Fantasy Starson Academy for Gifted Students

Cybele

Who was making the others day more? Cybele's eyes lit up hearing him say that  he would love to play for her again, that he would even give her a demo the smile on her lips grew "Thank you Finian. That means a lot to me." Cybele could also play Violin and the acoustic guitar as well, but she was no where near as good as he was.

A small giggle passed her lips as he accidentally uttered the phrase 'Someone actually likes my music!'

"Of coarse people do. You're really good." She exclaimed to comfort his embarrassment before glancing at the teachers who were glaring at them. Her smile didn't fade as she looked down at her hands on her lap. Her finger tapping as if it was tapping to a rhythm of a song on her other hand, this was another nervous tick of hers. She wanted to talk to him a bit more, but from the glares they got from the teachers and the stares from the underclassmen, it didn't look like that would be happening.

"You really think so..?" Louella inquired with a nervous smile as she fiddled with the blue bow tied around the collar of her blouse, a light blush tinting her cheeks out of embarassment.

Louella was grateful for having a friend like Lily supporting her at a rather tense time like this. Truly, she was. The French-Ukrainian had spent more time with the other girl than she had with anybody else in the Academy. She had taken care of her wide variety of needs, and was always there for her when she had any sort of problems, becoming a loyal companion and a nurturing caretaker to Lily throughout the years. And to be honest, she was content with that role, since she knew that Lily was grateful to her as well.

Yet somehow, at this very moment, they seem to have had a role reversal, haven't they?

@Captain Gensokyo

"Yes, at least that's what I think. What's my opinion worth, anyway?" Lily asked in mock dismissal as she flipped a stray strand of hair behind her shoulder and brought her hands back down to her lap. During a bit of their exchange, she had missed a couple of students' taking of the medal, which disappointed her to some degree. She thought she saw Cybele returning to her seat. As a surprise, Lily glanced back in Louella's direction and silently reviewed her current sitting posture.

"Is there something wrong?" Louella tilted her head to the right in slight confusion when she saw Lily glance back at her direction.

With her hands folded atop her lap, Louella smiled softly in inquiry at the other graduating senior. She was genuinely curious about the intensity in Lily's crimson stare as they silently observed her, what she assumed to be, posture. Though for what reason, she may never know for sure. While it was true that they had known each other for a very long time and can even be considered to be close friends with one another, the French-Ukrainian can never assume anything about her, finding it more of a necessity to hear the truth from her lips.

The gothic lolita smiled at her. "No, silly~!" She teased as she gently hit her forearm. With her figure, it wasn't like she was going to be accidentally hurting Louella anytime soon.  As if reading her mind, Lily spoke up. "Yes, I was looking at your posture. You know, posture is often a good indicator of how stressed or relaxed someone is," she said. "Honestly, you look quite tense. Don't worry...this ceremony will be over soon for you," she said consolingly.

Petrova smiled as each Senior came up and received their medal. It was… To watch the small children who she had herded from birth to this moment was oddly saddening. But this was how it was every year, and Petrova wasn’t about to get teary eyed. She was a headmistress, after all.

After each student received their medals, she looked out over the crowd and cleared her throat once. Everyone stopped talking.

“Congratulations!” she smiled and the room filled up with applause. The Seniors sat, patiently awaiting what would come next. “This concludes the Traveling Day ceremony. All underclassmen are now ordered to go back to their dorm rooms and remain there for the entirety of the night. As you know, on this night, curfews are strictly enforced. Any student caught out of bed will be subject to immediate and severe punishment. Seniors will follow Mr. Carson and Miss Bellvue out to the Pavilion and remain there until told otherwise. As of this moment, the Seniors are dismissed. Underclassmen, remain in your seats silently until all Seniors exit.”

Two teachers, a lanky man and a petite woman stood and walked to the western doors. The room was still silent. They pushed open the doors and motioned the Seniors to follow them. Wordlessly, the Seniors all stood and filed out of the auditorium in neat rows of two. They had been rehearsing this exit since senior year began and now was the time to put their planning to fruition.

