The Year is 3125...
Earth is unrecognizable. Climate change ravaged the planet a little over 1000 years ago, leaving most of the land either dry, radioactive desert or frozen tundra with ice storms ragging almost 24/7. Water now covers only 35% of the Earth's surface, with most of the water being toxic. The population dropped several billion as radiation, starvation, and harsh weather rocked the earth.
However, humanity has since rebuilt itself. In the past 1000 years, dome cities were built around the surviving populations and technology, medicine, and science began to strive once again. Humanity now possesses technology the 21st century could only dream of, and has visited every planet in the solar system. Earth knows peace like never before, with only 4 nations governing the small population left.
The first nation is Oberon, which now governs over the entirety of the inhabitable North and Central Americas as well as part of Northern South America. Their culture contains relics of past North American and Central American countries. They are devoted to agriculture technology, having developed the agriculture science that saved humanity from the brink of starvation. They are famous for floating farms, which were invented to hover above buildings/ground farms to conserve ground space. The uninhabitable parts of this nation are former Alaska, former Canada, the former Western coast of the United States, and the former Caribbean Islands. This nation's capital is named Jupiter, and is located very near to former Kansas City, Kansas.
The second nation is Amse, which encompases the entirerity of the inhabitable continent of Africa. Their culture is reminiscent of past African and South Asian cultures. They are a highly medically advanced society, specializing in cyborg body transplants as well as cryogenic freezing, consciousness transplants, etc. They are responsible for the extreme medical advancements of humanity, and remain the center of health science in the world. Uninhabitable parts of this nation include all formal coastal regions as well as the former Sahara Desert. This nation's capital is named Kai, and is located in the middle of former Zambia.
The third nation is Seki, which now controls Eurasia. Their culture is a mix of that from past European and East Asian countries. They are the world leaders in transportation technology, having created the Sonic Trains that bridge the deserts and toxic oceans that separate the nations from each other. They also specialize in hovercraft, such as the common Hov-Car. Uninhabitable parts of this nation include former Northern Russia, former Western China, and former North Japan. This nation's capital is named Phaz, and is located near the North-Eastern coast of former China.
The fourth nation is Demricet, which now covers former Eastern and Western Europe. Their culture is mostly based in a mixture of past European cultures, still holding some of their old country boundaries as cultural barriers. This nation specializes in space travel and outer-space exploration. Ever since the almost complete destruction of Earth by climate change, humanity has been searching for a way to move to other planets. However, humanity has never been able to make it out of the solar system. This nation is devoted to finding a way out of the solar system to reach inhabitable planets. Uninhabitable parts of this nation are former England, former Ireland, former North Sweden, North Norway, and North Finland, former Portugal, and former Netherlands. This nation's capital is Medora, and is located in the South-Western part of former Poland. This nation's Eastern boarder is separated from the nation Seki's by a large frozen tundra desert.
All other land not inhabited by these four nations are either uninhabitable or only inhabited by small groups of people, usually no bigger than 1,000-5,000 people.
Our story takes place in the capital city of Jupiter, the largest and most populated capital of all 4 of the nations. People from all nations inhabit the city, working a number of specialized or unspecialized jobs. However, Earth does not contain only humans. Cyborgs and fully sentient and self-aware robots, called Droids, also live on Earth. Droids are considered second-class citizens, not being afforded the same rights as humans as they were originally created to be workers hundreds of years ago but have since gained free will. Cyborgs are respected almost as much as humans, but the more part-robot they are the less they are respected.
This is where our story begins.
