The nicotine certainly helped calm Cain down, though as he stood out there smoking, he realized he should have brought one of those expensive liquor bottles out with him. Thinking about the liquor bottles made him think about Kaya, though, and how homey she'd looked making drinks over there with fuckface mcgee. His anger boiled again, and he was halfway back to the door to go beat the fuckers face in before he realized what he was doing. Taking a deep drag off the cigarette, he backed away from the door, spinning around again and putting his back to it. He wasn't the type to back down from a fight, and more often than not, he initiated them. Whether he won or not, he always made sure to get some good hits in before going down himself.

How the hell was this supposed to work? How could he and Kaya win that money if they couldn't even make a relationship work? Groaning, he lifted his free arm to rest against one of the pillars, leaning his forehead on his arm. The cigarette burned slowly in his other hand, and he didn't move when he heard the door sliding open. "Nope." He responded to Kaya's question, pulling his head off his arm to inhale from the cigarette again. Afterwards, he tossed it to the side, letting it burn in the grass as he left the porch. The yard was huge, but it still wasn't big enough for him to run. After all, that's how he solved all his problems. Running. He ran from everything; it was something he and his little brother had in common. Abe had run from Olivia, and he'd run from Kaya.

But he couldn't leave this place, and that only infuriated him further. He headed for the pool, staring down into the water at his rippled reflection. He wasn't suicidal, but he'd be lying if he hadn't thought about jumping in and holding onto a cement block. Only for a second. Plopping down on the edge, he crossed his legs, resting his arms on his knees. He didn't even know if Kaya had followed him, or was going to, but he just knew he couldn't go back in there. Even though he didn't want to admit it, part of him was embarrassed. Not really at how he acted, because he'd certainly acted worse around people he actually gave a shit about. His embarrassment stemmed from the way that he couldn't control his feelings, mostly about the girl he still had feelings for. As much as he wanted to pretend he didn't, it was stupid of him to do so.

Corryn Russell.

  • In the beginning, Corryn wasn't entirely sure about going on the show. She originally agreed to find dirt on Grayson, to gather intel on him like she was fairly certain he was doing on her. But somewhere along the way, she had forgotten that a bit and had started to actually enjoy her time there. Reality shows had never been her favorite, nor did she understand too much about their inner workings. It had never occurred to her that producers and writers would manufacture interactions in the hopes of stirring the pot and causing arguments and fights between them all in the name of higher ratings. She didn't realize that in post-production editing, her words might be twisted and taken in the wrong context so that she might be the bitch, overly uptight, or apathetic. And that might be a harsh truth for her later on. At that moment, she was just enjoying being surrounded by fairly like-minded people.

Other than her coworkers, Cory wasn't one to make friends easily. Most of the people she considered "friends" were either college colleagues that she only talked to every once in a while or coworkers that were several years older than her and mostly male. She worked all the time, so why would she need to fraternize with anyone else? All they would do is take up time that she could be using or spending on her job and career path. So, living in that house not only was opening her up to new experiences but also potentially expanded her friend circle and her views on the idea of friendship altogether. From her conversation with Declan, it was readily apparent that she could hold an entertaining and engaging discussion about something other than work if she found the right people. So, despite her lone wolf, career-above-all-else belief system, there was a possibility relationships and friendships could be worth something.

The blonde glanced up as Kaya approached with a tray of cocktails, glancing at the array of glasses and colored liquids on it. She wasn't a fan of overly sweet things, and fruit cocktails tended to be that way. So instead, she grabbed one that was more amber in color, hoping that it was dark rum or whiskey. Bringing it to her lips, she smiled when she tasted a classic Manhattan, one of her favorite drinks. "Kaya, these are-" Cory began to say but paused when she realized the brunette was no longer with them. Shrugging it away, she took another sip and began loading food onto her plate. "Not so bad, thanks for asking," the marketing executive said to Nat, glancing at her bandaged finger. It still stung a little but was quickly going away. The blonde saw Gray lean back next to her out of the corner of his eye, revealing those muscles that she wanted so badly to run her fingers over. But that feeling quickly dissipated into fiery jealousy when she saw Natalie looking as well and Grayson winking in return.

