Mount Cleartunt Academy, tucked away in the mountains in Ryke, is a magic school that prizes itself on its primary focus of Lightning magic studies alongside the other small disciplines taught at the academy. The path up the mountain path goes into the mountain and stops on a cliff where several cable cars would take people the rest of the way, passing through the clouds. Upon getting past the clouds, the academy comes into full view, with a large white tree that sprouts out from the courtyard.

Upon reaching the landing platform, the doors would open, and several faculty members were waiting to escort the new arrivals up to the Great Hall. The path would lead up the stairs to the central courtyard, and several mages were shooting lightning magic at some targets, and thunder was heard rumbling over the school. There was a breeze bringing cool air from the west. Magic could be felt in the air as the many students moved about. At the far end of the courtyard was the Great Hall, where the smell of food was coming from.

Upon entering the hall, there were several rows of tables with benches on either side; food was floating in the air as it was placed on the table. Individuals all dressed in various clothing sat at the tables, indicating these were the examinees. At the head of the hall was another long table where several professors sat and ate food. Now was the time for one to stuff their faces of food and prepare for the exams that were about to begin. After about half an hour, a rather old-looking wizard who looked like they were about to turn to dust if someone blew on them stepped up to the podium. "Welcome all potential students, I'm headmaster Wilgrum Dourhand. Today, you will undergo a few tests in which your aptitude for magic will be tested; upon completion of the tests, and if you meet the requirements, you will be offered admission." Wilgrum spoke, but his voice didn't sound like one that would have belonged to a man of his age. However, it was yet to be seen if that was due to magic or something else. "Now, please finish your breakfast and one of our recent graduates who we have brought on as a trial professor will explain the exam and be one of the proctors," He explained as he stepped off to the side and walked back to his seat.

Eiru stepped out from the side of the room and walked to the podium.
"Thank you, Headmaster I'm Eiru and I will be one of the proctors of the exam today. You will have three tests today, first being primary magical output; simply strike the target with your most potent spell. Moving onto the second test will be a test of control, and magic is by its very nature chaotic and potentially dangerous. You don't want to overload a spell and level a city when you are aiming at a specific building for whatever reason. Then, the final test, there will be an exam, and upon completion of these tests you may or may not receive an admittance acceptance. Now as the Headmaster said enjoy the food and we will begin the exam shortly once we know all the attendees have arrived," Eiru concluded.

A sense of Deja Vu washed over Helena as Mount Cleartunt Academy came into view.

She cared nothing for lightning magic in this life. She cared little for engineering in the last. And, as she advanced, she wondered just how many people had come to this school with the intent of actually mastering the power of electricity. If nothing else, the young mage felt rather confident that the electives offered at this college might've actually proved useful away from the campus grounds.

At least in a fight, anyways.

Helena snacked lightly as she awaited for the exam to begin. She could've eaten more. In all honesty she should've eaten much more. Her nervous stomach wouldn't have done well with a full meal, though. The reality of her own ignorance quickly sat in as she took in her surroundings. Up until then, Helena had thought herself rather skilled. She'd developed the ability to summon creatures from distant dimensions with little more than practice and study. And, in her hometown, it was quite a feat.

But she wasn't in her hometown, anymore.

She was surrounded by others who'd likely had the same experience she'd had, and with no idea how she stacked up against them. She put her half-eaten plate of food down and sighed; physically shaking her head to try and fan away the creeping doubt in her mind. It was almost absurd how worried she was about embarrassing herself in front of a ground of strangers who would... probably never see her again if she did manage to make a fool of herself out here.

"Gotta start somewhere."

A bit of reassurance to ease her mind.

"Eh well. I'll definitely be learning... something from this, either way."

She leaned forward on her bench, rested her elbows on the tabletop, and surveyed the crowd in search of someone who looked about as nervous as she felt.

The hall was buzzing with numerous people coming for the test. As an avid loner, Eeriel didn't like to mingle with the crowd, but she also couldn't afford just brooding in the corner like some edgelord. She had her own goal to accomplish, and she would needs some assistance for it. Walking underneath the tables, the cat looked around for someone who was alone and approachable. After walking for a few minutes, she finally found someone eating alone on one of the bench.

