Death Weapon Meister Academy

Death Weapon Meister Academy (死神武器職人専門学校, Shinigami Buki Shokunin Senmon Gakkō) or DWMA (死武専, Shibusen) for short, is a school located almost in the center[1] of Death City, Nevada, in the United States.[2] Run by Death, the Shinigami himself, the Academy is a training facility for Meisters and Demon Weapons.[2]Death created the school as an organization that protects peace in order to prevent the rebirth of a Kishin(鬼神), a god-like individual born from the over-hunting of innocent souls whose madness wavelength could destroy the entire world.

Death

"Now, now. There's nothing wrong with being addicted to peace. In fact, lets get more and more addicted. After all, that would mean the world is all the more peaceful. Which is why we can't afford to ruin this peace. We'll just have to entrust to the rest of them..."

— Death to Kilik[1]

Present | Past

Death (デス, Desu),[17] also referred to as Shinigami (死神), was the God of Death and the Great Old One whose affiliation with Madness presides over "Order". Eight hundred years ago, he led The Eight Warlords and created his first son, Asura, as a fragment of his soul containing his fears.[18][19] and made him his apprentice[20] However, he was forced to seal Asura when he became a Kishin and bound him under what he would later found as the DWMA, also known as Death Weapon Meister Academy, and became its headmaster and leader in its military department[19] until his death when his second son and heir, Death the Kid, connected all three of the Lines of Sanzu.[21] He is commonly referred to as Shinigami with the "-sama" suffix as a term of respect in the manga or Lord Death in the English dub.

Background

Death's duty as a God of Death is to preserve the world order by maintaining balance. Eight hundred years prior to the start of Soul Eater, Death led the group, the Eight Warlords after the creation of the Demon Weapon race. However, he was betrayed by his first apprentice and son, Asura, when he became the first Kishin. Unable to kill him due to his immortality, Death sealed him away and started an organization, DWMA, to prevent the rise of another Kishin.[22]

Personality

Called a "god without arrogance" by Franken Stein[23], Death himself is a kind, wise, and benevolent figure, often showing care for those within the DWMA[24] as well as optimistic. This is shown when Kilik Rung became frustrated with the situation during the anniversary eve of the DWMA with Death reassuring that there was nothing wrong with being "used" to peace and how that makes the world a peaceful place.[25] Despite his background and powerful position within the school, he tends to speak in a silly voice as well as changed his mask and appearance to not scare children.[26] He's also capable of sympathy and compassion even for individuals whom are Witches and is demonstrated when he unconditionally allowed members of the DWMA to do what they can to helpAngela Leon, a notion in which surprised some members of the DWMA so much they wondered If he was even taking them seriously.[27] In addition, Death has an easygoing nature to the point that even after facing Stein, Marie, and Spirit in their plan to let Stein go despite being wanted, he let all of them off with only an apology.[28]

Despite his benevolent and easygoing nature, even Death himself has a far more serious side. He's next to intolerant on Spirit's drunken and silly behavior at times[29] as well as to inappropriate behavior.[30] He's also not above punishing others, such as Maka when she borrowed the Book of Eibon's Manuscript using Spirit's I.D Card and was also openly critical of Spirit's irresponsibility in letting her do so and was nearly adamant about punishing Maka[31], though this attitude seemingly stemmed from the fact he was set on rescuing his son. Azusa Yumi also described him as being pushy, a trait in which has passed to his son as well.[32] Despite having shown support in his son when he claimed the Witches will assist, it was shown that even he was doubtful of their appearance. This was shown to even cause him to be angry when he assumed they were attacked, calling them "bitches" and suspected they would attack and was surprised to see it was Excaliburwho had arrived.[33] When he disapproves of various actions from individuals, he will even issueShinigami Chops. While normally DWMA students or staff are issued these chops, he's shown to even take the opportunity to strike and chop those whom have caused issues such as Medusa Gorgon. In the anime, He's shown to be confident in his own overwhelming power, claiming that Asura's defeat was decided when he became trapped in the Death Room prior to their battle.[5]

However, even with his status Death possesses a few flaws on his own. Death has admitted that both humans and gods have weaknesses[34] as well as having showcased guilt for being the one to create Asura to the point he felt he couldn't speak ill of Medusa Gorgon's own treatment of her childas an experiment and expressed further frustration in having to leave the problems he created to others such as his son and his companions.[35] In the anime, he is also known to be reckless by both Death the Kid[36] and Asura.[5]

Death himself possesses some eccentricities: He gives out short greeting speech[37], at times puts his students in dangerous but fabricated situations for the sake of bettering them[38], and enjoys telling expositions.[39] In the anime, he can get homophones mixed up at times such as "pause" and "paws" or "Mandolin" and the last name "Manheling" and cannot "handle" coffee-enthusiasts such as Joe Buttataki.[40]

AppearancePresent

Death appears as a being covered in a tattered piece of pitch black cloth with many jagged edges, decorated with a cartoony skull mask, which seems to serve the sole purpose of imitating an otherwise absent face—a means of rendering Death more humanoid and thus making it more comfortable for humans (particularly children) to communicate. Occasionally, he also appears with large, foam gloved hands from his side, in which seemingly materialize.[41] Throughout the series, as Death the Kid connects the Lines of Sanzu, various cracks on his mask are made.