The night was dark and cool. Clouds hung in the sky like clumps of snow, blurring out the stars. The road beneath their feet was made out of clean concrete and cut through the grass and into a deep oak-filled forest. Crickets chirruped lightly and an owl hooted mournfully.

After a couple of minutes, the Pavilion was in sight. It was large and made of wood and filled with benches. Carson and Bellvue walked up the steps and towards the middle. Then, motioning the students to sit, Bellvue spoke.

“You all can talk, if you want. Just… keep it quiet,” she said. Her smile was faint in the dim light. “Don’t be afraid. Nothing out here will harm you.”

“You can trust us, guys,” Carson chimed in. “Everything is good. Just be patient for a bit. We’ll tell you when you gotta be quieter.”

A soft breeze blew across Liliy's cheeks. Honestly, it was a bit chilly for her here, and she wished this wait wouldn't take too long.

"At least there are people to pass the time with," she optimistically thought. She turned her head subtly to see who her neighbors were here—to her right was Ellie, she knew, and behind her were Finnian and...oh! She nearly forgot Blude in the midst of all this. He hadn't said much, as expected. Now that she mentioned it, she couldn't remember him sitting in the seats at all. In a moment of bold curiosity, the girl started talking to the lanky man with the torn uniform.

Lily flattened out the front of her dress and looked back up. "Hmm...I don't remember you sitting with the rest of us. Where did you go after you received your medal?" She asked in a whisper so as not to disturb the peace of the class' current situation.

Victoria followed the protocol diligently, keeping a steady march and a determined face. The humid and warm air of the auditorium contrasted greatly with that of the outside air, the coolness of it sweeping across her face and cooling her immensely. Almost too much, but it was bearable. She watched as the two teachers gave permission to speak, and stayed quiet as others began talking among themselves. She took a seat instantly, crossing her arms over her chest and resting her stiff body.

Of course, this may have made her come off as cold and serious to other people. But that was her resting face. She didn't loosen up her posture too much, but she loosened up just enough to be able to relax a little.

They were going to leave. What a strange thought. And yet, it relieved her. She had wanted to know, for the longest time, what the outside world was like. She'd finally find out. All her training and preparation was finally going to come in handy. The thought thrilled her, sent shivers down her spine. Combined with the cool breeze, she visibly shook out of excitement.

That certainly didn't happen often.

Regardless, she looked up at the sky. Or, more specifically, at the stars. They were so intricate, painting the night sky in a dancing array of lights. Gorgeous to most, although some might disagree. Shaking her head at the peculiar thought, she discarded it and focused on something else.

Ah, yes. What the outside world might be like. She let her mind toy with the thought for a while, and kept going; unless interrupted by an outside force.

From the looks of it, Victoria was almost zoning out. But the way her eyes were set almost made it look as if she were identifying every defining feature of the sky as best she could. Which, in reality, was false.

Blude remained silent throughout the entire ceremony, tracing each other senior with his eyes. Finnian, Cybele, Victoria... he had memorized each of their names and faces perfectly and without fail. It wasn't out of a feeling of camaraderie, though. He knew every face and every name, down to the newest of students. He needed to know exactly who were the ones he should avoid, separating the good, bad and ugly in his mind.

He looked back over the entire auditorium. The cheery and nervous atmosphere was pushing all the air out of his lungs, not to mention making him gag for reasons outside of his morning sickness. Blude didn't, couldn't and refused to understand what made people so excited about this day. Taking away their safety, their only known world, to be tossed into something unknown. Possibly killed, enslaved or tortured by those with bad intentions outside of the school walls. Such thoughts were wildly unfounded, fueled by the intense paranoia the boy felt.

Before he could sink further back into his own, dark little world again Ms. Petrova snapped him out of it once more. She said it was finally time for the underclassmen to return and the seniors to depart. Blude knew his time was running out, fast. He'd only have a few more moments to enjoy this academy before being tossed into uncertain doom and despair.

