The People of Inner Manhattan
Despite the fact that new gods are created every time a new concept is invented, the species as a whole is still called the Old Gods. This is because they are no longer gods. Beyond immortality and a few basic magic tricks, these gods are essentially mortals. Each god embodies a concept such as commerce or construction.

Soothsayers have the innate magical power to manipulate Fate. For them Fate is literally what they make of it.
Running throughout the world Fate is the magical string that ties everything together. It makes sure things don’t break down and the universe doesn’t crumble to bits. Soothsayers can use this string to do powerful magics, called Fortunes. However, as a countermeasure by Fate to make sure it is not broken, it comes at the cost of their energy, requiring them to take long rests after doing a certain number of Forutnes. If a Soothsayer does not rest it is possible they may die.

Goblins are considered vermin by the denizens of Inner Manhattan. Goblins will follow anyone who gives them shiny things and are often employed as foot soldiers for various Mafias.
Goblins are not a playable race.
The craftier, smarter cousins of the Goblins, Kobolds are often employed as mafia spies. They are also amazing tinkerers with a sadistic streak.
Kobolds are not a playable race.
Unbeknownst to humans without the Sight, Rats are very intelligent. They communicate through telepathy and are very personable. A Rat’s life is a social life. They enjoy reading and playing sports.
Rats are a playable race.
Others
Humans can’t normally see Inner Manhattan. However, some humans are born with a special ability called The Sight, allowing them to see Inner Manhattan. Humans with The Sight are called possessors. The Sight usually lies dormant until teenagedom in which it awakens. Once it awakens the sight will come in gradually, so as not to overwhelm its possessor. The sight can fully awaken prematurely if a being from Inner Manhattan opens the possessor’s eyes.

Golems are constructs created by the citizens of Inner Manhattan to act as bodyguards or servants. They are fully sentient and not all of them serve masters. Golems are not made of precious metals or stone like you might expect. Such things are not flexible enough and a golem made of those materials would be unable to move. In order to create a golem one must first obtain a heartstone. The looks of a golem vary by creator as all beings have different skills and preferences.
There are three different types of golems.
Paper Golems
Paper Golems are made of paper, obviously. They are usually created out of whatever paper happens to be around at the time. Once a Paper Golem has been given sentience it will absorb any writing on the paper it is made out of, obtaining all of the knowledge on it. As a result Paper Golems can be rather unpredictable, having world views influenced by the information they have taken in.
Wax Golems
As long as the flame on a Wax Golem’s head burns it will be awake. As such, to take it out you must blow out the flame. When the flame is blown out Wax Golems fall into the world of dreams. It is unknown what the world of dreams is like and the wax golems sure ain’t telling.
Clay Golems
Clay is the best and worst substance for making a golem. Clay Golems tend to be stronger than other golem types making them ideal bodyguards. However, they are unstable and they may harden in too much sunlight. A hardened Clay Golem will subsequently crumble to dust, leaving only the heartstone. Some weapons have been created specifically to combat Clay Golems, using magic to simulate sunlight.
