This is fantasy made with sci-fi so I am putting it here.
3016: Self genetic modification has become common place, people start looking like whatever they like.
3016: The creation of Wizard Net, a huge amount of nanobots released into the atmosphere, these are used to perform various tasks, be in household, work or even war.
3412: World War 4 begins, with the use of Wizard Net and genetic engineering it is the longest bloodiest war in recorded history.
3618: The end of the Long War. But not because peace, but for the opposite, all societies have been destroyed, people are beginning to forget the time before the war, and mankind’s great technology has been lost.
3800: Society has completely collapsed, there is no technology and the time before is blank.
4000: The genetic engineering lead to the creation of separate races ruling the earth, many people had willingly became mock fantasy creatures such as Dwarfs or Elves, with Wizard Net still functioning the world has become one from a fantasy setting.
4500: In the lands scared by nuclear warfare and over use of Wizard Net, the Demon race is born.
Over absorption of Wizard Net bots can lead to organism becoming ‘imprinted’ with spells allowing them to use them at will. Imprints can be passed down genetically. Magical life forms are born this way.
