RULES / OTHER

1) Be polite and respectful. As this is a fairly heavy plot, the characters will for sure get into disagreements. Don't let in-character arguments affect out-of-character discussions.

2) Obey all RPN rules!

3) No god-modding, making OP characters, etc. All major twists that you want to implement should be shared beforehand so that everyone can agree.

4) Character death IS a possibility in the roleplay, especially if you play two characters. If you want that to happen, please let me know beforehand.

5) This is a literate roleplay. I expect detail and at least two paragraphs per reply (can be less in fast-paced scenes).

6) I will not be taking reservations for spots. However, I will accept characters that I find satisfactory once they are finished, so it is still in your best interest to finish your characters quickly. There is no deadline for character sheets - the roleplay will be open until all roles are filled. Two characters max per player.
THE TEAM

THE BODYGUARDS​
These students are expected to be hired by companies or even private families as personal security due to their skill in martial arts and a wide variety of weapons, from knuckledusters to hand axes. They especially excel at close range combat and know how to use basically anything in the vicinity as a weapon if needed. One of them is the #1 ranked student in the senior class, and has been designated as the “leader” of the team.

THE GENIUS​
With the highest IQ of the senior class, eidetic memory, and an uncanny ability to connect the dots and immediately decide a course of action, everyone at GAMES expects Samuel Sano to become a high profile detective in the future. He's also pretty handy with a knife. He is #1’s right hand man.

THE ASSASSINS​
These two excel at taking out their targets efficiently - no mess, no one the wiser. Their weapons of choice are guns, of course. Self-proclaimed sharpshooters are hit or miss (har har) at GAMES. When marksmanship is listed as the student's specialty, they should either be extremely talented and/or extremely versatile due to the fact that most of the other students at GAMES are at least proficient with guns.

THE TECHIE​
Her strongest weapon is her laptop. Sydney Lane spends more time dismantling security systems at GAMES (and playing actual videogames) than actually training, but her knowledge of hacking is sure to prove useful. One of her close friends was Amaya Mikaelson.

THE BOMB SPECIALIST​
Park is known for being a little (or a lot) bomb-crazy, with a love of explosions to rival Michael Bay’s. He knows how to create an explosive with a couple of wires and baking soda. Rather than a sparkle, it’s more of a burnt-out flash in his eyes. When a little manic turns into raging pyromaniac, he needs someone to keep him in check.

THE SPIES​
The spies are compelling actors and masters of disguise. They have high marks in less conventional classes such as Psychology and The Art of Manipulation. They are smooth, charismatic, and able to blend into most situations without pause. Languages and vocal mimicry are among their specialties.

THE DECEASED​
‣ #70, Amaya Mikaelson: Amaya was a well-rounded fighter. She insisted on being at the front of the group in order to be the first to brave their surroundings, not fueled so much by bravery but instead by the desire to keep her teammates safe. She was one of the lower ranked students on the team, but it was clear that the instructors put her with them to make sure the other members cooperated with each other. She was friendly yet stern, and perhaps overbearing to some, but she also cared greatly for the well-being of her teammates. In the end, it was this protectiveness that killed her, as she was the first to trigger the motion-activated trap that gunned her down.

To put it simply, Alex's resting face doesn't look... friendly. All of his features are distinct and masculine: the sunken cheeks, strong jaw, broad shoulders, thick brows. With a shock of coppery red curls and bright blue eyes like shards of stone, he's hard to miss.

Personality_ What Alex has noticed at GAMES is that a lot of people think they know him even before he speaks a word to them. They constantly challenge him, face him with their jaws and shoulders squared like all he wants is to knock them down when in reality, he just wants to get by without any trouble. Attempts to be friendly to everyone backfired in the past, so Alex has resigned himself to being aloof and reserved. He only speaks when spoken to and keeps to himself. The truth is he's a bit of an outcast and would jump at the opportunity to make friends were it not for the less than pleasant experiences that he's had in the past from envious and distrustful peers. It is rare for another student to see him as an equal and not as competition. This isn't to say that Alex hasn't made any friends in his four years at the academy - he's friends with some instructors, a couple of sparring partners, that one genius guy - but opportunities to open up to people have been few and far between.

People who have to work with him in class and during training are surprised to find that Alex is unexpectedly docile and demure. He's never disruptive or disrespectful and follows directions without complaint, even when their instructor tells them to run five laps around the track for being a minute late. He works well in a team because he's not the type of guy who questions authority at every other step like many other students at GAMES. He understands that the only way to get quick results is by working together and doesn't feel vexed or bitter when he isn't in charge or when his position of leadership is taken away from him (as it often is when his teachers realize that it's too easy for people to step all over the position of power they give him).

Alex is a kind, gentle person. But no one expects that, and by this point he usually doesn't let anyone close enough to see that in him. He's constantly on guard whenever he has to talk to strangers and has gotten into his fair share of fights - rarely instigated by him, but still. There are consequences when you beat someone black and blue on campus. He's very, very defensive and has become just as distrustful of the other students as they have become of him.

The reality is that while Alex is strong, he's also weak when you compare him to other students. Weak in unexpected ways. He doesn't know when to let his guard down and when he should keep his walls up. He either trusts too easily or is straight-up obstinate in his lack of faith in others. He's determined, hardworking, and compassionate, but he also lacks conviction and feels wishy-washy on most things. He trains because it's what he's always done, not really because he's working towards a foreseeable goal.

Biography_ What happened was awful, of course, but truthfully Alex was too young to remember much about his parents. He can recall his father's scent, like the smell of old books, and the feel of his mother's hands, warm and soft like worn fabric. He can remember's their voices: his father's expressive and cheerful tone, his mother's thickly accented purr. But the memories of them start to blur together after that.

They were killed in the "worst natural disaster to ever occur in the county," according to the governor. Alex miraculously survived. He was pulled out of his quiet Georgia suburb and taken up north by his uncle. Myles Fitzpatrick was a secretive man, and when asked about what he did for a living, he typically just answered that he was a government employee in some unknown bureau. He became the director of GAMES shortly after gaining custody of Alex.

Alex never really grasped how major-league his uncle's job was until he stepped onto GAMES' campus for the first time. The high ceilinged obstacle courses, sprawling green grounds, and giant training rooms stocked with weapons and equipment would be impressive to anyone, especially to a ten year old. Since Myles had to stay at GAMES for most of the day and didn't want to bother hiring a babysitter, he let Alex hang around the academy every day after school.

Alex made friends with some of the students and the professors, people who thought he was just some cute, blankfaced little kid, maybe one of the instructors' children or a student's little brother. He observed classes and training modules, sparring sessions and labs. He started trying things out himself when the rooms weren't in use. After the Hacking professor berated him harshly for attempting to log into a lab computer, Myles had to step in, and that was when everyone learned that the little boy was not just some kid wandering the premises. Since he was the director's "son" and never damaged anything, the academy staff reluctantly allowed him to have almost total free reign of the academy's facilities.

The more time he spent there, the more the young boy grew to love the academy. It's not the kind of place anyone would think of when they think of "home," but Alex always felt like he was in his element in the training room. In spite of this, attending GAMES was always more of a Plan B than a goal. Alex didn't know what he wanted to do with his life career-wise, and the advice his school counselor kept giving him was to "do something he was good at." So after he graduated high school and still had no concrete plans for his future, he decided that he would apply to GAMES after all. By that point, he was already able to clear a lot of the obstacle courses and use many of the weapons. He easily passed the entrance exams and ranked #1 at the end of his freshman year.

Was it unfair? Yes. Alex had basically gotten years of a head start on his training. But the academy knew this and hadn't offered any alternatives, and no amount of wishing from Alex would make his ranking totally fair when he had such a clear advantage over the other students. Everyone else is well aware of this too. His peers, and even some teachers, openly talk about how Alex's ranking at #1 undermines GAMES' system. "He's good, sure, but not that good." "Nepotism is such a big problem nowadays." "His dad must have planned all of this when he was little." "Cheater."

The Deceased_ Alex feels guilty for disliking Amaya, especially now that she's dead. Amaya, like so many others, thought it was unfair that Alex could get not only a high ranking, but the best rank, just because of his connections. It was pretty clear she believed he was purposefully extorting the academy using his relation to the director. She was in a few of his classes and he thought he could sense benevolent energy from her; however, whenever he tried to start a conversation, she would give very brief and terse answers or excuse herself. She was just another student who didn't trust Alex and invalidated his efforts. But now that he's seen her lifeless body riddled with bullet holes, he feels an intense regret for not taking the lead of the group the way a leader is supposed to. Deep down, in a twisted way, he also feels relieved that he hadn't formed a strong friendship with her the way most of his teammates had.

Misc_ To everyone's knowledge, Alex is the son of one of the GAMES directors. No one really knows anything about his family situation beyond that, and Alex doesn't feel like he needs to share.