"Pssst, you look nervous. First time here?"
Approaching Helena, Eeriel jumped onto the bench next to her and sat on a comfortable loafing position.

"Ah, would you mind checking the foods on the table? Get me some meat pie if there's any. I can't see the food without jumping on the table." She requested.

Once all the food was gone Eiru stood up and cleared her throat once again, "Alright with all the food done, every please follow me and you will be broken down into small groups for the exams momentarily as you pass through the portal you see on that door." She explained as she pointed at a portal door on the right side of the hall door, the other examinees quickly made their way through the portal. Eeriel and Helena would find themselves with 15 other students in their group and Eiru stood by the target dummy that the test was going to revolve around.

"Now that the group has been assembled, I will explain the test once again; this is a test of magical aptitude; simply use your strongest ability on the dummy, whether that be healing or slinging a spell at the dummy. It should be able to withstand any magic thrown at it. So don't be afraid to give it to you all now. It's time for a demonstration!" Eiru stated as she clapped her hands together, walked away from the dummy, and spun around to face the target.

"Biri-biri" Eiru muttered as a small rock was picked up from the stone floor as lighting appeared around the rock which was then launched toward the dummy. "Simply as that now go ahead and begin this portion of the test those anyone can withdraw at any point during the exam if they choose to do so. However you will be barred for one year before reapplying for the exam," She explained.

"Yeah, first time."

She replied to the talking cat. In any other setting, the experience might've bewildered her a bit more. But, given where she was, someone's familiar had probably taken some pity on her. Or, at the very least, wanted some snacks that their master wasn't interested in handing out. Regardless of whether or not the cat was actually a cat, it was cute. And it brought a bit of a smile to her face.

"Sure, why not?"

Helena stepped away for a few seconds and returned with a meat pie and a few meatballs for Eeriel to enjoy before the festivities started. She would've given her more, but Helena wasn't interested in pissing someone off by overfeeding their pet. She'd watch the cat eat for a brief while before Eiru announced the day's events. Things began with a simple test demonstrated with a bolt of lightning.

Strike the dummy with your most potent magic.

Simple enough.

She would find herself before the dummy not long after. The thought of summoning something for this task ran through the young mage's mind, but she deemed it far too unreliable for a task like this. Helena held up [The Book of Creation] in her left hand and opened it as she began to channel magic through it. The pages began to flutter in the wind as a glowing orb of pure mana manifested before the palm of her right hand just inches above the book's aged paper. With a flick of her wrist, she'd cast
[Magic Pulse] upon the dummy and strike it with blast of pure force. The spell was extraordinarily simple, but it would give the proctor an idea of her current magical aptitude.

...

Well, with basic offensive magic, anyway.

Actions (1/3):
1). Cast
[Magic Pulse] upon the dummy.

Magic Pulse- Magic E- Helena unleashes a wave of raw magic upon a target to deal damage and defend from damage- Range 5ft, Duration 1 turn.- Grade E- 1 post cooldown.

Eeriel immediately began to devour the foods the moment Helena put it in front of her. Ahh, freshly cooked foods, she had only been eating her stash of dead rats and pieces of jerky on her way here. The taste of oil and baked pie reminded her of the sensation of being human, something that she had been forgetting these past few months. She licked her paws clean as the students were called to gather for their first test.

Having her stomach filled, she decided to silently follow Helena from behind and watched her magic pulse strikes the dummy. The book that the girl was holding piqued her interest, she knew that book, there's one copy of it in her master's library. Though she never bother to read the content since as far as she remembers, it was a novel, not some magic education book.

"That's an interesting choice for a catalyst. Are you interested in learning interdimensional magic?" She asked Helena.

The cat didn't seems to be interested in the dummy, though she did lazily stared at one of the dummy while chanting something in beastial language. Without any warning the dummy rattled as it was hit by an unseen force.

"Oh my such lovely magic~!" A bunch of claps could be hear in the din after the eruptions of power, a happy looking person seemed to be overjoyed with the displays of their spells! However simple they were, Lam was happy as a clam to see these spells slung! Truely, this was the place they needed to be!

Oh! Oh!

Was it Lam's turn?

