Fantasy Starson Academy for Gifted Students

Minutes turned to hours as the students sat in the Pavilion. When the first hour had passed, no one seemed to notice. They were all too busy talking to register the passage of time. However, it was growing late. An uneasiness began to churn about the room and students caught themselves looking around at each other, waiting for something to change.

Carson and Bellvue, however, were just as nonchalant as when they arrived. Bellvue sat on a bench and clasped her hands together in her lap. Carson stood off by the side, whistling a tune none of the students recognized.

     Lily was willing to be patient in these circumstances, but there comes a point in time when anyone would begin to question what was taking so long. She sighed annoyedly as she brushed the base of her dress and crossed her arms. Was this really professional to keep her waiting like this?

Bellvue could sense the tenseness in the air. “I remember by Traveling Day. It was almost just like this. And Petrova was still headmistress back then.” None of the students could ever recall a time when Petrova wasn’t there or she wasn’t headmistress. “I wish I could tell you all more, but that would spoil the fun of it.”

The students listening nodded uneasily. So this was Traveling Day? They had been told it was the day they would be free to see the world; a day where they would be given their purpose.

Suddenly, Bellvue stood. Carson straightened. It was the sound of tires on gravel, many tires. The teachers nodded to each other swiftly.

“It looks like it’s time, guys,” Carson said. “If you do what you’re told and remember your schooling, you should be fine.”

     Lily relievedly smiled and stood up from the bench, her legs urging her to move around some more after waiting hours on a bench. She paced back and forth with her hands clasped behind her back as she waited for their transportation to arrive.

The sound grew louder. Off in the distance, over the hills, approached a line of jet black trucks. They were all identical. Four large wheels in a black shell. It was gigantic, yet it quiet. The only sound was the crunch of gravel.

All the students went silent. Nearer and nearer the trucks came until they were just in front of them. Only then could you see how huge these trucks were, they towered over everything.

Then, a single door opened. It was from the truck leading the line. A tall man stepped out, along with a short woman. They walked over and stood in front of the Pavilion, their eyes running over the students as if they were looking at products at a supermarket. Carson and Bellvue stood at attention and saluted, a strange motion that none of the students had seen before.

“At ease, Educators,” the woman said. The teacher’s shoulders slumped.

The tall man was impassive.  His face was soft, but there was a chilling ferocity behind it. He had piercing blue eyes and such light blonde hair that it looked almost white. He was tall, taller than most of the teachers at Starson and he wore a well-tailored uniform, adorned with many strange medals that glinted in the headlights of the vans.

     "Ah, finally..." she thought. The girl wore a pleasant smile on her face as she wondered about the accomodations that must have been prepared for her already for the long journey to—well—wherever they were all being taken. Just as she was about to walk towards the van, greet their hosts, and take her seat...

And then he spoke. A single word. “Begin.”

The woman lifted her hands and there was a flash of blinding light. Before the students could even realize it, soldiers in jet black uniforms had appeared before each one of them, binding their hands and covering their eyes. Some students shrieked in surprise, other were shocked into silence.

     Lily grimaced as her eyes were forced shut by the burst of light, her whole body flinching at the sudden change. Suddenly, she was being bound from the back-side. Was all of this really necessary? Before she was able to ask any questions...

And then the man spoke again. “Let them be ours.”

And the students felt their limbs go weak and unresponsive and their powers dissipate. They could barely walk, they felt so thin. Then, they were all herded onto vans and shut away.

     "U-ungh...!" she cried as she limply fell to the ground. She clutched desperately at the blades of grass grazing her red nails. Why did she feel so light? Her best efforts failing, Lily succumbed to her unconsciousness as she was carried away.

Hours Later...

     A look of disomfort was plastered onto Lily's porcelain, doll-like face. Her eyelids couldn't find the strength to open, no matter what she tried. Wherever she must have been taken was extremely well lit. Her vision behind her closed eyelids was painted a pure white by the light being shone directly into her face.

      Her audible complaining could be heard throughout the back of the black van as she squirmed around to find a way to sleep.