Death also sports the largest seen soul within the series, spanning to be as large as the entirety ofDeath City. [42] His soul is pale yellow/golden colored with three spikes emerging from the top right, in which resembles that of his own mask.[43]

Past

In the past, Death sported a much more intimidating look. He wore a grim-looking skull mask. He also had black claws instead of hands with his signature “Death” written on the right forearm, and a deep, menacing voice. He has been shown to have skeleton hands during the scene of flaying of Asura. He also additionally possessed more, human-like large gloves.[44]

TriviaThough Death's face has yet to be seen, Death has mentioned that he has face behind his mask,[45] and Kid, in the anime, has also has commented that Death rarely takes off his mask.Death's prominent symbol of his mask was based upon the symbol involved with the character"Shotaro" and his "Kyoukotsu" in Atsushi's earlier series B. IchiDuring the A Fight to the Death at the Anniversary Celebration Arc, Kid and Stein confirm that Death anchored not only his soul but his body to the spot of land that would become Death City in order to prevent Asura from escaping, hence making Shinigami and Death City one and the same. This oneness between Death and his city may clarify the name and imagery of death and skulls found in Death City: the city itself may be an extension of Death's own body.[46]

Death the Kid

Death the Kid

"I am a shinigami. A real god. And I deem your manner of ruling to be wrong, Noah! 'Everything in the world' you say? You literally mean everything? How is that different from the 'Trans-Symmetrical Unity' I landed upon in the thrones of Madness? How can there be any aesthetic in 'everything'? There can be no beauty in an aesthetic without value!! It's about balance — a beautiful balance like perfect symmetry! You are not suitable for the task of ruler!! I'll show you a way of ruling that is bursting with beauty! If you survive, that is."

— Death the Kid to Noah in "Salvage (Part 10)".

Death the Kid (デス・ザ・キッド, Desu za Kiddo), commonly referred to as simply Kid, is the second[6] son of Death himself and the Meister of theDemon Twin Guns, Liz Thompson and Patty Thompson.[7] Created from apiece of Death himself,[5] Death the Kid is known to be one of the top 3 EAT-level fighters in the DWMA.[8] After his father's death at the connection of the Lines of Sanzu and Asura's defeat on the Moon, he inherits his late father's position as leader and headmaster of the DWMAas well as his name, Shinigami (死神) with the "-sama" suffix as a term of respect.[4] He is one of the main protagonists in Soul Eater.

Personality

Described as possessing an "uptight personality" by Franken Stein,[9] Death the Kid is known to be a normally calm and mature individual compared to those like Black☆Star and Soul Eater.[10]Throughout the series, he's shown to be prideful of his status as a Shinigami, wanting to become the next full-fledged Shinigami and inheriting his father's responsibilities[7] However, he also wants to do so in his own unique way, even telling his own father he wants to makes his own weapons to his specifications despite Death informing him that as a Shinigami, he doesn't really need to collect souls.[7] According to Black☆Star's testament of his view on Death the Kid, despite being a Shinigami he is also capable of being humane and not displaying the typical arrogance of someone who has the status of a god.[11] This is true, so much so that he even see's himself partly as a human and expressed this fact to Asura.[12]

Kid also has a great sense of morality and order, having expressed to the Flying Dutchman that despite being a god, he doesn't deny evil and that there's no one person without some evil within them. However, he believes that everything is about balance instead and strives to keep the balance between "good" and "evil" in equilibrium.[13] When expressing this, he also informed the Flying Dutchman that cares little for other's view on the subject and strives for a "absolutely" perfect world, granting no one freedom to kill.[13] Kid's view on balance is partly due to his father's teachings to him on order as a child.[14] Despite favoring order, he also aware of not following it blindly. He's quick to question his own father's actions when he had the DWMA storm into Baghdad when searching forAsura and explained that it's wrong to impose their will on others, though was understanding and sympathetic of his father when he realized that due to the threat of Asura, his father doesn't have the luxury of "playing it safe" and may be reckless in his decisions.[15] When the majority of Spartoi was ordered to execute Crona, Kid was the only one who supported the action, citing that Crona's actions were unforgivable and even alluded that the reason why they were ordered to do so by his father was for them to decide how to face Crona but said that both them and "order" must move forward to take care of the threat Crona possessed.[16]

Kid is also extremely humble, shown when he pleaded to the Witch Order, the Witch Judge, and theWitch Queen to assist the DWMA in stopping The Clowns and pushed for both Humans, Witches, the DWMA, and the Witch Order to have better relations.[17] He also put good faith and trust into the Witch Order, despite the protests of Azusa Yumi.[18] He also explained to Azusa that merely holding ideals means nothing and one must realize that people must make an effort to make things better and that If being an adult means "stapling out ideals" because of experience, he doesn't mind being called "Kid".[18] Because of his views, Azusa comments that he is also pushy, much like his father.[18]

Like his father, he also has a fierce and much darker side in his personality. While normally calm and collective, Kid is still susceptible to being angered, such as when Mosquito insulted his father[19] and when Noah's Group announced their plan to assassinate Maka Albarn, he showed a considerable amount of anger.[20] When he later faced Noah (Greed) on his plans of "replacing the gods", Kid even gave him a death threat, in which was guaranteed when he used the Parent's Seven Rays attack on the Sorcerer, killing him.[21]

Despite his great capabilities, Kid also possesses some flaws, most notable him being a perfectionist. Described as being "too much of a perfectionist",[22] he initially was very obsessed and concerned with orderliness and paying excessively close attention to detail so much so he complained about Liz and Patty's breast size being irregular, chose them as weapons due to their twin appearance in their weapon forms, and even refused to attack the Wrath of the Pharaoh due to symmetry. As well as this, he dislikes the fact that his Lines of Sanzu were incomplete and upon Liz pointing it out, he called himself an ugly pig and worthless piece of garbage until he was quickly cheered up by his fellow weapon partners.[7] He is even physically repulsed by asymmetrical arrangements to the point he almost vomited at the sight.[23] Due to his wanting to be precise in detail, it even took him over a month to help Liz pluck her eyebrows;[24] in addition, he fails an entire test due to being unable to correctly write his name symmetrically and accidentally ripping the paper while erasing, before being reduced to tears, causing him to cough up blood and faint.[24] He also letCrona and Ragnarok get away to admire the sky and it's symmetry.[25] Despite being enrolled in counseling, it remained as a fatal and dangerous flaw.[10] Even the mere sight of something unsymmetrical causes him to become more aggressive, not only killing the Wrath of the Pharaoh in a fit of rage, but also destroying the Pyramid Anubis due to his recklessness.[7] In actuality, this part of his personality is a manifestation of the Madness of Order due to being a part of Death himself, a fact he himself is unaware of.[26]

