Demons, Spirits, Imps, their names are almost as numerous as the shapes they can assume, yet none of them truly conveys their true being.
They are creatures native to the fifth dimension, a pathway between the reality humans call their own and the many aetherworlds that lay scattered between time and space, in flux and unconceivable like smoke.

Each entity is slave and master to its own realm, ruling over the aspect of its being the universe assigned to it and still shackled by the limitations of that facet of reality.
Thus there exist countless spheres where spirits dwell in their Otherworld, becoming one with each conscious entity as they form a swirl of energies native to their realm.

If called upon, these entities can be summoned to the human world, where they are given form and shackled by the cruel laws of the mortal plane.
They are masters over reality and can invoke minor sorceries or destructive curses, depending on the age of said entity and what realm they were ripped from.

There are five categories of spirits, ranked from the lowest, or rather the easiest to describe, to higher entities no mortal could ever truly understand.

The lowest ilk are elemental fiends, spirits who are one with the primal elements of fire, earth, wind and water. They are mostly benevolent creatures that exist in harmony with the mortal plane and have often visited the world willingly as their own plane of existence does not differ to much from the mortal one.

The Ish’tai are the essence of a primordial, dark universe. Unlike the Elemental fiends known as Ash’tai, their bodies consist of the primal elements of shadows, dust, smoke and ice. Their field of expertise is the one of death, decay, as well as human vices like greed, sorrow, anger and revenge. Being summoned to the world hurts their essence and they would do anything to be sent back, urging their masters to let them serve to fulfil their task and be sent back. Some of them even try wooing their summoners or deceive them in a way to be returned to their plane of primordial energy.

The Hex’tai are closest to men like no spirit could ever be. Their element is the nature of human beings, indulging in their virtues, their vices, dreams, sorrows and the very nature of their being. They enjoy being summoned and they serve willingly, just to leave their mark on the human world. Some of them choose a human form to fit in with their masters, but they are unable to truly hide their demonic heritage.

The Haemo’Zai are demons of blood. Their relam is a physical manifestation of earthly desires, of violence, hedonism and physicality. They are masters of the flesh and blood and weave life as they please. They revel in displays of their might and can be coaxed into unleashing their powers unto the mortal realm.

The Zai’tai are beings that fall under none of these categories. They embody the unknowns, the secrets of the universe, the depths and heights of humanity. Their realm cannot be accessed through normal means and thus they cannot be summoned without knowing their names.

Lastly, the entities that could be described as demons are nothing less than human souls that failed to remain in the afterlife.
A stray soul might invade the realm of spirits and corrupt their world with its influence, voluntarily or not, as they are bringing a part of the mortal plane into one that does not conform to the laws of said dimension.
The soul is going to adapt the planar affinity of the realm it visited, imbuing its human essence with the strength of the spirits native to the plane.
The resulting creature is a demon, and they follow human cravings and desires as they are nothing more than an echo of a mortal existence.
