Fandom Star Wars: Old Republic Era (open)

Hello everyone!
I'm looking to start a Star War RP based in the Old Republic Era. Most plot, knowledge, and pretty much everything will be based in the legends, before Disney made the legends non canon.
For my geeky people, this will be set a few years before Darth Bane was born, so the new sith wars were still happening, but both sides haven't gotten too desperate looking for troops yet. I'm hoping to avoid bringing in known characters, and just have this timeline and know that there is a war going on, but thats pretty much it for that.

Ok, now that that's done, here's the plot:
A ship and her crew are searching the far outer rim for a mysterious energy source they believe could end the war. They will discover new worlds, forgotten worlds, find strange creatures and people, and have adventure.

Ship Name: The Vigilance.
Class: Corsair
Crew: Mix-Matched crew of sith, jedi, and non-force users.
(Please note, neither sith or jedi should be very powerful because if they were, they would have been snatched up for the war. The reason there is both is because I love both the sith and the jedi and since it's my RP i can tweak reality if I want. I also figured some people would want to play sith characters because it's Star Wars).

I have played plenty of Kotor, but I'm afraid i've very little knowledge in Swtor. How far does it take place from the events of Darth Revan? If its a long while, I could make a sort of droid character.