For whatever reason, she found herself not only bitter towards Natalie, but Grayson as well. It was still a relatively new emotion for her to acknowledge, and so she didn't quite understand it all that well. "They'll catch up when they get back," she answered, referring to whether or not they should wait for Cain and Kaya. Her stomach growled in agreement. Adding a small amount of salad and pasta to her plate, she took another sip from her Manhattan but nearly choked at Grayson's words. Still annoyed with his blatant flirting with Natalie earlier, Corryn found herself rolling her icy blue eyes. Clicking her nails against the side of her glass, she shot a smirk in his direction. "You can look all you want, Gray. That doesn't mean I'm going to let you touch."

Abel Rothenberg.

  • When Abel first received the request for this show, he thought it was an easy way to make money combined with the opportunity to live like the rich and famous he envied, if only for a little bit. He assumed it was one of those Big Brother-type shows where the cast members were supposed to be normal, everyday people with relatable lives and backstories. For that reason, he never in million years thought that Olivia would be the ex he would run into. Not only was she an heiress, but she was a famous musician. Why would she ever need to go on a show like that one? Of course, Abe didn't know about the stuff that put her in the negative spotlight. He did his best to avoid anything in the tabloids and news about her. Olivia was his first real love, and as the saying goes, one never forgets or stops loving their first. He'd had quite a few female companions since then, but they were mostly toxic back-and-forths that never lasted very long. No, Olivia was the only one that really ever mattered to him.

But if he were going to survive and maybe someday find a happy life, Abel would have to move on, would have to find a way to get over her. He could keep hoping that one day they would end back up together. But, for that to happen, he would magically have to make his way into her father's good graces. Or she would have to go against her father's wishes. Both were seemingly impossible and therefore, so was their potential relationship. So, at least those other girls served a different purpose. Though they would never be to him what Olivia was, they could fill the void. If only for a little bit, anyway. Despite his attempt at a smooth transition over his slip-up, Abe didn't miss the expression on her face in response. She said it was okay, but somehow he didn't quite think that it was. Not completely, anyway. As curious as he was about the split-second emotion that crossed her face, the blonde man kept it to himself. Instead, he reached for his glass and took another sip from the expensive cognac.

"That's fantastic, I'm happy for you," Abel responded with a sincere smile. And he was. He thought that maybe he should buy the album after all of that was said and done, give it a listen. But would it hurt more than it helped? He wasn't sure. So, he'd probably leave it on the shelf. He didn't miss the dullness in her tone and as he took a bite of his dinner, he tilted his head at her curiously. But she didn't elaborate. Instead, she lowered her fork and her voice, asking him if they could do something crazy. He could hear the need in her voice, and he didn't even hesitate. Instead, he took one last sip of his liquor and stood from the table. The Rothenberg brother straightened his bowtie and then held out his hand for Olivia, waiting patiently for her to take it. Once she did, he casually led them towards the grand piano. But instead of requesting a song, he quickly pulled her out of the exit placed strategically behind it. They were going to lose those meddling paparazzi if it was the last thing they did.

"Quick, let's get in the car before they realize we're gone," Abel said once they were out in fresh air once again. He opened the door for her when they reached the SUV, helping her in before racing around the other side to hop in the driver's seat. But the time he was peeling out of the fancy restaurant's parking lot, a cameraman was just sticking his head out of the front door. But it was too late. They were long gone before the TV show's crew could even get their gear in the car to follow. From his years of working on and with cars, Abel knew exactly how that expensive SUV would handle. Soon they were racing down an outer road above the beach, away from any scrutinizing eyes and lenses. An unintentional grin graced his features, loving the feeling of being behind the wheel of something he didn't pick out of a junk pile. A sign that read 'Private Beach' caught his attention, and he turned down a side road towards it. Soon they were parked inches away from the sand and a few yards from the water. Turning his attention back to Olivia, Abe shrugged sheepishly. "I know we're not dressed for a walk on the beach. But it's better than cameras recording our every move, right?"

Cain ( apolla apolla )

Kaya only joined the show for one reason. Only one thing truly motivated her to go and promenade herself and her life on TV. The money. Winning sounded so good she could barely contain herself and she could really use that sum to move her life elsewhere. Being a bartender in a shabby pub was not good enough and honestly, mixing cocktails for tonight’s dinner was the first time after forever that she could actually put her mixology skills to use and create proper cocktails. Not just pour plain shots or make a few White Russians for a few stray bitches who came stuck to the side of some designated bad boy bikers. These Manhattans were truly a work of art and Kaya enjoyed making them very much. And she wanted to keep enjoying how it felt to make them every day. That’s why she needed to win. Alas, for it to happen, she needed to figure out a thing or two. Most of all, how to talk to Cain or at least stay with him in the same room without wanting to hurt him severely.