Specialties_ (Very arguably) the best student at GAMES currently, it should be obvious that Alex excels at a lot of things. With a concentration in Weapons Study, he knows how to handle anything you could pull off the rack in the academy. Even if he doesn't have access to a traditional weapon, he's extremely resourceful and will find a way to use objects in the room to his advantage. Alex is a third degree black belt and is trained in a mix of karate, taekwondo, aikido, and judo. He will typically only spar with high-ranked Martial Arts concentration students or with instructors because he feels like they're the only challenging opponents available. He's a good shot, especially with a handgun. He's also a great swimmer and has mediocre hacking skills. One thing that’s not really a skill but is still crucial to training is a student’s fitness, and Alex's physical condition is top notch. His stamina, strength, and speed make him a GAMES instructor’s dream.

Weaknesses_ Alex isn't good with large, bulky, and unwieldy guns. He knows how to use a grenade, but he doesn’t have any understanding of explosives beyond 'they go boom and kill people.' He also has an intense fear of fire and is very sensitive to loud noises. He finds it difficult to actually go through with killing someone, whether it be an issue of morality or just plain fear. And unfortunately for him and the rest of the team, his personality is just not really leader material. The sight of blood still makes him squirm.

ivy's means of receiving information for the team
are not as simple of a task as playing a character.
manipulation requires persuasion and strategy,
enough to know when to make her exit as soon as
she has acquired the information that she needs.
when she enters a room that she knows is a threat
to her safety, it takes mere seconds for her to
memorize her surroundings, where every possible
exit is and what items could be used as emergency
weapons. if she can evade outright confrontation,
ivy is quick to blend into crowds, with versatility
being one of her greatest assets. when all else fails,
ivy will turn to displays of torture to receive the
information she needs, and will use fake identities
to ensure that she is never exposed.

to say that ivy is a little broken inside would be an
understatement; she has a lot of holes where a
full heart should be, and they all stem from her
family: her mother, whom she constantly argues
with, her father, who thinks she is nothing but a
bargaining chip, and her younger sister, who more
often than not, acts as if she doesn't even exist.
she fills these holes with flings and one night
stands, pretending that sex can fill the empty void
of love, when it has zero effect in reality. but, by
no means is ivy weak. on the contrary, she is quite
opposite. she masks her sorrow with snarky
remarks and quick comebacks, followed by sweet
smiles and a wink or two, for lying is always easier
than facing her problems, and she is a
wholehearted advocate for running from them.

ivy was never supposed to join games.

born in the capital of west bengal to a prominent figure in the oil and mass communications industry and his housewife, ivy had been given the title of an heiress from before her birth. the family of three moved to new york city when she was an infant, for her father was establishing a new branch to his broadcasting network in the big apple. ivy, who grew up to the sounds of car horns and the smell of filth, has little to no connection with her birthplace, other than the faded photos hidden within scrapbooks.

she remembers vividly the numerous amount of instances where her father had explained to her why he had decided on the abrupt move to the other side of the world, as many had argued even years later that ankush ghoshal had abandoned his oil company. "knowledge is power, indrani. and the ghoshals' strive for power," he would tell her. that sole reasoning was what ankush used to establish the world's most notable broadcasting and journalism network.

for years, she attended the top schools in the city, received prestigious tutoring during the summers, and maintained an influential position in her schools. if you were a student alongside her, there was no possible way to not know ivy's name; her riches and naturally extroverted personality easily kept her at the top of the food chain and flanked by followers and friends. she had the perfect grades, and a love for the theater that brought her achingly close to pursuing a career in acting, were it not for the fact that her future had been set since she was in the womb.

though she'd been diagnosed with psd and her parent's attentions later catered to her younger sister, ivy was content with her hedonistic livelihood. when she entered her teenage years, she found that contentment begin to slip away. she began to have daily arguments with her mother from the smallest of things like what she was eating for breakfast, to bigger issues like her future and the people she spent time with. it didn't help that her sister grew keen on walking all over ivy as if she didn't exist, and her father was far too engrossed in his work. it had gotten to the point where ivy feared for the nature of her family.

luckily, all doubts that she had about her family's chemistry had diminished when her eighteen birthday came around. in celebration of her official becoming of an adult, her parents opened the doors to their home and hosted a prestigious gala. friends from over the years, family from kolkata, and current and future business partners attended, and ivy was as beautiful as ever in a dress that had been specially designed for her. however, the night hadn't been as splendid as she had hoped it would, for her father and a few of his partners had been preoccupied with their own discussions the entire night. the few times ivy would stalk over to ask her father for a dance, she would catch bits of the conversation, only piecing together information regarding an elite military academy. with a lack of interest towards the subject, ivy put hardly a thought to it.

over the course of a single night, ivy's life drastically changed. her father's assistants had pulled her out of her bedroom a few hours following the party, and a few hours before the sun would rise. in mere minutes, she had been forced to get dressed and was shoved into her father's signature limousine. while the particular scene at hand had been a blur, ivy had been able to collect in her haze that her father applied for her to join an elite combat training school called games. the words that he had repeated to her as a child were the final words he told her when she was dropped off at the school, as well as clear instructions to gather as much information of the school as she could and pass it on to him. before the limousine drove away, she could hear him telling his assistants that the information could make him very rich.

joining the school had never been her choice, nor had it been a decision she was aware of. in her freshman year, she had difficulty adjusting to the environment, maintaining a low rank until the end of the year. over the following two years, ivy grew into a perfect spy, using her former passion and love for acting to create a weapon for manipulation, and she quickly rose in the rankings.

while her father's intentions remain unclear to this day, ivy resented him greatly, as well as her mother and sister. none of them had ever bothered to contact her during her time at the school, where she was shaped into a high-ranking spy. long gone was the spoiled princess; in it's place was a skilled soldier struggling to find her place in the world. now a senior in games and struggling with the memory of amaya's dead body, ivy will dedicate herself completely to ensuring the safety of her fellow peers, regardless if none of them trust her.

Murdoc is very much an eccentric soul at his core, like a fifty year-old-man stuck in a twenty three year-old-body. His mind is constantly running at a thousand miles an hour and capturing his attention can be considered quite the accomplishment. Murdoc, when he's not working trying to pull information out, he can act quite reserved and keeps everyone at a safe distance. Murdoc doesn't trust many easily, mainly because of past experiences, and it takes more than a simple conversation to break him out of his shell. Getting past his reservations, Murdoc is quite the sentimental type. He enjoys the smaller things in life and the memories behind the objects, he even goes to the extent of collecting small souvenir to keep the memory very much alive. The male works pretty well within a team, cooperating and working well with others, but it only takes a moment for Murdoc to go with his gut feeling rather than the leader's orders.

Within a working situation, Murdoc has a very charismatic and alluring aura about him. It's almost like a switch in personality, just like his father, and he can certainly keep his cool (for the most of it) and thinks quickly on his feet. He's works off more of his gut feeling rather than logistics sometimes which can lead him to trouble, but Murdoc's stubbornness never lets him back down from a problem or a fight; he has the scars and the crooked nose to prove it. Murdoc appears level-headed during a job and works accordingly to the task at hand, he can easily create stories and spin lies in order to manipulate the situation. Whether it's to pluck the truth out of someone, or just downright manipulate them into what Murdoc needs them to do, it won't break him to know that he's lying to someone. The male keeps his wits about him and always keeps his options neatly open, he's very much willing to adapt to any situation to an extent.

There is a dark side to Murdoc, however, and while it takes a lot to push him to the edge, once he's fired up there's no going back. Sarcasm comes to him naturally and when enraged, his words drip with venom whenever he speaks. Murdoc hardly has a filter when he falls into a quiet anger, his eyes seem to shine a deadly glint and his entire aura changes. His dyslexia is very much a weak spot for him and if someone dare mentions it, let alone use it against him, Murdoc will start to throw rage-filled punches without thinking twice. Very much like his father, Murdoc is a heavy stress-smoker. He's tried to quit his addiction but cut to a middle of an anxiety attack or an extremely focused moment and Murdoc is back to square one with his smoking addiction. Very much fuelled by passion and determination, Murdoc is eccentric as he is reckless and he's very much fuelled by his need -- or spite, depending how others view it -- to do something right for once.

Murdoc's main strength is being adaptable with the situation he's placed in. He can portray different personas that's required for the job and while his brain is running at a million miles an hour, he stays quick-witted and easily improvises if the situation turns sour, manipulating others to push the situation into the way he wants it. His hands work together effortlessly and are quite flexible when it comes to close range fighting and precision. With his flexible fingers, Murdoc is quite handy when it comes to pick-pocketing and snatching things without being noticed. The male is handy with a knife or a dagger rather than a gun as he prefers to be hands on during a fight. Being quite headstrong, Murdoc isn't afraid of much and he's certainly not afraid of spilling a lot of blood, it adds more to the fun in his opinion.

Besides his mentioned dyslexia, it takes a fine eye to notice whenever the edge of his lips twitch ever so slightly whenever he lies. His emotions are easily contained for the most part behind his blank face. Murdoc can't do extravagant back flips or parkour, he's quite agile when it comes to running towards (or away) from danger, he can't flip his way out of trouble. His reserved personality makes it hard for his teammates to trust him and due to his profession needing to be able to tell lies. Murdoc struggles to express what he's truly feeling in the moment and instead of confiding into his teammates, he opts for a sarcastic comment instead. The spy has an average aim when it comes to shooting and only knows the needed basics about guns, he's a more hands-on type of guy and prefers to throw punches or use close range weapons within a fight.

