The Contract

Everything used to make sense. Of course things were far from perfect, but it was normal, typical, it just all made sense. That is until seven years ago when all hell literally broke loose and Contractors and Dolls came about. Still to the average person this was an unknown. Sure some things started making less sense, and things didn't always add up, but how are they to know exactly is going on on the new black market? They have no clue and it's best we keep it this way.

---

You have received your latest mission. Perhaps it was by meeting, or a sly hand-off. You have been with this organization or informant for awhile now, it's all standard procedure by now. And now you have your marching orders. You don't know if there are any other teams on the same case, with the same objective or opposite, yet still standing in your way. All you know is this is your newest mission and that no one likes failure. You might have just got off a mission yourself, but the wicked never rest, and you my friend are no innocent.

Damion walked to the meeting place and sat down, waiting on the informant to come and speak with him, he was alone since he had told Aya to stay at the pond in the park, this was supposed to be a simple drop off, nothing more. Though Aya had made sure that he had the glass marbles with him, so she could keep an eye on him. He glanced up as a man walked toward him, he stood, pulling out a small box, "It's done." he said, he didn't seem to have any regret about killing the woman that had been protecting what was inside the box.

"Good work. I have another mission for you." the informant said and began to explain the mission. Damion nodded as the informant explained the mission, he would make sure that Aya knew everything they had to do before it was time to head out. "Are you sure that you two can handle this?" the informant asked.

Damion frowned at the question, at the insult of it, "Of course we will, I figured you would have more confidence in us than that." Damion said, he shook his head and walked away, there was no paperwork to show for it, just what he kept up in his head. He walked off to go find Aya.

He walked toward the park, he wasn't going to run, they still had time, and they wouldn't have to do any sort of sneaking. Damion shoved his hands into the pockets of his jeans, feeling the camera there, it was a simple cheap little digital camera, it was just something that he had to keep with him, he had stopped questioning why things worked out that way a long time ago. The camera did have plenty of pictures on it, he knew he would need go through and delete them soon, it wasn't as if the pictures were important to him anyway, he just had a hard time remembering to delete them at times.

After a while he walked up to Aya, she was right where he had told her to stay. He studied her for a moment, the abilities that she had were very helpful, though the marbles were a slight annoyance, the way she acted if you lost one was a little grating, so he made a point not to lose them often. He sighed some, remembering that he did have to give her back the glass marbles she gave him, he began digging in his pocket for them, then he pulled them out and looked at them, all three were there as they should be. Damion held the glass marbles out to her, "Here, Aya, I didn't lose any." he said, he wondered how she would react if he managed to lose all of them once. He smiled some, he would have to test that out sometime... when they weren't on a mission. "We will be needing to leave soon, Aya. We have another mission." he said.

Aya responded to the simple command with a simple glare. She would obey, like she had any choice, but still she didn't have to like obeying. Her hands dug into the central pocket of her hoodie, her long but slim fingers running over the smooth surfaces of her two remaining marbles. There wasn't much to do on this end so she began to focus on the marbles in Damion's pocket. Of course she couldn't see anything but she could hear the sounds of the streets as he walked. Her focus went to nearby glass, from display windows to abandoned cups, whatever her medium could pick up on. Now she could see, Aya hated being in the blind, it was as if one of her senses were shut off.

Watching as Damion walked Aya focused on others surrounding him, making sure none gazed at him too often, then again a good spy didn't need to watch their prey. But still she watched for danger. At times she went blind once more and had to put her focus on the marbles, one sense was always better than two. He made it to the meeting place with no troubles and Aya's vision moved around within the building, watching the man come up and their little discussion. Another mission. That was fast but not uncommon.

The mission seemed easy enough, but Aya knew that it would mean facing others, more likely other contractors, it was dangerous and all Aya could do would be watch from a distance. Not that she wuold complain, Aya liked being alive, if she could call this living. But if Damion died, that might suck a bit. Sure enough she would get another contractor, but still she preferred keeping this one alive.