Louella sat in complete and utter silence, a look of worry plastered on her face. With her hands bound and her eyes covered with cloth, there wasn't much that she could do in that situation, especially since she couldn't quite get her abilities to respond to her will anymore. Not only that, but she's never felt this weak before in her entire life. All that arduous and strenuous labor, all those days she spent helping the people around her, all of the smiles of gratitude and appreciation she had earned for the past few years. She felt as though she had just been stripped of all of those times and had been left as she was when she was a just a child.

And the French-Ukrainian would rather not relive those childhood memories of hers. The times when she was weak, a crybaby who couldn't protect herself and the people around her. As she began to remember those rough days, she felt a shiver run down her spine.

Finian waited for what seemed like hours. Nothing seemed to go on. He sighed, this was taking quite a while and Fin was starting to feel a bit sleepy.

Until something finally happened.

Miss Bellvue finally spoke up. He sighed in relief. So this was when travelling day started the travel. Finian placed his hands at the back of his neck casually. He was ready to go.

Well, he hoped so. Fin was still figuring out what he should do with his life when he finally left.

And then the vans appeared.

"Took you long enough." That was something he wanted to say. Though he had a sense of manners and just stood there quiet, fighting the urge to give a wave at their hosts and what seems to be their transportation. Don't call him crazy but he did kinda get a bad aura  looking at the vans and their massive size. Not to mention the uneasy feeling he had when the short lady and tall man who exited one of the vans. But that must be all in his head.

The sudden light was not pleasing. He winced and squinted at the first sight of it. And before Finian knew it his hands were grabbed from the back and his sight was covered.

"What the- Hey!" He struggled a bit. What was going on? Finian couldn't struggle anymore once he started going weak. He fell to the ground rather quickly, he felt so light headed he couldn't do much. Finian just had to comply as he was carried to one of the respected vans.

Unlike other students Finian couldn't find a way to shut his eyes. He felt like if he closed them he might never see anything else again. Sounds kinda silly but understandable in a situation like this. He was feeling a lot of emotions at this time, fear, anger, confusion.

Finian started to do what he usually did best, talk. He started to shout, complaining, asking what was happening, basically anything to keep the van from going silent. Juniper hated silence. No, more like feared it. He would always feel uncomfortable when either him or where he was went silent.

He was weak yes, and his complaining and noise started to fade like a candle's fire flickering but his eyes stayed glued open. Like his body, no matter what was his condition, did not want to go into darkness. Finian did not sleep the entire time. Not unless someone else there was awake. He looked scared and was scared. Like a child in the dark.

     Lily continued to groan in discomfort in the cramped space of the van. She needed something to take her mind off of the horribly demeaning circumstances she was in.

     "...Is anyone else in this room with me?" She asked pathetically. For all she hoped, she hoped that someone here was willing to talk to her. It wasn't going to be embarrassment that would kill her--at this rate, boredom would kill her faster. "Please~..." she whined.

A voice spoke up inside the van where Zack had been sleeping. He'd been late to the ceremony, and was ushered into a van quickly. The space was small, but enough for Zack to curl up and get some winks in. However, he was, sadly, now awake. "Yeah, I'm here. What do you need?" This kid better have a good reason to wake him up like that. Do they even know how hard it was to sleep in here? No pillows, no blankets, and no space, it felt like a cage for people.

@Captain Gensokyo

     "Zachary! Can you see anything...?" Lily pleaded as she fiddled with her fingers inside the white space. Though her hands were tied, she could still move her arms and fingers to some degree.

Victoria was semi-conscious, her eyelids half-closed. Lily's voice caused her to come back to reality slightly, although she was suddenly tired and sore. Groaning, she shifted slightly. "Ngh... I... I think so..." She replied drowsily. Her entire body hurt. Although, it wasn't agonizing. More unpleasant than anything else, she decided. Upon hearing another voice, she seemed to remember her current predicament. It caused a feeling of loneliness. Coming to this realization, she began to mentally call out for Bastion. Nothing. He was gone. Savanna was gone, too... Even Reginald. "... I can't use my abilities..." She breathed, hoping someone would be able to relate. She needed someone to relate. For her comfort... Fear instantly sprang up in her chest, but she knew freaking out wouldn't do her any good. She couldn't see anything, much less devise a plan. Besides, without her familiars... What was she to do..?!

