Realistic or Modern The City will Never be the Same - CS

Shog

The Infinite Being
IC: The City will Never be the Same
OOC: The City will Never be the Same - OOC

Rules:
  • Try and have your power be related to what you were doing when hit by the Meyer's Explosion (names so due to the origin of the explosion previously belonging to Meyer's and Co. though sometimes just reffered to as the Explosion). I know this isn't always possible, but please try.
  • The name of the city is Bruma.
  • Don't be too powerful. That's a vague directive, I know, but try and use common sense to figure it out. I expect us all to take more of a beating than a person reasonably should, if that helps.
  • Several weaknesses with lesser effect are preferred over a couple severely debilitating ones (i.e. red sun and kryptonite to Superman. They render him to mortal strength or worse and are hard to obtain. Having a couple more that are much less debilitating is far more interesting.)
  • This might seem contradictory to the last point, but I'm only expecting 2-3 weaknesses. This is mostly because I won't accept anything close to superman's power.
  • Character flaws and emotions (lustful, easily angered, etc.) are not weaknesses. At least not in the sense the category is looking for.
  • I ask for a moral alignment, but this is not black and white. Considering they are going to need to work together sooner or later, it's probably best not to go straight Joker.
  • In the Bio section I am looking for where they were at the time of the Meyer's Explosion and the major events that led to current events (three months later), but you can add more if you feel it necessary. In fact, if it helps add context for things they do after the explosion then please add it.
  • You can always argue your point and try and make me see better from your perspective, but no means no.
  • No more than 2 characters per person, and only if you really want it.
  • I will not allow a WIP to clutter this page for any longer than 48 hours unless you inform me of special circumstances, at which point I will grant you an extension. If I have heard nothing by the time your 48 hours are up, I will remove your CS from this page and send it to you via private message.
  • I do not use Discord, so PM me if you want to ask a question while keeping it a secret from the others or something like that.

(If your character has nothing from a certain section, feel free to put N/A or something like that)

Name: Isaac Allan
Alias: Thresher
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Appearance:
hunter_by_mercyguy-d664vvc.png

Skills: Contradictory to his appearance, Isaac is a very intelligent man.. shark-thing. He is very skilled at recognizing patterns, especially behavioral ones. He is very knowledgeable in the field of biology and genetics, specializing in sharks.
Powers: Shark physiology. The Explosion merged his DNA with that of a shark (well, several sharks). This comes with a few added perks, such as the ability to breath under water, swim at high speeds, sense electric impulses (look up ampullae of lorenzini for more information), and greater strength. One thing he found fascinating is that his strength is not proportional. He is strong enough to lift and throw cars. The one ability he hasn't been able to make sense of is a regenerative factor. He heals at a much faster rate than a normal person. His "skin" is thick and can take more of a beating than human skin.
Gear/Weapons: None

Weaknesses/Limitations: He might regenerate quickly, but that doesn't mean he can take massive hits. He is only slighly less susceptible to bullets than a normal person and his large stature does not help. He also does not know the limits of his regeneration, but he doubts he'd be able to grow new limbs. He theorizes that even if he could, they wouldn't be nearly as functional as the original. His new form inhibits his ability to communicate. He has to really focus on what he wants to say, and complex words are nearly impossible.
Moral Alignment: Neutral. He has no intention of being a criminal, but his new body makes him believe he cannot be "good."
Bio: Isaac grew up in Bruma. He attended the local University all the way through grad school. He found a job at a local aquarium with research opportunities the summer after graduation. He even had a steady relationship going. All in all, he was doing pretty good. Until the Meyer's Explosion, that is. That night he was working late, running PCR on DNA samples from various species of sharks. The impact knocked his samples all over and he hit his head on a counter, knocking him out cold. He awoke in the hospital and was soon released. The next couple weeks were a blur. He tried to catch up in his project, but focusing became harder and he began feeling ill. A visit to the doctors office left him with orders to stay home and rest. The last he remembers of his old life was walking along the beach to meat his girlfriend. The next thing he remembers is waking up on the sea floor, starving and half shark. He adapted to his new life and body for an unknown period of time. He soon discovered that he can breath both above and below the surface. His apartment wasn't far from the shore and took a risk. He broke into his own apartment and snatched anything of value, including a hoodie from work and his key card. He has now snuck into his work twice, where he caught up on the date and recent news as well as snatched some research materials he believes may aid in his cure. It was during his second trip that he found an article about himself. It depicted a strange shark man, dubbed Thresher.
Other: His priority is finding a cure for his condition. His tail is not as long as the picture leads you to believe and he is more grey instead of blue. He has been known to lose control to his instincts, but hasn't hurt anyone yet.

