Lucky

AngelofMusic AngelofMusic
Robin's reminder of the communicators leads to the wiry, energetic girl practically pouncing on the box and snatching one up. Cradling it, she slipped it into a pocket and looked pleased as punch.

"So, your translator has a hard time with me, does it?" Lucky looked inordinately pleased at Chris' revelation. "It's because I'm a girl. We're mysterious." She waved her fingers in a vaguely spooky fashion in the direction of the winged boy before giving way to bright peals of laughter. "Seriously though, I can call you Chris if Speedy's just too much for you." She settled back on her couch and added, "Though you need a cool codename like Lucky! Maybe Winged Wonder! Or Hummingbird. Or the Gold Galestorm! Chris just lacks a certain 'oomph', you know? It's like the name Carol; It lacks weight. No one's going to be scared when you say 'I am Chris, halt!' You need something cooler."

She watched Chris settle back into a kneeling position, wings half spread, and gave him a frankly admiring look. "Those are gorgeous. You color them yourself? Don't tell me that's natural." When asked for explanations, Lucky just shrugged. "Just tell me which words you need clarity for. Remember that we don't know a lot either. I was walking home to my apartment one day and I wound up here. All I felt was a tingle. Like...goosebumps on your skin. Raised bumps, you know, when you get cold? And then I discovered I wasn't in the reality I'd always been and apparently lots of people from lots of other places make their way here. Very weird and mysterious."

Aram's comments got an amused look from the pink-haired girl. "Local boy, huh? Enjoy it. Might not last too long if it gets worse. Unless we find a way to do something about it, I guess. Though I figure that's what the big groups like the League are up to. We can pick up some of their slack, free them up to focus on solving things while we hold the line. That's what I expected signing up for this, at least. I suppose it's up to Boy Wonder to decide our play."

By the time Aram returns from dropping off the trash, Lucky's already moved on though.

"So...it's Will, right? What's your story?" She peered at his tea-fogged glasses. "You okay in there?"

"Uh, you okay over there?" Lucky called out as Kage left the immediate group to stand off on her own. "Look, if me running my mouth bothers you, speak up. Can't fix what I don't know about."

Kage simply leaned against the door as she shuttered holding herself as her powers started to act up due to her high emotions, causing the shadows to lash out and lights to bust casting darkness in parts of the underground area. As she closed her eyes tight images of her brother laying on the ground bruised and battered entered her mind causing her to scream. "STOP IT LEAVE HIM ALONE" she yelled as all the lights burst at this point as she sobbed silently

Chris glanced up only long enough to acknowledge the movements of the others, before dropping the gaze back to the device. That was until Lucky began to speak again. They looked up, head crocking to the side in a way that had the hair sliding over the other shoulder. The look wasn’t quite the pure concentration anymore. Instead one eyebrow raised faintly. “You speak so fast. Is that another trait of the ‘girl’…” Letting the words trail away, they gave a faint smile, stilling while they waited for the tirade to finish. Not that the amusement was all that appeared. There was some consideration as well. Then a faint hint of surprise crossed through the amber, Chris looking back even as one wing raised enough to display the full pattern. “This coloration is quite drab since I was trying to match the standard guard. Normally they are much more brilliant.” The wing flexed, the primaries spreading out to their full width before the span curled around enough for Chris to trace fingers along the deep red feather tips. “Not that I managed to get all of the color out.”

Shaking their head slightly they flicked the wing, and settled it back across the floor although the general spread was wider, displaying the pattern that had been labeled unimpressive anyway. “Hummingbird is a name that I have been titled with before since I am capable of such flight, so it will work. The rest my main issue is lack of understanding. I wish to know what they mean before accepting them.”

A flicker of motion caught Chris’s attention, the gaze fixing on Will even as Lucky’s attention turned. Probably a good thing, all in all since the previous conversation was dismissed. Even the computer was dismissed as Chris glided to their feet. “What are those?” Chris stopped a moment before actually touching Will, seeming to catch themselves. Not that the hand lowered, nor did the blatant curiosity. “I saw others using them when I was loading the translator. Are they some kind of screen or scanner?”

