Major Historical Events:
-Nearly one hundred years ago, a group was formed to deal with the numerous rogue mages that seemed to appear across the lands. Known as the Grey Guardsman, their ranks are made up of both the magical and non-magical communities. Their public goal is to bring order to the chaos that occurs throughout the lands of Telvaria, though who knows how an organization with so much power operates away from the public eye? Each Guardsman is outfitted with special magic repellant armor, a supply of shock sticks for stunning, a large maul with various enchantments based upon the users preferences and a "Sniffer." "Sniffers" are magical constructs of obsidian shaped as massive dogs with razor sharp fangs. Each "Sniffer" can detect the presence of magic, and is capable of basic forms of magic. The Council of Five gave them worldwide jurisdiction, though since the Peasant's Revolution, no one knows if that jurisdiction still stands. Those who have asked that question tend to disappear in the night...

-Nearly thirty years ago, magical wellsprings not seen in thousands of years began to resurface across Telvaria, including in the subterranean caverns of the Susrukh. With them came a surge in the birth rate of mages, as well as strange magics and creatures appearing, or perhaps reappearing in the world. Little is known about the purpose of these wells, though some have begun to try, as people always do, to find ways to exploit them. Rogue mages, emboldened by the Peasant's Revolution have begun to tap into these strange wells to craft new and often weird spells in an attempt to twist the world to their own ends. At the same time, a new group of specialists known as alchemists have come to study the wells and begun to adapt some of their properties into their own weird inventions in an attempt to reshape the world.

-Five years ago, the Cult of the Flaming Fist released a creature from the depths known as The Beast to cleanse the world in fire, and start anew. This ancient evil, born of flame and immense hunger attempted to consume all in its path. It ravaged a path across Seshynua until it reached the great Merchant City of Amajj. There, it was stopped by the Ex Manus, though the cost was high. Many lost their lives in the blaze and the chaos, and the great city is still being rebuilt today. There are still dozens listed as missing since that day, though little hope remains for their return. As for the Cult, they were hunted down by members of Xander Grayden's team of spies and thieves who once held the Council of Five in power. Who Grayden works for now is as mysterious as the man himself.

-Once, all the lands came under the protection of the Council of Five. They were a group determined above all to maintain the status quo between nations. Fiery leaders of nations would go missing in the night. Cults and dissident groups were infiltrated and stopped. The world's peace was held together by puppet strings and dogged determination that nothing would change. All of that changed two years ago. A warrior known only as "The Cat" led a revolution and tore down the Council of Five's seat of power. The revolution started in one of the larger kingdoms of Juten and spread until it could not be contained. As for the Five, they were taken, one to each of the major nations to do with as they pleased. Two were executed. As for the other three, only a few know, and they aren't talking. No one knows where "The Cat" disappeared to after the events. Some say he set down his famous club and became a farmer. Others claim he died in the fight to take the Five. All the world knows is that three years have passed, and no one has seen him since.

World's Technology Level:
Telvaria is slowly emerging from what we would equate to our middle ages, only with magical influences. Since the discoveries that have been passed along by the alchemists, there has been a steady march towards better and better technology. Advances in armor and weapons have been the steadiest, but there have also been advances in transportation, architecture and city enhancements, though they have been slower and less prevalent in certain parts of the world. One of the alchemist groups even claimed to have invented something that could soar above the cities and carry a dozen people, though of course such a thing is ludicrous. Mages might fly using their power, but commonfolk? Only possible in dreams, surely.