They both needed to step back and realize what was important. Kaya decided to be the bigger person here and before joining the dinner, she walked out to the yard just where Cain had disappeared a few moments ago. She knew him enough to be familiar with his habits and just as expected, he was sulking there, a cigarette stuck between his fingers, refusing to be a big boy and behave once again. So many things were crawling to Kaya’s tongue but none of them was going to deescalate the whole situation. Whatever she said next had to be polite or at least somehow nice so she simply asked him about the dinner. But fucking Cain just had to be himself all the time.

“Fucking typical.” Kaya growled and balled her hands into fists. She had already seen Cain’s back so many times and she was getting tired of it. Running all the time, not being able to face his problems. All Cain. Her jaw tightened and before she could stop herself, Kaya started marching after him. “Seriously, Cain? Again?” she snarked after finding him sitting on the edge of the pool. “I thought you came here to win.” she snapped, placing her hands on her hips to stop them from balling. “But now I see how it is. You can’t do it, can you, Cain? You can’t be where you are not the one and only, mighty Cain. The slightest inconvenience and you’re running. All the fucking time. How about this time you act like a real man and face whatever issues are banging on your damn thick head? Stop fucking running and for once, prove me that you’re not just a guy raised by a brainwashed mother. Or at least prove it to yourself, eh? Or run. Do whatever you want but if you run this time, never stop, Cain, because then not just me but everyone will see the pathetic scared little boy you are!” Was she harsh? Probably. But she was also extremely pissed and done with dealing with an immature boy he could sometimes be.

Natalie, Gray ( Desert_Blossom Desert_Blossom ); Corry ( MadiRaiCat MadiRaiCat )

The look Natalie shot him did very little to phase Declan. What? He was a football player, he had always been competitive and even more so when it came for what he considered his. Sure, call him jealous and possessive, he wouldn’t argue. Cain had his own girl there and he should be doing his best to make sure they won. Instead, it seemed that the toxic couple was the one to provide entertainment on the national TV because while the other couples were at least trying to make things work between them, if for nothing else, then to win the prize, Cain and Kaya kept spewing venom at each other. And Declan didn’t care at all, they could do it their way. But the second it started to step into his circle, he was ready to fight. So yes, he was happy when Cain left and finally his grubby paws were far away from Natty. One more move and there would be blood. Not just Corry’s minor cut. Way more blood from busted lips and broken noses.

But the crisis was averted and they all finally managed to sit at the table and start dinner. Once again, Kaya and Cain did their own thing so it was just Dec with Nat and Corry with Gray. Their plates were slowly getting filled with food and they all had their drinks, a courtesy of miss mixologist. Declan was happy to hear Natalie’s foot was feeling better and his arm landed on the back of her chair ever so casually just as Gray shot back. Testosterone levels were through the roof tonight. Not that Declan would ever admit it. “Pool, hm? That sounds like a nice idea. Might go and have a look as well. What do you say, Natty?” he smirked and reached for his drink to take a long sip as he gazed at Grayson as if he was trying to stare him down.

“There you have it, mate.” Declan busted out laughing when Corry replied to his flirty tease. He also added some salad to his pasta, quite a pile at that so he wouldn’t hear it later on for stuffing himself with carbs for dinner. If only one thing was certain it was his trainer watching the show and making sure to put some notes down on what Declan did and ate this whole time so once he was at home, the guy could lay it onto him and punish his ass at the gym. Not that Dec couldn’t take it, he also planned on hitting the gym in the house. But for a change, it was nice not to think all about his diet and workout plan. “Do you guys think there’s going to be a task every day? Like, are we collecting points? Victories? How does it work here?” he asked to change the topic a little. He also wasn’t too fond of flirty comments to Natalie if they weren’t his own so maybe this was a nice neutral ground.

Natalie Mayfair

Up until her falling out with Declan, to put their breakup nicely, Natalie had never bothered to involve herself with pettiness or drama. She was the sweet girl next door, innocent and perhaps a bit naive to the uglier side of the world. Even her campaign for class president had been tame since there was very little dirt to find on the 17 year old Natalie Mayfair. Now though… well, she had practically signed up for a free airing of all her dirty laundry. And the worst part- she thought she’d be smart enough to come out clean. To avoid getting sucked into the manipulated drama and fights. To fade quietly to the background while finally getting her closure with Declan in the form of an apology. And all of that looked rather unlikely, if not impossible at this point.