Some sound that Chris placed only after a moment as a scream had them straightening with the wings sliding shut into the warrior’s stance. Not really a conscious thing, it was still ingrained, the position ensuring that the armored feathers protected anything from behind save for the sliver of spine that was armored and protected by the sword sheath, and the back of the neck and head. Slightly curled forward, the wings protected the shoulders and vitals from a good number of side attacks as well. The sound, and the dousing of the lights around where Kage had wandered off suggested it was something to do with her, although Chris didn’t see anything coming at her, nor did she seem inclined to come at them. Casting an eye up at the overhead lights above them that seemed perfectly fine, Chris released the hold on the sword hilt, looking back to the others to see if they had a specific reaction Chris should be taking.

Confirming that the order of food was on the way, and noting down that he would have to thank Aram for taking out the trash, Robin started for the door with Chris’s bag over one shoulder. That was until the scream cut through the hallway.

Robin slid into the main garage with a birdarang already in hand, ready to drop the bag at any point in time. There was little likelihood that anything would be damaged after all, since Chris had flung it while at full speed in flight without any apparent concern. Instead of a fight, or invasion, or anything like that however, all he saw was most of the group seated on the couch, Chris oddly close to Will for some reason or another that Robin hadn’t seen on the cameras, and Kage off in a pool of darkness on the other side.

The Boy Wonder let out a groan, the weapon disappearing. “We just got those lights put up.” At least it was only in the section that Kage was in, the rest of the systems protected from any kind of backlash. Cyborg’s idea, which while no one had said anything about it, had no doubt come from Raven’s habit and ability with lights when she was upset. That Jinx…no, Lucky, had appeared had only made the precaution more solid in Robin’s mind. He hadn’t expected someone else to try and take them out, especially on forming night. Sighing, he slid the bag from his shoulder. Setting it on the end of the couch he crossed into the darkness. One hand reached out, catching Kage’s shoulder. He didn’t try to pull her up or anything, just squeezing it reassuringly. “Hey. It’ll be alright. Come back over with everyone else. We’re all still getting to know each other, but from now on we’re a team, we don’t let teammates sulk in the dark.”

Will blinks at Lucky before smiling, oddly out of character for him. "I'm all good. Yeah, name's Will. Lucky, right?" He removes his glasses, de-fogging them with his hoodie, then putting them back on. He sips once more, not really paying too much attention to his surrounding. All was good in Will-ville. For once he was one of the calmest in the room. This was a much more manageable Will. Not very good for him, but manageable. Normally Chris venturing so close would cause an absolute conniption fit, but his flight zone had been dramatically impaired. He not only tolerated the almost-touch, rather he invited it.

It took him a minute to realize what Chris was asking about, he guessed Chris had never seen glasses before. Will... oh poor Will. He was born with really shitty eyesight. Near sighted as hell and colorblind. God forbid anyone tell him to differentiate blue from purple. Ah, my glasses? Nah, I just have bad eyesight. I usually wear contacts buuuut time, man. That and contacts were a bitch to get in when sleepy. It's nice actually being able to see things ten feet infront of me. Will groans internally, he realized some people just woke up and could see. What's it like to see for free? Crystal eyes blink before he actually looked the other... man? over. He still had no idea what Chris identified themselves as. Then again, was it really important? Will's dulled state made him far more innocent than his usual self. Usually he was as vulgar and horrible as he could be to get people to leave him alone.

The sudden scream did startle him slightly, imagery in his head whirling around before the drugs stabilized him. For once he was calm. This never happened... ever. The air suddenly condensed, but in his haze, he condensed it a bit too much to the point actual water droplets began forming on nearby surfaces. Luckily it was a false alarm and Will was left kind of wet, due to all that water settling on his skin. And here was was, staring at Chris, listening to Greys Anantomy, sipping tea and just happy. He knew he'd have to clean up all this water eventually, but that was future Will's problem.

Leave me alone I don't want to hurt them you c-can't make me" she said as she muttered similar things even saying that she was a monster and should have died in the lab. As she shook from the memories she tensed as the darkness seemed to form around her covering her bare torso as a sort of cloak as she looked up at Robin her black and white eyes boring into his as the red and blue pupils shrank as if seeing something else then Robin himself. "Who are you" she mumbled more to herself then the boy as she pulled away from him shaking her scars seen by Robin easily "please don't make me hu-hurt them I don't want to hurt them."

The sudden dampness was more surprising to Chris than most else, the eyes widening slightly as they glanced back at the wings. Not that it was with all that much concern. Rather than even start to be waterlogged, the drops were beading up on the feathers and rolling off in the same way that they did on waterfowl. The pale hair had a similar effect happening, water drops scattering as Chris determined the reaction was mostly harmless and shook out their head. The wings followed in something of an unconscious movement as they stepped away from Will in favor of the bag that had been left at the end of the seat. Snapping the wings out to a half furl the moment it was clear to do so the water shed off completely. For a moment the wings were held out in the way, waving slightly back and forth. Then they refolded neatly.

