Stories

The moon stood high in the dark night sky. There was nothing more beautiful, according to him anyway. The tall demon was sitting on a branch in the woods, swaying his leg back and forth and watching the stars that appeared in the veil of the night - one by one. He felt blissful and lost for words. His yellow eyes beamed through the death of night as his gazed bounced from item to item, critter to critter. He was exhausted for no apparent reason. He had spent his whole day in the village of the mortals, walking around in his pretend disguise and talked to them who interested him the most. The demon assumed that walking pretending to be something he was not would be enough to tire a man - or demon - out.

Atkaviir's gaze fell, like so many times before, towards the sky. He spotted a raven circling the moon and was gripped by jealousy and thereafter guilt. Sighing slightly he threw himself onto the ground. Landing on all four like a cat would and leaped off transforming midway into a black feline and darting towards the village. He had a place to be.

There was a young child in the village. A beautiful and frail little thing. She was known to be sickly and the doctors had said that it was just a matter of time before her life would be taken by the mercy of god. Her mother had been devastated and poured her sorrows onto the bottom of the bottle back at the local inn. There was no one out there to care for the poor child who - like the angel she appeared to be, not in truth but in spirits - continued to smile at the moon and look wishfully out her window. She was no older than seven summers and Atkaviir had visited her every night since two years past.

Leaping up the wall of the building where he knew the child was sleeping he spotted the open window and crawled inside. The child had been laying in her bed, watching and wishing. She smiled when she spotted the familiar black cat that changed his form into a slightly hunched, slender and red skinned beast. His black horns curled perfectly around his skull and the long tail sprang forth up through his trousers and whipped the air, as if having a mind of its own. She clapped her hands excitedly and lay back against her pillow. The child looked paler than he remembered and his eyes darted around her face.

"Hello Wind, I've missed you so!" The child said, speaking with a voice filled of experience even though she was not old enough to have witness any. She moved over, leaving enough space for the demon to step - for he was tall - into her bed and lay down on top the covers, one arm underneath his neck, next to her. "Good evening, my darling. How has the day feared?" He asked, eyes resting on her round face. She smiled at him and wrapped her arms around his arm before taking a grip of his tail - like she always did. "I am fine, husband of mine." She giggled and it caused him to smile. This game had been going on for quite some time. The child had been wishing for an angel out the window and he had appeared - she believing he was a gift from god and instantly decided that they were to be wed. Like the dreamful child she was.

He lay there for hours, talking to the girl that couldn't stop smiling in his presence. She hugged his armor and sooner or later dropped asleep next to him, just as the sun came up over the horizon. Atkaviir moved away from the child, gently and carefully to make sure she wouldn't wake. He heard the noise of a drunken woman over the stairs a level below and threw himself at the window, transforming in midfall and landed on the street below like the black cat he had been before.

A new day had waken and he couldn't wait to see what would unfold.

It's beautiful
, she thought, while watching the sun rise. Slowly it lightened everything up. Every little detail in the little village. And it was beautiful. So beautiful.

Shay was looking out of the window in the bedroom. She always woke up earlier, than everybody else just to see the sun rise. She didn’t know why she loved watching the sun rise, but she felt so peaceful and relaxed. It was like a promise, that today too, would be a cheerful day.

The door made a loud 'creak' when she walked outside. Silent. Don’t wake anyone. She thought, while she stealthily walked down a narrow street, leading towards the small hill. Her favourite place. When Shay wasn’t together with her friends, working or likewise, she was always at the hill. She liked being with everybody else, having fun and so on, but sometimes she just liked to be alone. Watching everything. Besides seeing the sun rise, singing and having fun, Shay liked to watch other people. Other creatures. She enjoyed the thought of knowing other people, without needing to interact with them. It was almost like gathering information about people. Smiling to herself, she began walking up the hill.

A frail ray of sunlight hit her. So frail. So small. It hit her hair, making her tan hair look like gold. The longer she went up, the more rays of sunlight hit her. Her hair, then her stomach, her arms, her face and at last her whole body were covered by the sun. The gentle and warming sun. She smiled. The birds began to sing, the wind began to blow and the sun continued to shine. Shay began to hum, an excited feeling was beginning to spread inside her. The happiness.

As she sat there, she could hear people waking up in the village. Shay could hear loud noises of carts driving trhough the streets, children playing early in the morning and animals complaining about the need of food in their empty bowls. It was the noises of life. Sounds of life. But as people began to wake up and began making noises, the birds also stopped singing. This made Shay a bit disappointed. Fortunately, it wasn't enough to destroy her good mood.

She was sure, this was going to be a wonderful day.