The two didn't interact much -- let alone speak -- during his first year at GAMES. Murdoc was too busy hiding in his room like a hermit to improve his lacking skills that were needed for the higher ranks. It was only the year after that the two started talking during their classes. They certainly didn't have much in common, but after Amaya caught a glance of Murdoc getting frustrated at his theory homework, she struck a deal with him to help. Amaya offered to help with his spelling while he helped with manipulation skils. It was a perfect deal, and for a few months, Murdoc was less grumpy than usual.

Amaya made Murdoc feel validated about his learning disability, making him feel like he was worth something more. It was even her idea to record his thoughts via his phone rather go through the pain of scribbling it down and go through the process of frustration. There was never any romantic feelings from him at least, but pure platonic affection for the girl who saw something more in him. The study lessons came to a quick end once Murdoc watched a hundred bullet enter and leave Amaya's body in a few seconds. It was a terrible wake up call to him about how real everything suddenly was. To say that Murdoc is fuming about his friend death would be an understand, he's absolutely mad.

Born to the CEO of a renowned technology company, Julian Banks was very much riding on his son, Murdoc, to be his prodigy, a tinier version of him that would take over the company one day. Murdoc's mother was never in the picture and after watching 'The Godfather' one too many times, the young boy assumed that she was possibly assassinated. It didn't worry the child too much, it was always Murdoc and his father growing up; well, Murdoc standing ten meters away while his father worked. Julian showed affection towards his son, whether it was genuine or not he could never figure it out, and in front of cameras Julian seemed like the best father in the world. Murdoc was always entertained and taught by the nannies his father always hired whenever he was busy with work. As nice as they were, his academic results were never up to his standards, and Murdoc watched another innocent woman lose her job.

By the age of ten and his ninth nanny, Murdoc was finally diagnosed with dyslexia and his father was furious to say the least. His future heir couldn't decipher the difference between "b" and "d", and thus Murdoc was completely forgotten about. Thrown away like a spoiled brat with a broken toy, his father didn't care, let alone wanted know, what his son was up to. Whether it was receiving his first black eye at twelve or learning how to properly throw a knife at fourteen, Julian wanted nothing to do with his incapable son. While his father was busy playing with gadgets and making money, Murdoc was pretty much free to do whatever he wanted. The growing teenage spent his late nights sitting in empty, abandoned labs his father left behind and fiddled with different pieces of stolen equipment. At the age of fifteen, Murdoc adopted a stray golden retriever he met on the way home and named him Winston. The oldest thing the teen owned in the lab was a tiny portable radio, blasting pop music while he practiced his punches.

Between throwing knives at fabric dummies and the constant fights he found himself in, Murdoc began to collect scars all over his skin. Constantly shooting venomous comments and saying the wrong thing towards thickheaded teenagers, Murdoc would always arrive home with a busted lip and bruised eye. When he heard about GAMES, Murdoc knew he had to go, he needed to be there. It seemed like the perfect place to stay and entertain his need to feel like he's doing something right. With enough convincing and the false belief of it being a special "military school", Julian happily signed the papers to send his son away. Murdoc slotted himself into the academy nicely once he arrived, while he kept to himself, he climbed the ranks over time while improving his skills.

It was his second year at the academy when he decided he wanted to see how his father was doing without him being around, the sentimental and optimistic side that truly believed that there was a chance. The thought that maybe he actually missed him, his only son, floated into his mind and the thought wouldn't leave as much as Murdoc wanted it to. During the Christmas break, Murdoc went home ready to say a quick hello and see his father reaction. However, things became quickly twisted for the young adult. Outside in the snow, he watched from afar with salty tears and an angry heart, wishing he never showed up. On the otherwise of the window pane, his father wore a genuine smile as another woman with red lips and a little girl with blonde locks sat with each other at the table, happily munching on the meal sitting in front of them as Winston wagged his tail. It was clear that Julian moved on, and Murdoc thought he moved on from the pain his father induced, but why did it still sting? Murdoc rushed away with the sound of Winston's barking ringing in his ears.

After that dreadful visit, the young adult became bitter as a lemon and threw himself entirely into the academy's education. His sleep schedule almost became non-existent as he tried desperately to learn his spelling, whether it was the prove it to himself, or to his father, no one could really tell. Behind closed doors, angry tears kept welling up as he tried to fight thought about his worth as a person. He taught himself to keep everyone at a safe distance, where people as tragic as his father couldn't come near him. Even now in his senior year, as much as Murdoc likes to tell people he knows how amazing he is, there's a troubled part of him that tells him otherwise.

Contrasting this, Sydney is hard-working, and incredibly supportive, unafraid to help the people around her when they're in need. From a young age, the girl was attracted by technology. She would play games relentlessly, and as soon as she could walk, she was pulling apart the technology she could get her hands on. And putting it back together. It started with toys, but quickly developed into an adept skill, and her love of technology would only grow. Especially in the absence of her parents - it gave her something to do. Although, they hardly cared, they didn't approve, preferring she would've taken a liking to the arts. The perfect combination with her athletically orientated and academically gifted brother.

The family often moved, and Sydney rarely stayed in one place for more than six months. The hotelier couple always wanted to scout the market and be closer to their business arrangements. This resulted in more isolation for Sydney; often being the new girl and hardly retaining friends, and so her love for technology and games deepened. This led to learning some code, and how to hack, continuing to pull apart and create technology. Teachers noticed her high intellect, especially when it came to her borderline obsession with tech.

Sydney was eight when she first hacked something. It was for fun, and she sat on one of the school's computers accessing their confidential systems and information. And then she was caught. Her parents came to the school, pleading for their forgiveness and promising they'd "reprimand their child for such foolish behavior". They threw some money into the deal, and Sydney walked out of the school hand-in-hand with her mother for the first time in her life.

Nicholas and Thea Lane were not particularly honorable business people, and having an eight-year-old who could already hack into systems at their disposal was more than they could ever hope for. They just wished they'd noticed their young daughter's obvious talents earlier.

Just weeks later, Sydney returned home to state of the art technology, the best her parents' money could buy. They would buy her anything else she wanted, as long as she continued to refine her hacking. Sydney was young, and ecstatic, agreeing eagerly without thought on the consequences. What eight year old would? She enjoyed hacking anyway, and coding, and working with technology. And of course playing video games, which she consistently sinks many hours into it for all her life.

It started small. Hacking her own parents' networks, exposing weaknesses they would then patch or cover. And then she'd try again. This continued for a couple years, in between their consistent relocation. Sydney's skills would grow exponentially, and it was at this point her parents asked her to hack a rival. They wanted her to access their files so they could use information against them in the battle for a promising piece of real estate. After rejecting their request, they threatened to throw her out, taking everything with them. She was only twelve, and so Sydney eventually complied.

It was clearly illegal, but Sydney continued to hack and help her parents "miraculously" pull ahead in the hotel market. By fifteen, Sydney wanted to stop. But her parents made it clear that if she stopped, they'd share her crimes with the world - the sums of money she'd stolen, private information she provided to help in blackmail. The list was rather endless, and so Sydney had no choice but to continue, even if it made that list longer.

The family moved again, and this is where Sydney met her first real friend. Amaya Mikaelson, the girl who smiled. That slight smile meant everything to Sydney, and the two quickly became friends. Sydney looked up to Amaya like a sister, and after weeks of talking to each other, shopping, eating, Sydney had to leave again, which is when she spilled her secret. Amaya held Sydney as she cried out long held tears, and Amaya assured her they'd stay in contact, and that she wouldn't turn Sydney in.

The next few years passed by uneventfully, until Amaya mentioned wanting to attend GAMES. Sydney researched the school, and was quickly convinced. She'd be able to escape her parents and use her skills in a positive way to free herself from guilt. It didn't take much convincing to be allowed to go to the prestigious academy; they thought their daughter would simply come back stronger than before for them.

Sydney didn't plan on going home. Ever.

Sydney had arrived in a new neighborhood, and when she was exploring the streets and stores, she encountered Amaya - the first girl to smile and welcome Sydney, or even notice her, for most of her existence. Amaya was her first real friend, and for the short time Sydney lived there, they spent majority of their time together. She was the supportive sister Sydney needed with her unemotional family, and eventually Sydney confessed to how she was being used. Amaya, despite Sydney's fears, did not turn her in and tried her best to help.

Alas, Sydney had to move again, away from Amaya and she was afraid. The likelihood that she would encounter Amaya again was slim due to her constant moving, however the two kept in touch online. And one day, Amaya brought up GAMES, and expressing her interest in the school. Sydney was sold. She'd get to see Amaya again, and it was somewhere to put her skills to use.

They both got into GAMES for different reasons, and continued to be friends through their positive personalities, which was slightly uncommon among the people at GAMES. Although Amaya made many friends, the two were sure to meet up and spar for practice, since they were both relatively matched in skill to begin with. Sydney's skill increased at a faster rate, but they always met up and laughed and smiled together. Being place on the same team was something neither expected, but both hugged each other tightly with joy.

Though, Sydney supposed, her friendship with Amaya had lasted too long.

Amelia Claire Dumont is a difficult person to gauge, something that she prides herself deeply on. Amelia isn't one to become a clear cut open book, she enjoys the mystery she gives out. Perhaps the details of her intrapersonal and interpersonal life aren't exactly crystal clear but it is obvious to anyone that has spoken to Amelia that she means business.