His return was much like his leave and it seemed that he was studying her before rooting through his pockets to find her marbles. Putting out her hand she spoke flatly “It's rude to stare” and with that she pocketed her little treasures, now having all five on hand. There was something about having things run a complete circle. When he spoke up about not losing any Aya wondered if he wanted some sort of reward? It was a simple drop-off after all, was he incompitant enough to lose them that easily? Aya began to wonder if she should trust him to her marbles so freely. Maybe she would only give him two.. no three was to a tactical advantage. She just had to trust in her partner. Then again over the course of their partnership he had lost three of them. And she had of yet to forgive him for breaking the one. Even though it had been an accident. “You lead” she responded while her thoughts ran through. After all she was simply a doll while he was her contractor.

Ceros stood outside of his house watching the moon. He had no current ability but would acquire one when he found the chance.

He sat on the bench near the path leading to his house. A man who looked like he was jogging came by and sat next to him. "We have a new mission for you." "Great, tell me what it is." The man then explained it to him and paused, before slowly getting up and leaving again. He opened the door to his house, and entered his study.

Ceros flipped through the notebook and wrote down his latest mission, ripping out the last page and burning it in his fireplace. He slipped on his headset. He had given Saffron one, too, to communicate with him. He explained the next mission to Saffron, but he assumed she had already known, since there was plenty of wood where he had met the informant. "Is there anything made out of wood near the target that will allow you to keep surveillance on it?" He asked Saffron through the headset, waiting for a response.

Luna hated being called Artemis. The shy and weak girl that cowered from the male race and took each wrong in silence was no more. For all she knew, Artemis was dead. She was Luna. The confident woman sitting at an outside table at the Alcove Cafe stirring the sugar into her tea. Luna didn't fear people. Luna was stronger than them.

Taking a sip from her tea, Luna sat in wait of her "partner" and the informant who would give them their next mission. In order to avoid any unnecessary attention to herself, she was dressed plainly with a large turtleneck sweater and a long wool skirt. Her white hair in a thick braid and a pair of thick framed glasses completed her look and made her blend in with the other dateless plain Janes that sat around her. Luna drummed her fingers along the table in impatience. She had been there for quite a while and although neither Kenji nor the informant were late, it was getting very hot in those clothes and she wanted to change into something much more comfortable.

Damn it. Where was that king of the nerds? Probably off buying some dating sim game. It was the only way that guy would get a date. Luna hated her fuddy duddy partner who seemed more interested in either himself or computers than other people. Of course she hated people as well but at least she was fun. If only she could just ditch Kenji and do this thing on her own, but she'd have to see what the mission was first. If he proved useful then so be it.

Drinking the rest of her tea, she began humming to a song she had heard on the radio not long ago. A waiter then came by and offered her a refill on her drink. Luna touched his arm lightly and thanked him with a flirtatious smile. The man went off with her empty cup and a faint blush on his cheeks. She smirked as she watched him go off. Too easy she thought. Most men were just animals who'd drop at the slightest hint that a pretty girl was interested in him. Her eyes continued following the waiter as he disappeared into the store. If the others didn't arrive soon, at least she could have a little fun with that one.

Damion smiled some, "Yeah, I've heard that before." he said, though he didn't really care what people thought of him. The only people that were important were the ones that paid him, though he really didn't want to make an enemy of Aya since he had to work with her. Maybe losing all of her marbles wouldn't be a good idea, it would just cause trouble between them which wasn't in his best interest, so he discarded the idea that had been forming, though seeing her reaction would have been funny.

He turned to lead the way toward the lab that they were supposed to go to, he slipped his hands into his pockets again, he wasn't worried about the mission, the thing that was on his mind was who was being sent to steal what he had to protect.

Saffron was sitting on a wooden bench, one pale hand touching the wood even though she was in contact with the wood enough that she didn't have to have her hand on it, she just liked the feel of the wood. She watched Ceros with one of her surveillance ghosts and listened in on the conversation about what their mission was. Saffron assured him that she did know what the mission was, then she tilted her head as she sent out her ghosts to find out an answer to his question. "Yes, Some of the doors are wood and there is a desk." she said.

