- *FOR GHOSTS !
wisps of figures lurk on the outskirts of chicago, waiting at a bus stop only the dead can see.
the night bus arrives here every hour, only operable after midnight and sanctioned by no city, driven by no one. there is no fee — all those who ride have already paid the price. it arrives silently and its doors creak open, releasing a strange purple light and thick fog from its bowels. for these few moments, the bus stop is blanketed briefly in the stench of rotting flesh. the dead step off, the dead climb on. the doors creak shut and the night bus passes on quietly into the dark. its passengers ride on it to the ends of the earth for no reason at all. they have nowhere to go, nowhere to be. they have already reached their final destination.
a few feet from the bus stop's bench is a dilapidated bulletin board. it is unused. ghosts do not speak to each other and there is never news. yet, tonight, a slip of aged paper clings to the surface with the help of a hello kitty push pin. despite a hard wind blowing through, the paper remains still. the very existence of this paper is an unspeakable taboo. it should not be here. yet, like a rallying call for some kind of revolution, it is. tenacious and lingering and oh so tempting. ghosts stop and peek and then, embarrassed, turn their heads.
the paper reads:
❝ are you recently deceased? a veteran deader? struggling to connect with a living partner but communication through spooky mirror messages and oujia boards just isn't cutting it? feeling lonely in this eternal death? need an incorporeal hand to hold or maybe just a shoulder to cry on as you try to come to terms with what it means to be undead? why not try speed dating!
hi there! my name is cecily and i am the founder of LOVE CONNECTION: speed dating for ghosts, a love club exclusively for us lonely-hearted spectrals! being dead is hard and yet us ghosts always seem to go it alone. we keep to ourselves for hundreds of years, haunting spooky old houses alone and seeking for crumbs of friendship in the fickle living. and for what? to keep up our scary reputation? death isn't something you should have to go through alone. it's about time we stopped seeing companionship as a taboo here in the phantom community. ghosts deserve love, too. if you're seeking a friend to talk to or a ghostly pair of lips to kiss, stop on by cecily's love club, located in the old church. you know where it is. we meet every night at 2 am.
please come. just try it out. you don't need to be lonely anymore. ❞
- hi there! my name is mistral, but you can call me misty! this is my first roleplay here on rpn but i have been roleplaying on and off on different websites/platforms over the last six years. this roleplay is heavily inspired by the itch.io game of the same name: speed dating for ghosts. i highly recommend you check out the game! it is currently featured in the bundle pack "bundle for racial justice and equality" -- you can go read more to find out how the bundle is helping to aid in BLM.
i was interested in a fluffy, light-hearted, slice of life sort of roleplay but! with ghosts! let's kick back and enjoy the story of how seven ghosts change the history of ghostly existence by daring to come together and connect to one another.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾ rule one ☽༓・*˚⁺‧͙
for comfort's sake, i am requiring everyone to be 18+ to join. this is a fluffy rp but it deals with romance and potentially tough topics concerning death, depression, and other topics. i want everyone to feel comfortable, knowing they are writing romance & discussing such issues with other people of age.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾ rule two ☽༓・*˚⁺‧͙
i expect responses to be literate! that means good grammar, spelling, literacy, and multi-paragraph replies. i am not super strict about this, i just want to make sure the plot is continuing to move forward and we're not spitting out one-liners! i write lowercase for the ~aesthetic~ and i do not count it as being illiterate/bad grammar. feel free to do the same~!
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾ rule three ☽༓・*˚⁺‧͙
please be active and post at least once a week. if i do not see a response in over a week and no contact OOC, i'll have to assume you dropped the roleplay. i won't be able to accept people back after they've dropped. as long as you're keeping me updated on what's up, though, this shouldn't be a problem!
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾ rule four ☽༓・*˚⁺‧͙
characters won't be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. i'll be reviewing applications and deciding which best fit my vision for the roleplay. i'll be accepting six people in all!
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾ rule five ☽༓・*˚⁺‧͙
after everyone has been accepted, i'll be starting a discord server for us all to chit chat and plot OOC. i will be requiring everyone to join so we can keep in contact easily and, y'know, be friends! this is going to be especially important for this roleplay, however, because the speed dating part of the story is going to take place in "rounds" and it's necessary we all can talk in discord to keep on track.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾ rule six ☽༓・*˚⁺‧͙
no anime/cartoon face claims. only real life people. this is to protect artists and to prevent people from "borrowing" art without giving proper credit or compensation. being an artist is hard!
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾ rule seven ☽༓・*˚⁺‧͙
fyi, the "connections" page isn't that important. even though two ghosts are paired together in the connections doesn't mean you need to follow it. i just set it up like that to make it look nice. actual relationships and who matches with who will be figured out during the speed dating rounds and also through plotting! you can ignore the connections completely or, if you like the idea of those connections, go with it! you do you, boo.
- ♡ — CONNECTION ONE.
ghost one | newly dead: coming to terms with the afterlife and the unspoken rules of what it means to be a ghost. misses life and being able to talk to people, sees nothing wrong with speed dating.
ghost two | old timer: been dead a long time, potentially centuries. knows everything there is to know about being dead. feels pretty uncertain about this whole speed dating business, but has been lonely for far too long to not give it a shot.
♡ — CONNECTION TWO.
ghost three | lost: left life by their own hand, perhaps accidentally, perhaps on purpose. but only just realized after seeing the paper at the bus stop that they're actually dead and it's not all some big prank. liked to party in life, very popular, had some dependency issues. death is daunting.
ghost four | murdered: was killed but is unsure by who. haunted by the image of their death and the shadowy figure of their murderer. the ptsd from it has kept them from finding love. is seeking help in finding out who killed them... and maybe more.
♡ — CONNECTION THREE.
ghost five | poltergeist: mischief-maker and ex-criminal. a punk, a rioter, and a loudmouth. here to wreck havoc and have fun. enjoys being dead but hates the rules. especially the rules about not making friends.
ghost six | scaredy-cat: follows the rules strictly, highly anxious and depressed; is scared of other ghosts and the other spooky creatures that go bump in the night. looking for someone to talk them through it all. terrified of breaking the taboo, but just can't get through it alone anymore.
♡ — CECILY.
played by mistral: your lolita-clad love therapist. loves hello kitty, loves friends, loves love. been hated by the phantom community since she died due to her loud, extroverted ways. banished from most ghost hot spots for being too talkative and friendly. was a bartender in real life and is really good at making conversation. tired of her fellow spectrals being grumpy, sad, and alone for no reason. ready to see some change.