Despite this flaw, he is noticeable not unaffected by his father's appearance despite it being unsymmetrical possibly due to his immense respect for him. This is a bit more evident when Kid was shown to even willingly sport the same robes of what his father wears on missions.[13][27] As time passes throughout the series (and the anime), he becomes less affected of his perfectionist nature and matures enough to accept it, though will still occasionally bicker over small details.[28] This remains true even when he became a true Shinigami.[4] One of the earliest examples of this improvement is displayed when he claims not to care about the DWMA's broken spike as Black☆Star begins to descend into madness during their second duel.[29]

Kid has his own, odd quirks. His favorite number is eight due to its symmetry[10] and, according to Liz, was willing to try and place himself in exactly eight seconds during a 100 meter dash test and end up not meeting the time.[30] He can also be somewhat overconfident in his ability, feeling the need to not study Soul Studies just because he was a Shinigami.[13] Due to his perfectionist personality, he is the type of person to recall and correct people on the small of detail, pointing out even when infected by the Madness of Power to Black☆Star he never punched him and instead used his heel during their fight when Black☆Star erroneously stated he punched him into submission, something the assassin noted to be unique to Kid.[11]

Influence by Madness

While under the influence of the Madness of Power, Kid's personality changes dramatically due to his yearning for the perfect world. However, instead of balance, he strives to achieve "nothingness".[11] He is willing to even kill an individual by using the power of "nothingness" to send a person to "nothingness", a flawed and somewhat absurd logic as pointed out by Black☆Star.[11] In addition, unlike his typical personality, he also becomes arrogant, seeing himself as above others due to being a Shinigami.[11]

AppearancePre-Timeskip

Kid's model sheet for Soul Eater NOT!

Death the Kid appeared as a thin, teenaged young man who is a bit shorter than Liz and Patty and reaches only up a little past the latter's shoulder. At this point, he is 158 centimeters tall (about 5 feet, 2 inches).[31]

Kid's eyes have two shades of yellow ringing around his pupil. The outside ring is a bright yellow while the inner ring is a dark yellow, similar to the color of gold. He typically sports a standard black suit with white rectangles. The rectangles are placed in a manner that is completely symmetrical. There are at least six small rectangles along the seam where the sleeves attach to the jacket, and four small rectangles run along the front of his jacket. His undershirt is a formal white dress shirt, and a metallic skull rests under his collar, and could be used as a tie. His color scheme is meant to copy his father's. He also sports black hair with three white stripes along the left side of his hairline.[32]

When observed by an individual with Soul Perception in account of his personality, his soul appears in a orange-red color with white stripes representing the Lines of Sanzu. When expanding, however, the color of his soul changes to that of blue hue with white lines, along with dark, Death Clawssurrounding the soul.[33] Later in the manga, his soul expands, gaining a large skull mask on the surface of his soul along with black skull masks surrounding the soul. They resemble Death's current mask.[34]

On some missions, Kid dons a cloak and mask that resemble his father's current wear out of pure enjoyment of liking it.[27] Kid also wore a similar cloak during his mission to infiltrate Baba Yaga Castle, although this cloak resembled not his father's Shinigami robe but his usual dress jacket, except as a longcoat.[35] Kid also will don different clothing during other activities, such as as a white dress suit for the Death Weapon Meister Academy Eve Anniversary party, looser (and even asymmetrical) clothing for playing basketball, warmer attire for the battle for Brew on Lost Island, and formal-casual clothing for parties at Gallows Mansion or Maka and Soul's apartment.

Post-Timeskip

Kid's post-time skip attire.

Kid's second attire post-timeskip.

After the time-skip and being rescued by Spartoi and joining, he appears slightly more aged and taller, enough to almost reach to his father's shoulder.[17] His attire changed to that of alater attire that consists of white dress shirt, black tie, a white sports jacket similar to that of Liz and Patty, a white suit jacket with the Spartoi symbol on its left sleeve, navy pants, and white shoes.[36]

He later wears a simple black shirt with a black jacket along with black shoes when acting independently. His color scheme have further seem to mimic his father, the only variation in color now from his face.[37] Upon his departure from the Moon to negotiate with the witches, Kid returns to his previous look before the timeskip.[28]

During his time under the influence of the Madness of Power inside the Book of Eibon, Kid sports a black suit with white stripes and a white cravat along with black pants and black shoes. He also appears to have 5 black lines on the area of the mouth and lips, appears as if his mouth is sewed shut.[14]

According to both Liz and Patty, Kid shares a resemblance to Asura.[6]

True Form

Kid as a full Shinigami.