@Captain Gensokyo @Yoshiro

"Right here Lily." Gab was awake, he couldn't sleep. Even if he was tired as hell, he felt restless. An animal never liked it when they were bound or caged. So he just lied there, torso leaning on the wall. He still couldn't see anything though. Zack was there too, though he sounds like he was roused from his sleep. He then head Victoria speak up, about her problem of not using her powers. He concentrated. He wanted to turn into a dog, a worm, a roach, anything really. But he couldn't. "Can't use mine either. Guess they made precautions so we can't escape." Loathe as he to admit, he relied on his powers for a lot of things. And this was one of those things.

@Captain Gensokyo @MoltenLightning @Yoshiro

Ah, great, more people. It was really turning into a party now. Zack hated parties. "No, Lily. Can't really do much from where I am. And would you stop calling me that? We're not in school anymore, so cut the formality. It's Zack, okay?"  He'd never really liked the "rich snob" vibe that emanated from her. It didn't help that she was a person either. Zack listened to what sounded like other kids. It might have been those kids Joshua and Victoria. He tried to sit up, but was surprised to find that he too was bound.

Well, wasn't this just fantastic?

@AI10100 @Captain Gensokyo @MoltenLightning

"H-Hello?" He spoke up. Finian needed to make sure he wasn't alone. It would suck if he was. He didn't know what to do. Juniper just awaited for a reply. He felt so lonely with the silence. And like stated before, he hated silence.

Finian was scared. Like a child waking up to their room pitch black. This brought back child memories he never want to go back to. It wasn't anything serious but just normal child traumas and such. Except for one thing, his nightmares as a kid felt so real, and when he woke up it was like he was still in a state of sleep, experiencing a bad dream again. Like it couldn't stop until someone finally woke up and turned on his lights. It went on like that for quite a while. Maybe this was the reason people like teachers and the councelor worried about him and his daily life.

But that didn't matter anymore. Those people weren't here to care and worry for Finian. "This.... This is just a bad dream...." Finian whispered to himself. "You can get through this..."

Louella was immediately shaken out of her fear-induced trance when she heard Finian's mutterings to himself, reminding her of someone that she once knew quite well in her past. She silently wondered who it was, a thoughtful look crossing her features, when suddenly, it hit her. Her bright teal eyes, though covered with a piece of cloth, softened as the French-Ukrainian finally remembered.

'Ah, that's right.' Louella thought to herself, a solemn smile spreading across her lips. 'He reminded me of myself.'

"You're not alone, Finian." Louella whispered softly, knowing that the younger boy would hear her words. "You're never truly alone."

@eero-prince

     "But Zachary sounds a lot less ordinary, wouldn't you say?" Lily asked him rhetorically as she fiddled around some in her spot. "Huuuu~ I wish I could see..."

     Lily could hear Ellie's voice now, which put her more at ease.

Cybele Haniyasu

Despite her passing out from feeling do weak, she had begun to wake up from Finian and Louella talking. Her eyes still covered by the blindfold as she did her best to sit up. "Finian? Louella?" She said in a voice that had a mixture of sleepiness and weakness to it. She struggled to stay conscious at this point, though it probably would have been better for her to have slept the whole time, maybe then the situation wouldn't have seemed so awful.

Wiggling around a bit she felt herself bump against someone, though she couldn't tell if it had been Finian or Louella. "S..sorry to bump whoever it is I just hit." She said trying to get her hands free from the restrains. She was beginning the wander if anyone else was in the van since she woke up originally only hearing Finian and Louella.

Ordinary? What did it matter if it was ordinary or not?

But this wasnt really the time to be debating the issue. What mattered was figuring out their situation. "Anyone got any good jokes? I need something to occupy you all to let me think."

Not as many people had replied as Blude hoped for and the answers he got weren't very surprising. Cybele had just reinforced her goody-two-shoes act while Gabriel showed his blunt honesty yet again. Well, at least one of the two was completely honest. Blude had to raise an eyebrow briefly at the mention of his powers becoming a blessing, but Gabriel immediately backpedaled to remove any dull surprise the unhealthy boy may have had.