Oh gosh are they waiting for them to do it to? Oh boy, oh boy!

"My turn! I hope I don't scare anyone!" They chimes with all the cheer of somebody skipping down the street, there not a single worry or drop of sweat on their fine features.

Though, the whole... Tendrils of darkness forming up towards an outstretched hand, flowing and coelesing at a point at the tip of their finger. A pause, a breath, before a snap.

"Burn, break, shatter."

  • Dark Spell: Fulminating motes; Magic C, Darkness Affinity D, Range F, Targets F, small dark projectiles strike distant targets! up to 5 targets, 30 ft range, C grade
FIve motes of inky burning blackness flew forwards and the dummy and erupt into small implosions upon hitting the unhappy looking targetting dummy.

"Yay~! It works!" The mage spoke in a sing song was, looking quite pleased.

Once all the other students had gone through the first test, Eiru made some notes on the papers she had with her. Once she was down with that she clapped her hands together to get the attention of the group. "With the first test complete, we shall move onto the next phase of the test, you demonstrated your magical output now, we will see if you are able control it. Follow me."

She then led the group down a tunnel, which came to a coloseium-like venue. As they stepped out into the center, the ground was made of sand, and the stands were empty. "Welcome to the dueling arena where the students who are close to graduation compete in their final exam. But you won't be fighting one another," She paused for a moment and clapped her hand twice as feathers floated down in front of each of the students. "You will be channeling your magic into these feathers, the goal is to keep them up in the air for as long as you can," Eiru explained as she demonstrated for a moment as that feather levitated above the palm of her hand.

"Once you are ready begin and once you are done the feathers will give a reading to the wonderful other faculty who will then give you a grade based on the control of mana and the time you keep it floating," She concluded and stepped back as some fo the students begun the next test.

Between the licking of paws and following after someone who'd given it food, Helena wondered just how... "catty" this cat was.

Did it cough up the occasional hairball? Did it enjoy the taste of mice? Was knocking things off of shelves a favored pastime? Could it share delightful stories about its experience with catnip in proper English. Did it... enjoy being petted? The young mage decided to keep these thoughts to herself and simply hope that some of these inquiries would answer themselves with time. Mostly because she was entirely sure if these were rude questions to ask a talking cat.

Partly because, even if they weren't, she wasn't too keen on embarrassing herself.

Instead, she'd focus on more relevant things.

"Yeah, actually. Summoning, specifically. I know that Mount Clearunt is known mostly for electricity magic, but I'm sure I'll learn something of use enrolling here. What about you? What are you trying to take away from this place?"

Eiru chimed in shortly after with the second test. A test of mana output, control, and stamina. Thank god. Offense may not have been her specialty, but her practice with summoning had granted her quite a bit of control and stamina to put to use. She took hold of the feather and channeled a [Steady Stream] of mana into the feather to keep it aloft for as long as she could.

Actions (1/3):
1) Used
[Steady Stream] to channel mana into the feather and keep it aloft for a prolonged period of time.

Steady Stream- Magic E, Magic Duration F- A technique that Helena will likely only use once in her life, she channels a steady stream of magic into a feather for up to an hour to keep it aloft and try to pass the Mount Clearunt entrance exam.

Oh? A new challenge! How fun, it was just how they imagined the whole thing would be. Simple acts to help show their controll and ability to utilize magics. Though really they wasn't certain that'd be it, maybe there would be a written exam?

Coming to their turn they took a moment to focus and started to make the feather playfully dance {Dance of the Quill - Magic E, Spell Duration F}.

"A dueling arena, how interesting. I do hope they have a medical team for any accidents...

Expeacially with how volitile lightning can be. Very dangerous and frightening..."they regarded the others who wasere also taking this test with them with a soft smile, seeingly letting the quill dance and float of it's own accord.

"My name is Lamdon, a pleasure to meet you... Two? Is this kitty cat perhaps your familiar? They seem quite magical of their own, much like my little scoundrels."

"Ha, summoning magic. My former master also specialize in that. He summoned many creatures and then catalogued their knowledges. As for me though, I'm looking for the magic to split the space itself..." The cat replied to Helena's question. "I heard the academy's high altitude make it a good spot for learning cosmic magic."