(I'm sorry it took so long to reply, i had a big bunch of work to do today :/ )

The black feline walked up the hill. After drinking milk that had been placed out for him by the innkeepers wife, being petted and played a game with some children who had trouble sleeping he finally decided to leave. Mainly because he could hear the commotion of the priests by the church. He didn't much care for them.

Atkaviir completely missed to notice the girl, a young mortal girl with beautiful hair and a innocent face. He would have recognized her if he had laid an eye on her. Unfortunately he didn't and that was when he climbed the tree, high up he climbed before transforming just to notice the mortal. He shouted out in surprise - not expecting anyone so early in the morning to be outside the village and quickly hid behind the leafs and branches, begging to a God he didn't believe in that she wouldn't notice what he was.

Luckily for the demon the shadows of the leafs covered his skincolour and made his horns look like yet another pair of branches reaching for the deep blue sky above. Atkavirr could just as well have transformed into his human shape but due to panic and the idea of being thrown in the hands of god he had completely neglected that little detail. He grabbed one thick piece of wood and pulled himself higher up, trying his best not to be noticed by the mortal. Not noticing the apple that fell from its perch and landed bounce on the girls head.

Luck was never something Atkaviir had and therefore nothing he believed in. Though he started to wonder if someone had turned their back to him and ripped all the hope of being undiscovered by the village folk. If he had to flee for his wasteful little life he would have to give up the little child. The idea made him scrunch up his face and feel sorrow build within his heart.

(No problem, I got some stuff myself~)

Shay had an uncomfortable feeling of being watched. It was actually really weird, because no one would be up on the hill by now. It was way too early in the morning for anyone to go up there. Except for herself of course. She decided to let it go.

Then.

Bonk. Something hard landed on Shay’s head.

“What..” She stood up while picking up the apple, the thing that had hit her in the head. Naturally, she looked up. The tree over her rustled. Nothing looked unnatural, but Shay had goosebumps all over her body because of the feeling before. It couldn’t be a coincidence. Else she had to be crazy or something.

Determined, that she wasn’t crazy, Shay threw the apple back where it came from. Another ‘bonk’. The tree rustled again.

Shay smiled. She wasn’t crazy. There was something up there.

“I know you’re up there, so come down already..” She said, though it sounded more like a question than an order. The tree didn’t even rustle.

“Come down.” She said again, this time more resolute than before. Nothing happened.

“Well then, you asked for it.” Shay murmured while trying to climb the tree. Because of her lack of strength, it was hard. And when she finally pulled herself up, she was about to fell down.

Shay looked around, and saw something really fast climb higher up. She didn’t knew what it what, but she decided to try to talk to it, while climbing higher up.

“Sorry, i didn’t mean to scare you..” She tried to sounds as gentle as possible, but the creature just climbed higher and higher. So fast. She thought, and pulled herself up once more.

“Come on, i just want to-” her foot slipped, and Shay hit the ground with a loud ‘crash’.

“Ouch..” It wasn’t a long fall, because she weren’t able to get higher than two branches up, but it still hurt. I’m so unlucky. She thought, and sighed.

Shay decided to wait. She sat under the tree, waiting for the creature to come down by itself.

The apple came out of nowhere, he had to admit that he hadn't expect it to fall upwards and it hit his straight in the face, causing him to almost fly backwards. Luckily his tail wrapped itself around the branch he had currently been holding on to and he pulled himself up. He swallowed heavily when he noticed that the girl was climbing up the tree to get him. The girl then slipped and he admitted that he ha d reached out for her in panic. What if you got badly hurt! His fingers had been miles from her and he closed his eyes rightly when she hit the ground.

Atkaviir peeked with one eye down at the girl and realized that she was alright, a bit dazed perhaps but alright. He sighed, relived that his insolence hadn't caused someone their life or freedom. She wanted to talk to him, clearly. Not sure what to do about it he started to climb downwards.

For each step closer to the ground his form began to change. The horns pulled themselves into his skin that rippled with a lighter colour and the tail vanished into a wind of dust. He hung from one of the lower branches and peered at her with big yellow eyes that turned green with one single glance. "I apologize if I scared you... I was just..." He peered upwards and let go of the branch, landing flat on his feet. "Picking some apples."

It was a good enough lie. He pulled his hands behind him, just to make sure that his tail was indeed gone and gave her a sheepish smile before quickly moving forward. "You're not hurt, are you?" He asked, carefully and awfully kindly. He hated to be the cause of mortal pain. It was bad enough that the Gods blamed everything on his kind, he didn't want the blame to be true in any fashion.

Surprised, Shay looked up. Two green eyes stared at her, waiting for an answer.

“No… i’m not hurt..” She answered, still surprised. It wasn’t some kind of animal she saw in the tree, it was a human. With a pair of really pretty green eyes.