Amelia is a logical person who has great control over her thoughts and actions. Whenever she becomes involved in something, she gives it her all. Her entire philosophy rests on the foundation desires of helping to protect others and to never give in. Amelia is headstrong and feisty; a serious force to be reckoned with. If you somehow manage to cross Amelia, you'd better watch out. She won't immediately react, she simply watches from the background in order to find the proper time to strike. However, it is not often that Amelia ends up that infuriated. More often than not, Amelia will attempt to figure out what happened: anger makes you unpredictable and grudges will get you shot in the back. Since the beginning of her training, Amelia has shown incredible aptitude in combat and tactics. It is not in dispute that she is an incredibly talented soldier. However, her independence and stubbornness can make Amelia incredibly difficult to work with. She is someone who plans with the group and likes to go off on her own. Her communication skills are excellent but she fights best alone. When in the field, Amelia owns it. She supports her team from a distance, watching for enemies like a hawk searching for prey. However, once she has to work with a partner or even a small task force during a firefight, Amelia's stubbornness impairs her fighting ability. She wants to take over, to lead the group. Amelia is confident in her abilities and the abilities of others, but she doesn't want her teammates getting in her way. The only other person that she trusts to fight immediately by her side is the other assassin.

In her spare time, you will be hard pressed to find Amelia anywhere else but the range or the gym. Amelia loves what she does and dedicates as much time as possible to bettering her abilities. She isn't one to take time to take care of herself mentally or physically, even when she needs it. Amelia will work herself to the bone if it means being better at her job and helping her teammates. She also isn't the type to simply sit down and relax, she always has to be doing something. If you need help, Amelia is right there to assist, especially if it is with combat or guns. Amelia Claire Dumont was born on August 4th in Vancouver, Canada into a small yet incredibly strong military family. Her mother had been a combat medic in the Canadian armed forces before Amelia was born and her father is a fighter pilot in the air force. After Amelia's mother wanted to start a family, she moved to work as a trauma nurse so that she could continue using the skills that she had learned in the military. Amelia's father continued his career as a fighter pilot until Amelia was twelve when he then decided to take a position on base as a flying instructor instead.

Growing up in a military family was hard. Amelia was the only child that her parents ever had, so the pressure was on for her to be good. Amelia was taught from a young age that work ethic and drive is incredibly important. Amelia was at the top of her class in school and was a star player on her school's soccer team. She enjoyed taking karate lessons and going for hikes in nature with her father. Amelia was an active and incredibly smart child, favored by her teachers but never by the other kids. Amelia was often seen as too stuck up or mature to be involved in late night sleepovers or lunchtime gossip and she never really cared. Amelia had her hobbies, school, and a select group of close friends. That was enough from her.

From a rather young age, Amelia was fascinated with the military life; she wanted to be just like her parents. It didn't take much to convince her parents to take her to the range once she turned thirteen to teach her how to shoot. Under the eye of a fantastic instructor, it became clear early on that Amelia had a natural gift for shooting. She held a rifle for the first time as if she had been holding it all her life, knowing the sweet spots and anticipating the recoil before the bullet even left the chamber. Her gift was incredible.

At fourteen, she was recruited on to a junior sharpshooting team. She traveled across Canada participating in competitions and often winning or coming in the top few places. It was at a competition in Halifax that a representative from GAMES approached her, offering her a once in a lifetime opportunity. Of course she had to say yes, but how could she convince her parents to let her go? Honestly, it really didn't take much. Amelia's parents knew that she belonged in the military and they knew that Amelia wanted that too. If she didn't want this, why on earth would she be putting in more hours than ever at the range and taking more advanced classes to show off? They decided to let Amelia join and shortly after, Amelia was on her way to the academy.

Amelia's relationship with Amaya Mikaleson was... a whirlwind to say the least. The two met when Amelia first arrived to GAMES and they became good friends. Amaya respected Amelia's drive to work and wasn't overly clingy or pushy during their friendship. The two often trained together and bounced ideas for tactics off of each other. Amaya was one of the few people that Amelia wanted to spend more time with. It didn't take Amelia long after this to discover that she had romantic feelings for Amaya but refused to act on them. Dating is a big waste of time.

At the beginning of their senior year, the friendship took a turn for the worst. Amelia, with her strong dislike of working with those she actually cares about on an interpersonal level, was furious when she found out that her and her friend would be on the same team. What if something happened to Amaya and Amelia couldn't stop it? What if Amelia got hurt or killed on a mission and Amaya blamed herself for it? She would never forgive herself if something happened to her friend. Amelia worked tooth and nail in order to rank up high enough in order to not be on the same team as Amaya for the examinations, hoping that she would be moved due to her high rank. Amaya questioned Amelia as to why they rarely spoke or hung out anymore. Amelia couldn't bring herself to tell her the truth. After all, how do you tell your friend that you're in love with her and don't want to work with her on the field in case something happens?

After a long year of training, fighting, and arguing with the head people at GAMES, Amelia finally reached what she thought was a desirable rank: #17. She could go no higher due to her trouble with working with others. Amelia was content with this, hoping that the now rather large gap in rank between her and Amaya would mean that they would not have to fight with each other. However, when Amelia checked the updated list of the senior teams, her heart dropped. They were the same. She would have to fight with Amaya.

Amelia became deadly focused, hardly sleeping or resting at all so that she could train more. If she had to fight with Amaya, Amelia might as well be the best she could be in order to protect her. Her friendship with Amaya was quickly crumbling away. Both girls wanted their friendship to remain but Amelia was hyper-focused on the exams and Amaya was much too concerned about Amelia's well being to begin fixing the friendship.

Before the mission that killed Amaya began, the two got into an incredibly heated fight. Amaya was worried about Amelia's health and Amelia was tired of Amaya trying to get in the way of her training. Midway through the fight, Amelia let her long held secret slip. Amaya attempted to console Amelia but Amelia wanted nothing to do with it. She had to focus on the mission and her feelings for Amaya were simply a distraction.

Amelia wasn't even aware of what happened to Amaya immediately. One minute, she was walking calmly behind her friend, still feeling guilty from the fight. The next, Amaya was dead on the ground, her chest riddled with bullet holes. Seeing her frail, beautiful body torn apart and laying cold on the ground in a pool of her own blood caused Amelia to immediately feel numb. She couldn't get the sight out of her mind. Each time she blinked, Amaya's cold, dead face was staring back at her. To say that Amelia took Amaya's death personally is a huge understatement. After taking out the machine guns that tore down Amaya, moving the body, and getting past the initial shock, Amelia swore to take down whoever had killed her friend. Her fierceness intensified tenfold and she began fighting harder than ever before.

Now, while none of those things are 100% untrue, they don't exactly describe her. To really understand her personality, and character, you'd have to understand her past, her present, and her future.

Her past, is what shapes her the most. From the age of 6, she acted years beyond her age. She took care of her mother when all she did was drink, and when the going gets tough, she was always the one to turn to. She is wildly protective of her baby brother, but only because of the incredible love she feels towards him. To those who are deserving of her love, will find someone on their team like no other. If she loves someone, she would tear down the Great Wall of China for them if thats what they wanted. She is incredibly loyal, but only to special people who have been around for her and who are able to deal with her sharp edges. She's almost like a mother in more ways than one, probably because she spent most of her life being the parent to both herself and to her little brother. She's responsible, protective, yet her main fault in that she is quick to judge and she'll hold a grudge like no other. Wrong her in any way, and she'll always remember it. It's like she keeps a permanent tally in many way, or a constantly update pros and cons list. Those she feels have too many cons or not enough pros to be worth keeping around, she'll never let in close.

Now her present and future describes much of how she reacts in day to day life. She has a goal in mind, to find her brother, and those she feels could harm that goal in any way she is quick to push away. She had her fair share of casual friends, especially those who were higher rank so that she could learn from them. On a team, she is wonderful in that she wants to get the job done and get it done right. However, should she feel someone is "dead weight" on team, she will probably take a disliking to them. It's even worse if she feels that someone is a distraction or could keep her from attaining what she wants. Evelyn feels she cannot afford distraction, and it's that feeling that had her push away Amaya from her life. Just as she's determined to find her brother, she was determined to keep Amaya away, even if that meant being completely and utterly rude. More often than not, she would be this way in fear of letting someone into her life who could pose as a threat to her main goal. Her stubbornness and blind determination to her goal would come to tear her apart when Amaya would die, and she would never get the chance to make it right between them.

She was born into a happy home, with both a father and a mother. When she was 5, her little brother Everest Madora was brought in the world. Everything was picture perfect in their little two bedroom white house in the suburbs of San Fransisco. Her father and mother had met in the same company they worked in at Silicon Valley, but when her little brother was born, her mother chose to leave and watch over the kids while pursing her dream of being an author. On the other hand, a year later, her father left that company as well, to work for the successful De Maine family, which had numerous companies by the same name, ranging from pharmaceuticals to tech startups to even weapons manufacturing. They obtained several government contracts and had gained themselves many enemies for sly, shady deals and a lot of under the table business. Their companies all rose to the top far too quickly, and crushed many other companies along their way. They made a a name for themselves, but they were hated more than anything.

