Spite - "I'm taking you with me!"

Spite (●●●●)

A blade of black iron, eternal testament to the raging grief of Bejewelled Monster, a Witch who swore bloody retribution upon her lovers Devic killers. Legend has it she tore her own soul free to hammer it on an anvil of fury at Mirrored Knife's passing, smelted it with blood and bone and secret metals until she emerged. She should have died, for not even the Chosen were meant to live with their spirits rent and sundered, but she did not die then. Only when she was satisfied at the mountain of Devic corpses she built in honour of her dead mate, did Bejewelled Monster finally lie down and pass away.

The sword has passed down the ages, from one hand to another. It is not a weapon of justice, though it has been used in service of justice. It is not a thing of mindless slaughter, although it has been put to that end as well. It is a weapon of purpose, of burning vengeance that will not be denied.

"There Is Bloody Work To Be Done" declare the glaring runes upon the blade. Its wielder invariably agrees.

Spite has the profile of a Soulsteel Daiklave, albeit with an attunement cost of ten motes. As a peculiarity of its construction, any character may enjoy the benefit of its magical material bonus, so long as they possess at least one negative Intimacy towards an individual.

By meditating upon the blade for no more than half an hour, the wielder may imprint upon the blade the identity of a single person upon whom they fervently desire murderous vengeance. Thereafter, if the wielder would suffer final death in a Scene where the chosen character (or a person the wielder believes to be that character) is present, the power of the blade roars to life.

The wielder does not die. Any wound penalties plaguing them cease to apply. Any unwanted Crippling, Sickness, Poison, Shaping and Holy effects they suffer from prior to the killing blow cease. Any unwanted mental influence affecting them prior to the killing blow is immediately terminated. Finally, the wielder benefits from a form of immortality.

The wielder will not die or be rendered incapable of fighting before the Scene ends. Any wound or magic which would render them incapable of fighting are ignored. Though engulfed in fire which should burn them to cinders, or eldritch magics which should blast them apart, still they will emerge, horribly injured but still holding the sword, still fighting.

At the end of the Scene, regardless of any attempt to heal or preserve them, the wielder finally succumbs to their wounds and dies.
