuse for staying up to the point of dizzying your body. Are you two trying to make more work for me?"

A bit hypocritical, considering his own sleep schedule, but still. Someone had to play mother while their fearless leader wore herself down pointlessly.

Gwen: Camp green

Status: Its too early in the morning for this crap. I need some bloody tea.

***

Gwen shrugged while muttering "Oh right, don't concern yourself with it, like that's going to convince me to not bother about it. Camp's head counselor and you tell me not to worry about it. Bloody Hades girl, you would make me laugh if I could manage it at this hour. I mean come on..."She continued as she saw melody approaching them , and unconsciously tried to get some oil out of her hair, tucking a few strands behind her ears and trying to act casual smoothing out her clothes, "Hey Melody!" She said happily, then read her signs instantly (She had learned the day after she me the girl) "That's what I've been saying and.." Then she was interrupted again, this time by the doctor, "Well last night I was working on a sword for a camper but it didn't seem quite right so I kept working on it and well I guess I didn't...sleep? Thee was work to do! And Bronze work to do? Do you know how long that takes? I needed to get it done! Besides I needed the time to y'know, re-balance it and recheck the composition twenty times and..." She paused for a half second to take a breath.

-Leaving to do a perimeter check-

Miriam gritted her teeth when Vasyl began lecturing her about how tired she looked. For goodness sake was everyone going to egg her on about this? It wasn't a thing to worry about!

"Just don't worry about me alright?" She tried to keep her tone low, even if her blood pressure was going up. Some knew of Kronos' revival, but they swore to keep it within secrecy, because she did not wish to put the camp in a panic. She was trying her best to keep everyone alive, but since that monster attack that took Chiron's life and placed her in charge, she's been on edge with everything. A couple times, she came out of her dreams crying, but forcing it into silence to prevent her cabin-mates from checking on her.

"Everything's fine I just, need to go out for a perimeter check..." She's been mentioning doing such for an entire week, but she doesnt sit there for an hour or ask someone else to help her. She goes out and stays there all day long...

"Everything's fine, everything's fine..." She mumbled deliriously and without hesitation to herself, walking to go do the day long activity while constantly assuring herself to stay calm, though a couple motions were a bit strange, and a couple times she ripped some hair out while grumbling and shaking her head over and over.

Location: Aphrodite Cabin > Dining Pavilion

Scenario: Consorting with new victims...I mean ladies.

With: Other campers

Gods of Olympus! Since when did more campers suddenly start just appearing?! Stefan Hansley rubbed his currently cerulean eyes and stared out the window of his Barbie doll cabin and groaned. "I love freshman orientation." He chuckled darkly, ruffling his chocolate brown, shaggy head and climbing out of bed, giving a quick glance in the direction of the single portrait he had, the kid smiled. "Morning, Dad." Though the guy had dropped him off at a police station, Stefan still cared about and loved him. "How could you do this to me? I'm in the damn girliest cabin in this camp." Stefan had hoped for anyone but the queen of pink to be his mom, but the Fates weren't favoring him, apparently. As he mulled this over, Stefan pulled on a grey muscle shirt, a pair of black slick gym shorts, and grey Reebok tennis shoes. Fishing a comb from his pocket, Stefan made his way to the dresser at the end of his bed and removed some mousse. Finally, after ten minutes, the boy was dressed to impress. All the way to the Dining Pavilion, Stefan could see doves soaring overhead. "Not today, guys." He grumbled, hoping they'd give him a break for once. Luckily, the birds had big enough brains to listen this time and Stefan was able to push through a crowd of newbies until he reached his mother's table. "Welcome to a new year at Camp Halfblood." He murmured, scanning the area for any potential dates that summer. "Why do all the good looking girls have to be my sisters?" He teased, smirking as he yawned and stretched. Cracking his neck, Stefan waited for some beginning of the year speech from either the camp director or someone from Bolt Boy's cabin.

Melody Allyn Harper

Daughter of Apollo

- Off to Breakfast -

"Stress gives you premature wrinkles..." Melody commented offhand as Vasyl chastised their counselor. She huffed irritably as Gwen admitted that she, too, had been missing sleep. "I told you that staying up wasn't good for you. I'm sure that sword was perfect. Your work usually is." She paused, considering her next statement. "Despite you being laughably ADHD even by our standards." She smiled at the girl, easing up from her lecture. It was normal for Gwen to go without sleep. It wasn't healthy for most, but Melody had a theory that Gwen had developed some sort of device that allowed her to stay awake for obscene amounts of time.

Melody watched as Miriam shuffled away, muttering something about perimeter checks. She raised an eyebrow, almost concerned for her well-being. The blonde's concern was interrupted by a loud growl emitting from her stomach. "Anyone else hungry?" She signed, looking up at her companions almost sheepishly. The daughter of Apollo paused to wipe a bit of grease off of Gwen's cheek. "You probably haven't eaten since you entered that bunker, am I right? And we can't have that now can we, Vasyl?"