Upon connecting the Lines of Sanzu during his battle against Asura on the Moon, Kid's appearance changes for the remainder of the series. Kid is shown wearing a black cape similar to his father's, though he keeps his skull brooch. His pupils change to skull shapes, though they remain golden. His Sanzu lines are fully connected and are "floating" around his head. These changes are due to him becoming a full Shinigami.[12] As soon as Kid returned from the fight on the Moon, the Lines of Sanzu settled on his hair once more, making him fully symmetrical.[4]

His soul takes on a different appearance, the size being about the size of The Moon in the Soul Eaterworld. In addition, his soul looks exactly like his own late father's soul, with 3 spikes protuding that makes the entire soul resemble like that of one of his skull masks.[6]

TriviaHis name is a reference to "Billy the Kid", a gunfighter of the old west. His theme songs are "So crazy" and "Bang!Bang!Bang!Bang! Have a Nice Dream." His character song with Liz and Patty is "Sore ga Bokura no MichishirubeIn both official popularity polls, Kid was voted the most popular character. He has a blood type-D.[38]According to a data sheet, Death the Kid is 4 "9" during the NOT! Timeline.[39]

As Death's son, it is no surprise that his apparent power is considerable.

Death the Kid is by far one of the most powerful characters within the Soul Eater series, many of this due to his natural talent and being a God of Death. He is known to be one of the top 3 students withinDeath Weapon Meister Academy.[1] and later sports (at the end of the manga) one of the largest souls seen in the show and manga

Powers & AbilitiesPowers

The Lines of Sanzu.

Lines of Sanzu (ザ ライン オブ サンズ, Za Rain obu Sanzu): is a special trait exclusive to a God of Death represented by the either three white lines on the head around the individual,[3] white breaks within the hair,[4] or white halos surrounding the head.[2] They're the key to many of Kid's power. As he grows stronger and older, the more lines connect.[3]

Shinigami Powers (死神パワーズ, Shinigami Pawāzu): Due to the Lines of Sanzu, Death the Kid has a set of plethora of powers in which he can call upon. Many of the these powers are variations or the same abilities displayed by his father, Death.[5]

Kid in his Sanzu Emergency state.

Emergency connection with Lines of Sanzu and Death (Anime-Exclusive): Due to possessing the Lines of Sanzu and being Death's son, Kid maintains a connection to Death. When in an life threatening situation and was nearly killed by Asura, Kid was able to tap into the power of the Lines of Sanzu (and as a result, his own father's own). When in this "emergency state", he gains unbelievable power in which his technique could decimate even Asura, a powerful Kishin with sufficient power to defeat Death, in his Giant Form.[6]

Execution Mode after connecting the second (middle) Line of Sanzu.

Execution Mode (死刑執行モード, Shikei Shikkō Mōdo):With the use of his Demon Twin Guns, Death the Kid can enter a special "mode" and gain access to extremely powerful moves. This expands his Soul and Soul Wavelength and enables him to take various forms to execute his unique moveset. Part of this ability stems from his powers as a Shinigami.[7] In addition, this "mode"also grants him some sort of scoping vision, enabling him to "lock on" onto a target as If he was watching his targets on display.[8]

Madness of Order (注文の狂気, Chūmon no kyōki): After gaining his complete form, he unlocked the ability of using the Madness of Order, in which is able to turn eclipse human emotion under its influence and suppress human emotion, leaving only a mechanical cycle of life and death.[9] However, like his father, he opts out use of this ability.(Post True God of Death Ascension)

Madness Counteraction: With the Madness of Order, Asura's comments stated that this madness has the ability to counteract even his own Madness.[10](Post True God of Death Ascension)

Kid's Madness Takehold boosting his speed.

Madness Takehold (発狂, Hakkyou): Being granted this after meeting with the Great Old One of Power, Kid has the ability to call upon his inner Madness and temporarily boost his own power for a short time. While it can be done on his own, in which is normally done in small incriments, the downside is using it for too long subjects him to going mad with Madness. He normally utilizes this when Maka Albarn and Soul Eater are around. When in this state, the "emotion required" is what he calls a "cool and deliberate intent to kill".[11]

Black Needle Wavelength (Anime-Exclusive): In the anime, Death the Kid has been described as possessing a Black Needle Wavelength in which allows the Demon Twin Guns into using Death Cannon, a technique utilized while in Execution Mode.[12]

Death's Wavelength (Formerly):Death the Kid had a special wavelength within his Lines of Sanzu in which seems to originate form his father. When he discarded it in his ultimate attack, he described himself as no longer needing to ride on his "Father's coattails", and the wavelength itself created atechnique powerful enough to kill a Dragon.[13]

Abilities

Kid decimates the Colossus Clown.

Godly Physiology:Due to being a God of Death, Death the Kid possess a physiology far more advance then most beings in the series, especially that of humans. He's stated himself that he's immune to toxins[14] and heals much faster then any normal human being can. Despite receiving moderate damage during his battle against Mosquito in his form from 400 years ago, he was able to heal quickly and move on.[15] Combined with his healing factor, Death the Kid is a resilient individual. He's been able to take punishment from the likes of Mosquito and Kaguya. Though not as strong as the likes of Black☆Star or Auntie, Kid still possesses above-average strength. Combined with his martial arts, he's capable of sending his opponents into the air and able to create craters with the use of his legs. He was also capable of lifting Fisher King and overpowered a strong Clown creature.[16] Additionally, Kid is by far one of the fastest characters seen in the series, quite possibly faster than even Black☆Star. His speed is so remarkable that even Crona wasn't able to see his movements. Professor Stein regards Kid as the most mobile of the group.

Healing Factor:Despite having been beaten savagely and drilled by the Pharaoh, Death the Kid has an astounding healing factor in which heals him from normally fatal injuries in seconds.[17]

Kid duelling Black Star.