Only the second day in, and Natalie had already been coerced, again to put it nicely, by producers to stir the pot while preparing dinner. Her cocktail of liquor and pain killers making the usually morally steadfast blonde more prone to playing along with ploys to cause jealousy. She felt bad for getting Cain in trouble, with both Kaya and Declan, but her guilt didn’t take root deeply enough to prevent her from paying extra attention to Grayson simply to irritate her ex. And Kaya’s strong Long Island was unlikely to help Natalie remember she was on national television. Or that she loathed Declan. Or was supposed to at least.

The footballer’s arm rested on the back of her chair, the warmth it radiated against her shoulders more familiar than foreign even after their years apart. Natalie flicked her blue eyes up at Dec when he suggested they might also check out the pool, noticing his pointed smirk at Grayson. The guys weren’t about to come to blows like earlier, but there was tension. “If you two think you can handle not drowning each other, then a dip could be nice…” The blonde replied, half teasing. The odds of that happening didn’t look good though as Dec laughed at Corryn’s ‘look but can’t touch’ comment at Gray’s expense. Nat just shook her head at Dec and took another long pull of her drink, nearly choking at Gray’s comeback. She shot the marketing exec a dirty look, but he didn’t seem to care or notice, too busy staring down Declan. Nat just rolled her eyes- men could make anything into a competition. The producers didn’t even need to bother with giving them challenges.

Speaking of which… She just shrugged a slim shoulder in response to her ex’s question about the competition. His guess was as good as hers, and she had a feeling that was deliberate on the producers’ part. Keeping everyone in the dark could only add to the angst. “Can’t wait to see what they have us do next…” She sighed sarcastically, going to take a bite of pasta, but electing to stab some lettuce onto her fork instead. She glanced over at Corryn and Grayson to see what their theories were on the matter.

Grayson Moore

There were two main components to Grayson and Corryn’s relationship, at least the way he saw it. Professional and physical. They were a dynamic team at work, practically unmatchable. They ate, slept and breathed marketing, which might have been a turn off for someone outside the profession, but since they were both equally invested, it was more of a turn on. And while romance may have been missing from the equation, chemistry and passion were not. The end of their professional relationship had ended their actual relationship, which in turn ended the physical one too. But now that they were back to working together, it was only too easy for Grayson to want to resume their more intimate matters as well. At least at a basic level. It wasn’t like he was trying to seduce Cory into falling back into bed with him, yet, but it seemed Corryn was drawing the line even at some fun in the pool.

You can look all you want, Gray. That doesn't mean I'm going to let you touch. The marketing exec’s grin fell at Corryn’s response, wounded by her retort which quickly elicited laughter from Declan. He shot her a “whose team are you on?” look, before turning back to his opponent. Gray’s eyes narrowed and his grip around his glass tightened a little, but he forced his mouth into an amused grin to mask his bruised ego.

“Laugh all you want, mate. It’s not like you’re getting any luckier here.” He replied, leaning in over the table towards Declan conspiratorially. “Cain’s noodle got more action than you’re going to.” He added in a lower tone, more for effect than to prevent the others from hearing his jab. He caught the look Natalie gave him out of the corner of his eye, but ignored it. All was fair in love and war in his opinion. Gray offered Dec a true smirk this time, raising his glass a little in a mock toast to him before draining the rest of it.

Returning to his plate of food, Grayson took a few bites as Declan brought up the actual competition they’d all signed up for. Unlike Natalie who didn’t seem thrilled to find out what the next challenge was, Grayson couldn’t wait. He was biting at the bit for a chance to even the score. He and Cory hadn’t come in their usual first place, but second didn’t put them too far behind. As far as he was concerned, Abe and Olivia’s win was just a fluke and not something that was going to be repeated. His biggest obstacle it seemed was just getting his ex to warm up to him a little more, and then they’d be unstoppable.

“Before the next challenge they should explain how the point system is going to work. Only fair so we can all strategize.” Gray chimed in. While his company was marketing this show, that unfortunately didn’t give him anymore incite into the structure. They were all equally clueless in that regard. “What do you think Cory?” Gray asked, glancing at his ex. “If there’s a challenge tomorrow, you ready to show these guys who they’re really up against?”

crying in the club

When Olivia had signed up for the show, she never imagined that she'd be seeing Abel opposite her. And even if she had, she never would have thought that she would be feeling this... torn. She'd done her best at burying her feelings for him since he left, or so she'd thought. In reality, all she'd done was place a band-aid over the wound, and seeing him again was akin to ripping it off. Now she was sitting across from him at a fancy dinner neither of them felt comfortable at, metaphorically bleeding as though she'd torn open the skin all over again. Maybe that's why she suddenly felt the urge to get out of here, to do something like they used to do. They'd never had a plan, and that was part of what she'd enjoyed most about being with him. She'd been able to live in the moment, and enjoy the present.