Considering his location, the underclassmen all needed to pass Blude as they made their way out of the auditorium. Some of them stopped others from looking or laughing at him, whilst the rest either ignored or scoffed at the lanky boy. They rose up from their corner, weakly and with shaky legs, following the wall to meet back up with his fellow graduates. Even as they left through the door, Blude stayed in the back and kept his distance. He did not want to be caught up in this maelstrom of 'excitement' and 'nervousness' they all felt.

The wind was practically tearing through the boy's meager clothing, causing him to shake for an entirely different reason now. For anyone else it was maybe a bit chilly, but Blude was freezing. He couldn't handle cold or heat and his body would sway to either extreme, causing him some needless comfort. He stalked the rest like a shadow, creating a ghoulish sight for any who looked back.

When they arrived at the pavilion, Blude wasn't very pleased. The only place to reasonably sit was inside of the pavilion, which the students naturally flocked to the moment they saw it. Blude would have loved to stay outside of it, but somehow he figured the teachers wouldn't allow it.

Blude took his seat on the benches. The boy sat hunched over, head hanging down with both his elbows resting on his knees. His long, black hair fell forward and partially covered his eyesight, though it didn't matter as he was staring at a wooden floorboard. He was zoning out and not paying attention to who was next to or in front of him. That turned out to be a mistake, because after a few serene moments a voice that was clearly addressing him broke the silence. Lily. She asked about his whereabouts, clearly not having bothered to look at him when he was stumbling away from the podium. If she had, she'd known he'd taken refuge in the corner.

"..." Blude remained silent for a few uncomfortable seconds as he turned his head to Lily. His hair was still partially covering his face. The boy wasn't bothering with wiping it away. "Do... you really care? If you did... you knew I... was in the corner." He spoke with very awkward pauses, almost as if he was forcing himself to talk. His voice was hoarse, but not by nature. It was simply a side effect of the many times he'd thrown up today.

Blude stared back out in front of him, past Lily and bit his lip. He shouldn't have looked at the little dark mage, because by tilting his head he'd seen Finnian sitting next to him in passing. The obnoxious loudmouth who made sure to 'liven' up the dorms at night.

"You're all... so excited. I don't get... it." Despite his better judgement, Blude continued the conversation. If he was stuck with them anyway, he might as well learn what makes everyone so thick.

Lily gave him a passive, but amused roll of the eyes. "Oh? Why aren't you? We are all the young minds whom the world will look to for answers, aren't we? Well..." she glanced around and returned to the admittedly one-sided conversation. "...some more than others."

"Hmm~" Louella hummed quietly underneath her breath as Lily and Blude conversed with one another, a soft smile gracing her lips.

It gave Louella a warm and fluffy feeling to see the usually introverted and silent young man open up to her self-confident and adventurous close friend, akin to a mother seeing her child cheerfully play with newfound friends. Though she and Blude never really spent much time with one another, the French-Ukrainian often took care of him whenever he was brought to the infirmary, as she regularly helped out there when she had the time to. She always felt guilt well up in her whenever she saw the harsh treatment he had endured at the academy, and always wished that she could do something about it. Alas, though, she could never make it stop, even if she tried to.

Louella can only hope that he would be able to live contentedly once they part ways.

Finian enjoyed seeing the clouds, the night sky, everything! He enjoyed every bit of it. The environment was just well, great! He grinned, looking around from the scenery to the students around him. He noticed Lily in front of him. Of course he knew her, he knew everyone just never really found the time to properly converse. Especially since they never really wanted to talk to them.

The messy haired boy found it great to see Blude finally speaking to others. Finian would give him a high five if he weren't trying to not frighten the guy. He might as well talk at some point.

But for now he was just humming one of his newest songs while looking around a bit more. He was going to miss playing his music in full volume in his dorm at night. He was going to miss skateboarding on school ground. He was going to miss everything.

Thinking about that he noticed himself frowning. That wasn't right. Finian quickly smiled once more, a fake one honestly. He then looked at the students around him again. Time to do what he does best.