The topic shifted away from Blude and into other things, which was completely fine with him. He'd rather disappear into the shadows than talk with everyone. The boy sat patiently on the bench, looking down at the ground with an absent look on his face. Memories surfaced of his time in school. The first he could remember... well, he was small. Back when he was incredibly naïve and sickeningly nice to everyone. The kids would take advantage of him, lending stuff and never returning it. But Blude didn't mind, since they were happy.

He remembers... a girl with green hair, yes. Cybele. He didn't really know her, back then... but she had gone through a phase of bullying herself. She sat on a small stairway leading to the classroom, alone and with a bit of a sullen look on her face. It was a day that Blude tried desperately to forget, but couldn't. The local 'cool' kid and his group of 'friends' went over to Cybele and started making fun of her hair, saying stuff like her being dropped in the soup for lunch or being unable to stay away from the baby goo. Blude went up to them, asking them kindly to stop. They started pushing him around, making the boy scared. Blude fell on a rock, tearing open his palm.

Blood seeped out of his palm, trickling down on each of his fingertips. Blude wasn't fully aware of his power at that time, he hadn't noticed the blood starting to become scarily solid and forming needles on his fingertips. In self-defense, he pushed the bully away from him and Cybele. The needles dug into his chest like small daggers, causing grievous wounds of their own. When Blude's hand got yanked out, he looked at the bleeding kid on the floor in shock. His tiny mind couldn't process what had happened. He assumed the other kid died, even if they didn't.

Blude opened the palm of his right hand, looking at the stick marks carefully woven into it. A scar that will haunt him. A scar that reminds him of his 'curse'.

More memories floated to the surface. Him getting shunned and exiled. The mockery, the fear. As he grew up, he grew up friendless. He started being sick more often, making students gag in his presence to mock him. The pushing around during lunch, shivering in the dark corners of the school...

His heart began to sting, a cold sweat forming on Blude's forehead. He instinctively dug his nails into his hair, breathing heavily. Nobody around him noticed the absolute panic Blude went into. He closed his eyes, desperately trying to make the ghosts of the past go away. A sour taste made itself known on the back of Blude's tongue. He completely lost track of everything around him.

When he recovered, at least an hour had to have passed. He snapped back to reality as the vans rolled up to the pavilion. Everything happened incredibly fast. Blude's blood started to feel even colder, his hands got bound and his vision covered... He could feel himself getting thrown into the van, making Blude cough and groan in pain.

The van was empty, save for him. Or at least, as far as Blude was aware. Not that it mattered, because a sick feeling of satisfaction welled up from within him. He was right. They did get captured by people of evil intent. The academy didn't just let them go. "He... hehe... Hehehehe! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Blude's laugh was uncontrollable. A mad laugh, heard only from the crazy scientists in movies. A laugh that lasted for minutes on end without fail. He continued to laugh until his throat failed him. Blude didn't care anymore, it was all over anyway. What's he going to do? Fight them? As if. He was bound, and he couldn't feel his body anymore. His power was drained... but he didn't feel weak. He felt relieved at the temporary respite. He smiled, a sick smile nobody would witness and patiently waited on the ride to end.

Finian felt relieved hearing Louella. He never really knew Louella as well as he knew others but whenever he does it's usually about topics like how she is doing and such. Normal banter. "Thank you..." He says kindly. Juniper wasn't alone. That was a good thing.

The 15 year old sat up hearing Cybele.  Ah yes, the girl who seems to enjoy his music. It's glad to know she was with him as well. "Yeah it's me! Glad to hear other people. You okay there Cyey?" Yes. A nickname already. Finian seemed to be back to normal, knowing others were there with him.

While he was waiting for Cybele's answer Finian then overheard Zachary wanting a joke. Though he couldn't recognize his voice. "A joke huh? What is the difference between a dead person and a musician?" Finian stayed silent for a while, before continuing. "One composes and one DEcomposes!" He laughed slightly. Finian felt better when he was with others, especially in a situation like this. But like usual he had to put on his 'mask' to adapt towards them. Deep down he feared the worse ahead of them. But he's suppose to play his part as the goof who tries to be cool. He didn't want to make others feel down if he expresses his true emotions upon this situation.

