Set-up
Three decades have passed since the Great War of the Unnaturals where supers and villains collided, rocking the world to its core and destroying several major cities around the globe, killing thousands in the process. The governments united and devised a solution, coming up with a counteractive chemical that neutralized the 'super' gene, with the intention of making the unnaturals just as mortal and weak as the rest of the human race.
It stopped the war, but the subduing agent did more than mitigate their powers- it poisoned them.
One by one, the supers and villains died. Without time, or really the desire, to come up with a solution, scientists and doctors were helpless to prevent their tragic endings. While some entities within the government remained sympathetic to their superheroes, after countless casualties and years of fighting, all were relieved that the threat had been annihilated. That was, until crime spiked to a historical record high and governments began to assert their powers in militaristic threats that crippled economies and pushed the world even closer to a one-world government and doomsday.
Then, one day, something changed. The humans credit a few rich people who had the courage and resources to stand against the growing evil. However, behind the scenes lies a very different truth.
While most with the 'super' gene were eliminated during the war, some survived. Each believing they are the only ones left, they have learned to fend for themselves and keep safely beneath the human race's radar.
Synopsis
You live in Gotham City, the grimy underbelly of the nation where crime is rampant. After Batman was killed, there was no one capable of controlling the criminals, but they're no issue for a secret super like yourself- and if they are, well, you've always enjoyed a challenge.
By night, you're the only super left on the face of the Earth, fighting evil with an iron fist (metaphorically speaking, or maybe not). By day, however, you work just like any other good American and enjoy life with an amazing group of friends you luckily met when you moved into the city. They're just regular people, or so you think.
But they're keeping a secret just like you. As if fate wound you all together, they happen to have the super gene, too. None of you are aware of the others' true identities as supers (or villains), as you all are quite good at survival and keeping your identity hidden.
Specifics
I'm hoping for a group of 5-6, but will go larger if more happen to be interested.
I've been wanting to do a rp like this for some time now, so it's unlikely that I will deviate far from the original idea, but I welcome suggestions and ideas.
You can play a villain or super. You can also be the child of famed supers from DC and Marvel, or you can make up your own. I will not be following the original comic storylines, so feel free to get creative with your character's lineage and backstory.
Your character is part of an intimate group of super/villain friends. You don't initially know the identity of the others, though as the rp unfolds, the truth will spill out.
The story will take place 2 years after the last friend was included in the group. They could have all met at an art convention, a political event, etc, but I think it may be more realistic that they slowly came together (we'll hash out details later). But I think 2 years is sufficient time to develop a close friendship. This doesn't mean you couldn't have met one or two during childhood before powers developed, then they reunited in the city. I want the players to have as much freedom with their characters as possible.
Rules
Due to violent themes, age limit for this rp is 18+
No bullying, harassing, etc. All site rules apply.
Lit Rp, paragraphs are necessary.
No discord with this rp.
Applications
I will post an application thread where you can post information for the character you wish to play.
As said earlier, you are welcome to whatever kind of super you'd like to play, just no god-modding. Your character should have weaknesses and strengths.
Thanks to all who has read this far!
