Try again, always.
You’re seeking something. A weapon, a tool, repairs, it matters not, only that it has brought you to this place, a remote village in the black foilgrass lands of Oynxia, the Eighth Realm. As you pass through it, your ears ringing in time to a nearing rhythmic metallic clang, the buildings stand, stone and dry and starkly dull compared to the perpetually-yellow forests you emerged from. The village is seemingly abandoned, but there is one structure that still burns from a light within; you find your eyes drawn to it. A smithy.
It juts into the cyan sky, a carved mass of a structure, the cosmically-distant curved edges of the Seventh Realm visible in the sky behind it. The blocks of dark stone fit together with the perfection of a master craftsman, and the metal used to make the windows and fittings on the door is expertly worked bronze. As you approach, there is no sign hanging above the taller-than usual door, nothing commercial to proclaim its purpose, but you can already smell the awesome stench of smelting ore, and can see the column of coal smoke reaching like a black hand into the sky. And then the sound you heard earlier resumes; the beating of a hammer. This is the place you’re seeking. The Autumn Forge.
Before you can make a move to indicate your presence on the metal-bound door, the sound stops. The door opens, and out steps a huge, dark-skinned Machean man wearing only a pair of dark trousers, exposing the glowing blue leylines that twist over and encircle his broad chest and bald head. In one hand, he holds a large blacksmith hammer, simple in design save for one detail; the sigil of a falling leaf on the cover of a book. He is Maxim, the Steel Expositor, and he looks at you with a solemn evaluation, muted azure eyes regarding you from under thick, wire-wrought brows. Then, in a voice like the rumble of hell bearings in an infernal machine, he speaks. “Well? Do you have a job for me?”

Welcome to the Autumn Forge RP!
- This is an adventure/exploration RPG centered around the craft of fantasy blacksmithing and enchanting. In it, you'll explore the Nine and Half Realms with a mysterious and storied craftsman, learn more about magic and the history of nations and realms, and experience an expansive, living world!
- First, the man himself; Maxim will take any crafting or enchanting-related job. These jobs can be as simple as repairing your father’s heirloom sword (less than ten RP exchanges) to as complex as an adventure to retrieve a night shingle from the undercurrent of the Extant Plane of Denial to craft a piece of legendary armor. (Longform RP, thought I will try to keep it shorter if there are others in line)
If a material or enchantment process is rare and he does not have it, Maxim is willing to travel with the player to retrieve it. He is far less interested in monetary compensation, and more in the experience that doing the job provides. - Secondly, me! I’m Ironhand, and I have over ten years of writing experience, but am relatively new to RP and group RP, so we’ll see how this goes. I’ll try my best to make sure players have a fun time.
- This RP is very character-driven; there’s no concrete antagonists or specific game-like goals to achieve, other than what the player brings to the table. Much like in DnD, I facilitate good stories but cannot drive them all by myself; the more you invest in the narrative stakes of your character, the more you will get out of it. Some example contracts may include the repair of a beloved family treasure, the retrieving of a rare material to forge a new weapon, a request for a unique enchantment, or a trip to visit an expert outside of Maxim’s discipline.
- To start, I’m only going to maintain three concurrent “contracts”, or the amount of customer (player) groups at any given time.
- The world will be gradually explored by you, the players, and as things are discovered, they are added or revealed in a communal worldbuilding page so that future players have more information to draw from and build their characters with.
- Like the knowledge, NPCs with specific skillsets can also be discovered! Some of them may even be willing to join Autumn Village, beginning work to make it livable again.
- “World is Mine” -so said a certain blue-haired leek lover. While I am excited to explore these realms and their denizens with my players, this is my beloved world, years in the making. Please don’t steal my ideas, but if you’re inspired by something, I can’t stop you, so give it the old copyright cleanse!
- I prefer semi-lit RP, with relatively fast response times. (Within a few days would be great).
- Players forming groups to travel together is encouraged, and can be as a new party or as an existing one that shares the same goal. The more the merrier, and saves me a bit of work as Maxim.
- Ghosting is ok! Just know that if you’re AFK for long enough without communication (a week or so), your slot might get taken.
- While I will definitely be doing research, please don’t expect my descriptions of smithing and metalworking to be completely accurate; I’m a fantasy writer, not a blacksmith myself.
- Even though I’ll be hosting on Discord, I’ll be following the RPnation mature themes rules over there as well, and I would kindly ask that all potential players do as well.
- If you want to be a player, reach out via PMs and I can give you the Discord link! You can also express interest as a reply to this posting so that new customers can know how much of a line to expect.
- A static and unexplored lore document has been included here! There is a seperate link on the discord to the living document which will be revealed as characters discover things naturally.