Taking the bag in one hand, Chris knelt to produce the slim rod they had been playing with before. A flick of the wrist and it skittered to the middle of the floor, the lights flashing along the length of it. Not that the being cared. Their focus was more on the bag that after a glance towards the darkness, they opened. Any reaction or emotion at their things having been gone through was carefully hidden away, the mask only breaking in something like relief as they drew the sealed box out. Running light fingers over it, Chris smiled, a tension in the wings releasing so that they sat truly comfortable.

Holding the box close, they looked at Will again. “I have always taken sight as a given. To be unable to see perfectly is death upon my home, the race purged of such ailments long before we had the advancement to fix it.” Their head crocked to the side, amber eyes moving over all of those who were seated on the couch. Not in any sort of malicious way, more curious. “Are you unable to see in the dark as well? Or must spend time switching between the sights?”

Robin knelt, reaching out to curl his arm around her shoulders, pulling her back against him. “Nope, not going to leave.” He didn’t react or flinch, not even showing a hint of fear at the shadows. It wasn’t any worse than he had seen before after all, memories of another flashing through his mind. He shook his head and centered himself in the present. “You aren’t going to hurt anyone, and no one is going to hurt you.” Robin hoped. Chris had been calm so far, seeming more inclined to run than anything else. Will was…calm. It wasn’t a calm that Robin was happy with but for now he wasn’t going to argue. Lucky, actually Lucky and Aram had been doing fantastically. Robin was fully willing to put his faith in them.

Reaching around Kage he started to rise with every intention of bringing Kage with him. “Up you get. Breath. I don’t know if you had a chant like my Raven. If you did go ahead, no one is going to make fun of you.” That much he was sure of. “We are here for each other.” Bending, he caught hold of the mask, keeping it held loosely in case she felt the need to take it from him. “Now, let’s go back where everyone else is. We won’t turn you away.”

Will groans, realizing that he'd just sort of doused Chris and probably Lucky... and maybe Robin and Kage. Depends really on their positioning, he wasn't paying much attention. But he did definitely douse Chris and definitely soaked the couch and floor. He supposes he may have to clean some of that up now. He sheepishly smiles at Chris's sudden movement. "Sorry. Happens if I get startled. Reflex really." Will moves to a bathroom grabbing a good amount of towels, offering one to Chris whilst trying to dry the carpet and couch. The whole water thing was simply urge to defend himself. He condensed the air when any sign of danger arose, and getting it to diffuse back so quickly didn't work... so it just kind of liquefied and stuck to things.

'no one is going to hurt you.' Will's attention split from Chris and the whole water situation to Robin. Just hearing that put him a bit ore to ease about this whole team thing. Will always kept himself so reserved around people, especially any kind of a 'team' he may be on. Truth be known it was shame. Will'd been forced into a very horrific situation, mother's perceived apathy only made it worse and then afterwards he made some rather bad decisions and even here recently he'd been wreaking a fair amount of havoc for pure vengeance on his free time. He was almost certain any virtuous hero would look down their noses at him if they knew. He still said nothing. Rather he stored this information away for later.

His attention turned back to Chris. "Oh damn. So I'd be a dead... Kyote?" He almost asked not sure if the pronunciation was correct or if he used just the wrong word in general. He was drying under the coffee table before hearing Chris's question. "Ah, I have a little trouble with seeing in the dark. I mostly just can't see things very well that are at a distance. They get kind of fuzzy unless I have my classes on or my cont-ACTS!" That last bit was a bit elevated as he'd moved to get up before he was truly out from under the table and smacked the back of his head on the underside. He rubs the back of his head, biting his lip in slight embarrassment. "I can imagine the whole flying thing kind of forced your eyesight to be good."

She looked at him her eyes boring into his eyes seeing past his mask "I-I-" she said unsure of what to even say or do as her white eyes turned black "m-my mask please" she said wrapping her cloak around her tighter even if it was made of shadows she could very easily make it real as she nodded at his words hoping they didn't download.png

Aram still had been calmly drinking in the kitchen, watching everyone else interact. The young male didn't really find any need to interact with them. There was time for that later. Besides, he wasn't keen on talking with so many people at once. He sipped once more as he watched everything unfold. He had already shed his mask and hat, which were now on his backpack that was beside him. There was a sudden scream that came from Kage which Robin quickly tended to. Will seemed to have been startled and caused the air around them to condense and even form water droplets. He wasn't near them so he didn't feel the effects of it - but Chris certainly did, but the alien didn't seem to mind.

