Submission System - Call For Suggestions

This is a call for suggestions from users about the "ideal" front-end for the submission system.  I want to know:

  • How would things be organized in YOUR vision of the perfect Charm/spell/etc. repository?
  • What sorts of things do you want to see when you first come into the system?
  • Do "top ten" or "newest added" pages interest you?  How about other types of rankings ("most reviewed", "most prolific author")?
  • Anything else you think is relevant

SOMEONE's opinion of the perfect submission system front-end WILL be implemented.  If you don't speak up, it won't be yours.

Not really a suggestion for the method of submission. More the viewing thereof.

Could the charms from the WW Books be denoted as such in the Charm Tree view, so that we know which charms are canon and which are submitted? Something like "â— Rain of Feathered Death *" would be sufficient, with a footnote that says "* - White Wolf core charm"

Just a suggestion.

I thought it italicized the new charms, but my memory isn't the best. What I do remember, though, was that charms were somehow color-coded based on their rating. High rated charms were bolded, red, and maybe something else.

If it can be avoided, I would prefer not to see a system of colour coding in the charm trees.

If it's not an ungodly amount of work, I would like to see multiple rating systems. Newest Added is good one. I'd like to see Most Rated, or Most Commented On as options too. Maybe sorting the charms alphabetically by Author would be good too.

With all that said, though, I don't understand the amount of work involved in this in the slightest, so if this appears unreasonable, it is only because of ignorance and not unduely high expectations or demands.

Newest Added, Most Rated, and Most Commented On are pretty trivial to do, all in all.  The rating system isn't actually visible yet, but once it is and a few ratings are in, that'll start to appear.

Things brings up another policy question for everyone, though - do we want Newest Added, or Newest Modified?  The latter risks people bumping their Charms and such constantly to hog the limelight, the former means that people who revise their stuff on request won't get it seen.  A workaround is an option like "Show all refreshed submissions for me", which shows you everything modified after the date on which you last rated it.

How to view submissions is very much a part of what I'm hoping to get here :)

Canon Charms can be marked, yeah.  I'll take care of that when I get back from having my tires rotated.

Marking the actual author on the charm-tree view is useful enough that I made it happen.  Anything with "Exalted Core Rulebook" etc. in it is a canon Charm, I trust the site visitors to know the names of sourcebooks. :)

I couldn't figure out where to login.  I've been looking for a few minutes, but I suspect anything even slightly counter-intuitive will deter hopefuls.

There is no separate login.  If you're authenticated in the forums, you're authenticated in the submission system.

Since this is what I've been changing today, some of it MAY be in flux.  But the idea is to minimize what people have to mess around with.

Since you're one of the two submission editors, get on AIM or Yahoo if you have it when you have a chance, and message me.

If edits of charms need approval, I don't forsee this being a problem.  Anyone who edits their charm by nothing day after day will quickly find it rejected.

How about both?  A Recent Submissions page, a View By Author page, and a Recent Reincarnations page would be nice.
