Fantasy The Carnival

The carnival was stopped and set up outside a rural town, the carnies being the ones who did all the work in setting it up obviously. Any who tried to rest without being told was whipped by the trainers, especially Morgan, who took a big interest in it. The only ones who didn’t help where the ones who didn’t have hands, other forms, or forced to stay in the water.

Nadia watched the others as she “sat” on a rock in her tank. She was sometimes glad she didn’t have feet, even if she did she would have just about the same amount of freedom. She watched all the other carnies work, and threw trash back at them if it was thrown into her tank. She didn’t yell back though, and she was really careful with her throwing, since either one could draw the attention of a trainer.

Martyr

Martyr sat in her room getting ready to leave. She brushed her hair and threw on a red cloak. She remembered how children told her it reminded them of Little Red Riding Hood. She smiled and laughed softly. She drew the good over her face and walked out. Everyone was setting up already. She went to where her table would be and started putting it all together. It was simple really. Just a round table with an ornate cloth and a chair for her.

.
.

Alexeus

Alexeus fixed her dress and grabbed a silk shawl. She went to help to some of the smaller people set up. The owner never went easy on them. She herself had a few scars to prove it, but others sometimes walked away on death's door. She was lucky she could help them, but she didn't always make it in time.

Yupi

Yupi was already outside helping the others set up the various booths. While the work itself wasn't too difficult, there was a lot of it and many were already wishing to take a break. Of course, that's not going to happen because a certain someone decided that they were all slave labor again. Yupi was growing frustrated, and it wasn't just because she had already been whipped several times today. No, it was because of how stupid this system was. "Maybe Morgan, just maybe, we wouldn't have so many "slackers" if you and you goons were capable of getting up and lifting something that isn't a whip." She thought to herself angrily.

She set down the table she had been carrying and took a look about. None of trainers seemed to be looking her way. With this in mind she walked behind the booth as nonchalantly as she could muster. Now out of sight, she leaned up against the back of the booth to take a breather. From her angle she could see the quaint little town they would soon be preforming for. Though she hated this place, she couldn't help but feel a little excited for that. Preforming for awe-struck crowds was one of the few ups to living in this damned carnival.

Spirit
Theme: Hunted Down
Spirit paced his cage as he waited for the carnival to get set up, he would have been fine with helping but his status as a beast meant he wasn't required to. Around his cage flowers and vines seemed to sway and dance on their own, a number of vines even climbing the bars of the cage itself despite making it look like it had been there for a longer period of time than it really had. Of coarse anyone that knew what Spirit was capable of would have know it was him controlling the plants. The only reason he was doing it though was because he was bored.
Occasionally Spirit would stop pacing and sit down to watch the passing carnies. Every once in a while a vine would wrap around an unaware carnies leg just long enough to trip them up, unfortunately for those that did realize what was going on there was nothing they could do about it. Even worse sometimes Spirit would crack one of his vines like a whip behind any carnie that was moving too slow or resting. This would scare most of them into picking up the pace if not completely cause them to fall over waiting to be struck which Spirit wasn't afraid to do if they didn't get the hint.

Vasco

A man in a plague doctor's outfit scrambled around the half set-up camp. He sometimes would stop at a resting carnies and scold them before sending them off on another job. Eventually he came upon a large sheet flat on the ground attached to some wooden poles with ropes tied to it.

"Oh dear, the main tent isn't even set-up and we have a the show tomorrow." The plague doctor worriedly says. "Can someone pull the rope with me? I'm afraid I'm unable to do this by myself. Anyone?" Vasco looked around and saw that everyone was doing something else. He frowns behind his mask as he tugs at the rope in futility. There has to be someone, I can't do this by myself. Oh dear, the boss will be so mad if we don't get the tent up by sundown. The plague doctor looks around frantically for a person to help him. He soon spots Yipu just as she was walking behind a booth. Walking to the booth and peeking around behind it he sees Yipu staring off into the nearby town.