Slender fingers ran through a full head of hair. It was a calculated move as were many of Kenji's traits. He wanted to blend in, seem nothing out of the ordinary when he was anything but. Physically he had a slim build with a bit of height to it, jet black hair complemented his lighter complexion and angled eyes hinted at a mixed heritage. Sometimes his big browns went red, but he wore colored contacts so that the change wasn't easily seen. It helped for both blending purposes and for surprise attacks. He wasn't above trickery, not when it kept his heart beating. The whole package was something to look at, but nothing to do a double take for, so when he walked down the streets armed with an assortment of false tells and subconscious movements he seemed the typical man, practically invisible in the crowd.

Arriving at the meeting place Kenji noticed that Luna was already seated, a look of irritation or was that indifference on her face. He had arrived on time, so it was obvious that the girl had arrived early. Maybe she did it for an impression, most likely to get an one up on whatever the mission was. Kenji didn't play those types of games. It showed one to be overeager and that reeked of weakness to him. Grabbing a chair Kenji sat with her in a quick movement . “New clothes?” he noted a change from what she may typically wear. These words would alert her to his presence if she hadn't been focusing on his arrival.

Pleasantries were cut short when a bear of a man came to the table. He tipped his hat, speaking casually. “Care if I join you, it seems all the tables are taken” Vlad. Their most recent contact since the mishap with the last one. Practically twice his size, Kenji felt no threat from the man. His bulk was mostly fat, which made him weaker and slower, and he was merely a human with no abilities to be seen of yet. Still Kenji would watch him, being safe didn't typically get one killed. “Sure. Nice weather we're having” he exchanged false pleasantries with the man as he took a seat. Kenji just wanted to get to it, and had a feeling Luna felt the same way.

((Damn. I had a four para post and lost it so this is a quick rewrite. I'm livid.))

Ceros wrote down some more details, pausing occasionally. He doodled sometimes along the margins, but he didn't see what was wrong with that. He had an idea. If he knew the layout of the target's location, he would be able to retrieve the target faster. There was also a problem though, concerning his powers. He would worry about this later as he did not think that he had the time to ponder this. He tried to push the thought out of his mind.

"Good, can you map out the layout of the room that the target is currently located?" Ceros asked. He took a sip of his coffee and waited for a response.

Saffron waited as he thought about things, then she blinked once at his question, she continued searching the area with her surveillance ghost, checking to make sure that she knew where everything was. "It is in the last room on a long hallway, the room has a large oak desk and behind the desk is a vault going into another room, that is most likely where it is, I can not see inside since there's no wood, but that seems the most probably place. I have not seen it anywhere else, so I assume that is where it is." she said, she continued searching, making sure that she had not missed anything before she stopped, "Yes, that is where it has to be... I am not sure if it will be moved, but I will continue to check."

"Okay, thanks Saffron."

Now he had one more thing on his mind. "How tight is the security?" He needed to know this information because he wanted to sneak past without getting into a fight of some sort. That was part of his mission anyways. He had to be stealthy, and for that reason he had very dark grey, almost black clothes he could put on. The dark grey blends into the darkness better than black would. He stared into the fireplace, going over his infiltration plan. Except there was the problem that if there were a room with security that had no wood in it, he would be unprepared.

Aya followed Damion silently. So they had to guard the place huh? She wondered where he would direct her to be, nearby in case of interference or far away so that she wasn't spotted and taken out. Both had pros and cons as he explained to her before, but it depended on the mission location and information given which was right for each job. Obviously she had no idea which way was what when it came to tactical so she happily left it all to him, and of course pointed out the flaws to his logic when things took a surprise turn and he hadn't accounted for it. Well just the one time, but they had been given the wrong information, but now they were more careful. More like tedious she thought to herself before reaching into her pocket.

You'll need these again” she managed, handing her partner three of her marbles. Sure there was likely to be glass around, but there were blind spots for both parties so the tactical advantage, she shook her head wanting his words out of it. Advantages and the likes, it was all jargon to her.

Saffron tilted her head, thinking about his question a moment, "There are scientists and guards currently." she said, she closed her eyes, continuing to search the place. "I don't see anyone else currently." she said.

