Fun fact about Jennifer!
Her last name, and mother’s name, originate from US folklore. In Indiana, County Road 400 heading South, the two lane road divides, and in the middle stands a grave. Back in the I presume the early 1900s, the state had plans to have a bridge be built over sugar creek. However, a woman, Nancy Barnett was buried in the way of the road. Being that she always loved the hillside, she wanted to, and was, buried overlooking the banks of Sugar Creek. The workers had plans that the grave would be dug up and moved, somewhere away from the banks of the Creek.
Upon hearing this, Daniel G. Doty, her grandson, showed up with a gun, and for weeks, camped out at the grave location, refusing the workers to exhume the grave. Eventually, the county decided to just build the road around the grave.
In 2014, an American folk/alt-country music singer/songwriter named Otis Gibbs, an Indiana native himself, released an album called “ Souvenirs of a Misspent Youth,” and the 8th track in the album is titled “Nancy Barnett,” and it tells the story of this.
With Jennifer, her last name is based off of the family of Nancy Barnett, her mother being named Nancy Barnett, which they lived in Indiana when the outbreak happened. When Jennifer's mother died by walkers, her blood flowed down into Sugar Creek, turning it red, reminiscent of a line in the song that goes like such
“but if you touch my grandma’s grave,/
your blood will flow down the hillside,/
all across the banks of Sugar Creek.”
And now you know.