@Kairikudo @Yoshiro @Maiza Avaro

Dear god, they were multiplying. And here Zack thought he would be able to hide from the world after the ceremony. Though he had to hand it to Finian. That was a pretty good joke. But it still didn't help keep his mind focused away from the others. Begrudgingly, Zack spoke to everyone. "It would seem that I need....would like.....oh for fucks sake, someone else add to the brainstorming!" He hated having to ask for help.

Cybele Haniyasu

Cybele was relieved to hear that it was Finian. A soft sign-off relief past her lips as a weak smile painted her lips when he asked if she was alright.

"I..I'm fine Finian. Are you OK?" She said with the tone as before. She turned her head towards the sound of Zachary who was also in the vehicle. He was asking for a joke,something Cybele was not good at doing, thank god the Juniper was. The joke he told was pretty good. A soft chuckle passed her lips.

She tried to think of something to add onto Zachary's comment. She didn't really know him that well, they didn't really talk so she didn't know what to say.

@eero-prince @Yoshiro @Maiza Avaro

Victoria, listening into the conversation, only realized just how much of a headache she had garnered. Sighing in slight aggravation, she waited. The talking only made things worse, if she was being honest. She, unlike some people, liked silence. It allowed her to actually clear her thoughts. Right now, though, was something of an inconvenience. She didn't know what to think, and it didn't help that she was being confronted with pointless chatter. Victoria grimaced in the pitch blackness; A sour taste welled up in her throat as she realized she may have to deal with this for a lot longer than she was comfortable with. Wishing she could be as deaf as she was blind right now, she sat patiently in the dark with an agonized expression.

This was going to be... Less than pleasant.

One could not tell the passage of time in those vans. Maybe it was minutes, maybe hours. There seemed to be a haze surrounding it that made it hazy to think, hazy to breathe. It was dark, warm and cramped and, quite frankly, a miserable ride.

It seemed endless until it came to a jarring stop. Some of the students were thrown against the walls. Then, with a click click click the van was pulled forward, almost as if it was on a conveyor belt. Then, the vans stopped.

There were voices coming from outside. Many voices, almost as if a crowd had gathered. The doors swung open, almost as if by magic. The students were left blinking as sunlight flooded into the vans. Two guards in white uniforms entered and cut the bonds of each student. They escorted the students out of the van. They were parked in the middle of a large lawn, close enough to see another Pavilion in the distance. The students were herded into a group in front of the vans as another man stood in front of them.

He was short and plump, with a handlebar mustache and light brown hair. Smiling seemed like his most natural trait and an aura of goodwill emanated from him. He waited for a moment for the confusion to die down and then he spoke. “Welcome, my friends. I do apologize for such a rude introduction, I really do hate that they do that to our newest recruits. It scared the living daylights out of me when I went through Traveling. My name is Petrarch. I bet you are all confused and probably somewhat scared. That is understandable. They weren’t lying when they said Traveling Day would change your life forever.

At approximately midnight, you were taken from the Pavilion at Starson Academy and subjected to kidnapping. This was to test your resilience under duress, as well as your teamwork. Now, you will come with me to the next Pavilion where you will demonstrate your powers to the League. Why, you ask? Well, that will all be explained in time.

Now, I bet some of you don’t want to follow me after you were subjected to kidnapping on our behalf. That’s understandable. I get that you don’t trust me. But there is not much choice for you all, sadly. You could try to overtake me, which I might add, has happened in the past and was hilarious or you could wander off alone and unprotected. I am not going to force you to do either. All I ask is that you follow me so that all of this can be explained to you. Now, if you are ready to face your destinies, let’s get moving.”

Gabriel fell into silence at the presence of other people talking. At least they seemed to be calming down, even for a little bit. Gab had a certain itch in his stomach that he really wanted to scratch, but couldn't. Great, how long would it take for them to get wherever they were going? He wanted to get rid of that annoying feeling, but with his hands bound and his feet couldn't actually reach that point... He let out an audible sigh and then let his head fall onto the wall of the van again, listening to the ones conversing.

Being trapped in there made time go slower. It felt like hours before the vans stopped, and they were, by far, the most depressing moments of his life. That wasn't saying much of anything though since he's led a pretty good and happy life in his time at Starson, despite the questions of who his parents were swirling in his mind. The doors slid open and Gab had to look away for a while. Damn that hurts. After blinking a few times, he looked back to see two soldiers enter and cut their bounds and he was forced to stand up. Well, he wasn't exactly complaining. He began cracking his fingers as he exited the van, looking back momentarily to the others, before continuing to follow the soldiers.