Martial Way Mastery: Death the Kid was already a master of martial arts by his inclusion into the DWMA[18], often combining his unarmed combat with the usage of his demon guns as tonfa objects. Early on in the series, he was a superior fighter to both Soul Eater and Black☆Star despite the latter specializing in martial arts in particular to the point Maka Albarn stated he was toying with both males.[19] Without the usage of his own weapons, he was able to gain the upper-hand on one occassion with Black☆Star during which the latter suffered from a blocked wavelength[20] and stalemated the assassin in their second altercation while under the influence of the Madness of Power, though it's unknown how much power the Great Old One of Power granted him..[21]

Kid uses his guns to attack Mosquito.

Death God Taijutsu(死神武道,Shishin Taijutsu): Kid's signature martial art in which he mastered.[18] This martial art focuses on utlizing different "stances" in which the user's attacks or defense is augmented depending on the stance.[22] This martial arts is also able to be used with Demon Weapons, as Kid has used some of these stances with Liz and Patty in their weapon forms like Tonfas.

Utility Meister (ユーティリティ職人, Yūtiriti Shokunin): Death the Kid can match and stabilize his ownSoul Wavelength with more then one Demon Weapon at a time.[23]

Kid using his Gun-Type Meister ability: Death Cannon.

Gun-Type Meister: Death the Kid is extremely skilled Gun-Type weapon, with the Demon Twin Guns as his standard weapons. When in usage of these weapons, the weapons shoot out compress bullets made out of his wavelength[24] Ordinary shots from these guns and his Wavelength are strong enough to cause pain even for Free, aWerewolf and Immortal[25] and destroy the Pyramid Anubis as well as utterly decimate the Wrath of the Pharaoh's entire body.[26] With his Death Eagle .42 transformation, his own shots can even deal damage to Mosquito in his 400 Years Ago form[27] as well as easily decimate the body of a Clown.[28] With his Death Cannon without assistance from Soul's Piano, Kid is powerful enough to defeat Black☆Star and Soul Eater with two shots[29] as well as break through Kaguya's Heavenly Raiment Wall despite it's constant healing.[30]In the anime, his Sanzu Death Cannon's shoots were powerful enough to descimate Asura in his giant form.[6]

Marksmanship: In terms of his ability in Marksmanship, Death the Kid's marksmanship skills are extremely accurate and sharp. He's being skilled enough to shoot down thousands ofMosquito's bats with a two powerful technique[27] as well as shoot at hilts of 4 blades at a rapid pace[31] and juggle Crona in the air with his own shots for several seconds.[32] In addition, he also possesses eye in which acts as a scope for locking onto targets. It's unknown If this trait exists outside Execution Mode, however.[33]

Kid skating against Medusa's Vector Arrows.

Skateboarder: Death the Kid's ability with a skateboard such asBeelzebub is immense, being skilled enough to ride it like that of a normal skateboard as well as even use it offensive in combat.[34] He was able to grind on Medusa Gorgon's Vector Arrow with extreme ease as he avoid the attack to get around her.[35]

Soul Perception (魂感知, Tamashī kanchi): Kid possess the ability to skillfully perceive and sense the souls of other beings. While perceptive, it is not on Maka Albarn's level.[36]

Skilled Artist: Kid possess some skill in drawing, in which may have manifested thanks to his perfectionist tendencies.[37]

Immense Power: As a God of Death, Death the Kid is an extremely powerful young man, his skill impressing Franken Stein whom cements Kid's underlying power to be much greater then otherMeisters at the DWMA[38] as well as being one of the DWMA's top 3 students.[39] His power is known within the general students in the academy to the point many students feel he's talented and far out of their league.[40]

ParaphernaliaWeaknesses

Due to suffering from perfectionist tendencies early on in the series, Death the Kid avoided destroying anything remotely symmetrical even If the said symmetrical subject was, in fact, the opponent.[41] He later overcame this weakness.

Kid KOed after noticing he's symmetrical.

In addition, he could easily be knocked out should he notice any part of his body asymmetrical to the point his body would cause him visible injury just from the realization of it that not only makes him spit up blood but also put him in bed for a week.[42] However, he would later overcome this weakness about some point after his fight with Black☆Star and Soul Eater, as witnessed when he fought against the Flying Dutchman. Without the appearance of BOTH Liz and Patty, Death the Kid also refuses to use just one of them due to his perfectionist tendencies and prefers to use both of them.[43]

Death the Kid is mortally injured by Asura.

Although powerful in his own right alone and competent in martial arts as well as godly powers, Death the Kid himself is not as powerful as when wielding the Demon Twin Guns. At most alone, Death the Kid was great enough to stalemate Black☆Star in martial arts.[44]Having also been an Immature God of Death for much duration of the series (and the anime), Death the Kid doesn't share the Immortality both his father and older brother possesses and is still able to be killed.[45] In the anime, due to this, Kid enters an emergency state whenever he faces a life threatening situation, in which takes power from Death via the Lines of Sanzu.[46]

Asura pins all 3 DWMA students.

Despite being a god himself, his own power and capabilities has it's own limits, such as when he admits he cannot take on theBloodsucker, Mosquito, alone and required Maka Albarn andBlack☆Star with their respective weapons as well as Free's assistance, though Kid gained enough power to fight against him when he connected his fist Lines of Sanzu.[47] In addition, Death the Kid was not able to take on Asura alone during the battle on the Moon along with Black☆Star and Maka Albarn, in which all three Meisters had admitted that individually they cannot take on Asura himself (even when Kid ascended to being a True God of Death) and required a combination of teamwork as well as interference from other DWMA members, unknown party members, and Magic users to take down the Kishin[48]

According to Auntie, although Kid has the strength to overpower opponents like Kaguya, his "sensitive" and "delicate" way of fighting holds back his ability to do so.[49]