"Now is not the time for a break, we got to get set-up by sundown. Now, please, come and help me with the tent." Vasco lightly scolded as he shook his pointer finger at her before politely asking for help.

Crow a male hapry dressed in a Japanese styled black and white kimono looked around the carnival and bit his lip "erm y-you needed h-help mr. Vasco?" crow asked his pet raven on his shoulder as he stood beside the plague doctor.

he shifted from claw to claw his blindfold over his eyes and he knew the trainers loved to torture him, be it by taking it off and telling him to get back to work, or simply taking it off when he was somewhere bright, which hurt his eyes greatly and knew he tended to get on vascos nerves when he was brought in for his eyes, being unable to do much because of the pain they gave him or at least he thought he annoyed him.

As he stood there his wings shifted and twitched in nervousness before he went to grab the rope and pull it to bring the tent up to help vasoc out, so the man wouldnt get in trouble with the ringmaster and soon yelped as a trainer sent the whip at his wings "get back to wo-" the trainer said to him onlyfor him to stop with the whip when he heard someone speck to him and huffed as the trainer left to get after another carnie.

Cow slowly stood back up shaking in fear from being struck again by the trainer as the man soon left him be, he looked at where he heard the plague doctor and bit his lip in nervousness and soon began to pull the tent up with difficulty.

Yupi

"Uh, yes sir Vasco." Yupi said as she immediately moved to assist him. He had caught her off guard so she was a little shaky as grabbed a rope and began to help him pull the tent up with some difficulty.

After some struggling on the part of her, Vasco, Crow, and some other Carnies who either chose or were forced to help, they got the tent up. She took a step back to appreciate their handiwork with a strong sense of satisfaction.

Crow looked at vasco and yipu as he soon left to find something else to do, as he did he stopped by spirits cage "hi there you ok i-is there anything I can gi-give you to help with your boredom?" He asked wondering if he could give the wolf spirit something to do to entertain his boredom, and give himself something to do as everything was done that he knew of.

As he looked at the spirit he yelped as he heard a whip crack and whined before he turned to see where it had come from, when he did he cried out in pain as his blindfold was taken off his eyes, causing him to stumble backwards and search for it blindly as he whimpered "p-please g-give it back" he begged as he kept looking for it and soon banged his head on the wolfs cage causing him to yelp again and hold his head in pain.

Spirit
Theme: Hunted Down
Spirit tilted his head when the harpy approached his cage, he wasn't very use to the carnies risking injury to check on him. "
I doubt there's anything you can do, it's not like I'm going to be allowed to play fetch or anything. Besides, I don't want to get you in trouble." He replied in perfect English, it had been one of the first tricks he had learned from listening to the humans. He considered giving Crow a warning crack with his vines but one of the trainers beat him to it as he heard the crack of a whip.
Spirit was a little confused when the trainer took Crow's blindfold without warning. He knew the trainer was probably doing his job but taking the blindfold was going to far. Hearing Crow beg for the blindfold made him sigh as several vines snaked their way up the trainer's legs and until they had the man bound. Another vine soon yanked the blindfold from the trainer's hand and brought it into the wolf's cage. "
How badly do you need this thing?" He asked as he examined the blindfold, seeing if their was anything special about it. It looked normal enough so the vine soon held the blindfold up close to Crow's hand.

Crow just whimpered in pain as he held his head from where he had run into spirits cage, as he soon heard spirit ask him why he needed it and felt it touch his hand soon after "i need it to see as i can't stand any kind of light no matter how dim....its partly why my cage is covered in a black cloth that is see through on the outside but is dark inside, and its also kind of why the trainers go inside it with night vision goggles on" he said as he put the blindfold back on and winced as he saw the trainer "h-he is going to hurt you, you know" he said to spirit as he saw the bound trainer then looked at spirit not wanting him to get hurt because he wanted to help the wolf with his boredom.

As he backed away from the man near spirits cage he looked at the wolf then the trainer, bitting his lip he flipped onto the wolf's cage and took off heading to the tent after hearing his name being yelled out across the carnival grounds, he looked back one last time not wanting to leave the wolf alone with the trainer but soon winced and flew off when he was called again more harshly this time.