The blond adjusted his gloves as he listened. It seemed that Chris's race could clearly see in the night. That would certainly be useful wouldn't it be? He turned back to Kage and Robin. He couldn't hear anything from his position right then and there, but at least Robin seemed to be handling everything well. He only saw Robin, the original one, in missions or when they were on television being filmed while they fought. He didn't know that he had a soft side like this too. Perhaps he saw too little of them - he should have known it. He was human too, after all. He had feelings, emotions. He shook his head. That was his mistake, for sure.

Aram looked at his hands, sparks of dark light appearing. A small smile was on his face as he closed them again and turned back to them. Perhaps it actually wouldn't be too bad here. He wondered who he could train with with these powers. Lucky seemed to be the only one that was close enough in terms of relative power so maybe he should ask her about the usage of her powers. Aram returned to sipping his tea. He was well aware that he was running out but the tea pot was right beside him, so it didn't really bother him.

Chris tilted their head to the side, debating on if they should offer to help with the whole task. It was Will who had caused the incident, although it was curious that he couldn’t simply reverse the process. A question for another time, since Chris was very obviously considering and sizing Will up. “Kyote is a class. Kothar is the breed. All Kothar see well though, no matter the light, as you are correct that impaired sight in flight why such a thing is deadly. Against stone or trees at full speed, a young body will neither win, nor recover. To be anything but full speed before the cities, to show hesitation in what path was taken, was to become prey.” All in all, Chris saw no reason to hide the information. It was a common sense conclusion, and while they had clearly not had the same kind of driving force behind their evolution and perfection, it was entirely probable that at some point the people here had predators.

The being was distracted from reaching down to help move the table out of the way by a soft whistle. A soothing sound to Chris if only because of the familiarity it sounded something like a high pitched bird. A moment later the lights flashed along the device that had been tossed into the open area before the couch and table. With a flare, the streams of light rose up, stretching out to establish their parameters. Chris opened one wing, setting the range at the feathertips, some 4 or 5 feet from the device. It immediately gave another chirp, and brought the map up within the space.

A half sphere, the map remained rather oddly distorted in areas that Chris had not passed through directly. It was also not quite like most of the maps that could be found on earth, it laid out the city in vibrant patterns that were partially see through, along with what almost looked like river currents that cut and wove between the buildings. Some of the architecture under the city had been included as well, Chris giving it an odd considering look. The coloration was off to what an earth map would be with the areas that were blurrier a steady blue grey color and the clear buildings showing in…almost the right colors although some parts had a brilliance to them that indicated wavelengths beyond the human spectrum having been recorded. On the farthest reaches the detailing gave out completely, only a whispered purple darkness marking that the map didn’t know. Now that the full map was up and open, the areas that were a slightly different shade were distinct. One at the base of the display and right at the center showed the most clarity, a brilliant mote marking Chris and the belongings that had come with them. Other patterns of brightness however indicated Lucky, and Robin, and Kage, the later two moving towards them in real time. Farther off, and high up on one of the buildings, two patches shown as brilliantly as Chris, the same hue marking them as being the two guards. Not that Chris seemed to be paying that much attention, instead glancing over the other distortions and bright motes that moved in an odd ripple delay. Shifting up, their attention fixed on a ripple that didn’t appear to be moving at all despite the clear wave in it, straight above where they were. Reaching out, Chris traced fingers through the haze. “So artificial gates do leave marks.” The comment was quiet, not really directed although it would serve well enough as an explanation too.

Robin handed the mask back without question, keeping a hand on her shoulder as he guided them back towards the group. It put Kage in a rather interesting position to be the only one to know about the crack in Robin’s attitude as his finger’s squeezed. A reflexive action to the thrill of adrenaline and fear that spiked through him at the slight whistle coming from the object Chris had tossed, and the fact that the being was holding the box said to contain deadly gas.