TechniquesShinigami Powers TechniquesDeath Arm Blocking: A technique that allows Kid to use his father's skull shields to block attacks.Death Claw: A technique that allows Kid to produce skull-like arms, in which was shown to be used to attach his own arm back together.Shinigami Jets: Kid can create jets by seemingly spawning them, a technique he shares with his father.Beelzebub: Kid is able to spawn a magical skateboard for the use flight with his shinigami magic and use it to fight.Demon Twin Guns TechniquesDeath Eagle .42: By performing Soul Resonance with sisters, Kid changes they form into one that visually match the real life Israeli made Desert Eagle. This form significantly upgrades the caliber from .38 to .42 making shots far more powerful than his normal.Sanzu River Shot: This is s a simple, quick stream of bullet form both Weapons.Sanzu Fall Shot: This is a rapid-fire shooting technique with appearance of the combined shots reminiscent of a cascading waterfall. The stream that is fired down is capable of striking multiple targets at once.Execution Mode TechniquesDeath Cannon: This is Kid's Soul Resonance attack. When activated, Kid's lower arms are covered with metal and resemble cannon barrels. Three black spikes come out of each of the upper arms. He then charges his attack and fires two giant blasts of energy from the cannons that impact with the opponent, leaving behind a series of skull-shaped smoke.Parent's Seven Rays: This is Kid's and the sisters' most powerful Soul Resonance technique. Consisting of three stages that end with shot of powerful seven laser-like rays that shoot upwards into the air, before dipping down and shooting towards the enemy. The beams are powerful enough to cut through even the most powerful of foes. They can also converge into one giant skull-shaped ray that results in a huge destructive explosion.Sanzu Death Cannon: This is an anime-only technique. After all three Sanzu Lines connected when Kid was near death, his Death Cannon became two oversized cannon barrels, and shooting a soul wavelength strong enough to destroy the larger-than-life Asura, reverting him back to his original form.Death God Taijutsu StancesDeath God Taijutsu: "Crime" Stance: This fighting style is like Kid's normal style, but without using Liz and Patty, and therefore focuses on chops, kicks, and hammer blows. Kid used this style against Black☆Star in their second fight.Death God Taijutsu: "Mad Crime" Stance: This fighting style itself displays a brutal efficiency not observed thus far, when delivering vicious blows of various natures directly to the adversary's body. Kid uses this when powered by the Madness of Power from The Great Old One of Power against Black☆Star.Death God Taijutsu: "Guilty" Stance: A fighting style which focuses on landing strong blows and kicks. In this stance, Kid's body is turned to the side. His right arm is pointed up towards the sky while his other arm is pointed to the ground. He also moves at a faster pace. Kid uses the Demon Twin Guns in this stance.Death God Taijutsu: "Punishment" Stance: This fighting style is more defensive than the Stance of "Crime". He uses Patty and Liz with this style. He adopts this style when fighting Mosquito in the manga.

Demon Weapon

"Long ago, The Witches' control spread farther, and their curses caused much more damage than they do today; they are exceedingly crafty...We needed a new power. A new means to combat the Witches. So Eibon developed a countermeasure modeled upon Excalibur: The "Demon Weapons". Though Eibon denies it...A weapon is power! Everyone knows that. Great strength is born when such a weapon is touched by a soul...so the weapons needed to be changed into something that can commune with a soul...which was not the case with Excalibur."

Demon Weapons (魔武器, Mabuki), also known as Magic Weapons in Funimation and often called simplyWeapons for short, are a race of humans who can take on the form of traditional weapons.[1]

HistoryOrigin

A witch being sacrificed to create a demon weapon.

The first demon weapons were created 800 years ago prior to the start of the series. Both Eibon and Deathsought a way to even the odds in the strife between witches and humans. Inspired by Excalibur, Eibon sought to create the demon weapons. Both he and Death agreed to do so, and learned that demon weapons required the use of a witch's soul. However, both found the experiment inhumane and concealed the instructions for making the weapons.[2] Having surreptitiously viewing the instructions by means of her tracking spiders,[3] Arachne attempted to complete a weapon according to the Book of Eibon. To create a Demon Weapon she murdered a witch as a sacrifice and joined a human soul with an object . Using a witch, which possess transformative capabilities, Arachne joined an inanimate object (a weapon) and a human soul together to successfully create a Demon Weapon, which had the ability to transform from human to weapon form.[4][5]

This act branded her the most brazen heretic witch in the Witch Order, and caused her to be hunted by her own kind and Death himself.[4][5] She destroyed most of Lost Island after rigging it to explode,[6] evadeding her pursuers. However, she was cornered in Loew Village by Death and was thought to not have survived the encounter.[4][5]

Demon Swords and Kishins

After the over-hunting of soul, a demon sword and eventually the kishin were born.

Despite their bizarre or off-putting appearance, Demon Weapons were soon accepted into the world. The Eight Warlords were among the groups that adopted Demon Weapons into their ranks (e.g. the likes of Vajra.) However, their existence also made the Kishinpossible. During a great battle, a meister was so terrified of death he began secretly feeding his weapon pure human souls in hopes of attaining more power for himself. He inadvertently created a Demon Sword and, eventually, a Kishin.[7]

AftermathFile:The DWMA - (1).png

After the founding of the Death Weapon Meister Academy (DWMA) , it became a world power and accepted Demon Weapons. However, over the years, Demon Weapons suffered discrimination by ordinary humans. Their inexperience and inadequacy in using their power are commonly known. The DWMA did its best to take in such weapons and train them to control their power.[8] The use of the Demon Weapons were successful in evening out the odds between the DWMA and that of the Witch Order. However, their usage furthered the witches hatred, as a witch soul is used to create a Death Weapon, effectively using the witches' own power against them.