Talk.

Gab remained silent for the remainder of the ceremony, leaning back on the seat, occasionally glancing over to the other seniors who were excitedly talking with each other. He would too, if he had the chance. But those around him were busy in their own conversations. Ah well, less energy spend meant more energy to spare. Ms. Petrova congratulated them, just like how she congratulated the previous senior years, and then asked them to follow Mr. Carson and Ms. Bellvue.

Like the others, he stuck to protocol as much as he can. Well, he did slip his left hand in his pocket and his right hand to loosen his tie for the nth time this day. Once they were outside the auditorium, he felt alive. More than any of the other students. Why? Because he was an animal, in a sense. He didn't want to be confined in one small space. He wanted to run around freely. It was the main reason why he couldn't sleep indoors.

They reached the Pavilion soon enough and it was still dead silent. He looked around. The other students were tense. The excited atmosphere from earlier disappeared and was replaced with a tense one. However, when they were allowed to speak, the others students began talking with each other, in hushed voices. They said nothing would harm them yet they needed to stay quiet.

Why?

But Gab didn't dwell on that too much. He just looked forward to being free of this cage of his and experiencing life outside the campus grounds. But it also made his heart beat faster. The thought of entering something so alien to him is something that both scares him and excites him, just like most people. There were others out there who didn't have powers like them. Others who would find them odd. They were thought to keep their powers in check as to not scare said people. They were special.

He sat down on one of the benches, eyes on his shoes as he tapped his foot repeatedly. When were those black vans coming? As minutes ticked by, he became more and more doubtful whether or not it's actually a good idea to go out there. He took a deep breath to silence these thoughts. No. He had to live life a little. They were protected in here, no risk, no excitement.

Looking to his right, Finian was there, looking around at the students. He waved and said, "Hey Fin. Excited to experience life outside the campus?"

Cybele Haniyasu

Cybele lined up with the other seniors, now exiting the auditorium. Her eyes fell on the lanky boy in the corner. The strong paranoid aura resonating off of him hit the girl like a tone of bricks. It almost reminded her of an animal seeing a human for the first time. She flashed Blude a soft smile. One that she commonly used to ease the paranoia of animals, buy since he wasn't an animal, it wouldn't really do much but to show she acknowledge his presence.

The chilly night breeze blew by the girl sending her long green hair to follow the direction the wind was going. Her head tilted up to look at the beautiful night sky, thinking of all the possibilities that this new world had to offer, the new animals she would see, the new plants. The very thought made her happy. She was snapped back into reality when she felt something land on her shoulder. She turned her head to see an owl had perched itself on her. A soft chuckle passed her lips as she extended her arm out with her two fingers pointing outward. The owl climbed down her arm and stopped once at her fingers. The owl hooted as it looked at her. She took her free hand and used it to pet the birds head gently. It's eyes closed with each gentle stroke. Once they made it to the Pavilion, Cybele took a seat on one of the wooden benches. Her eyes scanned around to see finnian beside of her, blude and Lily in front of her. Gab was on the other side of Finnian. She listened to the conversations that took place behind her. She didn't have anyone to speak to because they all looked so busy wrapped up in their thoughts and own conversations. She looked down at the owl and place it gently in her lap as it nestled itself in her skirt. She continued stroking it's head gently.

Finian needed to make himself feel better. He needed to act like his usual self. So that no one would question or find him odder than he usually is. Looking nervous and doubtful can destroy his image! Not that it mattered anymore seeing that he already graduated.

"Hey Fin. Excited to experience life outside campus?" He heard someone say. Finian turned around to see who it was. It was Gab. He knew him from the times Finian would attempt to play soccer. Fin was glad that Gab would usually pick him in his team to play. Usually because the opposing side didn't want him.

Finian keeps his fake smile on. "Yeah, cant wait actually. You?" He sounded a bit quiet. Stupid Fin you're showing how nervous you are!

He fiddeled with his highlighted hair, trying to distract himself from his quiet statment a while back. Finian awaited the answer from Gab no less.