The boy wonder had been listening half-heartedly to the conversation, what he could hear of it anyway. Mostly had seemed that Chris was relaxing and talking easily with Will, and perhaps showing just a bit of humor to Lucky although Robin had caught more of the tone than the words so who was to say. Really the most solid piece he had actually heard was the part about Will not being able to see well, and Chris being able to see in light, dark, between and that it was a breed trait developed to run. None of it had seemed hostile, but Robin had seen pretty good acts like that before.

The tension that ran just under the surface of Robin released when light filled the area between Chris and the device, and then a model of the city. Letting out his breath slowly he muttered an apology to Kage before moving past. Maybe he didn’t trust Chris as much as he had thought yet. Of course, a lot of that had to do with the other actively holding and…caressing?...the box of death. Stepping around the couch, Robin let his eyes trail over the map as he tried to put his suspicion aside. It was really only successful because Chris didn’t seem interested in opposing them, and because Robin didn’t want to believe that the being could have that perfect of an mask.

The map laid out before them was rather breathtaking, although it was odd. Robin would have to ask later why some points were crystal clear, even the coloration more or less correct, while others were blurry and off color. Taking a step to the side he considered the odd patterning of one of the buildings, before glancing at Chris. Was this how Kothar saw the world, and what was up with the rivers in the…did this map show wind currents?

His thoughts on the logic of that, as well as the mechanics behind making it a reality, were put on hold by the spots of brightness. The location matched up well with what his tracker had indicated, although where his tracker showed on a linear map, this one gave the level they were on as well. No wonder Chris had been unfazed by the concept of tracking the guards down. It did raise the question of why they didn’t have the same technology at their disposal, although Robin suspected he knew the answer, knew more or less what a ‘Kyote’ equivalent role on earth was. Chris reaching out to touch the hologram, to brush through the distortion might as well have confirmed it in Robin’s mind. “Does that make it more likely to reopen there?”

Yeesh. I know about the running into walls full speed thing. Ice skater. Those walls are incredibly unforgiving. Will'd thrown himself into them by accident fairly often, damn near knocking out a tooth on several occasions. Hell he actually hit them back first more often than not when skating backwards. More of his whole antics to impress his mother honestly. Will was kind of a jack of all trades in the whole extra-curricular department. Getting mama's attention was hard, so he tried everything. But only music and ice skating stayed as legitimate interests. He began to wonder what would happen if he took the Kothar with him one day? He quickly struck that idea down, he'd feel guilty if he fell or got hurt or something. He'd offer later if he thought Chris'd be interested.

His gaze lifted as the fun holo-map popped up, head tilting. D
ayum. Full of fun surprises aren't you? Gates to what? Hell? Because that sounds like fun! Maybe they'd get lucky and have a zombie appocalypse. That's always been a dream of Will's to have a real life walking dead episode. Then he remembered the whole 'interdimentional dove hunting' thing. Not quite zombies but it'd do.

Chris had clearly wandered off into their own thoughts, circling around to the other side of the map to consider the scar from the other side. That there would be residue left over was a possibility they had suspected, especially when it actually came to things passing back and forth through the gate. How likely it made it for that area to reopen though, Chris had no idea. They had never gotten that far into testing the gates. At most they had confirmed that it opened into a stable path. It could very well have a permanent side effect. It was also possible that the area would dissipate, the remains of the particles that had passed through spreading until they were untraceable on this plane. It was even possible that they would shift and take on the vibrations native here.

Only when the translator whispered with a word that it did know was Chris pulled back from thoughts on the physics, and if they changed in this plane. Blinking out of the daze, they turned to look at Will and Robin. For a long moment the amber eyes were simply blank, pulling back into what they were talking about, what had started Chris off into their own thoughts.

Fingers traced through the distortion again, considering. “More research would be needed. By its nature the built gate should be more stable than the sudden gates since it should remain open so long as the devices remain active. This has not been tested or proven however. It is possible that the stable point remains afterwards, at least for a while.” Spreading and refolding wings, Chris looked back to Robin. Really it was more a look of consideration, and almost sizing up. Chris had revealed too much, not thinking before speaking on the theories buzzing through their mind. The damage was done though. It just remained to be seen if Chris was safe in relaxing as they had. “The distortion could fade away on its own, and remains just as the vibrations in myself and those others who have crossed until otherwise diluted. It is too soon to tell if this is the case as the wind in this area encourages the particles to remain as they are rather than drifting just yet. There may also be side effects that draw pieces of different worlds together. We were unable to research such things before the blood thirsty came for what we had.” Chris paused for a long moment staring at the scar before reaching out for it again. “It is also possible that this side effect happened because of the gate exploding while open. The area under should be searched to see if there is remains of the devices that were pulled through.” It was incredibly possible, and actually a result that Chris would hope for. If half of the gate was on one side, and the other half remaining on the home plane, then it would be almost impossible for the other faction to figure out.

