Fantasy Tales of Ristafel

Noticing the two Etherborn girls sitting alone and seemingly unguarded. Steven decided that now would be a great time to reintroduce himself. Seeing as his last interaction with one of them ended badly.

Approaching the girls he had a wonderous idea. As he came closer he extended his arm and quicky slapped it against the smaller of two's behind.

"I've got a bit of an issue I could use some help with back in my room, mind joining me?" He said. Leering suggestively.

Vallen sighed, and glanced over towards Ayrenn. "You joining us?" the question was mostly calm, but there was a hint of desperation, a hopeful glint in his eye that Ayrenn wouldn't decide to stay behind, despite all the reasons she may have to do so. He didn't understand why, but he felt that his obligation towards Ayrenn was greater than that of his 2 other new friends. He waited for her to answer.

"AAAAAAAAAAAA-eh?" Hachi's shout was interrupted as his body swung out from under him. He landed on his back with a crash of steel on wood, his sword impaling the ground beside him. His view of the ceiling, however, was blocked by the same person that had knocked him over.

"Lacy black, huh? That's a mature selection, miss." the samurai said, crossing his arms as he lay on the floor.

Before she had time to respond, Matthew and Gustav had vanished into the tavern. Her lips were parted slightly, as if about to say something. Kyubi continued to stand close beside her, his white ears flicking back and forth. Surprisingly, Vallen had stayed behind. He seemed to be waiting for her.

Ayrenn was silent for a moment. And than, she suddenly smiled and nodded.

"Of course."

She responded back in a soft voice. Ayrenn walked closer to him until she was standing directly next to Vallen. A small smile continued to dance across her lips as she flashed him a glance, and proceeded past him.

"Wait out here, Kyubi." She murmured to the beautiful creature. He had a disapproving look on his face, but bobbed his head and huffed in response.

Hadi stood up and raised his hand slowly.

"Excuse me, sir? My name is-", he was cut off by a scream from Hachi and a crash of a samurai in full kit hitting the ground, "...My name is Hadi.", he continued, "I wish to ask a question: Are there any beasts in this tomb? Very big and scary ones? I have not had a good hunt in many days, and I wish to hone my skills against the creatures of this region. I wish to ask another question: Is this an open invitation?"

Matthew couldn't help but stick his tongue out in a bit of disgust. Eying the garments of women, when there were plenty of arousing men. Sickening. However, the foreigner brought up a good point. Pressmaster Crawley quickly asked, "Whar exactly be t' tomb located? What booties be within it? What be t' terrain like? How much ocean be we expectin'?" He kicked his right foot off of the wall, and leaned his full back proper on it.

And of course the most important question "Prey or pay?"

Beltway listened patiently to Hadi's question, and couldn't recall a proper answer. However, he did know that such a question was obviously leading somewhere, and responded enthusiastically.

"Merry, hast thou any knowledge of the beasts of yore? Tall as ships of the line, and thrice as sturdy! Voracious as a yawning whirlpool and vicious as a trapped rat! Verily, were any of such behemoths still alive, 'twould be savvy to suppose them around the tomb of Sigmar! Any and all who are willing to risk themselves for untold riches are welcome, they would merely have to show their willingness!"

Beltway's attention was turned to Matthew. Once again, an answer failed to come up from his memory. Once again, he stretched the truth.

"We are a long ways from the shore, fair yeoman! However, I expect a fair amount of travel overseas would be foreseen 'fore we reach our bounty! None have survived to tell the tale of what lies within Sigmar's tomb... my scholarly compatriot is working from intuition and rumors, founded on what little information survives. Surely, the tomb of a king holds a king's ransom!"

Lily winced at the clatter the falling loudmouth caused, but she was prepared for it all the same. She was also prepared for a counterattack, and was surprised when none came. Instead, she was engaged by words, and responded in kind.

"The saleslady said they look good on me. What do you think? If it keeps you from shouting again, you can have a pair for yourself." Lily offered a hand to the fallen samurai.

Matthew grinned ear to ear as the bard answered the variety of questions. He licked his lips as he recalled of adventures past on the high seas. There was something else about this man. Giving an overly elegant flair of the right wrist, Matthew gave a showboating bow. He raised his left hand, "Me hearty! Ye shall have t' services o' t' Pressmaster Crawley!" He boisterously declared, as he gave another smirk.

