In the depths of space, several large columns of water stood from the earth's surface. A frail yet beautiful girl ascended from it. She had a tint of blue in her skin and her hair and eyes resembled that of crystal blue waters.
Back down on Earth, it wasn't as beautiful there as it was in the stars. People paid no mind to what seemed like an infinite column of water that was ascending from the beach waters. Apart from one boy, about the blue girl's age.
The boy was on a walk one day when he came across the large towering waters. Being the curious boy he was, he ran towards the beach. When he made it to his destination, he yelled, "Hello! Is anyone there?" There was no response. He held his breath and walked into the column of water. Just when he tilted his head up, a large body of water in the shape of a hand picked him up and took off, escalating faster and faster up the pillar of water.
He made it to the top, and came across the blue girl. She was sitting at the edge, contemplating ways to increase the height of pillar.
"Uh...hi--" he said nervously, breaking the awkward silence. The second he said hi the blue girl turned around. She turned back around.
The boy walked up to her and sat by her side. Every few seconds he would avert his eyes to look at her.
"Do you ever feel...homesick?" she asked.
"N-not really..." the boy said. The girl kept quiet for a few moments when the boy spoke again.
Sometimes..." he said more confidently this time. The two looked back at the stars and the beautiful colors that made up space.
"Opal Tourmaline."
"...what?"
"My name. It's Opal..." she paused, "You should go..."
"What why?" Lucas asked in shock.
Lucas noticed the water rippling as fear came over him. The rippling continued, more vigorously than before. He stood up, and the pillars began to split down the middle, causing the space between him and Opal to grow in size.
Opal stood up as well and was unfazed by the current events. She ran towards the canyon between them. "Opal no!" Lucas yelled in fear of Opal falling through. To his dismay, a pair of water like wings protruded out of her back and she floated gracefully to the other side.
"I'm sorry..." she said as she pushed the frightened boy off the edge. He watched in shock as the towering waters fell apart. Unfortunately, due to the fall, Lucas died. Ever since the death of Lucas Christopher Quartz, word got around and soon enough it reached his family.
His brother, Nicholas Alexander Quartz, was the most impacted by his death and ever since he found out, he prejudiced the unknown. He told all of his friends and family and they told their friends and family and so on. Eventually everyone knew about these unknown creatures.