Name: Lewis B. Hudgens

Alias: Discharge

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Appearance: Lewis is a messy redhead with brown eyes, he stands at about 6'0. Half of his face is burned from the chemicals, which left a nasty burn mark/scar on the left side of his face.
_oc__realistic_chase_by_13lolol-d9jfjx3.jpg
8b78565fc33a88aaca34c4761bf6567b--dc-comic-comic-art.jpg
Skills: Lewis has a relatively good knowledge of hand to hand combat - he’s never actually had to fight anyone, but his father did force him to take classes when he was younger, he’d even made him join the wrestling team. Props to that, I guess. He’s also very good at seeing things to the grainiest detail, not really, that’s over exaggerated. But he does notice things easily even if it takes him a while to analyze it.

Powers:
Combustion - Lewis can, technically, create an atomic explosion. (It’s self explanatory, weaknesses are below)
Heat Manipulation - Lewis’ body is constantly at a rising temperature, meaning he gives off heat. When using his powers especially, you can practically see the heat radiating off of him. He can’t change the heat within himself but can use it to create small waves which relates to his combustion/explosion power.
Optic/Hand Blasts - Due to his restricted explosion/wave powers, Lewis can release beams of nuclear energy from either his eyes or hands.
Flight - His powers allow him to fly, strictly by the amount of radiated being constantly propelled that help him stay floating.

Gear/Weapons: Lewis’ mother built him a bracelet to help him know when his body’s temperature is rising at a risky high. He also has a suit that allows him to use his powers at a more controlled extent so he’s not creating unnecessary damage. It releases the amount of heat/radiation that he wants/can handle.

Weaknesses/Limitations:
Combustion - Lewis can’t create a huge explosion without it taking all of his energy and most likely passing out, and it’s especially rare that said power will work unless he’s absorbed a major amount of energy. In terms of how much energy he can absorb, suppose he’s trying to stop radiation, he can only take in so much before it hurts him.
Heat Manipulation - His body’s already at an abnormally high temperature from his powers though the more it builds up, he could possibly die. Due to this constantly rising temperature though, Lewis has to use his powers at least once a day. He’s pretty much an atomic bomb waiting to explode, but he can actually control it.
Optic Blasts - It sounds like a lovely power, similar to laser eyes. Though it can be extremely powerful and isn’t something he can properly control. Due to his powers being new, he has special glasses when he’s out of his suit to prevent from hurting anyone or anything from random blasts. Even with his suit when he uses the blasts, it’s not recommended as he could hurt the wrong person at any given time.
Flight - He can only care one other person with him, though they must be very careful due to the possibility of burning them.
Moral Alignment: Good Neutral
Bio: Most people would be thrilled to explain what went on in their life, but the most significant part of his life started with the explosion. You know the one. Lewis is a college guy, he’s an aspiring criminal analyst. He majors in psychology-criminology. Though the day the explosion went off, he’d been working with chemicals, a mock crime scene within a science class. His mother herself was a chemist, and her son was in a coma for about two months. She kept Lewis in her lab station though, everyone believing he had gone into a temporary training program elsewhere. When he woke up, his powers were immediately active. Imagine Cyclops from x-Men, his vitals and body temperature were at an abnormal high and he was destroying everything around him. Though it took a while, his mother was able to create glasses to protect others from his eyes daily and potentially stop the optic blasts. Though she eventually created a suit as well, considering she’d been taking her son far away from the city to turn into whatever he was. It prevented his death, turning into some nuclear man.
Other: He’s been kept secret from most others and after his classes simply goes back to his mother’s laboratory, his social life practically over. There’s been several news stories on strange occurrences of destruction in nearby woods/abandoned areas which is due to Lewis going out and using his powers at least once a day.

Name: "Renae." Renae Black
Alias: "I just got these powers! Fine...Static Shock works."
Age: 17
Gender: "Your business? No." Female
Appearance: "PALENESS OVERLOAD! Sorry, I make cameras act up...heh"
f_by_kuvshinov_ilya-dbsckyn.jpg
Pale gray eyes, light blonde hair. Her skin is still pale, but not completely white. I'm just using this picture cause it's the one I wanted. She stands at 5'4" and weighs 115 lbs.

Skills:
Being a high school senior, she has no skills outside of academics and basic things. She's a cheerleader, and has acrobatic skills as well as the strength to back it up (lifting her body weight). She also has incredibly neat handwriting, and is a good artist.

Power Origin: Renae gained her powers when the explosion somehow passed through her computer and destroyed it completely. She was unharmed, but that was only until she tried to put her computer back together...