Gab raised an eyebrow at Finian's reply. Not because of the reply itself, but how he delivered it. This person he was talking to was a jovial person from what Gab could see and remember, and yet this reply was quieter than most. Was something wrong? But Gab decided not to question it. Finian would share his problems if he saw fit, and Gab wasn't going to force it out of him.

"Same as you." He replied with a smile on his face. "Don't mistake me, I love Starson and all... but it feels constricted in here... you know?"

He wasn't sure if anyone felt the same way as he did. He always blamed his animalistic instincts for that kind of thinking. He wanted to run around without being monitored twenty-four-seven. He wanted to do his own thing without being reprimanded. But that was just plain barbaric, that was what he thought .But he just couldn't stop himself. Perhaps it is because he spends so much time in animal form that he began thinking like one, feeling like one...

Hearing the flapping of wings, Gab's attention was turned to the owl on Cybele's shoulder. He tilted his head to the side as he continued to observe the owl as Cybele started to pet it. He always did appreciate Cybele's kindness to animals. Heck, she even extended that kindness to him. He wasn't sure if she mistakes him for a real animal when she sometimes pets him when he's in animal form. The collar usually gives it away but she does it anyway. It was weird, but it felt good in a way.

Cybele Haniyasu

Cybele let out a soft chuckle hearing Finians quiet voice. She never thought that he would be one to have doubts about going out into the world. Her eyes closed as she listened to Gab.

"I feel everyone here is a bit nervous to go to the outside world. It's like a baby bird about to fly for the first time. They are hesitant and even a little frightened to leave the safety and comfort of their mothers nest, but at the same time they want to go out and explore what the world has to show them." She said as she flashed a kind smile over at the two. The owl nestled into Cybele's lap, it's large eyes half closed as if it was about to fall asleep. Her eyes fell on Gab. She never mentioned it to him before, but she knew by the collar that it was him when he turned into his animal form. Either way she still would pet him and treat him with the same kindness she showed all the other animals.

@AI10100 @eero-prince

"..."

What answers? What could the outside world possibly gain from a posse of sheltered kids? Even if it was down to their special powers, many more have left these grounds before them. The world couldn't possibly gain anything from them, at least nothing of value. Blude frowned.

"You're... naive, did you... know that?" Blude croaked in reply to Lily, looking back down at the floor. As he suspected, the girl's optimism was founded on nothing but fantasy and delusion. They wouldn't see eye-to-eye on this. An uncomfortable aura hung in the air, or at least, he thought he felt one. Something akin to pity. Blude's eyes shifted around in the darkness, trying to find the source of said pity.

His eyes fell on Louella, who he caught giving him a cursory glance. She was a nice person, but that wasn't reassuring to him. Every time Louella helped the unhealthy boy out, she had this sad look on her face. It always felt like a dead giveaway that the girl only helped him because she felt sorry for him. Because he came across as weak and helpless. She helped him out of a sense of duty, not because of any innate characteristic of Blude's.

He hated that. It was only a mask of kindness to him, something you put on to get others to like you more because you're such a good person. 'Look at her, comforting the strange kid! She's so kind and caring, she'd probably be my friend!' is what Blude imagined the desired reaction to be.

Well, at least he wouldn't fall for that facade. On the subject of kindness, Blude's body jerked as the owl hooted, reflexively causing the boy's attention to be pulled to the small animal. Cybele. If Louella gave off the impression she was trying to be a goody two-shoes, Cybele would be a good three-shoes. The girl that nobody would dare think ill of. The kind and popular soul, renowned by everyone. A real 'school goddess', and Blude envied that. The natural charm to just flock people to you. The whole 'kind soul' act infuriated him even more than with Louella, because this seemed like an even more blatant attempt to manipulate people. Once they passed the school border, no doubt some poor saps would flock to her like bees to their queen.