Martyr

Martyr saw the interactions between the two carnies and the trainer. She couldn't intervene. she knew when to intervene and when to stay silent. When one flew away she stood from her table to follow him. Her cloak fluttered behind her as she walked with purposeful steps, her strides long and even. Her hood stayed low, only revealing her mouth and chin. She intended to keep it that way. Her face was hers alone and no one would lay eyes upon it and live to tell the tale unless the gods themselves willed it.
She stopped before the carni who flew away. Crow was his name. She held out a scarred hand and placed it on his shoulder.
"Crow. I saw what happened back there. I know the way of fate, and it may seem cruel, but everything happens for a reason. I am merely an observer and corrector to all of this. I can only intervene when it is needed. If they mess with you again, call my name and I will help. I do not fear these men as you do."
She offered him a soft smile and dropped her hand.
"You have a life ahead of you, Crow, as do the rest of the beings here."

Vasco

The plague doctor continued his frantic pace after setting up the main tent. He had to patch up some people who got too much on Morgan’s nerves...or they just lingered in his line of sight for too long. Such a temper that man has, he should probably work on that. Though I doubt he ever will. Vasco then notices a lone basket filled with food sitting in the middle of the tent he walked into to check up on people’s progress. Oh dear, has no one fed Spirit yet? Oh, he must feel like he’s starving to death by now. Vasco quickly took the basket and rushed over to Spirit’s cage but he soon stopped in his tracks when he saw a bound trainer.

“What do you think you’re doing, Spirit!?” Vasco shouted out in a cross voice as he dropped the basket and ran toward them.

As crow looked around confused as to who had been calling him he yelped as martyt touched his shoulder, he turned and looked at her tense before calming at her words and nodded slowly "i-um-er-ok t-thank you m-marta?" He said not really remembering her name exactly but felt he was rather close with it "and ok i w-will" he said he ever present stutter annoying him, he soon sighed and sat down, as he heard vasco yell spirits name causing him to wince and look at them "oh no i k-knew this would happen" he whispered as he went over and soon got there as he walked over "Mr.vasco he was h-helping me the t-trainer took my b-blindfold and was going to k-keep it from me, s-spirt just got it back for m-me" he said as he walked up and flinched back from the trainers glare causing him to whimper knowing he would be punished in some way after he was freed.

Dimitri always hated when the carnival came to a stop, not just due to the fact he would be forced to perform, but also because he would be dragged out of his cage and forced to set up their own personal hell. He didn't know how many days he had had to be physically dragged out of his cage the next day for a performance due to just being physically exhausted from setting up. He was one of the larger of the carnies and so took most of the heavy burden of lifting and pulling, but he also had a soft spot for helping other carnies out and so took more than his load of the burden very, very often.

Currently, he was finishing with another task and walking over to the main tent to raise it. Normally he would shift to an elephant and pull it by himself but there seemed to be already pulled up into place. He shrugged his shoulders and glanced around for another task to do when he spotted Vasco running towards Spirit and a bound trainer. The situation seemed to be going in the wrong direction and Dimitri made the decision to help the fellow beast and started walking towards the situation and the cage. He would not make the distance in the time Vasco made it to the cage but he would be right behind the man.

"Vasco, I'm sure he had a reason to do such a thing. Spirit, let him go, please, before you get hurt."

Spirit
Theme: Hunted Down
Spirit flashed a wolfish grin when he heard Crow's concern. "Don't worry, there are very few of these trainers that can actually hurt me." He commented as he watched Crow take off. He turned his attention to the trainer once Crow was out of sight. "Now what to do with you. Maybe you should see what it's like to be blind for a while." He threatened as one of the vines began to grow long thorns and approached the man's eyes.
Spirit's plan to pay the trainer back for his actions was cut short though as Vasco approached. The thorns quickly receded back into the vine as it disappeared back into the ground. "Oh we were just having some fun, weren't we." He explained, laughing when the tied up trainer shook his head. "Well I know I was having fun." He continued as the vines began to unwind from around the man. He grinned once more when he saw Dimitri approaching. "No need to tell me what to do, I was finished playing with him anyway." When the vines finally disappeared back into the earth the trainer glared at Spirit before taking off to let Vasco take care of the wolf. Hearing Crow try to explain what had happened caused him to sigh in defeat. "Alright fine, you got me. Yes I was helping the bird man get his silly blindfold back."