He didn't hesitate. When he stood and held his hand out to her, she felt her heart doing flip-flops like it used to. Matching his movements, she placed her hand in his and let him help her to her feet. They were going to give the cameras a show-- until they ditched them. She walked close to him, even resting her head on his shoulder as they approached the piano. But then he pulled her through the exit, and she broke out into a grin as the fresh air hit her face. Nodding in response to his words, she hiked up the dress some so she could walk a little faster, letting him help her into the passenger seat of the SUV. Within seconds of her door shutting, he was hopping into the driver's seat, and her head turned to look at the exit they'd come out of. The door remained shut, but she did catch sight of the cameraman by the front door as Abe led the SUV out of the parking lot. Liv even sent him a wave, giggling softly before she turned her attention back to the road ahead of them.

She recognized the beach as they drove closer on it, and she automatically leaned forward in her seat, scanning the area with a grin on her face similar to his. He parked the car a few short minutes later, and she reached for the door handle but paused when she heard his voice. "It's perfect." She told him, her eyes lit up with excitement. "And who says we're not dressed for the beach?" She looked down at the high-slitted dress she wore, and before he could even say anything, she reached for the two sides and tore. It took a bit of time, but she didn't care for perfection. Eventually she reached the other side and dropped the excess part of the skirt onto the floor of the SUV, reaching for the door handle and pushing it open. She slid down to the ground, then paused, looking down. Her shoes joined the rest of the skirt, and she looked up at Abe, lifting her arms and doing a quick spin. "See? Any outfit can be a beach outfit. You coming, slowpoke?"

Sitting there wallowing in his own misery, he didn't know or care if Kaya was going to follow him. For all he cared, she could stay in there and flirt with that other fuckhead. Hell, maybe they could switch up teams in this game and he could get paired with Natalie. They'd worked well together making the pasta and sauce, so who's to say they couldn't win this whole thing? He already knew that he and Kaya were fucked, and though he was mostly to blame this time, he wasn't to blame all of the time. Kaya had her own insecurities that came out at the worst times, same as he did. Like now. Embarrassed that he couldn't stop himself from caring, he'd decided that it was better to be alone before his fists started speaking for him. But of course, he wasn't alone for long.

His shoulders tensed when he heard her voice, grating on his highest nerve and making his fingers ball into fists. "Fuck off, Kaya." He warned, but as per usual, she didn't listen. He scoffed at her words about winning, just shaking his head in response, but she wasn't done. Her words just kept coming and coming, and his anger spiked. Pushing himself up to his feet, he whirled around to face the bitchy ex of his, anger blazing in his eyes. "Don't you know when to shut the fuck up?" He growled at her, taking a few steps in her direction before he stopped himself. "Fuck, Kaya, the last thing I need is you barking down my neck. Don't you see? That's why we fucking fight all the time. When I walk away, it's not because I need you to follow me, but because I need fucking space."

If she'd been harsh, he knew his words were the same. "Jesus fuck." Reaching up, he ran his fingers through his hair, glancing back towards the house. He'd half expected someone to be looking out of the window, or even coming to rescue her from her big bad ex, but it was still just the two of them. Sliding his gaze back to Kaya, he could feel anger making his whole body shake. "I don't want to fucking fight, Kaya, but if you really still think we can win? You're in for a hell of a shock." His voice was low, so very angry, and he shook his head again before he turned his back to her. "Just go back inside. Enjoy dinner with them. I'm not hungry, nor do I want to sit there and socialize while you make fuck-me eyes at the other guys in there. Fuckin' got it? Leave me alone."

Corryn Russell.

  • Jealousy. It was an emotion Corryn did not know too much about when it came to romantic relationships. Sure, she had her fair share of jealousy in the workplace, like when someone got praise instead of her, or when a coworker's pitch got picked over hers. Despite how gorgeous she looked in jewel tones, green most certainly wasn't the blonde's favorite color. But jealousy in her job felt different than this. It made her feel more anger than anything else. And the result was generally that she was mad at herself, thinking that it was her fault and that she could have done better if she had just tried a little bit harder. But this? This was something different. This felt somehow more negative. Like she was hurt, or there was a bitterness welling up in her chest or something, threatening to choke her or take her breath away. And at the focus of that energy was Grayson with his cocky smirk and Natalie with her meek innocence.