Powers: Electricity Manipulation - Renae possesses the power to generate (a very little amount) and manipulate electricity. Simple, right? Not exactly. She has recently discovered a few uses for her power other than simply being a human stun gun.
  • Electrical Absorption - Renae can absorb electricity from sources such as power lines, electronics, and wall outlets. She doesn't think she can absorb electricity from living beings. It's unlikely that she can.
  • Electrically Enhanced Speed - Renae has once used her electricity to enhance her speed to 80 miles per hour. She was extremely confused as to how it happened, but it definitely worked. She plans to try it again.
  • Current Detection - Renae also developed an extension of her senses that allow her to see electrical currents. This gives her the ability that allows her to see into electronics.
  • [UNDISCOVERED] Electrical Aura - Renae can surround herself with electricity. Simple as that. She has no idea how yet.
Gear/Weapons: "A kitchen knife."
Weaknesses/Limitations:
Rubber, Silicates, Insulators - It actually blocks electricity flow completely. If in contact with her skin, it'll stop the current from even flowing out from her body in any direction.
Limited Power - She has to absorb electricity from something like a wall socket before being able to use her power. While her body is incredibly efficient at using it, she can run out of it.
Water - Water isn't necessarily a weakness for her, but it'll disperse electricity fired into it.
Voltage - Being struck by lightning won't affect her, but if she's struck by lightning and then proceeds to absorb more power, the electricity will go to her brain and knock her out, discharging all present electricity in her body into the environment.

Moral Alignment: Neutral? She's a high school junior...
Bio: Renae had a childhood of philanthropist parents who used to be doctors, so she was raised to be very altruistic and friendly. She never was the type to bully anyone despite her popularity within the school and stuff. She eventually made good friends with a boy a year older than her named Evan Braun. The two were just fine until the explosion. Once the explosion went off, Renae's laptop exploded. When she tried to put it back together, the electricity merged with her body. Then one day when she was walking around, an electric shock discharged from her hand into the outside. This scared her very much and she immediately went to tell Evan. However, Evan witnessed something weird and she decided that maybe she wasn't the only one affected.

Name: "Evan Braun"
Alias: "Don't know, don't care."
Age: "Legal." 18
Gender: "Dude...look at me." Male
Appearance:
5aaba91805809739c072033e7659879b--character-ideas-character-art.jpg

Skills: Evan is a (recently graduated) high school senior, so he has the skills of one. He's an average student and is a part of the school's magazine club. He's exceptionally good at finding good stories for the paper, so he could become a detective with a little bit of practice. He's also athletic due to Cross Country in his junior years and can run for long distances without tiring himself out. He took martial arts in his younger years, but never managed to get past red belt. He knows the basics of hand to hand combat, but he is by no means a master.

Power Origin: Evan got his powers when he was hunting birds in the woods. The explosion cracked the glass of his hunting rifle's scope and the gun hit his forehead. He thinks he got his powers from his rifle But in reality, he got his powers when an eagle landed behind him. The explosion knocked the eagle's brain patterns into Evan's brain, which explains excellent predation skills.

Powers: "Instinct" - Evan has no idea what his combination of powers represent, but they seem to be geared towards making him excellent at locating and subduing humans.
  • Enhanced Vision - Evan possesses enhanced vision that allows him to do a couple of things. The most basic application would allow him to see over great distances, similar to a predatory eagle. He can "zoom in" on certain things if he focuses on them enough, and make out minute details if he's looking at something closer. He cannot see microscopic.
    • X-Ray Vision - While Evan can't simply see through everything, he can see through up to two walls and through corners. He is also capable of looking through a human without harming them. Most of the time, he uses this to look at someone's diaphragm to see their breathing.
  • Enhanced Strength - Evan's strength is unparalleled by normal humans. While he isn't anything super impressive, he is capable of lifting the front half of a car and stopping a vehicle in its tracks by grabbing it by the front. Cap: 8,000 lbs.
Gear/Weapons:
Weaknesses/Limitations:
Strength - His strength caps at 8,000 lbs. It is unknown whether this can be pushed through training, but it's a cap. His muscles are durable enough to withstand his strength, but that's about it. He's not supernaturally durable.
Vision - Sudden changes in light will throw his vision off, and zooming in reduces his peripheral vision. Furthermore, his sense of hearing is slightly off when he's focusing on something intensely. Everything goes silent, making him oblivious to loud noises that could potentially be alerting.
X-Ray Vision - He can't see through lead or anything thicker than that. Also, if he's been cut by lead, such as a bullet, his vision will act up due to the minute traces of lead entering the capillaries in his eyes.
Moral Alignment: Neutral.
Bio: Evan was born to a family of reporters. As a result of this, his parents almost always pushed him to become a part of the newspaper groups in his school. Despite these expectations, pressure wasn't ever one of Evan's problems. He had a good friend in a girl named Renae Black and often confided his secrets in her. The real significant part of his story starts when the explosion went off. He was hunting birds when suddenly an explosion went off. He didn't know what to make of it, but the second he lowered his rifle and walked off, his vision went crazy. He saw through all the trees and couldn't tell what was invisible. As he tried to feel his way back and focus his vision, he hit his hand on a tree...and knocked it down. Running back, he went and told Renae what exactly had happened, and she shared a similar experience.
Other: He wants to use his abilities for good, but he doesn't know who to track down at this point.