Vasco

One could feel the disappointed anger radiating from Vasco once he stopped in front of spirit. “You bound someone and don’t think I didn’t see what you were doing with that vine. How very rude.” Vasco says his soft voice shifting into a dark tone at the word ‘rude’. The Doctor turns his head toward Dimitri saying him in his now dark tone, ”He may have had a reason to bind the trainer but there is no reason to have been aiming thorned vines at someone’s eyes,” Vasco’s voice lowers,” Give me an excuse to forgive him, give me an excuse to let me see how rude you are.” The doctor’s voice abruptly returns to his normal bright, polite voice, “ Does that mean you desire to share Spirit’s punishment with him? Because if you give me that excuse, I can only assume that is what you desire.”

“Oh come on don’t be that mean.” A voice pipes up, coming from the puppet on Vasco’s shoulder. “At the very least don’t punish Dimitri, he was innocent in this whole ordeal.”

“Tomalyn, please be quiet. Now is not the time for your shenanigans.” Vasco responds with a sigh.

“Nope. Not happening. N. O. P. E.” Tomalyn stubbornly says, crossing its arms.

“Please ignore Tomalyn–HEY!–he’s...rude.” The doctor says, now calm again. “I’m sorry but I’m going to have to ask you to leave Dimitri. Spirit has been a troublemaker so I will now have to give him a punishment.”

Crow just flinched again as spirit called him bird man and whined as there focus was on him now, causing him to shrink in on himself. "I ah s-sorry i h-he um" he said stumbling over his words as he shook in fear of being punished for causing trouble for vasco and the others "i s-sorry i di-didnt mean to cause t-trouble im s-sorry h-he was just p-protecting me" he said in near tears and clearly shaking in terror as he backed away from the clearly pissed off vasco and whimpered his wings clamped to his side showing his fear.

Dimitri
He shifted his feet apart, ready for the anger of the trainer as he unflinchingly kept Vasco's gaze. He was not very intimidated by the voice being raised at him but he was worried about the punishment and keeping his words calm to not escalate the situation. He shifted his eyes slightly to Spirit and for half a second thought of leaving the wolf spirit to his demise on his own but then his morals rose to the surface.

He remembered the days when he was left alone to the mercy of a trainer or a ringmaster. The days when he first was part of his old circus he was confused and angry and had very many starving nights and bruised days. Dimitri shifted his weight forward and lowered his shoulders "We have all had a long trip and a long day setting everything up. We are all at our wits ends and I'm sure that is even worse for Spirit being stuck in that cage day in and day out." He stuffed his hands in his pockets and shrugged, "We all have moments of anger that we do not think before acting. Plus, he was protecting a blinded and in pain friend in need. I see no need in the punishment."

He tried to act nonchalant while keeping his eye out for a whip or a fist that may fly his way.

Lux
The dark haired woman hissed as the rope pulled through her soft hands, causing red burns to appear almost immediately. Her golden eyes narrowed as an expletive slipped from her lips. She flashed a glance to each side of her, hoping no one saw this minor slip up. Lux remained silent, using what little of her powers she had to help her hoist the decent sized tent up. Once it was up, she breathed heavily. "I almost forgot how hard that is without all of my energy." She wiped the sweat off her brow. Instead of sitting down like she very much wanted to, the black fluffy ears perked to a situation happening close by. She maneuvered herself behind a cart just feet away from the other carnies, watching intently.