How interesting that Grayson would even first with someone like Natalie. Not that she wasn't gorgeous, because she was. And not because she was a bad person. From the brief moments they had interacted, she seemed like a sweet enough girl. But, she didn't seem like his type. Cory had always assumed Gray preferred girls with a bit of rough-and-tough to them. Headstrong and straightforward and aggressive, for lack of better words. Maybe it was because she had only known the woman for a few days, but Nat didn't seem to fit that bill. At least not to her. Then again, Corryn had seen the way Natalie had acted on the course. She was a strong competitor and Cory was not about to underestimate her just by what she could see at the surface level. No, if their audition process was anything like the one she had to go through than the other couples, the other women were chosen for a reason. They were chosen because the producers thought they could win and would bring in some views along with them.

Declan's laugh pulled Corryn out of her thoughts, and her icy blue gaze found him. She rolled her eyes though a smirk graced the edges of her lips. The last thing she or any of them needed, well except for the producers, was a stupid macho man fight. She caught sight of Grayson's look and offered him an involuntary softer smile, hoping that it would patch some things up. She kept her words to herself for a moment, also wondering what the game plan was for the competition. She could only imagine it would be several weeks with one or two challenges a week and the rest of the time spent as carefully planned outings and hangouts that would get enough juicy B-roll to fluff the rest of the hour-long program. Taking a sip from her Manhattan, she perked up at the sound of her name, glancing over at the handsome brunette alongside her. He stoked her competitive fires, and she felt it begin to burn through her veins. "For sure, we'll be standing on top of that podium from here on out."

With just the two butting-heads alpha males and their exes at the table, tension had started to fill the air. And as the resident usual-head-bitch-in-charge, Corryn thought it her job to relieve a bit of that tension, in her own little way. And that way just happened to also be a way to remind them that it was the women who were truly in charge. She finished off the pasta and salad that was on her plate before throwing back the rest of her Manhattan in one smooth motion. Placing her palms flat on the table, the blonde pushed herself up into a standing position. The Manhattan was stronger than she anticipated, and she felt it go to her head a bit with the quick motion which might be a good thing in the long run. "Well, I don't know about you all. But I think it's about time that I check out that pool," Cory said with a smirk. Pacing over to the pool, she carefully stripped down to her swimsuit, folding her clothes and neatly placing them on a beach chair. Turning her icy blue gaze back to the group, she smirked and said, "Well, don't make me swim alone. Come on!" And with that, she dove into the cool blue waters of the pool.

Abel Rothenberg.

  • Abel Rothenberg was nothing if not a laid-back, calm guy. But he also prided himself on being fun and though usually calculated, spontaneous when others needed that side of him. And from the look Olivia gave him back at the restaurant, it was clear that she needed it. That was just the type of person Abel was, though in some cases, it could definitely be a bad thing. Hell, the case and point was his brother. While Cain saved Abel's ass far more than the reverse, there had certainly been some moments in their lives where Abel was on the chopping block because of his older brother. Cain had this way of getting himself into pickles, and he knew that all he had to do was give Abe that puppy dog look of his for the younger Rothenberg brother to say yes to absolutely anything. They were a dynamic duo, a sibling rivalry, and a brotherhood all rolled into one. With the childhood they had, Abe wouldn't want any other brother in the world.

The 'Private Beach' sign hung in the back of his mind, and Abe briefly wondered what high-horse-riding millionaire's property they were currently trespassing on. Maybe there weren't any paparazzi cameras watching them. But who knew if there were security cameras hidden around somewhere waiting to bust them? Because, at the end of the day, the network and show might pay for their bail and lawyers, might talk some angry landowners out of pressing charges with the promise of a payout or mentioning them on the show. But if they didn't, Liv's father would no doubt pay off the family and no one would hear about it. Meanwhile, Abe would be thrown to the wolves with the threat of prison time hanging over his head, ever a part of the vicious cycle that the rich get richer and the poor are left to rot. As much as Abel hated that, hated how he was practically forced out of Olivia's life too, he couldn't blame her for it. She had been his rock back then, and he wished she still was.