Blude blinked twice, catching himself in the act of staring. He quickly broke the gaze and stared out in front of him again before people go the wrong idea. He'd zoned out to the rest of the conversation, mentally cursing himself for it. He'd wanted to know more about the others, to see if their front matches up with their actual intention. He balled up his hand into a fist, unkempt nails digging into the skin.

"...And what do... you all... expect to use your powers... with or for?" Blude suddenly commented, trying to shift to a topic he feels would be the most informative. It was kind of a dumb question, though. Obviously they'd answer 'for the greater good' or some cheesy hogwash like that. People have trouble being honest like that.

"Because mine... are a curse to... everyone." Blude added in, unsure of why. Perhaps to scare the rest? Tell them to be afraid? Maybe it was purely to inform them of his thoughts. He didn't know. Carrying a conversation was foreign to him. It seemed like it was the only thing Blude was able to do to pass the time, though.

Louella flinched slightly at the cold fury she saw in Blude's usually blank gaze as he glanced back at her. Her bright teal eyes averted themselves to the ground in shame and dejection. She had a feeling that it was because of her voluntary kindness towards him, but she had a perfectly good reason for doing so. While she wasn't exactly sure what that reason was, she couldn't help but want to see him develop as a person. To see him create his own path towards the future. She thought that by looking after him, she would be able to get him out of his shell, get to know him better, but it seems she failed.

"... I'm sorry..." Louella muttered softly underneath her breath unintentionally, a slight frown marring her lips.

He nodded his head, understanding what Gab said. At times like this he slightly envied Gab for being do relaxed and still not be hated or judged. And even if he was Gab wouldn't care. Finian admired that. He could never do anything like that he would always think about all the judgement after talking. No matter how grinny and funny he was. You could say that was just a mask he wears to try and fit in.

Juniper as well possesed the ability to transform into animals and his appearance. But he made it obvious it was him. Like the one time he transformed into a bird with black feathers. But that was not all, the black feathers had streaks of white, blue, and pink. Strange honestly.

Finian's gaze changed from Cybele and Gab to somewhere else. He noticed he was looking directly at Blude. Ah yes, Blude. The strange guy who never really fit in with the rest of the students. A bit like Fin. Except the fact that Juniper tried to while Blude doesn't seem to care whether he fits in or not.

Finian has talked to Mr. Blude before, quite a lot actually. You know which his constant attempts to be friends with the guy. Or the times Fin would blast music that can be heard from basically at least 1/4 of the school at night. But he meant well, he just wanted a friend he fan be well, real with. Someone he can be himself around and he thought Blude was good choice. Since there was something about him. Probably his uninterest for Fin whatsoever.

Especially the times Juniper would just talk to him. He enjoyed the talks with Blude but a part of him suspected that Blude didn't. That was okay to Fin though, he knew it was Blude being Blude. Finian couldn't change that.

The messily hair styled boy gave Blude a little wave with a small smile. Which was very different from Fin's grins and really big waves and loud greetings.

What was up with Finian lately? Probably the pressure of the fact of leaving a place he's been in for so long.

Cybele Haniyasu

Cybele closed her eyes as she heard Bludes question. She pondered it for a mere moment before shrugging her shoulders. "I don't know what I will use my abilities for. My sole intent at the moment when we leave is to see the different animals and plants that the world has to offer. Once I accomplish that goal, maybe then I'll try to figure out what my abilities could be used for." She stated bluntly. Despite her well known kind nature, Cybele was also very known for her blunt honesty. Though she never kept her intentions for leaving to be a secret.

Her head turned towards Blude. "If you don't know what you will do, or where you will go once we leave, I would be happy if you would join me. But if you don't want to, I understand that as well." She said with her usual warm smile. Cybele was always fond of Blude, even if the feeling wasn't mutual. Hell he helped her once when they were younger. She used to get picked on a lot because her natural hair color was green, which was an unusual color for humans to have, but due to her abilities with nature, she was stuck with the color. But they were kids and she figured he probably didn't remember that, or if he did that he probably thought it didn't mean anything to her. Her hand gently nudged the owl on her lap as it sat up and spread it's wings before taking off away from the Pavilion.