Damion continued to walk, thinking about what to do, it would be better for her to be at a distance, she should be able to keep a good watch over certain parts of the facility, he didn't want to chance her getting hurt though. He was used to her, and having to learn a new doll would not be a very good thing, so if he could keep her safe for as long as possible then that would be better, he would choose exactly where to put her once they got there and he had the chance to look around. "I will want you to be out of harms way, but I need a chance to look around before I decide where you need to be." he said to her, he had to find out where would be the best place for her until their mission was done. He looked at her as she offered the marbles again, then took them, he returned them to his pocket as they had been before. "I'm going to have to figure out a better place to put those, doesn't help very well if you don't see." he said, but that was a problem for another time.

Luna turned her head in response to Kenji and smiled. "Why if it isn't Azrael, Lord of the Dark Elves. What an honor for you to grace me with your presence." Her blue eyes rolled. Working with Kenji was very much an experience she deemed a pain and useless. She'd rather be toting a brain-dead quadriplegic around as a partner. Crossing her legs and laying her hands in her lap, she smiled at Kenji, trying at least seem professional. "Just trying to mix it up a little. You like?" Each word dripped in sarcasm.

When Vlad approached the two, Luna flashed yet another seemingly innocent smile, feeling her face start to cramp up a bit. "The more the merrier. We've actually run out of things to talk about." She motioned to Kenji. "Lucky you came along or things might've gotten a bit . . . awkward," she said in a joking manner. Of course by awkward, she meant bloody. Not that it would happen. Luna was too professional to fight Kenji in such a public place. She's often thought of it though. The thought of wringing his neck as his fair complexion turned blue got her off more than any man could. Not that she'd ever let one of those gorillas so much as touch her.

She always liked to think of herself as stronger than the little hacker. Though he was more intellectually armed than she was, Luna had more experience in actual combat. Also, power-wise, they were probably near equal but though her contract blinded her, at least she was still more mobile than he was with his seizures.

The pale haired girl turned her attention back toward the large man sitting near her. "Actually, we were talking about a book wittle Kenny's working on. It's about a dark wizard and a mermaid who become freelance mercenaries. They've just met the messenger from the noble that wishes to hire them. The problem is that we can't come up with what their first assignment should be. You wouldn't happen to have any suggestions, would you?"

"Alright, I guess I'll head there now." Ceros changed into his dark clothing and opened the front door. He stayed next to the edge of the woods as he walked, until he reached the town. He walked along the sidewalk, glancing around the corners to make sure he wasn't being followed. When he reached the destination, he whispered, "What's the best way to get in? Maybe a window or something..." To Saffron. He hid on the side of the building that was completely shaded, where he could hide and be remotely invisible to anyone on the streets or in the front of the building. He was low just in case there were any windows that somebody could see out of.

Aya stepped in toe with Damion, following from a fraction of inches behind. She nodded to his musings only to realize he wasn't watching her to see so. This aggravated her so. “I understand” She miffed. Holding on to her anger for longer than agreeable she kept silent their walk, focusing more on the limitless mediums around them, making sure they weren't being trailed. Even if he was a fool at times she wasn't going to let her guard down. Especially if her life may be on the line as well.

We could always get you glasses” she smiled, thinking how foolish he would truly look with such a thing on his face. She thought her marbles were a good tool though, when both were blind they were a easy way to light the way, sort to speak, and give them an idea what was going on elsewhere.

--

Kenji raised an eyebrow at her comment, having no idea whom she was referring him to. He assumed it an insult as were many of her lines to him. How... mature of her. The rolling of her eyes only comfirmed his suspicion as he watched her change up her demeanor and respond to his own comment. “But of course” he replied flatly to her, though he could care less just how she dressed.

As Luna started going about with her idle chit chat, most likely attacking him every chance she could, Kenji began to tune her out, just listening to Vlad when he responded to her. Though Kenji quickly realized this was flawed thinking for he needed to hear what his partner was saying. Just how he got stuck with such a b**** he had no idea, mistakably in the beginning he had thought that she would lighten up but it seemed she got worse as time went on. She spoke in code trying to get the mission ops and Kenji turned to Vlad to get the scoop.

But of course they should do intel gathering. After all what assignments can the do without having a goal in mind? I'm not sure of what type of places would be in such a book, but a place like The Initiative could be chocked full of information to be gathered” Vlad smiled easing into her little game. So even the smaller companies wanted information from The Initiative, just what was brewing there that they wanted to find out, and why did they have to be so non specific. Surely if they had just said what they wanted to be found it would bear much more fruitful responses. Instead they would send them and most likely others if they had the resources to spare to find out this one thing, unless this one was truly a start up company and just wanted to find an edge up, which could also be a likely possibility.