The Demon Weapons within Soul Eater, with the exception ofRagnarok for unknown reasons, all have normal humanappearances when in their human form.[9] As seen with the Soul Eater, their appearance may take on the attributes of their weapon form, as he is often seen with spiky or sharp teeth.[9]

In their weapon forms their forms may vary considerably. While Demon Weapons can take any form of traditional weapons (e.g. sword, axe, shuriken, combat knife, etc), several demon weapons exist that may be considered unconventional (e.g. vajra, lantern, guillotine, and even a moving ballista).

Soul

Giriko's Soul

In addition to having a human form, it also appears that Demon Weapons have human-like souls themselves, taking a blue hue in the anime. In the anime, however, the color of their soul may differ--Giriko's soul is a purple hue in color.[10] Depending on their weapon form, the appearance of the soul may reflect some of the weapons physical attributes in the soul itself.[11]

Weapon Gene

The Weapon Gene is what gives a Demon Weapon the ability to transform.[citation needed] In the anime, this is explained in more detail. Those who have the ability to transform into Demon Weapons may unlock the ability by:

being a descendant of a family line that has weapon genetic information.[12]manifesting the abilities during puberty.[12]Transformation

A Demon Weapon transforming.

When becoming a weapon, clothing and everything on their person is carried on into the transformation. After becoming a weapon, the person is seen in their human form as some sort of reflection on the weapon while a completely black space is viewed inside the weapon. Inside their weapon, Demon Weapons seem to be able to have easy access to their souls, as Soul Eater can enter the Black Room in his mind from his Weapon form. They are still able to verbally communicate in their Weapon forms.

Often, in this dark space they are seen without their clothing on, save for a few details. In other cases they can be seen with all of their clothing. If two Weapons are resonating together and/or close together (i.e. they are both used by one Meister), they can share this dark space. The Weapons also glow in the color of their souls when inside Weapon form. For example, Soul Eater has a blue soul, and as such, he is glows light blue in the dark space. Tsubaki has a yellow soul, therefore she glows yellow. The Thompson sisters have pink souls, so they glow pink. This glow is also present when the Weapons are transforming. The transformation usually involves the Demon Weapon being engulfed in a bright light and changing into the shape of their weapon before the light disappears. Elemental Demon Weapons display their elements when transforming e.g. Harvar turns into lightning when transforming into his Weapon form. The same also goes for Weapons with various "themes". Naigus is often associated with bandages, so her body dissolves into bandage-like strips when she is transforming.

Transforming into Weapon forms can be quite hard for rookie Demon Weapons. Some can only transform parts of their body, or cannot transform at all. The key to transforming, according to Sid, is to picture the weapon resting in one's soul. Mostly, it has to do with confidence and willpower.

These transformations also showed an useful side as Liz and Patty, two demon weapons, were wielding each other during Kid's absence in the pyramid. They used transforming as evasion, switching themselves between weapon and human forms in order to evade the mummies' attacks. This shows that, somehow, demon weapons can also transform themselves directly into their intended wielder's hands.

Some Weapons in their Weapon form have certain components that move similarly to facial expressions; such as Soul, whose Weapon form has a red eye on top of the haft, which can convey his mood by narrowing when he is angry or ready to fight, or widening when he is startled. Ragnarok's Weapon form has a mouth on the blade near the guard. In Weapon form, Demon Weapons are usually invincible, and although they can feel the impact of the clashing with physical objects, they are protected by their Weapon form and cannot be hurt. Though they can also be hit by something extremely powerful and the Weapon can still be injured and may bleed, even in Weapon form.

Partnered with a Meister

At the DWMA, Demon Weapons are paired up with Meisters, skilled humans with great combat skills. With the Weapon's ability to strengthen their Meister, and vice versa, a Weapon and Meister team can combine their respective powers to become near unstoppable in battle. They can also make each other stronger by working together, making the bond between Weapon and Meister a strong and close one. In order to work together properly, the Meister must understand the Weapon's will, and vice versa. The Demon Weapon is not a normal weapon, or an inanimate object. It is a person with objectives. When perfectly in sync with each other, they can become a lethal force. Just by matching their breathing, a Weapon and Meister can fight flawlessly.

When paired with a Meister, a Weapon becomes extremely deadly. By performing resonance between a Meister and a Weapon, the Weapon can unleash a variety of abilities and can even change its physical form. This level of power can be achieved through what is known as a Soul Resonance, where both Meister and Weapon synchronize their souls with each other. In this state, their thoughts are both synchronized so well, that Weapons can even react to their Meister's emotions.

In theory, there is no restriction on who is capable of wielding a Weapon. Apart from meisters, it has been demonstrated that many other beings can wield a weapon: other Weapons within special cases such as a bond or being assisted by magic, animals, witches or even a soulless creature with a soul implanted within. However, in practice, the wielder's soul must be able to align with that of the Weapon or a rejection reaction effect will occur. This reaction is derived from a misalignment in the users' Soul Wavelengths, resulting from incompatible personalities, and appears to differ depending upon the individuals involved. For a Weapon and Meister to be compatible, they have to be able to accept and understand each others' personalities. Most compatible Weapon and Meister pairs seem to be opposites in personalities, especially seen with Black☆Star and Tsubaki, and Ox and Harvar. People with similar personalities like Soul and Black☆Star cannot become an efficient team. So far, Soul and Ragnarok are the only ones to show a rejection reaction though.

