People often mistake magic for science. Simple things that look spectacular if you aren't paying attention. Steam, on the frozen planes, is the most valuable resource one could hold. Tucked away inside small steel balls slightly larger than a mans head, these objects of power where named 'Steam hearts' by those who make them. One steam hearts has the power to keep an entire city running for up too five years. The citys themselves however are even more fantastic as, due to the rapidly changing weather, they are required to be mobile. The massive beasts of steel and steam walk, slide and sometimes fly over the frozen lands. The only towns set up on the ground anymore are based around the massive steam geysers, where the hearts are born.
But that isn't the only thing amazing about this world, the people who live in it are gifted. All those who live in this land have a pool of magic they can tap into, now, in order to really use this they need to spend years training and learning the art before they can say there any good at it. Most people only have one or two spells they can cast, while actual mages have a plethora of spells that can anything, from making water to unfreezing lakes. It truly is amazing!
On the other side of the coin the land also shared by to different monsters that live in the city's and out.
Scythes are the hive like creature that sneak into city's and set up nests on any opening that that lets out even the smallest amount of steam. These human sized creature climb and clamber into the smallest holes in the ships to find a nice place to tuck away. Very dangerous they are a clear threat against everyday folk who want to live in peace.
Then there are the walkers. Massive humanoid beings that walk on there hind legs, they tend to steer clear of city and don't often come near however they have been known to attack city out of rage. Dwarfing the massive steel ships, the walkers and titans in there own right and only the well prepared ever survive an encounter.
This is the land of death. But also of hope.
