the cure isn't a what ... but a who ...
The setting is within a midevil town where the villagers have all sorts of places to turn to when the great pestilence hits the world in one fell swoop.
Some of the villagers turn to god and religion for guidance , the belief in a non physical higher power to save them from the diseases that ravenge the streets but bringing the sick to the churches are even more dangerous so all but one chapel has been closed off to the public so the priests can fend for them self.
Some villagers turn to the nobles to help and guide the common rabble to the light in the darkest of times .. only to find themselves cowering or just as sick as the villagers they are to protect .
Atlast when the others of religion and power is abandoning the hopeless and helpless there comes a man of black clothing that has entered the town , the plague doctor. He has studied the mortality of humans and has discovered a way to cure them ... the methods are unknown but are sure to rid the patients of disease but the side effects are ..... dramatic .
Now comes the new help wanted sign where a assistant (y/c) applies to be the right hand of the doctor. The people in this town need to be saved but they are dreading and are fearful of the doctor. Will the town be saved or crush to ashes