I would like to inform you of an update to the rules. You have have a maximum of two characters (and only if you really want it). I have also placed a time limit on how long you may leave a CS in progress (48 hours). For those that have posted a WIP before this post, that time begins as soon as this is posted. Exceptions are listed in the rules.

Name: Braiden Vincent
Alias: N/A
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Appearance:
ea53954012b16de6ce31a72f6afc54ff.jpg
Skills: Having gone through many years of college, juggling his priorities now comes naturally to him. Multiple variables in any one situation won't bother him, as well as the memorization of important dates; deadlines, for example. His mind is resourceful, although he doesn't usually find himself in a position where his money wouldn't solve problems. Thanks to his abilities, a healthy dose of creativity is with him almost constantly.
Powers:
Caster- Braiden has gained the ability to cast a multitude of spells/abilities. Each takes on a red-like hue, like in the appearance photo. Although, since he's had to learn them all for himself, the selection is currently rather limited. A side note: the more complex and larger he wants to cast, the more energy will be taken up. Simple objects are the focus of his abilities.
1. Bolt- Fires a bolt of what seems to be solidified energy. They generally are about a foot and a half in length and can pierce as well as an arrow. They naturally disintegrate after ~30 minutes.
2. Shield- A small barrier is constructed on the back of his right forearm, is about two feet in diameter, and can block rather high amounts of force; a thrown brick, for example, will shatter upon impact with this shield. However, objected designed to pierce surfaces, like a bullet or arrow, are the primary weakness of this shield. Has the same time limit as the bolt, but taking a beating will reduce it drastically.
3. Gauntlets- The same strength of barrier as his shield cover his fists. This takes the most effort to create, and will of course generally last a very short amount of time, roughly 10 minutes.
Enhanced Intelligence- Braiden has a greatly enhanced intellect compared to normal people, but it's nothing compared to those whose powers are focused on it. Primarily using his mind for developing new ways to use his abilities, and strategic use when applicable, a general conversation won't give others the illusion of him being greatly smarter than they are.
Gear/Weapons: None
Weaknesses/Limitations: As it stands, Braiden cannot cast more than twice within an hour of each other(safely, that is. Three is possible but he tends to pass out afterward.).
Moral Alignment: Whatever pays. In this day and age, that just so happens to be in the form of mercenary work. So, practically speaking, he's fairly far from the "good" side of the spectrum.
Bio: Braiden grew up in Bruma, with his mother, and not knowing his father. The general claim from his mother was that he'd been dead. This was enough for him, and he'd never really had problems growing up. Excelling in school and college, he was ready to make use of his newfound skills. Of course, it was right before he began work at a small science lab, which was gaining popularity from the premise of biomechanical weaponry, some sort of sick sales pitch was brought to him from what was claimed to be a mercenary service... Run by his father. He thought it a false claim designed to lure him in. A swift decline later, Braiden was being toured through the offices and lab. It was this night that the Meyer's Explosion occurred. Braiden was just on the edge of the radius of effect, and he was still perfectly affected. Approximately a week after the explosion was when he discovered his powers, along with the Bolt ability. He soon sought out the agency from before, along with a change of heart that accompanied his new abilities. This occupation proved to pay much more than a science lab ever could... It seemed people would pay handsomely for someone with special abilities to do work for them. So far, the past two months have been bathed in wealth.
Other: Although it's not put to use, the skills learned in college are still easily known to him.

I should have pointed this out earlier, but if there is any section where you don't have something then you can just say N/A or none or something like that (like you did under Gear/Weapons). This applies to Alias as well, so if he doesn't have one then all you need to complete this is skills.

Shog Shog DONEEEEE!!!!

Both accepted. I suppose I can officially welcome you aboard now, so welcome!