Robin folded his arms, a slight satisfied smirk playing across his lips as Chris spoke. So, his suspicions were correct. Chris was one of the Kyote that had been involved with the gate. Not that it had been that much up to question. True, anyone could have found out the layout of the place to infiltrate wherever the gate had been. Anyone could have felt horror for what was done to the others, but how many were willing to lay down their lives for something untested. How many knew enough about the gate to turn it on and dive through it headfirst.

The Titan let his eyes drift down to the box that Chris still held, pondering. Chris had said there was a deadly gas in it, and that was a possibility. One had to wonder, if Chris was actually telling the truth, or if there was something in there with the gas. If Chris had brought parts of a gate, even just scraps, that was far more than the Justice League had at the moment. Hell, even the map Chris displayed was more than the Justice League had. If they could get him to share the information, their ability to find the gates and defend against any harmful things coming through would jump ahead.

Not that it would be required. Chris was already essentially accepted to the team, once he stopped caressing the box and staring at Robin like he was contemplating who would win in a fight. The guy had wings after all, no one would question further than that when he was accepted into the ranks. “We can help you search in the morning. You’ll be able to talk to Cyborg then too. He’ll help with whatever equipment you might need to study it.” His slight nod indicated the distortion before Robin reached into the hologram. Part of him was honestly expecting resistance, or warmth, or something. Instead there was nothing as his hand passed through the image. He was confident that it was entirely possible and non-harmful, since Chris had done it multiple times. “For now, do we need to worry about them?”

His fingers brushed the two brilliant points that matched up with his tracker. The two other Kothar. “They haven’t moved in a while, are they bunked down for the night or do we need to worry that they are working on a way to track you?”

Kage watched them talk remaining silent as she slowly fell into a meditative state trying to calm down from what had happened and the memories that had resurfaced along with them. Listening to them made her wonder if it was possible to track anyone with the map or even the gates themselves.

The lead of this team staring at the box didn’t go unnoticed, although Chris chose not to comment. Instead the being glanced towards the ramp that led up and out of the underground. Really Chris could probably search tonight, although it would take quite a while to go through and tell which pieces belonged to which plane. With the turning of the subject, Chris looked back.

“While the city is quiet it is unlikely that they will move. They have no translator, nor would they understand the intricacies to modify a map, if they have one at all.” Given where they were guarding and how well documented everything was, it was unlikely. The maps such as this were used to scout new areas, or to look over what had changed. A standard guard who didn’t expect to leave their post wouldn’t just randomly have one.

Chris’s eyes slid down, considering the marks along the base that flickered each time that the ripple of light passed through the map, showing changes worth noting. The devices that moved along the streets were the most picked up, although occasionally it got a good flicker of a person moving back and forth. “The guards may not be Kyote, but they are smart enough to know that they are outnumbered and trapped. They may come for me, but they will not strike at people until they understand better what they are against. They might steal food.”

Robin nodded, then it struck him. He had ordered food, it should be here by now. “Alright. We will figure out what to do with them in the morning then.” Drawing out the communicator he frowned. The food was here, and the delivery guy was…confused to say the least by the texts. “Chinese is here.”

He glanced at the others. They could follow him he supposed if they really wanted. He wasn’t going to stop them. He’d make them help him carry things though. Moving off, he went up the ramp to retrieve what was going to be a lot of things.

The delivery boy reacted about as Robin expected. Somewhat stunned for Robin to just appear but not questioning of it. The food and money was passed back and forth, and the stack of trays brought down to be laid out on a covered box that would serve as a table for now. “Come and get it. The spicy ones are marked.”

Will decided to go help Robin, he didn't understand the whole bird people thing. His whole understanding of it was some big feathery asshole was chasing Chris or something or another and they'd have to kick their asses. He carried what the delivery man had left over, thinking some more on the whole Kothar thing. "And what happens when they realized the general public can't put up much of a fight against them?" He could understand why an alien creature would be nervous to prod the predominant species on a foreign place.

But let face it... humans are squishy. They broke easily and when faced with real danger a normal human defended itself like a scared rabbit. Would the Kothar that were here learn they could over power people and turn to conquest?