Once they stopped Maria was let out of her cage and was told to go help set things up. She stood up and walked out of the cage and stood there and looked around. She was wearing a plan black sleeveless dress, barefooted and cross necklace. Whenever she got nervous she would grab on to it. She grabbed on to it and looked around. Maria didn't know where to really start but if she stood there to long she'd get in trouble. Looked like though the decision was going to be made for her. One of the trainers named Adam called her over and she obeyed. She walked over to him and kept her head down with her hair covering her face. Once she made it over to him Adam was sitting on a box with a whip in hand. She also noticed the commotion going on behind him and wondered why he was ignoring it. Either that or he was just really not paying attention. She stopped in front of him and he looked up and smirked. He then stood up and crossed his arms. "Alright listen freak I need you to move those crates and boxes over here." He said pointing to the stuff that was near the group making a commotion. She nodded and started to make way over but she felt someone grab her wrist. She turned to see Adam looking at her with amused smiled placed on his face. "Fascinating.....You'd be a knockout if it wasn't for those horns and ugly face of yours." She didn't move she just stood still not bothering to react to his words. She then suddenly felt his hand under her chin and he jerked her face up to look at him. "Hey! At least react when I'm talking to you!" He said as glared at her. Her eyes widen at the sudden move and loudness of his voice. He then smirked. "You know I'd be willing to have some fun with ya as long as you covered that face of yours." Maria pushed him away and took a few steps back. "Haha aww look at that the monster has standards! You better lower those standards sweet cheeks cause that's the best offer your ever going to get with ugly face like that." Continued to laugh and walked off. Her eyes had began to water and she wiped them. She wasn't going to cry....she wasn't going to cry.

She breathed in slowly and then looked over to the group where the boxes were. She didn't want to go over there....to many people.....what if they notice her or try to talk to her. Maria wasn't a mute but she had gone silent. The only time she ever spoke was to sing. People usually got annoyed that she wouldn't speak. Knowing that she will probably get whipped if she didn't do as he said she made her way over there. Once she made it over there she again kept her head down making sure not to look at anybody. When she bent down to pick up one of the crates she noticed the fox girl peaking over watching. Why she was hiding Maria didn't know though she'd love to trade spots with her. Maria went to pick up the crate but it was heavier then she thought. She slowly lifted it up and then glanced around at the rest. Counting the one in her hand she had five to move she just hope the others would ignore as she did her work.

Vasco

Vasco falls silent.

“Oh nononono, are you suicidal!?” Tomalyn shouts at Dimitri for is recklessness. “I didn’t think you were that crazy but shit, seriously!? You could’ve gotten out scot free.”

“How rude...” The trainer mutters in a low voice before his voice completely goes back to normal. “Well it seems both of you must be punished now. I’m very disappointed in you two, I expected better but that means there’s always next time to improve. Spirit you do know harming a trainer is completely against the rules and it’s such an important rule that I’m afraid that this is a cause to give you another branding.”

Vasco turns to Dimitri,” For you, well since tomorrow is show day I think that cataloging every single form you’re capable of would be very beneficial for tomorrow’s and future shows as well. Don’t you think so too?”

Lux
Lux crossed her arms and formed a tight line with her lips. Her mind told her to stay out of it, but alas her heart said otherwise. "Why do I do this to myself?" she muttered under her breath. She wish she could contribute this strain of insanity to the Void. It would make a great excuse for what she was about to do, but nope. This was sanity. She cast a golden glance towards the pink haired girl and put one finger to her lips, signalling for silence. Then she "disappeared" from sight. The truth was that she had just descended into the shadows and hid from plain sight. It was one of the more easier things she could do with the lack of her Ball as it required less mental and physical strain to her body. If anyone was smart enough, like Morgan, they would look down and see her shadow with the rest of them, but who pays attention anyway? She bounced from shadow to shadow that was cast down from the multitude of carts and boxes that surrounded the place. Lux slid past Dimitri, her dark hair slightly brushing against his arm, and stood almost perfectly behind Vasco. She tapped on his shoulder and threw her arm back for one hell of a punch.
