No lights please
When mankind made it to the stars at first they found it empty and without much to discover. Yet that was for two reasons, we were to primitive to know what to look for, and likewise to primitive for others to find us. Sure we had some run-ins with extraterrestrials while we were on stuck on earth from time to time, but they were mainly tourists or travelers passing by and few believed their tales or murderous primates who despite killing each other in droves were somehow able to form a society, it seemed contradictory to most intelligent lifeforms. While many humans in the 21st century believed we would one day grow free of this pesky aspect of human nature as we spread to the stars, they were sadly mistaken.
When man finally discovered Warp travel we found that we were far from alone in the universe. As soon as our first warp drive kicked up it gave off a special type of energy that we were able to detect, eventually they turned this detection towards the empty abyss of space and found it full of light. Mankind rushed to launch warp capable vessels towards the other inhabited worlds but would be sorely disappointed to find that every attempt to connect with other species was met with hostility. So mankind settled with laying colonies on uninhabited worlds and terraforming them into lush garden worlds. For a time things were wonderful and from the discovery of warp travel in the year 2209 to the peak of human colonization in the year 2977 was deemed mankind’s golden age as it was full of technological development, philosophical progress, the end of the ages of scarcity and the single largest boom in human population. Mankind sat at a population of 6e+15 or six thousand Million Million people...around one million times the number of people we have today.
Yet that Golden age of man came crashing to an end as man discovered the reason for other species hostility towards them. The Zetinian species, or alien Greys as we earthlings used to call them, were the dominant life form in the galaxy and had formed many bonds with other worlds, eventually growing that into a massive multi species empire. Yet they were among the few species who knew of the Humans having had many reports on them from passing Zetinian travelers. Knowing mankind’s violent nature and superstitious illogical beliefs they deemed humanity as a threat to life in their multi galactic empire and made sure no species would allow a human presence within their territorial space. The golden age came to skidding halt as half a dozen planets were conquered by the Zetinian Coalition and their populations were executed with no ransom or warning. Fourty three billion lives were lost in the single largest tragedy in human history.
Just like the Zetinian coalition had freed the beast, mankind launched a war against the coalition, while they were not quite as technologically advanced, mankind had numbers and industrialized worlds, enough of both to really shock the coalition. Massive fleets of millions of vessels met on a variety of fronts and the sheer amount of lives lost in the cosmos was enough to create lasting effects within the universe. A lone colony of humans on planet Vortis were able to notice the terrible effects, enough different species had perished to form a sort of psychic plague that began to spread through the coalition and mankind known as the Blood Rage. This odd psychological infection would spread through a population and spur it into violence and rage. Usually resulting in the bloody end of entire planets.
Between the War and the Bloodrage Neither the Human worlds, nor the worlds of the Coalition could hold out for long and by the 40th century both forces had all but collapsed. The Zetinian homeworld and central network of the coalition had been ground to a mere cloud of rubble by an endless onslaught of human warships, meanwhile the earth system, including Mars, Venus, and the moons of Jupiter, blew each other into cosmic dust after becoming infected by the Bloodrage. Soon both empires would collapse, communications would cease and the universe would fall into a dark age that would last for millennia.
None was sure how long this era of darkness lasted but eventually it would come to an end. Civilizations would once again reach for the stars and the tales of the fall of their once great empires would persist with them and eventually they would piece together a kind of universal order of planets. This universal order of worlds came to call itself the Federation of Free Worlds, and would grow exponentially however it faces opposition in many forms. Some civilizations had been more heavily hit by the darkness than others, while some actually grew and developed in the darkness becoming some of the strongest civilizations in the universe. Among them being the humans from the Planet Vortis who have taken to calling themselves Vortinites. They join the Federation and aide in exploration with their metaphysical psychic technology but do so only as a means to warn the universe, claiming that the cosmos has not yet faced the consequences of the era of blood, and that they can only survive the coming storm by working together.
(Hello you guys, today I’m submitting a
Space exploration story akin to Star Trek but with a bit more focus on the general idea of uniting the universe. We will be playing as the Crew of a lovely ship known as the Fenris.
the Fenris is a large carrier class starfighter that has everything from science labs and a hanger, to movie theatres and a Gym. Being the size of a small city It can take a crew of 1,100 to operate and that can be cut down to 500 with proper automation and A.I. It can hold up to 200 starfighters, however it usually will only have 80 or so to leave room for cargo vessels, transport vessels, a orbit deployable field base, and A large stealth cruiser. It has a whole lot of room within it that can be used for nearly anything, but if fully converted to hold people it can comfortably hold up to four million people, though it cannot do so for long as the resources needed to sustain such a large number for longer than a day would require a whole other two Fenris to carry.
the fighters are highly customizable as each pilot can develop their own starfighter and are actively encouraged to do so. Some aliens have better reflexes and can make sharper turns making them perfect for the more mobile fighters, while others are a bit more sturdy and require much less life support systems allowing them to carry more weapons into combat. The important thing is to find a balance.
i will be seeking a captain, a chief medical officer, a chief engineer, a Xeno linguistics specialist, a navigation A.I, a Military chief officer, and basically any other roles you can think of. However near in mind the Captain of this vessel will have the annoying responsibility of Answering to and being the liaison between his crew and the financiers of this little project, who are a pair of Vortinite Siblings named Lyra and Leon both of whom can be a bit...eccentric and worse both will be on this ship. If you have any questions of suggestions don’t hesitate to ask I’ll be glad to answer and or give my opinion.
