some of the advice given to me i have taken from Jakk. its like a LotR type story. powerful artifact that is sought after by a powerful evil lord, and some everday people get thrown into the mix, and they have to destroy it...

theres a little town around 2 hundred miles east of Great Forks. this humble little town, named Liten Landsby. it is governed by a man named Glans Bringe. this town is a simple little town. the "mayor" worked for the guild and was a studying to be a Scavenger Lord. he gave up that dream, after he realized there was a more physical aspect to the life of a scavenger lord. he still had his wealth of first age lore and learned how to speak several different languages, and how to interact with spirits. after settling in this town, he was soon made the mayor. he needed to find a better way to protect this town other than the local gathering of farmers with pitch forks. he hired a mercenary company, and pays them monthly to protect his town. he even struck a deal with them, making his town their HQ if Glans built a small Garrison if the mercenaries made them pay less. to keep the income of his money, he helps guild merchants identify items they beleive to be first age items. there is also a lion dog who is a friend of Glans, protecting the town, after the old are it protected was taken down in a violent storm.

after Glans' last travel to work, there arrives three people passing through. one is clad in dark purple and crimson red robes, carrying a large, 6-foot wrapped item on his back. one openly shows his huge body, standing a large, 6 foot tall, ashen grey hair. and soulsteel articulated plate with a Grand Goremaul strapped to his back.the other is a normal, average sized person, with decaying flesh displaying seemingly over his entire body. he wears a reinforced breastplate of the same material as his large friend. he has a soulsteel powerbow in his hand and wicked thick arrows in his quiver.they arrive in town looking for a place to stay. thier leader, the heavily robed woman, arrives at the little towns small in. they demand free rooms, or there will be dire consequences. glans and about 5 of themercenary soldiers and the lion dog arrive at the inn after they hear of what happened. the innkeeper is hiding in the farthest reaches of the bar. he's trembling in fear and mumbling under his breath. the woman turns to see the men coming. they talk, Glans knowing exactly who they are and what they can do, agrees completely to free rooms and free service. he even offers some of his steeds as long as they are returned. everything is settled and Glans is feeling uneasy that his town is now harboring abyssals for the night. he wakes in the morning to find that several of his mercanaries are missing, and a farmer, and that the captain of the mercenaries is gathering his men, all one hundred of them. he walks outside and finds the three abyssals walking out of the inn, laughing at the whole scene. after a long argument between the captain and the three, Glans and the lion dog walk into the back of the inn to find that it is a bloody mess. there had to of been some kind of death ritual he did not know of going on. he was angry, at himself and the three, that these men took advantage of his forced kindness. after taking this all in, he starts to seethe with anger and walks out behind the three. he slips his knife out from his shoe and lifts it to stab the closest one in the neck. the lion dog acts along and attacks the robed women. this is when glans exalts. in his time of need, revenge, and sorrow, he exalts. the attack ensues. (the actual battle will be played out)

after the death of the three, they take all their valuables and burn the bodies. it takes six men to life the large man, six to carry the wrapped item and another six to carry the grand goremaul. (others will probably exalt during the battle, depending on thier situation). they open the wrapped item, and fear strikes deep into Glans as soon as he lays his eyes on it. it is the infamous Soul Mirror. it seemed as if they had stopped the abyssals from taking it to their deathlord, after it had been lost for so very long. they decide to leave the town, put a new captain in charge (that is if the PC who is the captain Exalts), and leave the Lion dog as protector of the twon and leader for the time being.

this is just the opening of the story of what i have going, but please, critique it and tell me where some could be better, fixed up, advice.

I'd save at least one of the abyssals. For an exalt to kill all three of them in just an exaltation and opening battle-that's miraculous.I'd be chasing the exalt rather than the Soul Mirror if I were the master Deathlord of the three :)

If you think your player can pull this out make it so.But having one abyssal fleeing the scene-he'll be certainly beat up by his lord for his failure-leaves you enough room for one antagonist.I'd be picking the one with the powerbow.Sneaky 8).I'll call him Snake from now on:). The pc won't notice him but he'll be on his tail for some sessions to follow. The large one certainly has to go down.Because he's large an he's expected to bring up a good fight. As for the leading lady I don't know.

Here's what I suggest:

The leading lady might be serving another deathlord. And when she dies her essence flees back. She returns back at some point later in the game and through a few encounters-perhaps the new and improved lady saving the pc from Snake-the pc understands that she's her!Or rather she was her! Then why she's against Snake? Was she a spy from the very beginning? If the abyssals tailing the artifact can't beat him they'll certainly try to tempt him into joining ranks with their master. The pc will just have to imagine what kind of power he'll wield with the Soul Mirror, that's for the lure of the ring part.

I urge you to use the background material on the Soul Mirror.Remember those three Immaculates who caught the artifact and sealed it Dragons know where in the first place? You should definitely remember

The antagonists can blackmail the pc later in the game. They can do so by threatening him to raze the little town Liten landsby to ground and so on...

Taht's for the can ever an exalt leave his previous life back even when duty calls him away? part.

As for the we should destroy the ring part you could just wait until your pc gathers enough skill in craft and lore and occult to unmake the artifact.Nope that didn't sound dramatic..I wrote it anyway

By the way I just remembered how close the town was to Greyfalls.

An exaltation followed by a flashy clash of arms between different types of exalted will surely attract the attention of a wyld hunt. When it comes to Wyld Hunt in the Scavenger Lands it comes to Ahn-Aru.I hope I spelled it correctly. That might be your ticket to get the Dynasty and the Bronze Faction invited to the dance.Any high-essence action would certainly attract the attention of Lookshy's spies. If the pc ever manages to hide in Lookshy and if The Mask of Winters ever finds that out..Your imagination..

Just my thoughts I hope it helps

Oops sorry I must correct myself.Last night when I read what you wrote I read Great Forks but I understood Greyfalls  :?

But in fact you don't need to be close to Greyfalls or to any Realm controlled city to get the Wyld Hunt on your pcs head.Just make the Sidereals notice that he's traveling around with Soul Mirror on his person and the hunt rides.

One thing that came to my mind is that if you are going for the Lotr feeling it's essential for you to have a sense of quest.Have the character/characters travel around.Push them into a dark journey beset by their foes in which every antagonist should take part as each one of them tries to get the mirror for himself.Pull this journey to different directions and so on..
