The Queendom of Falena is ruled by the Falenan Royal Family. So it has always been. So it shall always be.
But since the days of old, many things have changed. The Senate was reestablished after its disbanding by Queen Lymsleia nearly 400 years ago and is now run by not two, but three factions. Each faction has its share of supporters and detractors, as would any faction of a Senate run by the nobility. The common people are content for the time being, but nervous at the ever growing power of one faction in particular.
The Royal Family is keeping a great secret hidden away. A Princess was born nineteen years ago, and is first in line for the throne. Her younger sister is sixteen, and second in line should something happen to her. Both are charming, beautiful, and spectacular young women in many ways. But there is a third sister whom the public does not know about. Only the most potent of nobility know of her existence, as she is the identical twin to the current heir to the throne. Born literally minutes after her sister, and raised a warrior by her father, the Commander of the Queen's Knights, her existence marks the potential to erupt a civil war.
Due to the fact that the people have longed for generations for a Princess who was also a warrior, the people would be split between their love of the current heir and the potential of the one hidden from them by the Royal Family.
What would happen if her existence was made public? What would happen if the current heir were to perish? Would she take her place, or would she cede the right to her younger sibling who is publicly recognized as the rightful heir in such an instance? If she takes the place of her sister, is her sister's death covered up and she played to actually "be" her sister to keep the public unaware of the fact that they were twins?
There seems to be no correct answer to these questions.
The nobility is already at each other's throats, and with the Sacred Games fast approaching it is only a matter of time before something happens to shake the foundation of peace which is only just barely being held together thanks to the hard work of the Royal Family.