Kenji nodded. “I'm quite sure it would leave many possibilities open, I shall work with that. Anything else you might wish to add?” Vlad only smiled. “I'm sure the pair can use their own skill sets to work together on their goal” the man had to be hinting at their specific skill sets. Most likely his hacking and her combat skills. Was he expecting things to get ugly? Nodding, taking what little the man had to offer in, Kenji went to stand “Well it's been a pleasure but we should get going. Jobs to do and such” he only hopes the man hadn't intentionally left anything out. Going in blind without a doll for assistance led for complications. Complications led to risking one's life.

Damion went inside the lab, he shook his head and glanced back at her, "Let's not get me any glasses." he said, he didn't need them and they wouldn't look right for him anyway. "We'll figure something out for a way that you can see all the time." he said, shaking his head again. He looked around the lab, thinking about where he could put her and seeing how much glass was around in the room that they were supposed to be guarding. There wasn't much glass in the room, but that was what the marbles were for. "Alright... Come on Aya." he said as he led her to a room that was near by, though not too close.

He returned to the room that had the safe door in it, he looked at the desk for a moment before slowly moving the doctor's pencil case to the center of the desk, he set one marble on the desk, against the pencil case so that it didn't roll. That way Aya would be able to see, he could just hope that nothing would happen to make it go rolling away, but he guessed that he could always buy her more marbles if he lost them during combat, it wasn't like he was broke and couldn't afford a thing of glass marbles. He slowly walked to the safe and looked at it, it was a good place to keep something, as long as the one coming to steal it would have trouble getting inside, though that all depended on how much information they had, and how well he could guard it against whatever the person could do. If a contractor was coming then he was left in the dark about the person's ability and how to counteract it, though there was a good chance that he would be able to kill them as long as he wasn't noticed too much.

Saffron kept an eye on Ceros when she could to make sure that he made it to the lab safely, then she checked around the building, keeping in mind where he was before answering him. "There's a window around the corner to your right." she said, she checked the room as well, "The room is empty."

She made once again checked the building and then frowned, "There are two new people in there. One is in a room away from where you need to go, the other is in the room that you must enter. I would guess they are extra security and that our mission has been found out by the people who own the lab." she said, she didn't sound bothered by this at all, she figured that he would be able to make it out of there alright, and if he couldn't, she could help him find his way out.

Hearing the flatness of his tone, Luna twisted her sitting position a bit and looked up at Kenji with a somewhat shy look on her face. "Aww, Kenny. Can't you act just a wittle like you're happy to see me. After all, I'm so happy to see you again. The only thing could possibly make me happier is a root canal." Her tone was sarcastic again but she still held that professional smile on her face.

Luna clapped her hands together after hearing their mission from Vlad. "Ooh, that's perfect. But the mermaid should probably get some lighter armor first. It's probably hard enough to move around without some heavy armor weighing you down." She was referring to how she needed to change her clothes before doing anything but assuming that their latest job would take place at night, there shouldn't be any problem with time.

She took note of when Vlad mentioned how both of their skill sets would come in handy and gave a disgruntled sigh. That mean that there was hacking involved, which meant that she couldn't just leave him behind. And guessing at how the security of that place must be, with it being such a desirable target, she'd most likely have to protect him as he got to second base with a pc. She'd have to put up with it though. Money was a necessity. And as much as she hated Kenny boy's guts, she had to admit that he had a way with computers that she couldn't even begin to comprehend.

Following Kenji's lead, Luna stood up and pushed her chair in. "I'm afraid it's a good bye for me as well. It was nice to meet you, sir. I hope we can do this real soon." She then waved to the large man and headed off on her own way. God, these clothes were so hot. She could've sworn she sweated off at least five pounds during that conversation.

Sorry, this RP is pretty much dead. And next time, look for a sign up sheet in the sign up sheets section of each category. That is where you usually make characters unless it's one of the ones that they have made character directly on the RP. ^^ I hope you find one to join soon.
