He married Rose's mom, Helena, when her mother set Helena up with him in an arranged marriage. Rose was raised to be a proper girl and stay quiet. Rose was given a private tutor (even though girls were normally not given them) and was taught well. Helena wanted Rose to be both intelligent and beautiful so that she would be a successful woman and a great mother. Rose was taught to be quiet and respectful. When she was was 10 years old she started writing in secret because her father thought women weren't smart enough to write and if her father found out she was writing he would call satanic. After her father died she left the church for one of the first times and met all the other people. She started befriending people and now she loves socialising and hanging out with friends.

Unable to find work, he moved back to his home town and worked as a minister, forever at odds with the people and church he once knew as a Catholic