Ajax awoke in a cold, dark, humid and foul-smelling place. It wasn't the first time and probably wouldn't be the last. He had no idea where he was and less of how he got there. He didn't remember much of anything recent, truth be told. He remembered his father, the bastard Cleon, some of his travels, but last night was definitely a blank.

All he knew was that he couldn't see even though his eyes were open (he was pretty sure they were open anyway), he couldn't move at all and he could barely breathe because wherever he was, the air was stale and permeated with the rank stench of bad wine and vomit. He could hear the vague din of conversation nearby, but he had no way of making out what was being said.

"ORRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

Now that he heard perfectly. It practically echoed wherever he was, or maybe it was just his own head making him pay for whatever it was that he'd done. It felt like when he was hit in the face by an ogre, except inside his brain. Whatever the case, he knew what that kind of scream signalled. How couldn't he, it was his lifeblood. It was the call to battle, and nothing could keep him from it. He answered in kind.

"RRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

From a corner of the room, close to the bar, a seemingly completely innocuous barrel suddenly just...burst from within along with the new shout. Rather than liquid, what emerged was an arm. A human arm, or humanoid at least, tanned and positively ripped, the skin on it scarred and deformed into a bumpy, leathery hide worthy of a monster.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

In short order, the rest of the occupant's limbs began breaking through the barrel. Another arm, then a leg and then another, and the screaming wouldn't stop. Each of the limbs was as scarred and muscular as the last, and they way they broke through the thick wood and metal hoops proved their size wasn't just for show. Finally, the hands grabbed hold of the punctured container and ripped it apart as if it were paper.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaawhere's the fight?"

What emerged was not some anthropomorphic beast but a man, if a tall and obviously powerful one. Onlookers could be forgiven for mistaking him for some inhuman creature, however. After all, Ajax was a rather...scraggy man. Wearing nothing but his wine-stained robe and still showing signs of his nightly binge, he looked around confusedly, still standing inside the remains of the barrel he'd spent the night in.

Gustav was excited and smiling, a bunch of new people and friends to enjoy, and spread his word and teachings, and many lessons to be learned on his half as well! the whole idea had the Priest ready to adventure once again. He snapped his fingers loudly and in a joyful tone announced.

"Well you had me at Goddess Crea! Count me in!"

The Priest looked at Mathews and smirked. Sitting down beside him.

"Shall this be our adventure then? May I still take you up on your offer of a drink? Or perhaps, we all could have a drink before casting off on this grand expedition!"

A wide smile spread across vallen's face at Ayrenn's sudden playfulness. He rushed to catch up with her, then walked beside her to the tavern door. As he proceeded inside, he heard Beltaway talking to Gustav. As soon as Beltaway noticed him he said something about "that thug behind you attempted to seduce," afterwards making a very lewd, suggestive and uncalled for comment. He was obviously referring to Emerald. Vallen clenched his fists and muttered under his breath. "Of course someone like him would assume my intentions in standing up for her were to seduce her. What other reason would seem worth the effort to such a philandering wastrel?' he stood there, trying to calm himself, hoping to Crea and any other gods that would listen that his anger was not given a reason to take over once again. This would be very bad timing for such a thing.

Vallen then listened to Beltaway's speech with intrigue. he turned to Ayrenn. "hmm... perhaps we should find this blue-haired scholar... I've a feeling due to the events of this morning that fate itself wills we partake in this quest. Though if I'll have to work with Beltaway... and Hachi... and that other angry, over-confrontational heathen of a bard...." he trailed off, beginning to be convinced it wasn't such a good idea, seeing as he would probably cause trouble far more than be of any use.

"The saleslady was correct; they contrast nicely with your skin and hair. Moreover, the lace adds a nice amount of frill; it's like having a nice ribbon in your hair." Hachi agreed, taking Lily's hand to pull himself up.

"You'd... offer a memento?" Hachi asked. He had no idea he could garner a lady's favor this quickly, and judging from her dress and embellished weapon, she was no doubt a person of high class. Truly, he thought, he must have had the spirit of a samurai.

"You honor me with such gifts, Miss." the samurai gave a deep bow.

