Have you seen the pits of hell? Pretty swanky...
Spirits
They were once human, but they died long ago. They have long since lost their humanity and any compassion they once had for it. They feel no emotions and play with humanity as they wish. But to do so they must hold a physical form. They cannot create one so they must take forms. Their stolen forms decay with age as any other would do so they must keep stealing forms. But only when the person or animal is about to die.
Now on to the playable spirits.
Death
"You cannot begin to comprehend something that existed before man." -Death
Death is the oldest spirit next to life. Death has always been there; watching and listening. Death brings sadness among humans, but Death can no longer fears itself.
Death was a man, once upon a time, who fought and killed endlessly. He was a warrior who killed with little regard. During his final battle he killed his last enemy. He celebrated on the battlefield, covered in the blood of the enemy. But his victim rose from the ground with a spear through his chest and killed him. He paid for his bad deeds and became what every man feared. Death.
Life
"Humanity is fickle, nature is where the beauty of Earth lies." -Life
Life is a very gentle being who cares more for the beauty of living creatures. Life was a girl who met her demise among nature. She was a kind woman who had known of Death when he was a man. She had admired him from afar, but she grew disgusted of his ways. She fled away to join nature, away from the cruelty of men. She cared for animals and thrived wonderfully. One day a mighty beast came to her territory. It killed all of her animals and ended with her. She was rewarded with eternity on Earth as the one thing she loved. Life.
Hatred
"How can you say you don't hate me when I can feel it radiating off you?" -Hatred
Hatred is a very antagonizing spirit. Hatred strives to cause rifts between people with hatred. Once there was a girl who was in love with a man. He loved her deeply, but rumors turned his love to hate. They argued and fought over what was the truth and what was a lie. She ended up leaving him and letting her hatred simmer and boil over. She died of old age, filled to the brim with Hatred. She was made the spirit of Hatred upon death.
Fear
"How can I fear something when it cannot hurt me?" -Fear
Fear goes about spreading the feeling of something creeping up behind you. You turn but find nothing there. She was a kind girl who was easily scared with everything around her. Small noises would make her jump and frighten her terribly. This continued her whole life until one day she decided she wouldn't be scared anymore. She tried hard, denying that things were scary. That was her demise. She was afraid of almost nothing at this point, and ended up falling to her death during an adventure up a mountain. She became the fearless spirit of Fear.
Love
"A heart does not only house love, but also life." -Love
Love is very calm and gentle towards humans. Love was a beautiful man once who admired love for more than just attraction. He saw it as something more. But in his long life he never found his own love. He had his heart broken so many times until his death at an old age. Now he is the spirit of Love, forever wandering to spread love.
Jealousy
"Don't assume that because I want something you have." -Jealousy
Jealousy is a secretive spirit. They hide everything except their jealousy; that is on their sleeve. They used to be a man who had everything. Except one thing he never got. He always saw people with it like it was nothing. Oh how he wanted it, but he would never have it. His jealousy turned him into a horrible man until his demise. He was cursed to be the one thing he was absolutely filled with. Jealousy.
Misfortune
"Misfortune follows me like a lost puppy, except the puppy is a wolf snarling at my heels." -Misfortune
Misfortune is a strange and very playful being. They were once a boy who played in the tall grass to hide away from his parents. But everyday he returned with scrapes and bruises. He always had the worst of luck, never really getting anything good to come his way. His married when he was older, but she left him for another man. He was sullen for a while before he moved on. But during a trip of his he fell from a cliff. He was then made into the spirit of Misfortune.
Turmoil
"Why can't I just scream my pain?" -Turmoil
Turmoil is very distraught spirit, having suffered so many troubles. Turmoil was a woman who lost her parents and siblings when she was little, leaving her alone in the world to fend for herself. She never made enough money to properly feed herself. In the end she died of starvation and became the spirit of Turmoil.
Joy
"Humans cannot thrive without happiness." -Joy
Joy is a very uplifting spirit who was a woman that never knew how to smile. She was given hardship after hardship that kept her spirits down. She was sad child who grew into a sad adult. She died at an early age of natural causes and became the spirit of joy so that she could spread joy where it was needed.
Luck
"Luck is like the sun, it rises and it falls." -Luck
Luck is a very selfless spirit that was a selfless man once. He helped anyone who needed it. He made sure that everyone around him was happy before he thought of himself. He died a happy man at an old age. He was rewarded with being the spirit of Luck to spread fortune over the world.
Greed
"If I can't have it, why does it exist?" -Greed
Greed was a man who had everything and wanted everything. He wanted money, jewels, fame, everything his eye could see, he wanted it. He needed it. He died earlier than expected and was punished for his greed by wandering the Earth as the spirit of Greed.
Exhaustion
"Please do not assume I am sleeping if my eyes are closed." -Exhaustion
Exhaustion is very subdued and curious about everything. Exhaustion was a young girl who slept so much. She went to bed early and woke late. She would take naps during the day and often slept through events. She met her demise as she slept when someone thought her dead. They buried her alive and she suffocated, dying far too early. She was made the spirit of Exhaustion.
Friendship
"One cannot be complete without the other half." -Friendship
Friendship was a woman who strongly believed no soul could be complete without their other half. She said it was not their lover, but their friend. Souls were made in two pieces and she would search for hers. She found her other half; a man who seemed her opposite. Her complemented her in everyway, but they were only friends. She died shortly before him and their souls merged to form the perfect, whole spirit. Friendship.
Kindness
"Kindness comes from the deepest parts of your heart, not your mind." -Kindness
Kindness was a sweet girl who never felt the true hatred of the world. Everyone told her she was too sweet for the world, that she had a true heart of gold. Sadly she became ill, but she kept up her kindness until her end. She was rewarded for her golden heart to spread kindness to those who need it.
Strife
"What does your anger have to do with strife?" -Strife
Strife was woman who was easily angered. She would yell at people for stupid reasons, but they caused her to get mad and argue. She eventually died a bitter old woman and became the spirit of Strife.
Anxiety
"It's hard knowing anxiety from fear." -Anxiety
Anxiety was a man who hardly left his house for the anxiety that shadowed over him like a blanket. Nearly everything around him would cause his anxiety to flare up. Once when he went out he caught ill and became hospitalized. In the end he died from a heart attack and not the illness. He later became the spirit of Anxiety
Non Playable Characters
These characters apply to the same rules, but they cannot be played for various reasons.
Sadness
"Sadness is only in the mind, but it feels so real." -Sadness
Legend goes that Sadness was the first spirit. She created all other spirits so she would never feel lonely again. But in doing so she could not create a physical form for herself. She felt even more alone than ever. As it is said she ran away to hide where no one would find her, making her just a myth and legend.
Eternals
Eternals are different from spirits in that they do not need to steal physical forms. They make their own to walk among humans. They were not locked away with the spirits as there true existence is only known to the spirits. Humans know of them, but only in sayings and myths. Eternals are unplayable due to the immense power they hold.
Mother Nature
"I have seen and created all that man shall not know for eons." -Mother Nature
Mother Nature chooses to travel among humans without notice. She is naturally a very large woman who can become mountains, islands, and cause earthquakes. When she travels through the Earth she creates earthquakes that rock the ground. She not only travels the Earth, but the stars. In human form she is dark skinned woman who looks too perfect to be real.
Father Time
"I have bested the one thing I control." -Father Time
Father Time choses to live as a statue. He holds still as he controls time like nothing. He causes people to wither and grow old. For things to grow and die. He was called many over the years but Father Time was his oldest and most cherished. Like Mother Nature he can create colossal forms as well as a mortal image. His is an old man who seems as though he should be dust.