A beach most certainly wasn't a place for a man in a tuxedo and a woman in a ballgown. But Olivia didn't seem to care. Instead, her eyes lit up as they used when they used to take their little jaunts back then. Much to his surprise, she grabbed her expensive gown and ripped over half the skirt off. With a grin, he untied his bowtie and slipped out of his jacket, tossing both into the backseat of the SUV. Kicking open the driver's side door, he slipped out his shoes and socks, taking a moment to roll up his pant legs before his bare feet touched the ground. Abe paced around the front of the truck, just in time for Liv took look up at him and do a quick spin. He let out a low chuckle at the sight of the tattered skirt she had created, unable to help the smile from turning up the corners of his lips. Yes, that was certainly the Olivia he remembered from all those years ago.

"That it can," Abel responded, gesturing to his own slightly disheveled appearance. Unable to keep the smile from his face, the blonde man held out his hand to Liv. He waited for her to take it before turning and stepping out onto the sand towards the water. The salty yet warm sea breeze was comforting, and the sound of the waves against the sandy beach calming. For the first time in a while, he felt relaxed. The muscles in his shoulders seemed to release as the sand exfoliated and massaged his feet with each step. Olivia's hand was soft and warm in his, and Abe found himself glancing down at her. "Can honestly say this is not how I saw the rest of the evening going," he murmured, turning his gaze out towards the water. "But I'm really glad this is how it turned out."

Cain ( apolla apolla )

The last thing Kaya needed was another fight in front of everyone but it seemed it was the way she and Cain communicated. Nothing ever got done without yelling and screaming with them. There were only two modes in their relationship, either they were sugary sweet with each other, refusing to leave bedroom for days, living off takeouts and their love, or their rage scorched the ground and their voices echoed across half of the city, their claws came out and they bloodied each other’s soul with more and more hurtful rakes as they kept yelling the worst insults neither of them truly meant. It seemed like they couldn’t simply find that healthy balance and just like before, this time was exactly the same. Cain left the room, Kaya followed but instead of a mature discussion, they ended up in yet another dispute, veins on their temples pulsing, threatening to explode any second now.

His growl should have been enough but Kaya was always blind and deaf to any warning signs. Soon, he was towering over her and while her heart was sounding the alarm bells, beating wildly, she couldn’t budge. Not now. To hide her own fear, her words kept pouring out until Cain’s next growl. No, Kaya truly didn’t know when to shut up. She never did. “Oh, you need space? Really? You always need fucking space, Cain, that’s your fucking problem. You need space and usually find it between the legs of the first whore you find. There’s a space for sure. You’re wrong. We fight because you cannot face your problems, you cannot talk to me, I never know what’s going on in that thick head of yours, you leave me hanging, guessing, suffocating in whatever mental fit you’re going through. So yes, we fight because I’m trying to get you to talk and you keep shutting me out.”

Kaya’s chest was now rising and falling and she was way too close to letting tears roll down her face. The last time he saw her cry… Well, he never did. Kaya kept her tears for the pillow and made it her point that no one would ever witness her tears. Least of all, Cain. But he was really outdoing himself right now. “That’s what you want? To be alone all the time?” she asked and the proximity of crying opened the way for the nastiest part of her. “If you at least tried to think about it, you’d know. I wouldn’t have to make no eyes at other men if my own looked at me just once and saw me for who I am. All you ever needed me for was a good fuck. I was there only to make you feel better about your fucked up life, wasn’t I? So you could prove to yourself you’re not a failure, that you could have a life of your own. Well, newsflash, asshole. You’re no better than your brother, you’re no better than your crazy mother.” Kaya hissed one lie after the other at him. Once again, she didn’t mean any of it but Cain cut too deep and she didn’t know any other retort but to hurt him equally or more. “Everything you touch burns.” she finished her speech with her bottom lip pouty and quivering from withholding the tears. And then, to put a cherry on top of this whole fucked up scene, she removed the remaining distance between them, her hands found muscles of his chest and with all she had, she pushed him backwards, hoping he would receive the exact cold shower he was in a dire need of.

Natalie, Gray ( Desert_Blossom Desert_Blossom ); Corry ( MadiRaiCat MadiRaiCat )

Declan Bennet wasn’t a guy who would back away from the challenge. He had never been and it got him in trouble quite a few times. Back at high school, he had Natalie to keep him in check and she was doing an exceptional job at it. Whether Dec liked to admit it now or not, Natty was his anchor, the proverbial cheese light at the end of the tunnel. She guided him through life and helped him to steer clear of obstacles so when she was suddenly gone, no wonder Declan hit a few of those, trying to navigate in the dark. His lighthouse was out of service and as it seemed, it would never light up for him again. So when the show reunited them, it only made sense to him to see it as a sign and try to fix what they both fucked up. Because while he knew it was his fault what happened between them, no one could convince him Natalie didn’t have her own fair share in it.

