an idea I have... suppose a solar managed to sneak into the realm and get direct access to Regent fokuf.
Using education charms... along with social charms... (most likely with the solar having at least a few allies in the dynasty to go unnoticed this long...)
could a solar make fokuf a competent and moral regent with such charms.... do you think it would benifet creation or do you think the great houses would kill him if their figurehead became less pliable.
You could get his skills to 4 and improve key virtues and completely rearrange his motivations and intimacies. but that would not make him an effective regent. In order to be effective you would also need to get him the necessary charms, without those he would change from a weak ruler with no idea what is happening to a weak ruler that tries to do the right thing but is unable to ever make anything happen.
However it would be easier for a solar to alter the current regent to fit his needs than to replace him, a night cast could gain access to the regent with moderate difficulty, with the right spells you and a tuft of his hair (acquired by said night) the influence can continue from the other side of creation.
I think Fokuf is just the wrong man for the job, full stop. He doesn't have the personality for it. If he did, they wouldn't have made him Regent in the first place. You would need to improve his political acumen to a huge degree. The Empress was Empress in part because she had the Defense Grid, and possibly the Mantle of Brigid, but she also had the devious mind needed to run the Realm. Without that, the rest of it doesn't work so well. She had to play all of the Houses against one another, as well as deal with plots against her, to say nothing of all the outside pressures facing her. If the Solar was there to hold his hand, it might be able to work, but I think that would be a very risky proposition for said Solar.
The Solar could definitely improve Fokuf as a Regent, but make him competent and moral? I'm not convinced the two are compatible. And I don't think he has the stones to become either.
I really feel like it's in keeping with the setting to allow Fokuf to be made "good" without just making him anathema. Â It seems like there just really aren't a lot of things that Solars can't do. Â I just don't feel like it would be all that tough to properly "educate" him. Â I believe some of the books indicate Fokuf is smarter than most people seem to think. Â It probably wouldn't be all that hard to make him capable of governing the realm well, but making him moral sounds a little stickier.
Also, frankly, Fokuf doesn't have the power needed to rule the Realm. 4s aren't going to cut it. The Empress had at least an 8 in Linguistics from what we've got (it's been mentioned she spoke 9 languages...and I doubt any were tribal dialects)...which almost certainly wasn't even one of her favoreds. While having her full skill isn't necessarilly completely a requirement to take her place...merelly being very skilled for a mortal isn't going to cut it. The Regent will have to deal with exalts like Mnemon, Cathak Cainan and so forth, just within the Realm, onld exalts with significant power, both personally, and socially. A 4 in all the appropriate skills won't be enough to rule the Realm effectivelly.
If you want to improve someone who has a chance for the throne, that might be more viable...though a better option might be, say, convincing Cathak Cainan that not all Anathema need to die, while getting him a Peach of Immortality, or helping the Roseblack get more support, and convincing her that working with Anathema  is acceptable (possibly easier than changing an old man like Cainan's mind...he's likely going to be able to ignore you with relative ease for the rest of his remaining lifespan) but she's young...perhaps too young. I doubt you'll be able to get Mnemon to be moral...and getting her to stop hating Anathema is going to be nigh impossible. Sure, she might work with you (like with the one Abyssal in one of the chapter fics), but there will be plans to off you as soon as you're no longer useful...and she'll also have the charms to shrug off your social attacks until you've got more essence than her...something that's not going to be happening anytime soon.
Now, you might help support an unknown, or a candidate like V'neef, who is young herself, but at least has the backing of a house (if a very small one), but most such won't have the power necessary to hold the Realm together. Still, a clever enough plan, and a moral and competent individual might be able to achieve the throne. Just...Fokuf is not neceassarilly the best choice.
Fokuf wouldnt become perfect, by any means... but he'd stop auto signing any bill laid out for him, possibly stop his ... Kind of contemplation of the immaculate texts.
Was wondering if power awarding prana would be a good idea, to make him just a little more effective... but asides from his COLLOSSAL XP debt after his education...
It is PROBABLE That some one would be able to detect that type of lingering solar charm on him somehow... and he'd be quickly killed therafer
The key point that you seem to be missing is that Fokuf is where he is because he's a total douchebag. If he were even marginally effective as a leader, they'd kill him. There's no point in improving him.
I guess that would work. I just don't see Kejak taking on that kind of obvious power. And I believe it's been mentioned that he doesn't have much time left. So is he going to plan on killing Tokuf off soon so as to avoid a potential problem? I hope it works well in your story, but I don't know that I'd do that if I were running it.
I would think that Kejak would be too busy running the world to pose as Fokuf. Being regent, I'm sure there's someone in his presence nearly round the clock, which means Kejak would never be able to do anything else than impersonate a moron.
I've been working on that, what with a prime example living with me.
But isn't Fokuf mortal? Â That would cover Kejak kicking off early. Â Puny mortals never live very long. Â And all Kejak has to do is to get updates on the goings on in Yu-Shan, then send out the orders. Â The bosses of the big companies probably don't do a lot of paperwork. Â That's what secretaries are for.
It sounded cool to me and I figured it would work. Â Therefore it was so.
Or it could be the same reason I put the singing slugs from Flushed Away into my game. Â Sheer boredom mixed with silliness. Â They bug the holy fuck out of EM.
What if someone attempts to assassinate Fokuf... Â like, say a Day caste Abyssal or something, all to throw the realm in even more chaos... Â Yet instead of dying, the little bastard exalts as a Solar... Â  Of course, the Assassination attempt would be in the middle of the night, away from anyone else... Â but the exaltation WOULD show up on the Loom of Fate unless some Gold Faction Panzees deem to try to hide it.
Knowing the Bronze, they'd have him offed immediatelly. And a newbie Solar isn't getting out of the Imperial City alive in that case...not if they started in the building holding the most (and many of the more powerful) Dragonblooded in Creation...someone gets to join the corpse club anyway. But, I suppose Mr. Day Caste has caused his chaos. There's also a good chance that Fokuf is a half-caste, even though he's no exalt...as he's mentioned to have been of a distinguished bloodline, though incompetent himself. Considering how easy half-castes are to make, if anything, it's unlikely he isn't such. If that's the case, then he can't become any form of Celestial Exalt.
Hmm... so what if Fokuf is abducted suddenly by a Deathlord, taken into the Labyrinth that night. brought to the brink of death, exalted as a Deathknight, and returned back to his place before anyone even knows he was missing. Â This could theoretically be accomplished due to the variable time-differentials of the Labyrinth. Â And one could reason that a Deathlord could have some control over the flow of time there... Â Now, for a more likely question... why the hell would a Deathlord bother? Â
As far as Bronze faction finding out, I think they'd be more perplexed as to why the Regent's no longer showing up on the Loom of Fate.