Finian had merely replied with a nod to his statement. But Cybele had commented about it. Liking the seniors as baby birds taking their first flight away from the nest. Well, it certainly did seem that way. While he was all for the thought of getting out of the school, he won't deny that he still doubted if it's a good idea. Even the most excited of students were like that. Gab is just too lazy to think too deeply into it. "Well, we don't have much of a choice anyway. We certainly can't stay here. They wont allow us." He continued. One of the main reasons why he's looking forward to it is because he has no choice but to do so.

He then looked towards Blude as he posed a question. A question that even Gab was thinking hard about. Cybele had replied with her wanting to just explore the fauna and flora the world has the offer. "Me? Well, I don't really know either. I guess I'll know when to use it when the time comes. But I'd think I'd use it for my own personal interests." While he would use it to help others, it all boils down to how he feels at that moment of time. He honestly wasn't sure on how he'll be able to use his powers outside. He'd probably use it for petty things such as turning into an animal for food, or to fly over crowds to get to somewhere quicker.

Blude's next statement doesn't really surprise Gab. The guy doesn't seem to like his powers very much. Well, the power of flesh and blood doesn't seem to be all too inviting. And with an attitude like Blude's? Well, it would be the likeliest result. "Well, if you think of it as a curse, then it is. But maybe one day you'll find a way for your powers to become a blessing..." He then stopped. "Or maybe not. Who knows." He wasn't trying to lift his spirits, not by a long shot. He knows fully well that his brutally honest way is something that wouldn't be considered optimistic by most. But for him, that's already looking at the bright side.

Minutes turned to hours as the students sat in the Pavilion. When the first hour had passed, no one seemed to notice. They were all too busy talking to register the passage of time. However, it was growing late. An uneasiness began to churn about the room and students caught themselves looking around at each other, waiting for something to change.

Carson and Bellvue, however, were just as nonchalant as when they arrived. Bellvue sat on a bench and clasped her hands together in her lap. Carson stood off by the side, whistling a tune none of the students recognized.

Bellvue could sense the tenseness in the air. “I remember by Traveling Day. It was almost just like this. And Petrova was still headmistress back then.” None of the students could ever recall a time when Petrova wasn’t there or she wasn’t headmistress. “I wish I could tell you all more, but that would spoil the fun of it.”

The students listening nodded uneasily. So this was Traveling Day? They had been told it was the day they would be free to see the world; a day where they would be given their purpose.

Suddenly, Bellvue stood. Carson straightened. It was the sound of tires on gravel, many tires. The teachers nodded to each other swiftly.

“It looks like it’s time, guys,” Carson said. “If you do what you’re told and remember your schooling, you should be fine.”

The sound grew louder. Off in the distance, over the hills, approached a line of jet black trucks. They were all identical. Four large wheels in a black shell. It was gigantic, yet it quiet. The only sound was the crunch of gravel.

All the students went silent. Nearer and nearer the trucks came until they were just in front of them. Only then could you see how huge these trucks were, they towered over everything.

Then, a single door opened. It was from the truck leading the line. A tall man stepped out, along with a short woman. They walked over and stood in front of the Pavilion, their eyes running over the students as if they were looking at products at a supermarket. Carson and Bellvue stood at attention and saluted, a strange motion that none of the students had seen before.

“At ease, Educators,” the woman said. The teacher’s shoulders slumped.

The tall man was impassive.  His face was soft, but there was a chilling ferocity behind it. He had piercing blue eyes and such light blonde hair that it looked almost white. He was tall, taller than most of the teachers at Starson and he wore a well-tailored uniform, adorned with many strange medals that glinted in the headlights of the vans.

And then he spoke. A single word. “Begin.”

The woman lifted her hands and there was a flash of blinding light. Before the students could even realize it, soldiers in jet black uniforms had appeared before each one of them, binding their hands and covering their eyes. Some students shrieked in surprise, other were shocked into silence.

And then the man spoke again. “Let them be ours.”

