The cyclical nature of Angels and Demons (and the seven circles of Hell)

.Rainwhisper

Manic potato
Of that first disobedience,
And the Fruit of that Forbidden Tree,
Whose mortal taste brought Death into the world and all our Woe
- Paradise Lost (inspired)
This story is one every Angelic being knows, memorized from the moment of their creation. There was never any reason to question this tale, with the Sun shining down, and splendor radiating from every corner of this marble city. In the bedrock of faith is was hewn, and upon the Sun’s ascension, it rose. All is well in the city of the Sun.
…. For every reaction there is an opposite reaction.

There was a rumor, a tiny, insignificant rumor that was sometimes whispered with much amusement, when drunk on sunlight. It told a tale from a book (that is now long gone - having been burned to cinder) about a different narrative. One that would impress that man’s first disobedience was not the first disobedience.

In the beginning,
Man was not so much a species as it was a designation
A class of being that designated being created by the Creator
A secondary, less powerful being to populate the two realms
For there must always be the populous.
The great and virtuous among them ascended to the heavenly realm
To watch over humans and to guide and protect them, he enlisted the help of his first creations - the Angelic Beings.
They were round beings with 4 arms, 4 legs and a single head with 2 faces.
The Creator was an exacting being, an entity that was Goodness incarnate.
He tasked these Angels with maintaining the order of the world.
What the Creator failed to account for is the dual nature of the universe.
The natural law that supersedes his influence.
And the Angels were unable to complete total exacting justice as He saw fit
As they were sympathetic to the plight of those condemned or deemed unworthy.
So he split them - One to serve and the other…
To reincarnate. Again and again.
Less than immortal and more than man.
Reformed to the physical constraints of a mortal,
Yet tormented endlessly as the cycle repeats.
Their Angelic Selves no longer remember a time before Labour and Order
And the fallen?
They are branded by a mark of sin.
From when they are born they cannot remember any of their past lives or the sin that cast them out.
It is only in death that it is revealed, and then it is ripped away.

More Lore:
Essentially there are 7 “superior” Angels (based off the 7 heavenly virtues) and the 7 “superior” demons (based off the seven deadly sins). There are humans in both realms with only the ones deemed worthy by the Creator allowed into the “heavenly” realm.

Demons: Each demon corresponds to a sin (Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath, Sloth). Each of these sins will have a punishment associated with them. For instance Lust - being in excruciating pain when touching another person, Gluttony - their tongue blisters anytime they eat something, etc - I might put it to a vote whether to have these preset or based on your design)

Superior Angels: 7 heavenly virtues (chastity, temperance, charity, diligence, kindness, patience, humility). These angels essentially get a buff relating to their specialty however the cost of that “buff” is usually the loss of some form of emotion/“humanity” for lack of a better term. An apt way to describe this is oftentimes they lean more towards “ends justify the means” and their loss of humanity (via mentality) shows this.

Misc Thoughts:

- I was thinking about having only 7 players to fill the slots (or maybe 6 if I fill one - unless I just role fill like Satan or something) and having them play one angel and one demon.
- I do have some general themes I’d want to incorporate going all the way to possibly the “end” of the story.
- Something I’ve always been sad about it not being able to complete RPs and not having a plot after the initial world building so if need be I can just slot fill for npcs etc. (let me know if you would like a lot looser rp)

All of these misc thoughts are changeable or open to discussion. Nevertheless tell me what you think!

Absolutely interested. Paitence and Pride would be my picks.

OMG thank you for your interest! It means so much to me!! 🥰🥰 (I was worried having no coding or fancy editing/css would make it too plain to catch anyone's interest 😭)

interested!

Thank you so much for y'all's interest!! ^^ I figured we'd need around 6 (but hopefully 7 players other than me) because I don't wanna burden y'all with having to take more than 2 characters :)

Interested! Eyeing Sloth & Kindness 👀

Just a quick question about what the plot of the roleplay will be, and if ooc will be on discord or on site

Sorry for the late reply. I haven't decided for the OOC - figured I'd put it to a vote on what the players prefer as I can adjust. As for the plot... I guess that's hard to describe. If I had to provide a central conflict: On the surface it seems to be Angels vs. Nephilim. However, it's really about the freedom of choice, and independence from the Creator. Freewill vs. Predestination. Independence vs. Order. When is the cost of "happiness" too high? How will your characters feel at the end when the idea of absolute truth and goodness has fallen?

The Nephilim have been suffering endlessly, and although they lose their memories upon rebirth, they feel the remanents of a driving force to gather together and resist the unfair damnation that their lives have become. Yet this time their memory is not wiped and they remember their origins. Your Nephilim (the Captains of all of the other sins) are gathering forces to free Satan. Yet they are drawn to the Angels even though every single time it has brought about their death. (I can leave it up to yall whether you want a more interpersonal reason why this changes or conflict wise). The Angels have only known order. They cannot imagine a world in which they were anything other than enforcers and emotions such as empathy. They believe heaven is a Utopia but after engaging in your characters they realize that Utopias are built on the invisible suffering of the maligned, and unrepresented. Together they fight against their Creator in a final battle and in the ashes, they must decide who to be (since I assume they will be merged back together again - Nephilim and Angels).

This is the general layout but I think it's not the plot that is particularly unique so much it is the focus on the characters. I started this roleplay with the idea that it was to be character driven - the discussions and the viewpoints your characters take shape the decisions and philosophy of what happens. It relies heavily on how your character thinks, interacts and shapes the world and how the world responds in turn. Rather than events pushing the plot forward, the events reveal truths about the characters and it is defined by characters' internal lives and motivations than I would say anything else. Does that make sense (sorry if I rambled for a hot minute there. I'll shut up now 🤣)
