Rain falls gently on a smooth glass surface. A man, likely in his late 50's, stands in his office, looking down at the city below. It's bright despite the late hour. Holoboards display advertisements for the newest products, the headlights of hovercars illuminate damp concrete roads that twist and wind around the skyscrapers towering over the city's inhabitants, and the city's nightlife breathes a sense of energy into the streets. The mega-apartments that hold much of the population are mostly dark, though there are some rooms that still have their lights on. The man smiles as he watches over his home. He's seen all of it; the low-life crime, the corruption in the higher tiers of society, the honest; hardworking men and women trying to pull themselves up the social hierarchy. There's a certain dark beauty to it, he thinks to himself. It may not be a popular system, but it's the system he created. The system that he worked so hard to firmly implant. Not everywhere is like this, and many people disagree what he's done, but it matters not to him. All that matters is that the system is in place.

A gun is in his hand; a silenced energypistol that, if fired, would barely emit a sound loud enough to escape the room it's shot in. His face is covered my a light-bending mask, obscuring any possible defining features a camera might pick up. The building is mostly empty save for a few overtime workers, the security guards, a receptionist, and his target. No one has noticed him, and the cameras are still being fed false footage for the next hour. Slowly, he opens the door to the office. It's nearly silent, the locking mechanism makes a light 'click' as he turns the handle. The man in front of him turns slightly when he hears someone enter his room, but he doesn't say anything. Before any words can be exchanged, the sound of two pistol shots echo throughout the room, followed by a 'thump' as a body falls to the floor.

Hi there. I've been itching for a good sci-fi RP, so I've been working on a little idea I've had. The story takes place in a galaxy that's been rather well explored, and while it has many different factions and governments in it, things are generally not going too well. Corruption isn't uncommon and governments are in constant war as they try to wrestle control of planets, resources, and even cities from each other. Things aren't bad everywhere, though. There are still many planets that are unexplored, and some governments are better than others. I'm going for a sort of Star Wars/Bladerunner/Shadowrun/Firefly type feel to the whole thing. Bladerunner and Shadowrun in some of the worse parts of the galaxy, Star Wars in the grandness of the story and some of the better parts of the galaxy, and Firefly in some of the themes discussed. I'm looking for a partner who can write a paragraph or two per post and who wants to help flesh this galaxy out. Good grammar is required. I'm up for opening this to a group RP of three or even four people, but in my experience sci-fi group RP's don't tend to do well so it'd have to be a good group. The story is flexible in that it can revolve around some higher-tier stuff, i.e. the toppling of governments and dealing with major events, or it can exist in a more criminal-underworld setting that's a bit more low tier.