Aram wasn't sure what was happening. He was keeping up with what they were saying. What he only caught was that there was a map and that it was able to track everyone there, as well as perhaps tracking the rifts before they even appear. It would certainly be useful for all of them, but he wasn't sure if Chris would even consider on sharing the technology fully with them. He was pretty sure that, given the opportunity, someone might try to replicate it or hook it up to the tower's system. The blond wasn't sure who would do it, though. Maybe Cyborg? He was still working on this Tower after all.

As long as Robin understood it, Aram didn't really care if he didn't. He only needed to listen to orders after all. When Robin checked and saw that the delivery man was there, he stood up as well to help. He was right behind Will and Robin and then helped out. There were a lot of them. He peeked in curiously into the bag he was holding and a smile was on his face. Ah, yes, it had been quite a while since he had a proper meal like this.

He then placed it beside the others' and took out a spicy one. He walked back to his seat and began to eat quietly, looking at the others with interest as he listened.

Chris’s excitement about getting out of the underground might have been a bit too evident. The moment they talked about surfacing the wings flicked, and Chris turned that way. A quiet whistle from Chris, and the map flickered off, leaving only the slim rod laying on the floor. Chris did hesitate just over it, the usual method used to pick something up slithering across the back under the armor. After a moment the wings whispered partially open so that the being could reach down with a hand to take the device.

There was a similar moment of hesitation at the surface. Not on the ramp up, Chris was nearly pulling ahead of the lead with a faint smile at the promise or being under the sky. The moment they emerged however, Chris slowed. The wings drew in tighter for just a moment and the being came to a stop in the shadows, letting the night blend with the wings. It was a hesitation that decided for Chris which path would be taken. The other three took their share of the burden, before turning right back into the underground. For a moment the amber gaze traveled up, looking at the stars that were actually somewhat different. Then with a quiet sound, the being turned back to the underground.

Emerging from the tunnel into the main room once again, Chris took in a breath. They could dismiss the wings. It would make things easier. This group appeared to have no interest in keeping Chris as a prisoner of any kind. They had made no objection even when Chris got a bit ahead. Shifting behind the place where Robin had set the food, Chris decided to wait. Maybe if they had been above ground and Chris truly relaxed, or as relaxed as one could expect. For now though, it was comforting to have the weight and it would avoid any type of drawn out explanations this evening.

Taking one of the distinctly marked entries, Chris moved off to the side. They didn’t eat quite yet though, instead raising the amber gaze to consider Will. “When the guards realize, they will slaughter in public displays, knowing that it will draw me out.” The gaze dropped, watching the others eat curiously before picking at the fork that they were using. Not that it stayed long, Chris quickly taking up the chopsticks with a fair bit more grace even if they were held a little oddly as the being picked through the various pieces of what appeared to be spicy noodles. “It will not happen in a day. The greeting you gave through the gate will incline them to think that the general populous is as powerful. This is true even of those who appear unarmed, as they greatly outnumber even the main army and it has been driven home recently that even a kyote gown can hide death.” Chris lifted one of the chilies curiously, turning it over before placing it delicately on the tongue. For a moment the being said nothing, head tilted to the side. Then they clicked their tongue and continued on. “They are unlikely to move. For now they will assume that there are more with wings. Certainly your buildings are tall enough to warrant although it will start to crumble when they see multiple wingless children.”

Will took one of the boxes of rice, picking through with his chopsticks and removing the slices of boiled egg that were laid on top, setting them on another plate for anyone else to claim. Will had always despised eggs. Not really all of the egg, he just hated egg yolks. The white parts were fine, but the yellow bits just ruined the whole thing. Someone else could have them.

He listened the Chris but didn't really like at all what he had to say. So the public was in danger to some degree. Sure Chris said they wouldn't realize people are squishy soon, but what of when they did? What kind of crazy shenanigans would they pull to get Chris's attention? "How are they against ballistics?" He wondered if even the police could take them down or if they could pray they picked 'the wrong human'. If they went too public the police could pose a bit of a threat, but if guns did nothing, they were in even more trouble. "Race against time. How lovely. At least I'm good at witch hunts. " Like too good. Will didn't get the title 'demon slayer' for no reason. He was demolishing human trafficking rings every night for the last year. He was more than willing to shift gears momentarily if it was this big of a problem.

Might even be good for him. Pulling Will away from his demons was a hard feat, but the promise of 'slaughter in public displays' would certainly do it.