As the dummy test ended, the cat followed the crowd as they're ushered into a gladiatoral area. For a moment the cat became wary and was starting to look for multiple way out before the proctor reassure them they wouldn't be fighting each other. Eeriel let out a scoff before she poured her magic into the silly feather, keeping it afloat while occasionally swiping at it just to see it dance in the air.

"I've retired as familiar, now I'm just your regular wandering cat. Don't mind me." She answered the other participant who just approached them.

The feathers around the arena floated up into the air, and some were flying everywhere uncontrollably, showing that while some had control of their mana, a few also didn't. Some of them burned up from too much mana being poured into them. When Eiru looked around the room and saw everyone had attempted the test, she nodded her head and jotted down a few notes on the clip board and paper she was holding.

"Alright everyone we shall move on to the final test, if you will follow me please I will explain," She paused for a moment and started to walk down another corridor. "So far you have been tested on your mana output, your control. But all of that means nothing if you don't have the knowledge to understand what magic truly is," She explained as there was a bright light at the end of the corridor. As the group stepped through the threshold the blinding light disappeared.

The group was now in a classroom setting, rows of desks were lined up with each row being on a level higher than the last creating a stadium seating like design that was in the shape of a half circle. "You will find that there are papers, quils and ink at the desks. Please take a seat of your choice and you will find two simple questions on the paper, in your words what is Mana and why do you seek the knowledge that the school has to offer. Once you answer those questions bring the paper up and your final scores will be tallied." Eiru explained as she moved around toward the desk at the front of the room.

Eiru presented everyone with a set of questions so simple that Helena almost thought them to be trick questions.

But, then again, this was an entrance exam. Participants were here to seek greatness, not to demonstrate it. Perhaps many who'd come here hadn't studied much before making the trip over. So, she sat down, got herself a quill with some paper and gave the proctor what she wanted.

Question 1: Mana is the raw ethereal energy in all things. The fuel allows for magicians to cast spells, and their most fundamental aspect. Beyond that, mana, in high concentrations, are responsible for many of the unusual phenomenon we observe in nature.

A simple, by-the-book answer. The second question, however... she had to think on that one for a minute or two before she gave an answer. Not because she lacked one, but because she was unsure just how... honestly she should've answered it. When it came down to it, Helena wasn't entirely sure how common... unusual arrivals into the world, like her own, truly were.

For all she knew, she might've been an affront to nature living in this body.

Question 2:
I seek truth. Truths in the universe that I could never find without spellcraft. Truths that will bring me peace of mind. Even now, I am uncertain if my studies will answer the questions that linger in the back of my mind. But, so long as there's a possibility, then I will try. Put simply, I seek this school's knowledge for the peace that knowledge might bring.

The proctors could decide how good of an answer that was. It was the most honest answer that she had to give.

Eiru watched over the tentative students as some of them wrote the answer to the questions pretty quick. Several others sat there pondering it for some time trying to decide if this was a trick exam or not. After some time she sat on the edge of the desk looking rather board as she curled her finger and brought them up closer to her face as she examined her nails for some time.

As time passed, several of the students got up and turned in their sheets before returning to their seats. The stack of papers slowly got larger and larger on the desk, and after some time, all the papers had been collected. Eiru snapped her fingers as the ink and quills disappeared and she stood up and clapped her hands together. "Good it looks like everyone has turned in their exams, now in a few moments the door will open. If you have passed an acceptance will be flying and will land in front of you. If you accept the offer then you are officially a student here at the academy." She explained as there was a knock at the door then it flew open.

Letters flew into the room, swarming around several of the students. There were fifteen people in the class, and only five letters landed on student desks. The rest of them flew out of the room and the door slammed shut. Helena would find that she was one of the five students selected and now it was up to her if she was going to decide accept or not.

A light smile swept across Helena's face as the letter landed on the desk in front of her. It meant that she was one step closer to achieving her goal, and one step closer to getting some answers. She opened the letter and quickly read it over. An oddly familiar letter of acceptance. The tests that preceded it weren't particularly hard, in retrospect, but I guess they were challenges that only a mage could complete.

After a moment of reflection, she went ahead and accepted the offer.