After more or less forcing company to walk with her, Melody entered the dining pavilion. Her nose was immediately greeting with all kinds of wonderful smells. There was bacon and sausage and eggs and pancakes... Pancakes were always her favorite. Melody sat at the table with her siblings and piled her plate high. Even she wondered how she was able to fit so much food into her small frame. She could make out the Hephaestus table across the hall, and made a face at Gwen. Today was technically the start of the new year and all of the seasonal campers would be arriving for a week or two. As she took a large bite of pancake, she wondered if there would be some kind of announcement.

Gwen,Fields--> Pavilion

Still need tea. Oh look tea. I can handle today now.

Gwen stuck out a pouty lip as she listened to Melody, "I'm fiiiiiiiiiine" She said with a massive yawn, "You try getting something perfect when you can literally point out every flaw it has.I mean I usually Just settle for good for now, but I'll improve it later but I don't want to do that with this sword because I really wanated to make something completely excellent but ughghghghgghgh. Bu-but thanks! Thanks that means a lot to me I always try to do my best..." She then froze stock still as as the girl wiped the oil off her face, hoping she hadn't uncovered a massive blush, "Tea! And food!" She agreed a little to quickly and hurried after the girl as she dragged the group along. At the pavilion she filled her plate with eggs and sausage and sat down and dug into it with demonic speed as she knew she would be fielding questions soon from her siblings.

Where: The North Woods(On the edge in a secluded grove)

What: Letting off some steam

Dagda shouted loudly into the quiet space of the woods. He was angry as all hell. Not for a good reason he knew, but it was so hard to control his impulses. The shout released all his pent up aggression he had built. He then calmly sat down beneath a tall oak tree, and started to read his favorite book, the story of the hero Beowulf. That was what Dagada wanted to be. He wanted to be like a Celtic hero not, the next Hercules, rather the next Beowulf. He also waited and prepared for the inevitable visit by someone, who it was did not matter. Dagada had finally gained control of himself once more. That always felt good. A feeling not met even by heavy exercise. To Dagada he had just slain a mighty monster. One that he had to face every day. Dagada the started to cry out of relief and loneliness dreaming of having friends he could turn to. The shade covering from the tree that was cast over him making him feel comfortable, and most of all at peace.

Cormac Ephraim LeBlanc

Child of Athena

@Renn Skye

Synopsis: Cormac wakes up, gets dressed, brushes his teeth, brushes his hair, ponders the lack of campers in the Athena cabin, walks to the dining pavilion, and thinks about a certain son of Asclepius.

Cormac’s eyes flickered open as beams of sunlight poured in through the windows of the cabin. He was not quite in the mood to force himself into consciousness just yet, so he relaxed his eyelids once again, hoping for Hypnos to give him good luck in his nap. His moment of peace did not last much longer though, as the alarm one of his cousins created began to buzz in an incessant fashion. Releasing a low grumble of frustration from his lips, Cormac slammed his hand down on the strange creation, and lifted his head off of the pillow. Rubbing at his tired eyes, Cormac took the time to reach out and actually flick off the device that one of the Hephaestus children had put together. After completing that motion, Cormac sighed and attempted to get himself fully aware of his surroundings. The light from the sun shone brightly in the comfortable cabin room, forcing the son of Athena to recognize that it truly was morning. He pushed himself into an upright position, and slid off of the bed, landing promptly on two feet. The Athena cabin was very much empty, as there were no other children of the goddess at that time, which was actually quite interesting. Athena usually had at least ten children at the camp at all times, but Cormac supposed this vacancy was… Something akin to a loyalty to his father. He shrugged this off, and decided to focus on something else. For example, the space that he had in the cabin was lovely because he was alone. His fingers traced along the dust covered wall of the room, which he then lifted to his eyes. There was quite a bit of cleaning that needed to be done though. Being the only child of a god was either a curse or a blessing depending on what type of person you were. For Cormac… It was definitely a blessing. Though it was challenging to keep things tidy when he was all alone, he much preferred not having other campers in his own room. Goodness, he had no idea how people dealers with other people fooling around in their space. The thought made Cormac cringe, and his hand fell to his side in conclusion.