Symptoms of this rejection seem to vary on how much the Wavelengths are incompatible. When Black☆Star tries to wield Soul, their Wavelengths were so incompatible, that Black☆Star could not even lift Soul from the ground, and when Black☆Star sent his Wavelength through him, it caused the Demon Scythe physical harm. In the brief moment when Maka couldn't resonate with Soul, the rejection reaction was milder, but still harmful, as even though Maka is able to wield Soul, his Weapon form is extremely hot to the touch and she severely burns her hands until she can resonate with him again. Ragnarok's rejection reaction affects Crona as well as they both share the same body, and when their Wavelengths become misaligned, dozens of Bloody Needles erupt uncontrollably from Crona's body and the pair lose their ability to utilize the Black Blood. A rejection reaction can be taken so far up to the point that a Weapon and Meister permanently lose their ability to synchronize their souls. At the DWMA, Weapons and Meisters can also change partners if they wish.

Types of Demon WeaponsHe hasn't reached full strength yet, but I don't have my Death Scythes.

There's something missing here. This section of the article is incomplete and requires more information before it can be considered complete.

Ability TypeMult-Form High Performance Weapon

See also: Multi-Form AbilityA Multi-Form High Performance Weapon is a demon weapon who possesses the Multi-Form Ability, which gives a Demon Weapon the ability to inherit their ancestor's weapon forms.[13] This ability is exclusive to those within the Nakatsukasa Clan due to the fact they've descended from the original demon weapons Arachne herself created.[14]

Justin Law and Giriko fight, two autonomous weapons.

Autonomous weapons is a conjectural term given to demon weapons that are extremely skilled and are able to fight without restriction in spite of not being paired with a Meister. An autonomous weapon can be deadly without the general necessity of a meister even being present.[15][16]

While Demon Weapons are known to either be unskilled or have skills to a considerable degree depending on individuals, those who fall under this category are unable to be traditionally wielded, even by the most of eccentric of meisters. However, it is more than likely that no matter the strength the Autonomous weapon may seem to have autonomously, they are not actually at their full potential as a Weapon.

Not much is known truly on what a Stationary Weapon is. However, comments from Marie Mjolnir, suggest that Stationary Weapons are the type of weapons that lay out traps for their enemies. The naming of the weapon type also implies a weapon stays still when laying traps. The only known Stationary Weapon in Soul Eater is Justin Law.[17]

Gun Weapons, as the name implies, are weapons which transform into weaponry, particularly guns. In Soul Eater, these weapons do not seem to fire bullets typically but they actually fire compressed wavelength energy bullets which originate from their meister's wavelength.[18][19]

A Scythe Weapon is a sort of weapon whose transformation, as the namesake implies, is that of a scythe.[9] They are one of the more powerful types of weapons within the series; they possess theGreat Traditional Techniques of the Scythe-Meister, techniques implied to be potentially done by any Scythe-Meister and Scythe Weapon pairing.[20] Such abilities can kill unique beings from that of aWitch or a Sorcerer to even that of a Demon or in the anime, a Kishin.

Dark Weapons is an conjectural term given to demon weapons who have started the process of consuming human souls. Though not named in either the manga or anime, weapons who're noted to start consuming pure human souls have often been attribute in being closer to becoming that of a Demon Sword and eventually, a Kishin.

Also, those who consumed human souls are often known to have the ability to consume the soul of their meister given a chance.[21][22] If a Dark Weapon manages to over-hunt enough pure human souls, they'll become what's known as a Demon Sword. The exact number it takes to become a Demon Sword is unknown.

Death Weapon

Spirit, the most poweful Death Weapon and his meister, Death.

Main article: Death Weapon

Demon Weapons are known to have a "true form". As a human soul and a Witch Soul was needed to create the first Demon Weapons, if a Weapon consumes a 99 evil human souls (Kishin Eggin the anime) and a Witch Soul, they turn into a powerful Weapon known as a Death Weapon.[8][23]

Demon SwordsMain article: Demon Swords

Ragnarok, a known Demon Sword.

A Demon Sword is the polar opposite of the Death Weapon, created only from over-hunting of pure human souls and developing from a dark weapon.[21] Individuals who are Demon Swords are only one step away from becoming a Kishin. Only Ragnarok and Vajra are known demon swords.

Demon Swords are known to be powerful demon weapons on par with that of Death Weapon and are also, like Dark Weapons, able to consume their meister's soul. In addition, they're as durable as that of a Death Weapon. In the case of Vajra, a Demon Sword is strong enough to damage even aShinigami.

OtherHybrid

Maka utilizing her subconsious weapon abilities against Asura.

Main article: Weapon Meister HybridIn the anime, it is shown that in a rare case, a meister such as Maka Albarn, who's human and has a father who carries the Demon Weapon gene within him, is capable of utilizing partial weapon transformations and sprout weapon, despite not being a Death Weapon.[24]

Abilities

Demon Weapons in the series have a variety of abilities given due to their heritage. They're highly skilled in wavelength communication, which allows communication on a spirit level with meister and, most importantly in combat, allows them to receive or give energy. Demon Weapons also have the ability to partially transform their body parts in to a weapon. Depending on theme and abilities, Demon Weapons can also convert energy they are given into a set element such as fire, electricity or a slicing attack. The most known abilities for a Demon Weapon to have is the ability to eat/absorb the soul of a vanquished foe in order to make them stronger. They are noted as the true beings only able to become a kishin, with meisters like Asura having to resort to finding a method of combining themselves with their weapon to gain the status of a kishin.

There's also a number of given traits and/or abilities a Demon Weapon may have such as the Multi-Form Ability, in which a weapon can transform into multiple weapons. The Nakatsukasa Clan are known to have this ability, having passed down their previous weapon forms to Tsubaki Nakatsukasa and are direct descendants of the original Demon Weapon Arachne created.[25] In addition, traits like the Grigori Soul,[26] Earth Shaman abilities, and the Anti-Demon Wavelength[27] are also passable among the demon weapons.