“Am I not though?” Declan grinned meaningfully, bringing his drink back to his lips. With his arm draped around Natalie, not really touching her, just the chair, his fingers still found her shoulder and drew little circles on her skin. Gray couldn’t get to him. Not with those cheap shots. Moreover, Dec had his training with the media and their jabs. This guy? Meh, couldn’t phase him. Yet the change of topic felt like the safest option and Declan brought the attention to the competition. As an athlete, he needed rules, he needed to know what the agenda was here, the points system, the way to, as Gray put it, strategize. Dec was sure he could win any game but first, he needed to know how to play it and the producers were not particularly sharing people, from what he could see now. “Whatever it is, I’m sure we can battle it, eh?” he turned to the blonde by his side and offered her a charming wink.

As it turned out, Cory had the best idea and announced the pool time. Declan was absolutely down and he quickly devoured what was left of his food. “You coming?” he flashed a grin at the other two as he followed Cory. He also undressed himself until there was nothing left but swimming shorts and for a moment, he couldn’t help but admire the white bikini already in the water. What? He was just a weak man, couldn’t he appreciate it? Blinking the momentary haze away, Declan jumped in the pool as well, sinking under the water, swimming for a few seconds before he emerged to the surface and pushed wet strands of hair back. He would have preferred the outside pool much more but this also had its charm and it was way closer. “Kaya and Cain have no idea what they’re missing.” he grinned. “Natty, come on! What’s taking forever? Swimming is good for that ankle of yours too, don’t leave me waiting. And don’t make me come for you either.” he called out with an almost dangerous glint in his eyes.

Natalie Mayfair

Initially, Natalie was relieved that Corryn was trying to break up the tension at the dinner table by deciding it was pool time. Sure, there was the slight possibility that one of the guys would try to drown the other one, but with all the cameras around them someone would surely step in before actual drowning occurred. However, once the blonde exec, followed by Declan, followed by Grayson stripped out of their clothes and into the more revealing swimwear, Natalie wasn’t so sure how she felt being in a bikini on national TV. She was no prude, but people on the internet were mean, and come on- if marketing didn’t work out for Cory then she surely would have a job in the modeling industry after this show aired. Yeah Natalie had packed swimsuits with the intent to wear them, but now that reality was facing her…

A third splash in the pool announced that Natalie was the only hold out, and she chewed on her lip watching the others enjoy the water. Declan was in glorious form as he shook the water from his hair, but he wasn’t the cause for the butterflies in her stomach this time. With her own Long Island already emptied, the blonde picked up the untouched one that had been set out for Cain and drained it as well. Suppressing her grimace from the strong alcohol and her own unease, Natalie disappeared into the powder room to change.

Standing in front of the mirror, the blonde examined her reflection once her suit was on, twisting this way and that to check her angles. Nat was considering that maybe she shouldn’t be so hard on herself when Declan’s voice called out from the pool. Natty, come on! What’s taking forever? Swimming is good for that ankle of yours too, don’t leave me waiting. And don’t make me come for you either. Natalie let a sigh slowly brush past her lips, knowing full well that Declan wasn’t bluffing. Memories from high school of trying to sit out pool parties only to be pulled, pushed or tossed in by Dec were proof enough. The young football player never seemed self conscious of anything, so it made sense that he wouldn’t understand the awkwardness of a teen girl trying to accept her body. And as much as she had tried to protest or resist, in the end she almost always had fun thanks to his antics to get her out of her head.

With hope that the extra Long Island would be the one to ease her insecurities this time, Natalie left the bathroom and made her way to the pool. “Keep your swim trunks on, I’m coming.” She called back, tossing her stuff onto one of the chairs before approaching the edge. Lowering herself to sit on the pool decking, the blonde dipped her legs into the water, swinging them back and forth to test the temperature. “Not bad…” She noted, pleasantly surprised by how warm it was. Remembering Declan’s claim that the pool would be good for her ankle, she lifted her foot up a little and rotated it underwater, trying to loosen the stiffness. “Am I supposed to do something specific to help? Or was that just a plot to get me to hurry up?” Natalie asked, glancing from her foot over to Declan, doing her best not to notice his muscles. Or at least not let him notice her noticing his muscles.