Her father worked in the tech startup, but under a much better position than the one he had while at his former. Her family was doing even better than it had when both her parents worked. However, there was a price to pay with this. Her father would come back at odd hours, or not at all, and often young Evelyn would cover her baby brother's ears when her parents started having screaming matches at 2 in the morning. From even such a young age, she always felt it was her job to protect her baby brother, to make sure no harm came to him. She was wildly protective of him, even from her parents when they would scold him for making a mess sometimes.

These fights would continue for months, and her sweet, sweet mother would pick up drinking. Every day, Evelyn was afraid to leave her brother at home when she went to school, worried her mother wouldn't look at for him properly. Her mother probably assumed that Evelyn wouldn't remember having to pick up empty bottles from the floor when she'd get home from school, but she always would. Her perfect family life had started to go wrong, one tiny thing at a time.

One day, her father came home much earlier than he ever had since taking this new job. He grabbed her face in his large warm hands, and started at her with green-brown eyes much like hers and say, "It's time for us to go, Eve." Tears welled in her eyes, afraid of what this meant, and at the same time hoping it would return things to how they used to be. He would go around the house, pulling out their rarely used suitcases and tell them to pack whatever they really couldn't live without, and leave everything else. Her mother and him began shouting, and confused Everest would begin to cry while Evelyn started to gather her things. She would grow her favorite few dresses, a couple shoes, a few toys, as well as a few things for Everest. She held her baby brother and would rock him, waiting for what would happen next.

At some point, the house went silent. Her mother and father held each other tightly, a sight she hadn't seen in years. Then, the harsh sound of a phone ringing broke that silence. That sound would haunt her at night for years to come. Her father would look into her mother's eyes, tears filling them. "I'm sorry for everything, Lillian. I'm sorry for being too late. I love you, and our children, and I always have," he said. He never picked up the phone, let it ringing till it went to voicemail. He kissed his wife, then Evelyn and Everest on the forehead. He gave a soft smile, one that said everything words would have never conveyed, and walked to the door. He looked behind as he turned the knob, as if taking a picture of the sight, and then left. Evelyn would never see him again.

After that day, her mother quit drinking, but she was always on edge. She always hugged her children tightly when they left for school, as if she would never see them again. Evelyn grew anxious too, worried that one day a phone call would come, and her mother would be whisked away as well. Her white suburban home never held the same charm, what once felt warm was always cold. Even though her mother took care of them better, it always felt like there was an ocean between them. She was always looking at the door, and Evelyn felt that there would come a day where she would lose her mother as well.

And, sadly, she was right. At the age of 7, and her brother 4, her mother fell to a strange and quick illness. On a Friday afternoon, Evelyn and her brother would come home from school, and find their mother on the kitchen floor. She had been alive when they found her, but would pass while in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Doctors were puzzled, after all, what would take the life of a woman who was perfectly health in the morning in less than 6 hours? They never found their answer.

With no living or known relatives on either side of the family, Evelyn and her brother would enter foster care. They moved from house to house for a couple years, some being worse than others. Evelyn always took the worst of it. She couldn't let the one person left in her life be taken away from her as well. She wished to protect him from all harm at all times, no matter what that meant. She vowed to him that they would always stay together, but thats a vow she would break.

At the age of 9, and her brother 5, they would be separated. The De Maine family would adopt her baby brother, but not her, as they felt he was still young and her too old. She would cry and cry that day, but she saw the glamorous life they would be able to offer him, and felt it would be selfish of her to force him to stay with her and move through the horrendous foster homes they went through. They would be able to enter him into a good school, and buy him everything he could ever want. So with that, Evelyn was completely alone.

She would never get adopted, instead applying for the Independent Living Program at the age of 16. With that, she was finally on her own. She had her own apartment and a job, and she had one goal. She hoped to gain custody of her brother, and put back what little was left of her family back together. She had wrote him letters throughout the years and sent him pictures, hoping he'd never forget her. However, she never got any back. Evelyn saved up her money to buy a computer, and searched as much about her brother as she possibly could, but neither Everest Madora nor Everest De Maine ever came up with any search results. This would lead her to hire a private investigator.

The first P.I. she hired, came to her with wide eyes and gave her an envelope of even more cash than she had planned on paying him. He refused to continue working on anything concerning the family. The second she would never hear from again, and the third refused up front. However, he was willing to say this. "The only way you will ever find out anything about the De Maine family, or perhaps what happened to your brother, is to find a way into the family," He said in a hushed tone. He slid her a pamphlet, one all about the Grayling Military Academy for Exceptional Students, otherwise known as GAMES, "This is your ticket in. If I were you, this is what I'd do. Either take this chance, or give up, because there is no other way."

Evelyn would go home that day, open her computer, and learn everything there was to find on the internet about GAMES. The thing that stuck out for her was that most students, especially those who were higher ranked, would get picked for "elite apprenticeships in the U.S. government or employment with private companies as soon as their final rankings are released." And what better way to learn about the De Maine family than to be employed by them? She had a new goal now. She was going to get into GAMES, and get herself a high enough ranking to find employment with the De Maine family. As the man had said, this was her ticket in.

For 3 years, from the age of 17 to 20, Evelyn would train. She took every martial arts discipline she could, started her mornings off with 3 mile runs, and spend her nights at the shooting range. Her whole life revolved around making sure she would enter the academy. She would not let herself fail, for everything she had hoped in life, a reunion with her brother, finding out what happened to her father that fateful day, everything would simply become a pipe dream. She was as dedicated as one could be, and with that, she found herself as one of the 100 students who would be accepted into GAMES that year. She was older than most at 20, but at the same time not the oldest, who were about 22. But, that didn't matter to her. All that mattered next for her was to rank high, graduate, and find her baby brother. Nothing else mattered to her nearly as much.

For the next 4 years, she worked herself bloody. Literally. She found an inclination to being an assassin as she felt it suited her needs the most. She would get specialized training in how to quietly and effectively take out the entire family if thats what it came down to, and it would be her key to finding out things she wouldn't be able to otherwise. She needed to be close to the family, there at every meeting, hearing every word, not locked away in some room and sitting at a computer. Plus, considering how infamous the family was and just how many enemies they made in both the business and underground world, she knew they were most likely to want assassins, people to take out their enemies both political and personal. It was a bit ironic to her that she wished for a position where she would kill for them, when she wanted nothing more than to kill them herself. But, her hate for them would need to take a backseat. Perhaps after she finds out what happened to her family, then she'd kill them. In the beginning, they were okay. They met in their second year at games in a marksmanship class. The difference between them was astounding. Amaya wasn't incredibly terrible or anything, but Evelyn had spent years training at a shooting range and the difference between them certainly showed. However, Amaya's personality certainly made up for her lack of skill, and they became quick friends. Evelyn even decided to help her more than once after hours to improve her shot. Their time together after hours at the shooting range, turned into time outside in more social settings. Evelyn couldn't help this feeling that started to arise, and frankly it scared her. At first she ignored it, but it never quite went away. Then, one day, they had a fight. Evelyn couldn't stand to be around her anymore, she couldn't stand the feeling of, well, whatever it was she was feeling towards Amaya. In class, they no longer talked, or even stood by each other anymore. Any contact with each other was harsh, especially on Evelyn's side. She came to GAMES for a reason, and she had a goal. She refused to be distracted by this girl, and those who were once friends, turned enemies. For the third year at games, they only talked when absolutely necessary, and it was far from pleasant. Their fourth year, they no longer shared classes, and Evelyn was quite grateful for that.

So when they ended up on the same time for senior examination, Evelyn was definitely not jumping for joy. She had made eye contact with Amaya that day, who gave a tight smile at her, but Evelyn turned, pretending not to see her. She only had one worry about Amaya being on the team with her. With her low rank, she was quite afraid that she would be dead weight and bring down all of their scores and perhaps even their ranks. However, with the coveted #1 on the time with them, she hoped it would be enough for them to still complete the mission well.

So imagine Evelyn's utter shock when Amaya is the first in the formation, and due to the activates the trap. The sight of her body being hit with real bullets, the splatter of her blood everywhere, it froze her in place. Had the drop of her body not shock her into the reality of the situation, she would have suffered the same fate. In that split second, she took cover, but she could only see that horrid image in her mind. Suddenly, she regretted everything. She regretted that she didn't make things better between them. She regretted that she let her feelings turn their relationship into that. And now, she would never get the chance to make it right. That probably tore her apart more than anything else.

