Sucks. I really think that something like that should be a priority, or at least some way to unfollow a status update. Sometimes I help someone in a status and then they chat with someone and I've once gotten notifications for like 8 hours because of it. But changing my notification settings then messes with when I do want to see something important from something I do follow.
That will be fixed with the switch back to xF.