Cormac swiftly got dressed, slipping on his camp shirt, and a pair of skinny jeans. He was a little feminine; did this matter? No. Cormac was his own person, and that was nothing for others to trouble themselves with. He also brushed his teeth for a couple of minutes, and brushed out his hair in a simple fashion. Puffing out a gentle breath of air, Cormac tied a pair of tennis shoes to his feet, before straightening his posture, and exiting the cabin. The air was brisk with a soft wind, brushing Cormac’s hair around in all directions. The sun shone brighter than on the average day, but since he supposed that it was around seven thirty A.M at that point, it was only natural. Cormac’s steps were quick and short, his stride maintaining a short person’s manner. He was not eager to get to the dining pavilion; Cormac was merely interested in keeping his pace confident enough to force people away. He used the way he moved to reject the people who attempted to near him. Anyone who saw him would know that he did not want someone to even think about approaching him. The campers around him giggled and joked about their friends and love… All the things that one should definitely not joke about. Well, they were demigods. They were, of course, going to defy all expectations for them in the most frustrating of manners. Cormac stepped up the stairs leading to the pavilion, allowing a rare yawn to slip from his lips. His shoes made almost no sound against the hard flooring beneath him. He was safe, and would hopefully not attract any unwanted attention. Cormac walked up to the buffet and got in line, grasping a plate and utensils so that he would be set for collecting his food. He gazed across the items, and placed the things that he wanted down on his serving platter. Once he reached the furnace, he plucked off a piece of especially juicy bacon, and tossed it into the flourishing flames. He sent a swift message of love and praise in his mother’s direction. With the remainder of his food, he wandered in the direction of the Athena table, and sat down, sliding his legs over the bench. Grasping his fork, he stabbed a pancake and began eating, staring off into the distance as he did so. There was no one at the camp that he considered to be very… Intelligent… Except for one. He was a son of Asclepius, if Cormac remembered correctly, and he was just like Cormac. He was smart, picky, and cold. Cormac imagined that if they ever got the chance to speak, it would be a very interesting occurrence. A smile lifted at the corners of Cormac’s mouth, and he took another bit of food. Yes. Very interesting.

Owen Rydien

Location: Random Tree in camp

Scenario: Talking with Miriam

Buzzing.... It started quickly as a girl approached the tree in which the human hive dozed in. He opened his eyes to see what had stirred up his insects only to she the replacement make her way towards Owen. He didn't hate the girl... Just hated the fact that Chiron was gone. He watched as she walked under the branch he was resting on and wondered if he should talk to her. He knew she didn't like bugs... He knew everyone's likes and dislikes as being ignored and invisible had its perks. He mentally shrugged and rolled off the tree and dropped down behind the Hades girl. "Hello Miriam." Owen said as he straightened up from his landing position, a few insects crawling out of his jacket on instinct "Lovely morning for a walk." He walked up next to her and stopped. He looked into her eyes in the classic Owen style, cold and calculating. He adjusted his shirt so his mouth was visible to the girl. "Are you finally doing your Perimeter Check?" He asked Miriam as he noticed how drowsy the girl looked. "You should ask others for help. You'll drive yourself mad over work and Kronos's revival." He looked her in the eyes as the last words left his mouth. He was one of the first to piece together Kronos's revival from... Eavesdropping on her conversations, and he was the first one sworn into secrecy. He took a deep breath. "I'm joining you on this patrol... And there's nothing you can do to change my mind."

- Being annoyed at Owen -

The girl walked quietly to the edge of camp, just to be stopped by Owen. Urk.. She almost forgot he was covered in bugs. How does he even live like that?

She was further poked at the fact that she was exhausted and shoukd get some help... She didn't need any, and they needed to understand that. She couldn't afford more campers to be killed, but he knew of the secret... No! He can't help, she had to do this herself until a prophecy shows up..

"Trust me Owen, I should be mad right now. Dionysus has pulled me from it several times now." She replied, "... But... Fine. If you identify anything strange, tell me right away."

She began her patrol, looking around nervously with her weapon drawn. She did feel like she was losing her mind once more.. Maybe she was nearby.

"Come out you!" She randomly stopped and shouted at the top of her lungs, "Get the hell out where I can see you!" She shouted again.

My my my... Such a disrespectful girl.

That voice... Gods it was screaming to her mind to let go from just hearing it.

Reality seemed to distort into senseless smudges. Any outside noises became meaningless to the girl as a young woman wearing a dog cap and having a dog on a leash was now standing in front of her.

Owen probably couldnt hear her; her voice was ringing inside her head alone.

"Wh-what do you want Lyssa.."

She said with a pant. It was difficult to hold onto her thoughts when the literal goddess of insanity was in front of her.

Oh? I was just checking on you my pet. Still haven't lost the will to stay sane? Oh thats fine, you'll go so deep into madness not even Dionysus can save you.

"Shut up and just leave me alone!"

I'm afraid that's impossible. I'm attracted by the insane, and you have a giant mount of it, locked. Up. In. Here.

She tapped the girl's forehead,

And its my job to lead you down the path you so lovely pathed.

"Shut up and leave!"

Hum, suit yourself. I suppose i'll get going then~

And with that, the woman vanished.

Miriam instantly fell to her knees, trying to suppress laugher. She needed to stay sane through this all...