TWENTY-FOUR YEARS AGO the story begins in saitama, japan. sano youta, youngest son of hatsuo and keiko, and younger brother to maiko was born. to this day, samuel doesn’t know exactly why they left japan. it just wasn’t talked about. he’d been four the night of their departure. he remembered vividly the nervous energy shrouding his parents as they briskly packed theirs, his and his older sister’s luggage at 4 a.m. the neon red light of the clock was branded into his memory. he remembered how cold it was as they squeezed themselves into his father’s run-down car. he remembered watching the snowflakes melt on his window as his parents maintained a frantic but hushed conversations from the front. and then nothing. he remembered nothing. exhausted, he’d fallen asleep and woken up in what he assumed was an even bigger car. this time with strangers. some who looked like him and some who looked so foreign. later he learned it’d been an airplane.

they arrived in seattle, washington and established a life there. youta legally became samuel, his sister became julie. it was rough. their apartment was cold and it always rained. samuel grew bored because the kids in the neighborhood wouldn’t play with him since they couldn’t understand him. his english was still very limited, but within a few months he was picking up the language at an extraordinary pace. his teachers called him gifted. noticing how despite the small language barrier, that was getting smaller everyday, he still learned at a faster pace and processed information with greater depth than the other kiddos.

meanwhile his parents opened a small japanese restaurant which kept them very busy. they were rarely home, but it was a necessary sacrifice to achieve their goal of wanting to live comfortably and provide a good life for their kids. without them around, samuel’s sister julie became something like a caretaker to him. despite being a kid too, samuel remembers his sister being wise beyond her 9 years and very independent. he looked up to her a lot and to this day blames himself for what happened to her.

it was a typical rainy day. or so samuel had thought. he and his sister were walking from home to their parent's restaurant, hand in hand, samuel splashing in every large puddle he could just to study the subsequent ripples. julie would yell at him whenever mud would splatter on her pretty pink rain boots. her words never held any heat, however, she loved her baby brother with her whole heart and couldn’t never actually get angry at him. he knew that, probably took advantage of that more than he should have, but he loved her too.

while he was telling her about his day a car with tinted windows pulled up beside them. samuel remembers the mole underneath the man’s eyes, the yellow of his teeth as he smiled and the acrid stench of cigarette smoke that wafted from the car. he told them that he was an uncle, that his parents wanted him to pick up his sister. when his sister seemed skeptical, the man suggested she come into his car and use the phone to call them. once she got in, she never got back out. samuel watched as the car peeled away, leaving him behind in a cloud of exhaust smoke. just like that she was gone.

the way he was scouted by GAMES was unorthodox, to say the least. as a very bored 19-year-old physics major at harvard (the curriculum wasn’t very challenging, he felt like he could be doing something more with his intellect) sam ran an anonymous youtube channel in his spare time where much like buzzfeed unsolved, he solved cold cases. he pieced together connections the feds missed as well as connections they didn't even see, but were glaringly obvious to him. one day his anonymous channel managed to get featured on national news. the feds investigated and the next thing he knew his channel was being credited for solving a crime that had others scratching their heads for years.

the next day he was called to the dean’s office and given the offer to transfer to GAMES. intrigued by the promise of a rewarding challenge and the connections they had to the US government he accepted.

THE DECEASED
the first half of his second year, sam happened to share a class with amaya. at the time she was just a stranger he’d sat next to. they’d never exchanged more than a few words and acknowledging glances. however, one day the two of them somehow managed to mix up their hot cups. they'd both happened to reach for 'their' cups and took a sip. sam grimaced at the unexpected taste of earthy matcha and had swallowed reluctantly. he heard sputtering and made a face as he watched amaya do the opposite and spit the black liquid back into his cup.

she apologized before telling he had terrible taste in coffee. he’d laughed, knowing he couldn’t dispute that. he knew his usual: black coffee with two shots of espresso and 20 sugars was an acquired taste. she promised to buy him a new one, which he didn’t accept at first because really it was no big deal, but amaya was persistent and he was tired plus it was free coffee so he accepted.

they ended up at a nearby cafe. she’d bought him his “disgusting” coffee and in return he bought her a muffin to make it even. they ended up staying and talked for a few hours. somehow they came to an agreement that in exchange for coffee and muffins she’d help him improve his combat skills, as much as she could, and in return he’d help her study for their theory courses. back then his rank was #71 and he was pretty desperate to fix that. the system was rigged. sam hated how his rank was based more heavily on his athleticism versus his intelligence, but amaya assured him she’d help him improve his rank by at least 10. she succeeded.

and thus a friendship blossomed. amaya was one of the few at GAMES he formed a deep connection with. she kept him out of his head and he listened to her because he had felt that as much as she was there for others she could use someone to hear her too sometimes. then naturally, like breathing, he fell for her. how could he not? amaya was a light. one that was snuffed out too soon.

their mission was supposed to proceed smoothly. if anyone were to get hurt, it should have been a few bruises and cuts at worst. not a fucking round of bullets tearing through amaya’s body. samuel watched helplessly as she fell to the ground, unnaturally still. his grasp on reality, tilted. suddenly nothing felt real. did he—did he really just lose another person he cared for? first his sister. now amaya. if only he had just noticed that something was wrong a little bit sooner. he looked away struck with grief, but knew the look of her lifeless eyes would be an image he’d never forget.

the way he was scouted by GAMES was unorthodox, to say the least. as a very bored 19-year-old physics major at harvard (the curriculum wasn’t very challenging, he felt like he could be doing something more with his intellect) sam ran an anonymous youtube channel in his spare time where much like buzzfeed unsolved, he solved cold cases. he pieced together connections the feds missed as well as connections they didn't even see, but were glaringly obvious to him. one day his anonymous channel managed to get featured on national news. the feds investigated and the next thing he knew his channel was being credited for solving a crime that had others scratching their heads for years.

the next day he was called to the dean’s office and given the offer to transfer to GAMES. intrigued by the promise of a rewarding challenge and the connections they had to the US government he accepted.

THE DECEASED
the first half of his second year, sam happened to share a class with amaya. at the time she was just a stranger he’d sat next to. they’d never exchanged more than a few words and acknowledging glances. however, one day the two of them somehow managed to mix up their hot cups. they'd both happened to reach for 'their' cups and took a sip. sam grimaced at the unexpected taste of earthy matcha and had swallowed reluctantly. he heard sputtering and made a face as he watched amaya do the opposite and spit the black liquid back into his cup.

she apologized before telling he had terrible taste in coffee. he’d laughed, knowing he couldn’t dispute that. he knew his usual: black coffee with two shots of espresso and 20 sugars was an acquired taste. she promised to buy him a new one, which he didn’t accept at first because really it was no big deal, but amaya was persistent and he was tired plus it was free coffee so he accepted.

they ended up at a nearby cafe. she’d bought him his “disgusting” coffee and in return he bought her a muffin to make it even. they ended up staying and talked for a few hours. somehow they came to an agreement that in exchange for coffee and muffins she’d help him improve his combat skills, as much as she could, and in return he’d help her study for their theory courses. back then his rank was #71 and he was pretty desperate to fix that. the system was rigged. sam hated how his rank was based more heavily on his athleticism versus his intelligence, but amaya assured him she’d help him improve his rank by at least 10. she succeeded.

and thus a friendship blossomed. amaya was one of the few at GAMES he formed a deep connection with. she kept him out of his head and he listened to her because he had felt that as much as she was there for others she could use someone to hear her too sometimes. then naturally, like breathing, he fell for her. how could he not? amaya was a light. one that was snuffed out too soon.

their mission was supposed to proceed smoothly. if anyone were to get hurt, it should have been a few bruises and cuts at worst. not a fucking round of bullets tearing through amaya’s body. samuel watched helplessly as she fell to the ground, unnaturally still. his grasp on reality, tilted. suddenly nothing felt real. did he—did he really just lose another person he cared for? first his sister. now amaya. if only he had just noticed that something was wrong a little bit sooner. he looked away struck with grief, but knew the look of her lifeless eyes would be an image he’d never forget.

Though his actions aren't always solicited, he prides himself in that they're at least upfront—never with ulterior motives or laced snark. He'll never hint that you've pissed him off; instead, he'll tell you straight to your face you've pissed him off, and you're an asshole while he's at it.

One thing he wishes he could clarify is he doesn't bite unless provoked. He really carries no prejudices, and he prefers being nice—heck, he likes being nice—most of the time. His only condition is you have to give him the same respect. He's the sort of person who returns favours and then some, but on the flip side, returns spite in the same way. He bathes his friends in the warmest light, but shuns his enemies into the deepest dark. Essentially, he embodies the phrase “treat others how you want to be treated.” And well, “talk shit, get hit”.

By far his biggest asset is his integrity. He gets tasks done without hesitation, and many times without concern for his own safety. He sticks by the things he believes in, and even when there are consequences, he does not back down. But it's also due to this rigidity that if he isn't going to take a task, there's no making him. In general however, he's reasonable in his refusals. He just refuses to be a jackass, which is as straightforward as it sounds. While he understands lying is sometimes necessary for the job (don't lie to him though), he hates any action for personal gain and the whole "leave your teammates behind for the greater good" thing. He has perhaps the most basic—and pure—sense of morality. He believes there are “good guys” and there are “bad guys”, and he is definitely a “good guy”. Righteous, yet naive—that is Finn.

With all this, many see him as simple. And while that's true, it would be a misconception that he's stupid. Yes, he isn't good with academics, nor does he place very high in rankings, but he's a lot more capable than most people, and he himself, give him credit for. If anything, Finn is lost potential. Much of his growth is stunted by his pride and close minded nature. He refuses to give in when he probably should and takes things at face value instead of their deeper connotations. Due to his past failures in academics, he has put himself off from trying again, and it is that that is a prime example of his biggest flaw. Also due to his close mindedness, he surrounds himself with like minded individuals (generally lower ranking fighters) which blocks off differing opinions.