"Yes, hello, excuse me? Everyone?", Hadi waved towards Ajax, who had just very loudly and violently exploded out of a barrel, "This man has just broken out of a barrel. Is this another of your strange cultural traditions? Why does nobody seem to care about this thing that has happened?"

Hadi stopped, suddenly struck with the feeling that he had forgotten something. He turned to face Ajax and gave him a and gave a nod of acknowledgement.

"Ah, I am sorry for not introducing myself to you first, barrel-man. I am Hadi, a hunter. Tell me, is this a thing that your people enjoy doing?"

Lily smiled. So many compliments, all so quickly! Maybe today will be a good day.

"I'll take that as an agreement to the trade. Done." Lily set her axe on a nearby table, then reached to her waist with both hands. She leaned over, and... Well, off came the panties. Without a bit of embarrassment showing on her face, she handed them to the samurai, then retrieved her axe and headed toward the bard to accept the quest.

Hachi took the garments, and stared at them for a long minute.

"I have to hold onto these in the most honorable manner possible." he declared, his voice brimming with firey determination.

The samurai slid them over his ring-shaped helmet crest. All who looked at Hachi would now see the lady's favor displayed proudly on his head, like a black flag marking his nobility and chivalry. He then pulled his sword from the ground and sheathed it before folding his arms, awaiting the next happening from these foreigners.

One burst out of a barrel. Foreigners liked to party hard, Hachi thought.

"...wha? No...gods it better not. That sucked. I ain't from around here", Ajax said as he stepped off the demolished cask, leaving behind nothing but wine-soaked, splintered wood and something unspeakable in what had been the barrel's bottom. His step was surprisingly firm for someone who had clearly spent the night drinking overmuch then locked inside a perfectly sealed, if otherwise empty, barrel.

"The name *urrkk*, sorry bout dat. I am Ajax Diagorides and I beat the shit out of things. Nice meetin ya Hadji. Where I'm from, we party hard, and sometimes there's...accidents. I dunno how I ended up in there but I'm sure someone's pissed at me". Ajax explained all this as he slowly stretched his body out, his muscles rippling and tensing with every motion as he tried to make himself less sore. A crappy night will mess with even the best fighter, after all. "So, where am I and what's happening? I heard some fightin scream".

As soon as Ayrenn entered the tavern with Vallen, the sight of a woman taking off her undergarments and handing it to the samurai stood in front of them. The samurai then proceeded to... put them on his head like some proudly won achievement. Turning from pale to a bright pink, the Etherborn blushed uncomfortably and acted like she had seen nothing. Vallen began to speak, and Ayrenn found herself letting out a small breath of relief. His words helped her take her mind off of the current events going on around them.

"I would like to be a part of this quest... It would give me purpose, instead of a simple wanderer traveling from city to city. A change is nice once in awhile." She said with a reassuring smile. Her eyes flicked from face to face, studying them carefully and observing their personalities from a distance. Ayrenn laughed a charming little laugh that sounded like the chime of a golden bell.

"Even if the people with us are a bit odd." She murmured half to herself, and half to Vallen. Once again, Ayrenn glanced over to him with her honeyed eyes. They were gentle and calm, like the surface of a quiet lake. Her lips, as usual, were curled into a delicate smile.

Vallen smiled as Ayrenn spoke. Her words seemed to wash away his doubts. As she laughed, and then looked up at him with that wonderful smile on her beautiful face, Vallen felt nearly all anxiety and trepidation leaving him. He felt as if simply continuing to be near her would allow him to keep his previously uncontrollable temper under control. But how? He'd met quite a few people in his life he grew very fond of, but this seemed to be something different, something more... well more is the only word he could think of. He decided to deviate from this train of thought for now, and focus on the present.

"Yes, I too have not found much of a purpose since I began to wander. Let us go find the blue-haired scholar. Oh and, may i ask a favor? I will try to ignore certain... individuals, but if anyone seems to anger me would you please try and direct my attention away from them? I'd rather not start another fight in here, for everyone's sake."

Ayrenn watched with a silent happiness as Vallen slowly began to relax. His anger seemed to vanish, and she wondered if it was really her doing. It must have been. However, his next words surprised the Etherborn slightly.