In front of them was another man, who introduced himself as Petrarch. He mentioned his own feelings on Travelling Day when he went through it. When he mentioned that the kidnapping was a test of resilience and teamwork. Teamwork? Well, as far as Gab knew, they didn't do anything but succumb to the kidnappers. Someone just had to block their magic. And besides, since they were so surprised, they didn't know what to do. Well, that didn't matter anymore. The past was in the past. Time to look forward to the future.

The next test was apparently showing off their powers? Oh great. Just great. He didn't have a flashy power. Ah well. But wait, he had more questions in mind. What exactly were they doing? Who are the League? Was Starson an Academy for training soldiers? Petrarch was right, Gab's instincts were not to follow the man who was part of the kidnapping earlier. But he wanted answers too. Reluctantly, he followed the man with the brown hair. Once he gets the proper answers, then he'll find out whether this would be good for them or not.

"A demonstration..?" Louella found herself muttering nervously, fiddling with her blue ribbon. "My powers probably wouldn't be very impressive then..."

To the French-Ukrainian, this couldn't be more correct. Reinforcement was just enhancing her body's physical capabilities by pouring her Magical Energy into them, there was not much else about her power to brag about. While she would be able to crush iron between her seemingly delicate grasp, while her skin would become something akin to titanium, that was pretty much all she could do. Grant herself strength, speed, durability, and stamina. It made her feel rather inferior to the rest of the seniors. Everyone else's powers were pretty much overpowered compared to hers.

Zack stared dead pan at Petrarch at the mere mention of displaying their powers. The admins at the academy had specifically requested he train separately from the others. And he understood why, his power was the stuff of nightmares. Now this....man....suggest he break the one rule he had always followed. "I'm sorry, 'sir', but I refuse your demands. I'm not really in the mood for this shit. Maybe give me some food, a three hour nap, and I'll CONSIDER your request."

Cybele Haniyasu

Cybele sat in the van for what felt like hours, though it was a bit hard to tell the passage of time in a situation like this. Once the  van had come to a halt Cybele sat up straight. The next thing she new was that the vans doors had been opened and the restraints that once bounded her wrist together were cut letting her arms fall at her side. The blind fold removed and her eyes closed tight from the bright light of day. She had been escorted out of the van with the other seniors, now being herded to the front of the vans to meet the short plump man with the handle bar mustache. Cybele stared at the man for a moment in confusion as he spoke about going through a similar situation on his traveling day as well...wait a minute...,did he say new recruits? Was there whole time at Starson Academy just preparing them to become soldiers? The very thought of this brought an unusual frown upon the females lips. She felt extremely uneasy when he said that they would have to demonstrate their abilities at the next Pavilion.

"D..Demonstrate? I..In front of everyone?" The hole time at Starson Cybele had never shown anyone her abilities. All the people knew is that she had some weird connection with plants and animals. You could say she had a bit of...stage fright from that idea. Reluctantly she followed the man and the rest of the students towards the next pavilion, sticking to the back of the herd. unknowingly to them a green snake had slithered over to Cybele, following her like a lost puppy. She noticed the snake and knelt down looking as if she was just tying her shoe, the snake slithered up her arm and coiled itself there under the sleeves. for some reason it helped her fears a bit, but not much.

He was sitting in the van. It felt like years while Finian was there. No other jokes were said and all Juniper could do now was hum to keep the van from falling silent. Then finally the van came to halt and the doors were opened. Sunlight came flooding into his eyes. Ew.

Finian followed the escorts like a majority or even all of the other seniors. He yawned and stretched a bit once in front of the man named Petrarch. Fin was tired. He needed sleep. He barely listened to what the plump guy said but did hear about the demonstration of their powers and to follow him. Juniper jumped up in down like a spoiled child not getting the toy they wanted. "What? No rest?" He liked showing his powers, hell, that is the reason Fin got to senior year at the age of 15 but that didn't mean he had interesting powers. He just knew how to control it. Welp, time to follow his "destiny" he guessed. But sleep was good too and much appreciated.