His parents were both alcoholics who struggled to keep a job, and though he had siblings, none of them were to be relied on. Thus, he learned early he had to make his own way.

Whether it was with home or school, he always tried his best—key word being tried. Standing in between fights at home more often than not landed him a black eye, and efforts in academia often resulted with failure. The former he learnt to deal with—flesh healed, next time he knew when to duck—but the latter never improved. For some reason, "mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell" just didn't stick in his head the way it did for others. People called him a dumbass and he believed them, but somehow everyone forgot about the time he fixed a car at the age of ten.

Most of his teen years were spent in the wrong crowd—drinking, partying, what have you. He skipped school by day and was a petty criminal by night. He wasn't proud of the person he was, but like many of his peers, it was less he chose this life and more he had no other choices available.

A car accident in his junior year of high school left him hospitalised for well over a month. By the time he recovered, his absences were inexcusable and he faced repeating a year. It wasn't a surprise, but it was a huge annoyance, so he did what any misfit teen would do: he dropped out.

Things took a turn for the worse when he began hanging out with misbehaving adults instead of misbehaving teens. Days blurred together as he always seemed to be drunk or high. It was one summer night when he was lying in a gutter with god-knows-what in his system when a man picked him up off the street. With his vision blurred, Finn thought he saw an angel in the streetlight. This was it, he thought. Time to go to the afterlife. But instead of being told to "walk towards the light," he was told: "Get up, you're better than this." That was the last thing he heard before things went dark.

When he woke, he found himself in his own house with the "angel"—albeit, a little less angelic than before. He introduced him as Dylan, a military man and his older brother. While it was plausible (frankly he never knew all his siblings), Finn had a hard time believing it. After all, just looking at him gave him plenty of reason for doubt. A clean shaven "proper" man? No way he shared the same blood as him. But he must have, because the way he talked about his family, him, was something that couldn't be faked.

That was ultimately the day Finn started considering other options. More research into the military left him entertaining the idea of joining the army. He began applying for part-time jobs to cover basic funds, and as soon as he had enough, he left without looking back. He promised himself the next time he returned, he would be a different man.

Being in the army was nothing like he imagined, but to sum it up, it was a lot worse and a lot better. He never worked so hard before, but at the same time, he never experienced the gratification of success before. He was dispatched off to Afghanistan after a year or two, and it was there he learnt discipline, brotherhood, and most importantly, the importance of moral fibre. Turns out he always had moral fibre, he just didn't know what it was called. The army taught him exactly what it was and gave a name to the things he believed in. He finally felt life had a meaning, and it made sense.

His achievements in Afghanistan caught the eye of his superiors, thus he was given an opportunity once he came back: admission into GAMES. He accepted of course (it was a promotion, right?), and soon began packing his bags once again.

Though he had arrived with confidence, he quickly found out he was but a small fish in a big pond. Not only were most people there gifted beyond belief, but they also trained their whole lives to be there. Even at his best, he only managed to rank #68 out of 100. At this point, he'd be happy with just graduating—just like high school.

the deceased
—Amaya; prior to senior year, Finn had only seen her in training rooms and hallways. They weren't acquaintances, let alone friends, nor were they training partners since they didn't run in the same circles. Thus, it was a surprise she was the one to stick up for him when no one else did.

There had been a fight—a messy one—that ended with a bloodied up guy and bloodied up Finn. It had been in a training room right before class.

When everyone came in, it was clear Finn was the one with his fists raised. There had been silence and then murmuring, but there was only one voice he remembered: "Finn isn't like that."

When he turned, he saw it was her. He thought she must've saw the guy try to tamper with the equipment, but on later reflection, realised there was no way she could have. Since then, he'd wanted to pay her back.

He thought his chance came when they got put into the same group for senior examinations. Boy was he wrong. But that didn't mean he couldn't pay her back. He would make the people who hurt her pay—with their lives. Elaine is a no nonsense kind of person. When she's made a decision, she sticks to it. She will get her shit done, often with little regard for personal sacrifice. She has little respect for people without any work ethic. She doesn't have much tolerance for indecisiveness, preferring to take immediate action. Laziness and dishonesty (when not on a mission) are two of her greatest annoyances. Consequently, Elaine often prefers to work alone, understanding that not everyone has the same work ethic as her.

Elaine has a sharp, fast paced mind and prefers autonomy and self sufficiency because to her, a dependency on others is a great weakness that is prevented by her strong independent streak. She seeks a sense of stability and security, considering it her duty to maintain a stable ship.

Biography
Elaine Georgiana Rauch was born Theodore Jacob Weber to Winifred and Peter Weber. Her father was a stern and powerful man, with a penchant for business and politics. Her mother was steel eyed and ruthless, skillfully cutting others with her words and wrapping the ribbons around her fingers. Her father worked within the government in military powers, and her mother worked as American intelligence. From a very young age, Elaine was placed in high expectations.

When she was young, she learned from her father. She learned lessons of how to bend people with a glance, how to intimidate your foes into submission, and how to pacify them by any means.

She was pushed extensively in school. She needed to excel in every subject, there was no other option. In school, she was always three steps ahead of her classmates. She worked into the late hours of the night on homework and intellect skills on week days, as well as picking up supplementary languages. Though on the weekends, she was physically trained. She trained until she could no longer feel her body, but she continued followed by her own personal Furies.

Elaine lived a very isolated life, until her mother invited her to a soiree. Elaine was thirteen at the time and a "handsome, charming boy," thusly her mother had her accompany to gain the empathy of the attendees as a mother. Elaine took to manipulation that night like a fish to water. Her mother was impressed, when her "son" was able to charm another attendee to revealing her whole life story, even though that was not her own mission. Winifred began to train Elaine in the art of manipulation and charm.

Elaine had never gotten to socialize much with her peers, and as such she yearned for a chance to experience human interaction. She found herself enjoying her parents regiment for once as she was brought from party to party to attempt to charm information out of others.

Elaine became her parents weapon, and she knew. Though, she began to realize it was wrong.

At first, when she talked to kids her age (in missions of course) she viewed them as soft and naive since their parents were so lax to her, yet as she continued to talk her way through missions, she realized that she was the only person with her story. No other child she spoke to had their father douse them with freezing ice water at four a.m. and force them to run laps until they had to get ready for school. No other child's mother systematically invalidated their child's interests until they were solely focused on an objective. None of their parents threatened their child with abandonment for disobeying simple commands. It was a slow burn realization. It tore her walls down brick by brick. From this, Elaine had an epiphany.

She needed to leave.

After her realization, fresh off the age of sixteen, she concocted a plan. She would play nice. Nothing would change. She would even try harder than ever before. She would slowly suggest and groom her parents into trusting her. She convinced them to supply her with cash for missions, so she would be untraceable and prepared for any situation. Elaine convinced them to put in place a trust fund.

Her parents had always wanted her to go to GAMES, and it fit her plan. She spent a year training, studying, and doing everything she could to pass the entrance exams. One of her last pieces of her plans was completed as her parents payed for her enrollment in GAMES. She had breezed through the application process thanks to her final training. Once her parents had wired their charge for her first year through, Elaine asked for a meeting with the admissions councilor, and Elaine was honest for the first time in her life. She told them everything and pleaded for them to help her remove her parents from the equation. Elaine accessed her trust fund to pay for her life at GAMES, but they also assisted her with applying for financial aid followed by a restraining order on her parents. They assisted with her transition costs and provided her therapy, and Elaine devoted herself entirely to the school that had helped her save herself.

And finally, at GAMES, Elaine was free.

Amaya
Elaine had never really had any real friends before coming to GAMES, so it was somewhat of a culture shock to meet new people and have to genuinely care about them. Elaine actually met Amaya through a close combat fighting class. Elaine had been paired up against Amaya first, and wiped her out somewhat quickly. Amaya had become somewhat inconsequential in her mind, until right after class Amaya had ran after her and told her "good job!" Amaya had then shook her hand and simultaneously shook Elaine's worldview.

Elaine then became Amaya's somewhat silent shadow, at first out of a curiosity and need to understand her, but then it developed into a genuine friendship. Amaya softened Elaine's sharp edges, while Elaine attempted to protect Amaya's (in her opinion) entirely too sharp edges. Through hanging out with her new friend, she learned how to let people like you for you, instead of manipulate them into giving themselves up.

Their dynamic was a strange one. Amaya was bubbly and would talk to anyone but Elaine was silent and you were lucky if you could get a yes or no out of her. Elaine discarded her manipulation skills with her fellow students, leading her to become somewhat socially awkward.

Though most of all, Amaya was the first person to really make Elaine feel valid. She was the first person to call Elaine pretty and not handsome. She was the first person invite her to a Girls' Night. She was the first person to braid her hair and the one to take her to get her ears pierced.

Elaine had never had a friend like her.

And one of the first thoughts she had as her friend fell, was that it somehow made sense. Her first thought was that this was the world's way of telling her that she didn't deserve to ever have a friend like her again. Though that was her first thought, a leftover instinct from her childhood. Her second thought was that Amaya would have thought that made no sense. Amaya would have reminder Elaine that she has many friends, other than her. Amaya would have promised her she was worth something.