Oh and, may I ask a favor? I will try to igmore certain... indiviudals, but if anyone seems to anger me would you please try and direct my attention away from them? I'd rather not start another fight in here, for everyone's good."

She felt her heart grow warm, mostly due to the fact he was relying on her for something such as this. With a small nod, Ayrenn agreed to this favor of his.

"I would be happy to..." She murmured to him softly. Her gaze flicked back to the tavern and the interesting people dwelling inside it. This 'blue-haired scholar' Vallen spoke of was sitting at a table across the room with Emerald and a few others.

"I think that's her." Ayrenn told Vallen, glancing over to him and then proceeding to approach the blue-haired girl.

"Excuse me?"

Ayrenn asked politely, bowing towards her before saying anything else. She returned to a normal stance, and smiled.

"We heard you are seeking adventurers for an important quest. We would be happy to join you."

A seven foot tall man stood, eating a large salad covered in carrots and tomatoes, chewing on it before swallowing. The bulge travelled down his tree trunk of a neck before he shuffled over to the sailor.

"The sea can be a harsh mistress from what I understand. I... also do not trust a monk who would be so enraged by such inconsequential actions. It is a dangerous journey, and I can not allow you to undertake it alone."

Emerald turned to Ayrenn, and consequently Vallen, and smiled. "Oh! Are you here for the quest too? How wonderful! I look forward to journeying with you. May we become the best of friends!" Emerald stood from her seat and leaned forward to embrace Ayrenn in a hug, and though her grip was a bit tight, it was a very good hug. "All help will surely be appreciated."

"It is good to meet you, barrel-man Ajax. Your accidents are very impressive. As for what has happened-", he pointed at Vallen, "-This man, the very violent man taught to hate his fellow, but calls himself a monk, took hands with the robed man-", he pointed at Gustav, "-who calls himself a priest but does not pray, and the woman with corn-silk for hair-", he pointed at Aryenn, "-who owns a deer-like thing that is not entirely a deer, and was heading to market, though she is heading to market no longer, to attack this armored man-", he pointed at Hachi, "-who has tied some sort of silk flag to his head. After attempting to kill the armored man over some slight, the monk who does not act like a monk told the armored man he would allow the armored man the first blow. I told him that it was not, in fact, the first blow, but in fact the fourth blow, or possibly third depending on if what the robed man had done counted as a strike. It was at this point that the armored man started buzzing, so I exited this tavern until it was safe to come inside. After I exited, I spoke to the corn-silk hair woman, who as I had said before told me she was going to market, though she no longer wishes to. Then, the not-monk attempted to follow, and justify his actions. I was disgusted, and left him to speak with the corn-silk woman, who seems to fancy him."

Hadi coughed, "Excuse me, my throat is a little dry. All the same, after I entered the tavern, the robed man left, for he also wished to go to market, though he no longer does. Then, this man with the very good speaking skills-", he pointed to Beltaway, "-Told us he wished to go on to a tomb where we would find very much wealth and very many monsters. Then you exploded out of a barrel, which was very exciting."

Vallen wtached as Emerlad aproached Ayrenn, and gave her a hug, enthusiastically talking to her... whilst ingnoring him, right behind her. He knew why, or rather he thought he knew why: that his actions prior had upset her. He felt completely awful about this, as his only intention at the time was to get Hachi to cease acting entirely against her will.... but Emerald herself cried for an end to the conflict, assuring Vallen that Hachi meant well. 'I don't think I'll ever understand how she came to such an obviously false conclusion but... I must try and make amends.' Vallen approached the two, and turned to Emerald. His expresion was ridden with guilt. "Emerald, I apologize for intruding but I must ask that you forgive me of my prior actions, the intentions of which were only to halt wrongdoing against you that I perceived. I... understand if you refuse to believe this, but it is in my nature to lash out whenever I feel an innocent is being wronged, and only then. I hope there are no hard feelings, and that we may become friends as well." He looked over both Emerald and Ayrenn hopefully after saying this.

Emerald looked at Vallen and gave him a warm smile. "Of course I forgive you. I don't blame you for your actions, you simply responded to a perceived threat the way you were taught. I do not hold it against you, I promise." to prove her point, she released Ayrenn and wrapped her arms around Vallen. "You seem to be such a nice guy, after all. I hope you will consider joining this quest despite your conflicts with the others."
