Fantasy The Broken Packs | Wolf Packs | Realistic | Detailed

Tasteless

Boink Bean

backstory
So many years before the one we know now, lived a beautiful pack of unity. These wolves were elegant, thoughtful, powerful, and forgiving. They thrived, often helping any other wolf in need. These wolves never took prey, life, or health for granted.
It was one faithful day that the Alpha pair gave birth to two sons, one a pelt of white, the other a pelt as dark as coal. It didn't take long for the others to notice their striking differences, in appearance and in personality. The others became more uneasy as the two grew, as they would one day have to battle for the alpha position.
The brothers were both kind, powerful, and intelligent. One brother was set on having full power to protect those around him, the other was more planned in his actions, always choosing what he thought was the best.
Soon, the fateful day came. Instinct came into play during the battle, as it always does. The pack watched in horror as the brothers battled from dawn to mid-day, until they both couldn't fight any longer. Unsure of what the outcome was, both brothers were ruled as Alphas yet they were forced to split apart.
The pack was divided as different wolves joined either of the brothers, and when the decision came down to it,
the alpha pair split to be with either of their sons. It was a sorrowful day, yet both packs remained kind to one another for many, many years. Alphas came and went, the legacy of the packs lived on for generation upon generation, and the bond between the packs was never broken.
It wasn't until a disease rampaged through the mountains, many animals were dying off rather quickly. It turned any infected animal into a savage, causing them to turn on kin and to viciously slaughter anything it sees. Soon, a Western messenger wolf was sent to deliver a message to the Eastern pack. The western pack was full of the disease and needed assistance urgently, or they would risk being wiped out. It didn't take long for the Eastern Alpha to deny to request for assistance, and send the messenger back to his dying pack.
The choice was made out of fear for the pack, if the Alpha had allowed his pack to give assistance, he'd be risking the death of his own kin within the pack.

This choice drove a massive wedge between the packs. Western pack was able to kill the infected, and fight off the disease successfully, leaving the pack stronger than ever. It didn't take long for Western wolves to resent the Eastern wolves, tension quickly grew and the packs found themselves turning against one another.
Will they learn to set aside their differences once again? Which will destroy the packs if they cannot, disease or war?

Eastern Stone Pack
Eastern Stone Pack, often referred to as 'Eastern Pack', is located in the east half of the mountains. These wolves are quite thoughtful and caring, typically never turning down anyone in need. They don't hunt more than they need, and often give thanks to their ancestors for every meal and healthy pup.
The camp is made in a bare cave in the side of the mountain, where various smaller caves are used as dens. The Alpha den is decently large, and has a shallow, crystal blue pond in the center. Above the pond, the roof of the den has a crack that exposes the sky above.
Eastern wolves typically prey on rabbits, deer, young elk and very rarely, an elderly moose. These wolves are lean, quick, and incredibly skillful in stealth and endurance.

Western Forest Pack
Western Forest Pack, often referred to as 'Western Pack' is located in the West forests. These wolves are rather hard-headed, and find it difficult to trust others outside of their pack. They are typically seen as greedy, and powerful. They as well thank their ancestors of all good fortune and pleasant seasons.
The camp is located in a decently large clearing, the dens were previous bear dens many seasons before. The alpha den is a massive fallen oak, resting against a massive boulder. The entrance of the den is shielded by various branches and lush foliage.
Western wolves prey upon Deer, Elk, Moose, and if times are hard they will hunt smaller game. Western wolves are decently large in size, specializing in brute force. They lack endurance, and aren't as stealthy, but what they lack in other categories they make up for in strength.

The Disease
When the disease hit the land, it was incredibly terrifying. It made the animals that were infected turn crazy. Blood was the first sign of infection, they'd bleed from the mouth, eyes, ears, everywhere, before they'd turn on any living creature. Many animals were violently slaughtered, their bodies left to rot and decay.
If an animal was infected, you had to kill it. If you didn't, it would kill everything else and infect others. Wolves slaughtered their own kin, and killed defenseless pups. It was horrific, yet the disease was managed and now it is less common to be infected or find an infected animal.