I wonder where he came from. Shay thought, while looking at the owner of the green eyes. He had a slender body, and looked just as surprised as her. For a man, he was rather skinny and slim. Not that it mattered, because she thought that he would have looked weird with a big muscular body.

“Who… who are you?” She asked, not sure if it was something you asked someone who just came down from a tree. The man didn’t looked like he wanted to answer, and looked away discreet. Oh… Did i say something wrong?

“Anyways, i’m Shay Yerathiel. But you can just call me Shay!” She said, and smiled. Hoping to break the ice. “I’m living in the village over there.” Shay pointed at the small village, which were all awake by now.

Her gaze went from the city to the man, and from the man to the city. It was rather awkward for her.

“Oh yeah, I’m sorry about before too… I just got really surprised.” She said, and scratched her arm.

The sun shined into her eyes, and she almost had to close them.

Atkaviir shuffled uncomfortable on his feet. What in the world would he tell her? He never needed a fake name as a cat, nor as a human for most people didn't take the time to ask him who he was. This girl looked at him with such intensity that it almost caught him off guard. The little girl used to call him Wind... Was that a name or just something she enjoyed calling him? It sounded odd but it was all he had to go for. He doubted that his real name would make the girl feel safe. It was a rather odd one. "I'm Atkaviir, people call me Wind..." He mumbled as he placed his arms, fingers knitted together over his back.

His name tasted sour in his mouth, it wasn't something he was used to pronounce, not for a long time. The girls name sounded just as strange as his own so perhaps it would pass off as unnoticed? Or maybe it just sounded odd to him. It was rather hard to tell. "Don't worry about it... I would have done the same thing in your shoes." He gave her a happy smile, feeling the slight painful tenseness of his fangs growing back into his skull when he did so - to disguise him even more.

She had mentioned where she lived, something he took no notice off. Mainly because the village was like his home, too - the best description to use but he wouldn't be able to tell her that. The village was small enough for everyone to know each other and therefore saying that he was from there too would just make everything even more complicated.

“Atkaviir, huh?” At first, Shay thought it was a strange name, but it actually suited him well. She pulled her legs up under her, and put her arms around them. That way she felt more comfortable and safe. It was weird, Atkaviir seemed like a nice person, but Shay still felt that something was wrong with him. Maybe she was still surprised or something. She wrapped a bit of her hair around her finger, not knowing what to say.

She looked up at him once again. Studied him. Watched him. Just like she used to do with everything else.

What if the fact i stared at him, made him uncomfortable? She thought, and looked down on the ground. Embarrassed that she stared at him. She leaned onto the tree, trying to relax a bit. And trying to avoid any eye contact.

“Why don’t you come down from the tree?” She asked, not knowing why she had this urge to know more about this person. “Or, are you more comfortable up there?” Shay hastily added. She didn’t want to intrusive. Maybe all Atkaviir wanted, was to get away from her and the tree? She wouldn’t blame him. The whole situation was very awkward, or she thought so.

Shay glanced up on him, waiting to see his reaction on her question. He didn’t move. Maybe he was thinking about what to do.

Atkaviir pulled himself up with the help of two skinny but apparently strong arms. He wasn't certain he wished to come down though he didn't know what good the tree would do. He let go of the wood, stroking his fingers over the bark as he fell downwards and landed on his feet, peering at her silently. It wouldn't do any harm, he assumed. He was quite interested in the female that spoke so kindly with him. "I enjoy heights." He said, trying his best to respond to her question without sounding like a real tool.

The young man walked up to her and slowly sank down into the green grass. His courage came back like a rush of wind as his eye darted up at the sky. The sun was climbing higher and higher for each moment and it caused him to smile. The warmth from the sun was enough to keep anyone in good spirits, he was sure.

Peering at the young female he itched the ask her questions, to hear everything about her stories. He asked her nothing though and quickly averted his gaze, back upwards towards the sky.

Shay watched Atkaviir crawl down from the tree. Happy that he decided to keep her company.

The weather just got better and better. The sun shined, the wind was blowing, not too much and not to less. And as the weather was getting better, Shay’s mood was getting better too.

It was weird, but Shay felt attracted to this young man. And she stole another glance at him once again. He was slender, with light skin and those beautiful green eyes. She tilted her head as he sat down, studying him once again.

“You’re not from this village, right?” She asked, knowing that she has never seen him before. She got chills all over her body, because of a sudden blow from the wind, and she closed her eyes, just feeling the wind and the sun. It was so relaxing. “It’s okay if you don’t feel like answering, i don’t want to be intrusive, but i was just wondering..” She added, so that he didn’t got the wrong idea about her.

(Sorry about my late reply, but i had some trouble yesterday, and was really busy. :c)
