Both A&B did love each other for years, B came from a broken home. His father killed his mother sending the whole town into a panic. Being bounced around from foster home to home, gave the young man a reputation he didn't actually want/need.
Yet A loved him, A saw all of his small moments, his laugh, his smile, his hopes and dreams. And it all came crashing down, with one night.

So!! That's a very vague beginning but that's because I want to plot. I was thinking A gets sent away for 10 years, yet he misses out on so much more than just his life with A. Like an unplanned pregnancy and a child he won't know until he comes home?
Or maybe he's an addict/drunk and relapses!?