And the students felt their limbs go weak and unresponsive and their powers dissipate. They could barely walk, they felt so thin. Then, they were all herded onto vans and shut away.

After the deed was done, the man nodded to the teachers. He and the woman walked back to their van and got in. Slowly, the procession started up again and pulled away from the Pavilion and into the dark of the night.

White noise.

That's what Victoria heard around her. It buzzed around her ears in a never ending stream, breaking her flow of thoughts and causing her to mentally wish that the white noise wasn't just a sound. Maybe something that was alive.

Why?

So she could have Bastion rip its throat out. Or do something else to it. Either way, she despised it.

There was a moment where everything stopped, and the white noise was skewered and thrown to the side. What had done it? What had eased the burden in her ears? Returning to reality, she saw the vans. Pristine, silent, and foreboding. Those were the first words to pop into her mind. Before she knew it, they were in front of them all.

Two people came out.

Then more, like trained shadows. They appeared from nowhere.

She was bound before she knew it, the entire procedure so perfectly planned that she felt a surge of happiness.

It was happening. With grace and beauty, the soldiers carried out everything in a clean and efficient way. It was...

Marvelous.

Then a very, very strange sensation settled over her as she collapsed to the ground in utter disbelief.

She had lost all feeling.

It was as if her mind had been placed into the perspective of a sack of flour. She could do nothing but feel the sack be moved from the ground into one of the vans.

It was dark. But the feeling of blissful surprise had settled in her stomach, and she waited silently for something else to happen. The feeling was so numbing, so pleasant. It was true relaxation. Pure. It eased her rigor temporarily and allowed her a moment of freedom. She may even fall asleep...

Cybele Haniyasu

As minutes turned to hours, Cybele begun to feel a mixture of sleepiness and boredom. Her back leaned against the wooden frame of the bench. Her eyes closed as she felt herself starting to drift off to sleep, that is until she heard the odd sound of tires on rubber. Her eyes opened a bit as the sound grew louder and the large black trucks came into view. She snapped out of her sleepy state when they had parked in front of the pavilion. She stood up once she saw the tall man and short woman step out. She stared at them as they spoke. Then she heard the tall man speak.

'Begin'

It was that one word that sent shivers down her spine. Her eyes closed tight when the bright light shines in her eyes, before she had a moment to react she had felt her hands getting restrained and she felt something getting tied around her eyes.

'What is going on!?'

She thought to herself, though the words didn't seem to come out as she begun to feel real weak and thin. She collapsed to her knees unable to keep herself standing. She felt someone pick her up and place her on something leathery. The shock caused her to lose consciousness and she was out for the rest of this long journey.

Gab didn't know how many times he has looked at his watch but he assumed it had to have been less than thirty times by now. His eyes left his watch again and he stared at their instructors. They spoke but Gab wasn't paying too much attention. When he heard the unfamiliar sound of tires crunching against the rocks, he lifted his head to look at the four jet black vans approaching them. There was initially a grin on his face.

Then this man came out and his grin was nowhere to be found.

The teachers did something with their hands at them. A salute, Gab thinks they were called. It's an unfamiliar gesture, but something he has read somewhere. Where, he forgot. But that wasn't the point.

The blonde man in front of them... You know the feeling when an animal becomes submissive under power? Or wants to run away from said power? That instinct enveloped his entire body. He wanted to run away. He wanted to get away from him. But something told him to stay still. Perhaps it was because of the fact that they were their ride out.

Begin.

It all happened so fast after the woman raised her hand. People came out of nowhere and began restraining all of them. Gab's initial reaction was to transform into a bird, or a rat, or anything to get out! But he couldn't. His eyes were covered but he could still hear them.

Let them be ours.

He felt his strength leave his body. He really lost his ability to transform this time. He was pushed into what he assumed was the van with the other students. He lay there, hearing and smell on full alert. He knew that struggling would prove futile. The bounds were too tight. Was this really the beginning of his freedom? Or was it something else? Either way, this was not the farewell ceremony he expected.