Just a friendly reminder that today is the last day to complete your CS(s). For simplicity's sake I will give you until 5:00 PM (MST). If you need an extension please just ask. It is finals week for me, so I completely understand if you're swamped with school.

I’m not sure how long that means I actually have since I’m in the EST time zone, and I’m currently at school as well as sick so I haven’t made a lot of time to finish this up, though it is almost done. If it’s not done by tonight, hopefully I can have my CS done tomorrow.

According to a quick google search, you're two hours ahead of me. 5:00 PM my time is 7:00 PM your time. Still, I'll take that as a request for more time, so have an extra 24 hours.

I added a link to the OOC chat at the top of the page. I want to start a discussion on how to start the RP, so please head over and check it out when you get a chance. Thank you.

Accepted.

Skills: Im pretty good at reading people and I can get... things, and if I can't I know someone who can. The Logan is a thief a master of stealth and lies, I have no need for such things. I am Weir Sorcerer supreme. Master of the mystic arts.
Powers: Weather control. Arcane has the ability to manipulate wind and lightning. He can project lightning from his hands and generate small tornados to move objects and himself into the air. The wind is difficult to direct and cannot move anything heavier than a person.
Gear/Weapons: I don't carry much. The Cloak of Ak-Mun. Boring hoody. The dagger of Perottin. Fire dagger (that ones actually pretty cool). The Bracers of Saino. *Shrugs* And the mists of Taradin Glorified smoke bomb.
Weaknesses/Limitations:
Fractured mind. Weir does not exist. He is a survival mechanic created by logan's mind to keep his body from shutting down from shock after gaining powers. If the illusion starts to break down it may have negative effects on logan.
The Illusion Weir Believes that he is the reicarnated spirit of a long lost sorcerer from ancient Norway. His death was caused by the townsfolk who burned him for his "evil magic". And so Weir has an irrational fear of fire as he believes it is the enemy of magic. He will make all efforts to aviod fire and will slowely lose his powers after prolonged exposure.

Moral Alignment: As I said before the Logan is a thief. (Although he does seem to have some sense of honour) The magic man is always going on about order and justice. It gets boring real fast.

Bio: I would tell you my tale but unless you have the fabled pendant of immortality you would die of old age long before I finished. So one night I was plying my trade around the town, trying to make abit of coin here and there. Just taking from those that could afford mind you. The kind of people who step on the little guy. Unfortunately those guys tend to have a lot of security guards. So things didn't go great. He was spotted. And the guards decided not to call cops but take matter into there own hands. Cue a daring escape through the city center until I found myself in the City library. I pushed a a table up against the door and looked around for an exit, I made my way towards the roof through and old stair case passing many books of history and mythology. I quickly ducked passed an old librarian wearing a long grey rain coat that was heading towards the entrance wear the guards now bashed against the door. I slammed open a fire exit and ended up on the roof. Clouds were gathering overhead and rain was starting to fall making the railing slippery as I climbed over. I had to get to the other roof. As I leaped the whole city lit up with an explosion. I landed hard on the side of the building my elbows propped on the ledge and holding me above a dark alley. I looked for the source of the explosion but could only see a pillar of smoke. I lifted my leg up onto the ledge and hoisted myself up. I stood on the roof and looked back towards the library just in time to see the guards run out onto the roof. I smiled and gave a mock salute to them and turned away. And then I got hit by lightning. I woke about a month later in a hospital with another voice in my head and this feeling like fire was flowing through my veins.

Other: Logan and Weir Share a body and the abilities that come with it. They can transfer control to the other consciousness but if they try and fight over the body it shuts down until they can agree on who controls it.
Normally this'd be pretty good. In fact, I have been known to be the one pushing for more of a magical presence in these types of RPs. But not this time. This RP is supposed to be more based around those effected by the Meyers' Explosion and their life in the fallout of the event. Another angle is to play as a normal person trying to play Batman to make sense of the changes in the city. I don't want to go any further than that, else open a whole can of worms to further detract from the base of the RP. You can keep the same base concept, even down to conflicting personalities (one just believing they are a sorcerer , but if you could model it back towards the Meyers' explosion that'd be great. Other than that, my only issue is in your weakness section. I'm going to need more than just not being bulletproof. That's honestly just an assumed unless you have some power that may lead others to thinking otherwise. Whatever else you choose, focus it more on the powers themselves. And perhaps define the powers a bit more, but that mostly comes down to limitations. Just as a side note (having no impact here but may provide useful information for the future), the earliest evidence of mummification in Egypt was about 5,500 years ago. The Homo neanderthalensis was estimated to go extinct about 40,000 years ago. Compare that with the supposed 50,000 year old entity that is Weir.