Her third thought: How dare they?

Personality

Seungeun has the tendency to speak before he thinks, often landing him in situations easily avoided. He's extroverted and nervy, tense even at the best of times. This leads to a concoction of being energised around people, and then therefore being prompted to word vomit. It doesn't combine well with his aptitude for explosives, and the number of times he's scared himself is higher than he could count on both hands. He enjoys being around people, but tends to talk to them as an excuse to really just talk into the air. People have often walked away from him, only for him to keep talking, narrating every action and thought in his brain without noticing they've left. This isn't malicious or manipulative of course, he just does it, sometimes not even realising himself when he's talking at someone not to them. He doesn't purposefully annoy people, and tries to keep a handle on talking 'so fucking much all the time' as quoted from one such irritated individual, but sometimes just can't. But all that excess energy seems to melt away in stressful adrenaline filled moments, where his brain finally has a reason to run as fast as it can, no need to siphon it into anything else other than the solution. He's good at thinking of solutions on the spot, those solutions being explosives. He's the type to not study in class, and scrape by on the tests, but exceed expectations in extracurriculars. If it doesn't interest him he won't really be able to muster up the strength of will to do it.

He likes working with people that he can bounce ideas off of and get improved ones in return. He doesn't really dislike anyone, but sort of knows that people dislike him. In group situations he'll try his best to contribute in any way but sometimes his brain jumps ahead two steps before his mouth and he skips explaining some seemingly illogical leaps. This can lead to misunderstandings and confusion. He's always fiddling with something, whether it be loose cables or a pen, too full of energy to sit still. He can trust people a little too easily at times, mistaking simple politeness as an invitation for friendship when oftentimes it isn't. But betrayal isn't something that he won't pick up on, and once he doesn't trust you, it's hard to gain that implicit respect back. He thinks with his heart first and his brain second, resulting in making a lot of things quite personal when they aren't, and an inability to take a step back and look at a bigger picture, instead on microscope mode the whole time.


Biography

Seungeun had always liked the practical parts of chemistry way more than the theory, ever since his parents had enrolled him in an extracurricular experiment based chemistry class of sorts. Of course he knew why the theory was necessary, to enhance all the experiments blah blah, but he wished that the ratio could be higher of experiments to note taking in his regular school classes. It also didn't help that what he wanted to do precisely contradicted all of the lab rules he'd ever had hammered into his brain. Needless to say, he ended up in quite dangerous situations sometimes with either accidentally setting something on fire with a bunsen burner, or an explosion of glass. He was barely allowed to take chemistry in his final year and had to sit out of some practicals entirely.

So the opportunity to enter a course where making explosions was kind of required seemed like a pretty good deal. Seungeun was approached after making a particularly daring science fair board of detailing different levels of explosions and what kind of reactions could be manipulated in what ways. It had gotten him suspended, an article in the paper and an embossed letter in the mail. It was that or go and study a useless degree in mechanical engineering and get a job as a weapons engineer, likely starting at the bottomfeeder level of desk work. It was an easy choice. He tends not to think of the damage of his explosives, focusing more on the fevered rush of creation before the satisfying bitter-sweetness of explosion. Explosion being simultaneously the end goal and something that destroys either minutes or hours of work in one quick bang. Past that, he didn't really give it space it his already chock-full brain. He chalked it up to the aftermath never really being interesting, but others could say he just didn't like responsibility. It wouldn't be a lie. The creation of bombs wasn't the only thing he'd learn in his classes anyway. The defusing, taking apart, dissecting other people work. That was fun too. He liked the rush of adrenaline, the knowledge that one wrong move could be fatal in the field, that it was on him for those brief moments, that he was fucking important. It was a bit heady sometimes.

His home life wasn't really abnormal, just parents who often worked hours that were too long and trusted their kid a little too much to stay at home and occupied. He wouldn't do anything inside the house, but it gave him the space to think and keep thinking, getting caught up in his own head a little too much for someone who should know how to be a functioning human. It wasn't too much of a leap to say they kind of crossed over from family to being people who lived together and occasionally spoke. So therefore, it also wasn't too much of a leap to send him off to some distant school. His family wasn't rich rich but they certainly had money, more than enough to send him over to the academy and cover all necessary fees. They had more than enough for Seungeun to indulge in his hobby of explosives at least.

Seungeun didn't start any fights in school, but tended to get in them anyway, from either pissing someone off with the wrong word-wrong timing, or from riling them up out of just...curiousity. He still never expected it whenever he was punched. Lean as he was, most of the time a physical hit took him straight out, at least before he knew anything about defending himself. His lack of interest in the acutally act of being punched didn't tend to deter people. In fact, it probably made it somewhat cathartic. It really, really wasn't like Seungeun ever went looking for fights though. He just didn't realise when situations escalated to the point of violence. But his lack of fighting skill put him somewhat behind in the basic combat portions of the academy, with no knowledge of even his center of balance. This brought down his rank, even as he was talented in his specialised classes, without the combat exam marks, he wouldn't be able to move up very far. Seungeun didn't lose too much sleep on ranks, knowing what he was good at was enough.

The Deceased
Amaya Mikaelson wasn't Seungeun's closest friend, but she wasn't not a friend either. She was the kind of person that you'd think would be awkward to hang out alone with, but actually wasn't. Besides, they got along well in terms of rank, even if Seungeun didn't care much about that. He knew he woulnd't be very far up with abysmal physcial combat skills but...he had the basics down and he was good at his desired speciality so he didn't really care what number he was at all. Anyway, they were both definitely not the top students of the academy, but not doing too badly for themselves either. She offered to help him quite a lot in the hand to hand sessions, which he was 99% sure was just pity at watching him flop around like a dying fish. He still wasn't the best even now, or knew at all where his limbs were at any given time but he could swing a good punch if needed, and shoot a gun...relatively accurately. She seemed to like seeing his experiments, watching all of the shaky video recordings of him testing out compounds, and he'd always reciprocate in turn, whenever she told him about her thoughts on new combat strategies, new field work ideas, different improvements on minimising risk on all members of strike teams. They were at the level of close where they knew each other, but none of the social circles that the other two inhabited, which was to say, very different social circles. So it was a space for neutral advice, with only the context they made and advice that was given with only the information necessary. Amaya was a good person for him to approach to cool down and clear his head before he went and did something rash, which was again very often. She also helped translate his sometimes incomprehensible sprawling sentences, pinning down what it was he was trying to say but couldn't.

So when he saw her get shot, so many times that it was inhumane, just a kill for the sake of killing, he couldn't process it. Her warm eyes and hands with rough calluses that had helped him so often, that would never move again...it was only then when he realised how closely he really regarded her, as one of his friends, as someone he knew would have his back. He looked at her dead body and for once in his life wanted to implode, wanted the pit in his stomach to suck him in, for him to be able to not fucking think anymore.

But that wouldn't help her. So the quickly growing pit of his stomach ceased, and was replaced with white hot anger, incomprehension at how someone could justify murdering someone who hadn't deserved it all, had deserved it the least out of all of them. Besides there was no one to stop him anymore, from burning the whole fucking building to the ground.

Personality:Soo Min could be described as a lone wolf, she prefers to be alone rather than being with people since she finds unnecessary to have someone close since they would only make you weak and emotional.

She is a closed person that prefers avoiding people in general and tries to push them away, she is known for her cold personality and sarcastic comments she doesn't care about what anyone thinks about her.

BACKGROUND -

"My life, my love, my drive, it came from pain”

Theirstory: Soo Min was born into a wealthy family and she thought she had her life solved just by living a luxurious life and not worrying about the consequences of her actions in other words Soo Min was a spoilt child while growing up that had everything.

Or at least that's what she thought when she turned 18, her life turn upside down when she found out that all the money her father had come from money laundering and that more than one person was going for the head of her father. Until one day when she came back and found her parents were murdered leaving her alone and losing everything she once took for granted.

That's why she decided to join GAMES out of anger and wanting to revenge the death of her parents and she wouldn't stop until the person that killed her parents is murder on her own hands. This mindset made her excel during her first year making her one of the tops ranked in GAMES but her personality problems and her lack of caring for other people got her in trouble and she went down the rank to her actual spot.

The deceased: Her relationship with Amaya was like oil and water, they didn't have problems with each other but her personalities were completely different so they never got closer although Soo Min saw Amaya during their training sessions their difference in rank and Soo Min not wanting to get close to anyone didn't help that much.

She didn't fight the girl when she decided she wanted to be at the front knowing that Amaya was one of the lowest ranked in the team, even if they had to work as a group for Soo Min everyone needed to take care of themselves and not having someone to play the hero for them but as she didn't get in Soo Min way she wouldn't argue with her.

And in fact, Soo Min was right they didn't need a hero to protect them even if Amaya's intentions were good her feelings were the reason that caused her death, even if she wasn't a stranger to seeing a dead body, it shook a nerve inside her since she remembered the day she found the dead body of her parents, and she hated herself for that she didn't need to start being weak when her life was at risk at the end Amaya caused more internal trouble in Soo Min that she would like to admit and she was not happy about it, now she not only had to take care of herself she needed to keep her composure otherwise, she would break in front of all these people.
